SAVE THE DATE AND JOIN US IN BOLOGNA! 21-24 MARCH 2022

21 March: Bologna has chosen the first day of Spring to welcome the world of children’s and general publishing. An appropriate date for a new beginning!

Bologna: the heart of the book world where the taste for books is indulged

After two years of intense long-distance dialogue, exciting virtual encounters, research and planning, we are extremely happy to be meeting again in person. Save the date now for the global publishing community’s greatest Spring party! The 2022 BCBF Visual Identity was created by the young Mexican artist Sólin Sekkur. It will form the creative backdrop in the coming months, as excitement builds for the publishing calendar’s biggest gettogether of children’s content.

T

he Bologna Children’s Book Fair, the world’s leading event for the children’s publishing industry, will present its impressive flagship initiatives – from awards to exhibitions, from meetings to special areas – with some exciting additions: the much-awaited Comics Corner, a fascinating focus on African publishing, and the Bologna Licensing Trade Fair entirely dedicated to the kids’ world, relocated this year at the heart of BCBF. Besides all these, is an exciting major addition: after the digital debut in 2021, BCBF 2022 will welcome the first in-person edition of BolognaBookPlus (BBPlus), the new initiative launched to run in parallel with BCBF, aimed at a broader professional audience across the global publishing industry.

SHARJAH GUEST OF HONOUR AT BCBF 2022 Cross-cultural dialogue, books and knowledge find a permanent home in Sharjah

S

harjah, the UNESCO World Book Capital 2019-20, offers multiple pathways for both children and adults to engage with books, reading and culture, and root themselves in the thriving literary landscape of the emirate. Sharjah’s journey to cement its ties with nations and cities around the globe through dialogue and cultural exchange was initiated more than 40 years ago by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. The emirate is reaping the fruits of these strategic efforts today as it enjoys global cultural prominence and a well-established reading culture.

Several key initiatives are turning the emirate into the destination for children’s literature in the UAE and across the Arab region. Sharjah’s creative and culturally rich environment offers a great conducive environment for the local publishing industry, encouraging publishers, authors and illustrators to continually innovate and achieve excellence in the field of children’s and young adults’ literature with several professional incentives, training opportunities and prestigious recognitions. As Guest of Honour at Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2022, Sharjah will proudly showcase the diversity of Arab children’s literature through panel discussions, workshops, reading and matchmaking sessions led by 30+ writers, illustrators, artists and storytellers from the region. SBA will also present 17

Arabic-Italian translations authored by Emirati writers, and organise four school visits, hands-on workshops, and interactive storytelling sessions.
