The Best News in 2011-12 was the opening in August of 2011 of Fire Station 93, located on 530 O’Hara Ave. The 9,000-square-foot facility, which includes
an apparatus bay for three engines, living quarters and an emergency operations and training center, sits on land purchased from the Romiti family, whose patriarch, Albert Romiti, lived on the land all his life and served as a volunteer firefighter. A memorial plaque bearing Romiti’s name and the names of dozens of volunteer firefighters appears on the Station 93 Firefighter Memorial, which was transferred from the station’s former Second Street location.
