Format of Play The 1986 tournament will comprise a series of eliminations over seven days. Stage 1 - Qualifying

Round

Men will roll 24 games and women 18 games of scratch total pinfall. Stage 2 - Top 16

A round robin of en-game matches (bowled matchplay style) among the top sixteen players from Stage 1, starting from scratch, with special points system as follows: 1 point per pin 20 points per win 10 points each per tied match 5 points for a game between 200-249 10 points for a game between 250-300 Stage 3 - Semi Finals (Top 8)

A round robin of ene-game matches (bowled matchplay style) among the top eight players from Stage 2, starting from scratch, utilising special points system mentioned above. Stage 4 - Grand Finals (Top 5)

A one game step-ladder final in which No. 5 bowls No. 4. the winner bowls No. 3 that winner bowls No. 2 and then challenges the No. 1 for the title.
