MOTIVATION IN THE WORKPLACE by Andrew Calvert, AchieveGlobal 3.00pm 4.00pm

Behind every unmotivated employee is a leadership problem waiting to be solved. Yet many employees and their leaders see motivation as a game of rewards and punishment. Forget the cash. Forget the threats. To engage today’s workforce, a leader is well advised to seek the heart of what moves people. And if you are looking for your next role, understanding what to look for in a potential employer will help you choose the right job… In a lecture and activity based format listen to and experience Andrew Calvert present the findings of AchieveGlobal’s Asia based research into employee motivation and leadership behaviours. At this event you can learn practical tips on how to motivate yourself, your team and avoid common mistakes that can actually de motivate employees.

COLOURS AND DRESS SENSE by Ice Sherry Lee, Aphrodite Image Consultancy 4.00pm 5.00pm

Colour is your most powerful friend in the wardrobe. It can transform you from a drab to fab with the flick of a fuchsia fingernail or the swish of a scarlet scarf, as long as the colours you wear are in the right tones and hues for you. Embracing your personal colour palette is so transformative. It energizes your wardrobe, boosts and enhances your appearance, and adds creative flair to your image. Join Ice Lee in this workshop to discuss the strategic use of flattering colours that work with your natural tones to raise you above the sea of familiar beige, black, navy and grey, so you can grab that “wow” factor and shake it for all it’s worth.

1.00pm 2.00pm

As humans, we were wired from birth to make progress. If we’re not learning and stretching, we’ll eventually become stifled and stagnant. Just as plants need the right conditions to flourish, we need the right conditions to thrive, or a piece of us will wither and die. A healthy career involves a continuous process of stretching and growing not just from an intellectual perspective, such as learning the latest software or acquiring new industry knowledge, but a deeper and more meaningful level of progress such as the ability to promote to the next level of authority with new challenges and responsibilities. In this seminar, you will learn about: • The three main motivational factors to move forward in your career • Common characteristics of promotable people • 5 common roadblocks to promotion and strategies to overcome them

When your work life and personal life are out of balance, your stress level is likely to soar. It's important to restore Harmony. Spending most of your time working, may affect your home and sex life. Consider the consequences of poor work-life balance: Fatigue. Leave work at work. With the technology to connect to anyone at any time from virtually anywhere, there may be no boundary between work and home — unless you create it. If you are unable to separate work life from your personal life, than it's important to Learn How to harness Personal Energy Balance to overcome the stress and restore Harmony.

A WORKSHOP SESSION ON THE ART OF CONVERSATION by Lionel Lim, Lifestyle Personality www.LionelLim.com Your success in office, personal life, relationships and business will be determined by your ability to communicate effectively with others. “Social intelligence” or the ability to interact, converse with, and persuade others, is the most highly paid and respected form of intelligence you can have, and this intelligence can be developed.

3.00pm 4.00pm

Your ability to be charming, to be a genuinely likeable and pleasant person, will likely open more doors for you than any other quality. The more people like you and think of you warmly, the more they will want to see you, listen to you, be in your presence and invite you into theirs. The ability to communicate with confidence, clarity and conciseness is thus highly valued. In an increasingly complex world, knowing how to project ourselves in the eyes of others is no longer an important skill to learn. It is an essential skill to master. As the saying goes, first impression counts. ‘The Art of Conversation’ is a fun-filled workshop session that incorporates the best from different fields. The skills taught can be applied not only to work, but also in your personal and family life.

EMPLOYABILITY INTELLIGENCE: FUTURE-PROOF YOUR CAREER by Anderson Tan, biipmi Pte Ltd Professional, Managers and Executives (PMEs) are faced with a capricious manpower landscape in which the workforce is shifting from maintaining employment to enhancing employability. This means they need high “employability intelligence”, coupled with relevant and highly usable knowledge and skills to move self-sufficiently within the labour market. 5.00pm 6.00pm

For the past decade, Singapore’s approach towards pre-employment as well as continuing education and training (PET & CET) has been focusing on developing a highly skilled workforce for the knowledge economy. This is in direct response to the advent of the knowledge economy identified by many developed countries at the turn of the millennium. PMEs, with their tertiary education and qualifications, have often been assumed to possess knowledge and skills that are valued by their respective industries, and therefore should be less vulnerable to structural changes in Singapore’s economy. The global recession in 2009, however, revealed unsettling statistics that PMEs were not insulated from such devastating economic onslaughts. In fact, anecdotal evidences indicate that PMEs could actually take longer to regain employment, and under-employment would persist for some time even after the economy recovered. This has led some researchers to question whether our education and training strategies have created an over-education but under-employment situation. With even more resources being devoted to CET for PMEs in the coming years, how can we endeavour to avoid the phenomenon of over-educationunder-employment?

CAREER OPTIONS (Hall E, Room 2) LEARNING SPANISH – THE GATEWAY TO THE CULTURE OF 500 MILLION PEOPLE by Josep Mas, Las Lilas School

11.00am 11.30am

There are many reasons that explain the success of Spanish among people interested in learning a foreign language. To begin with, it should be borne in mind that over 495 million people speak Spanish around the world. Spanish is the fastest growing native language among the top three. There is strong demographic support for the growth of Spanish; not just in Spain and Latin America, but also in the US: in 2050 the United States is expected to become the first Spanish-speaking country in the world. If we bear in mind other cultural and economic factors, interest in Spanish should be self-explanatory. Singapore is in a privileged situation in that most of our population grows bilingual in English and Mandarin. Having English is important enough, but being fluent and proficient in two of the three main world languages is a definite competitive advantage for our country. It seems therefore obvious that many Singaporeans are more and more interested in learning the third most important language in the world, a global language which is official in 22 countries and is spoken by nearly 500 million people.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY IN THE GEMS & JEWELLERY INDUSTRY by Tay Thye Sun, Far East Gemological Institute Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a form of self-regulatory of good business ethics within the corporate world. The goal of CSR is that each company takes responsibility of what they do i.e. follow code of ethical practice, the law of the land, and positive action to set up guide line to work closely and improve life of employees, consumers and communities as a whole, and have minimizes environmental impact.

12.30pm 1.00pm

The ideas of CSR started in the late 1960s and early 1970s after many multinational companies formed the term stakeholder, that means organisation’s action have impact on the people working within and outside it. CSR was influenced also by Edward Freeman’s book Strategic Management: a stakeholder approach dated 1984 and in that he argued that “corporations make more long term profits by operating with perspective”, while some critics said that “CSR distracts from the economic role of businesses”. Other argues that CSR is “merely window-dressing, or an attempt to pre-empt the role of governments as a watchdog over powerful multinational corporations” (Wikipedia, 2012). It is generally understood that CSR is to do good rather than harm but there is no formal act of legislation to carry out what it should be done. In this presentation, the author focus on CSR on gems and jewellery business, and look at various level of the business from the international to individual level, and the problem encountered in implementing the policy set out. The success and failure of CSR depends very much on the support of various organisations from the grassroots level to higher level, and the determination to see through the whole process.

However, little effort has been devoted to the wine consumer-oriented marketing. This study aims to gain an understanding of the consumer segmentation, the consumption and purchasing behaviour in the Singapore wine market by identifying the influencing factors of wine consumption and purchasing behaviour in the Singapore wine market. This study met the aim and objectives through an extensive review of relevant literature and the implementation of an empirical research. The research approach adopted in this study falls into the cross sectional exploratory, descriptive and explanatory research categories that attempt to answer and discover the existence of relationships, associations or interdependences. The research methodology underlying in this study is conducted by quantitative analysis with the use of self-administered questionnaires. The findings from this study provided an advance understanding into the wine consumption and purchasing behaviours of consumers in the Singapore wine market.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Technology in itself cannot transform learning. You need role models who will help you channel your energy and passion to work towards solutions for a better future. • Youth and social media Speaker: Deborah Nga, Google

1.45pm 2.30pm

• Creating Social Change Speaker: David Hoe, United Nations Association of Singapore We live in a society that is filled with many cracks. Some of these cracks are small while others are screaming for our attentions. Yet, we never seem to hear and catch a sight of it. Then again, even if we do see those cracks, we often wonder what we can do about it. Wait…maybe you can. Through this 15-20 minutes sharing session, we will explore how any individual like you and me can create/effect change be it in your school environment or society. What are the elements that make a 'change' and how do we 'sustain' it? Everyone is gifted with the ability to understand, innovate and create change. Creating one change at a time.

GROWING AND GLOWING

Stress in studies rock your balance from time to time. Too much stress, anxiety, depression, or worry interfere with health, career or personal relationships. But no matter how difficult things seem, by learning to harness stress and gain emotional awareness, you can bring yourself into balance and have a more positive outlook. • Youth and Charisma in Personal Branding Speaker: Genecia Luo, InQueenz by Genecia Luo "Remember, to get to where you want, you have to start where you are now." Genecia Luo

2.30pm 3.15pm

A brand name is more than just a word on a piece of paper or apparel. It is the beginning of a conversation. You’re just a normal man on the street, a nobody, without your identity. How can you stand out from the crowd? Part of being a charismatic leader is to understand what is your own personal brand, helping you to achieve the success, influence, and attraction that you want. This will, in turn, lead you towards earning the income you’ve always dreamt of. Personal Branding (PB) is essential in differentiating yourself from others and moving up the ladder of success. In this session, learn from Genecia Luo, Author of Look Good, Feel Good Series, titled "Power of Personal Branding: 8 Irresistible Ways to build your brand" She will be sharing on the ABCs of personal branding and its influences. Learn the consistencies within the building blocks to build your reputation and your identity. Be ready to receive practical tips to enhance your PB with live demonstrations, examples, and more! When you build your Personal Brand, you will not only achieve success in your career but in your personal life as well!

• Youth In a Relationship Speaker: Anderson Tan, biipmi Pte Ltd We are social beings, and any form of socialisation must necessarily involve formation of relationships. Relationship essentially is about the state and condition of connections with people, and the skills in managing the connections. There are many different forms of relationships, but all have similar elements: Intimacy, Commitment, and Expectations. Understanding these elements will enable you to objectively manage the various complex relationships that you would have to face in your growing years. 3.15pm 3.45pm

BE KIND – INSTILL THE KAMPUNG SPIRIT OF NEIGHBOURLINESS INTO THE COMMUNITY Speaker: William Wan, Singapore Kindness Movement

6.15pm 6.45pm

“Before the 60s, most people in Singapore lived in kampungs (villages). Some communities shared a common well. More commonly, they shared a common “sound box” called Rediffusion. People from the kampung gathered in front of a Rediffusion to be mesmerised by story tellers. There was a great deal of sharing and caring. People of all races and religion generally got along quite nicely. We have since progressed to high-rise flatted living, for the most part. The kampungs are communities of the past, but should the kampung spirit of caring and sharing be history too? Last year at the National Day Rally speech the Prime Minister lamented that we are “getting less patient, less tolerant, less willing to compromise in order to get along.” In my reflective response, I suggested that we have the ability to revive the kampung spirit because it is in each one of us. At the beginning of the year, I also wrote that collectively we can bring back the kampung spirit. I am convinced that the kampong spirit of neighbourliness can transform us into a gracious community, and we will be much happier for it.”

Employability is not the same as employment; just because you have a job does not mean that you are employable. This is because employability, which is about gaining, retaining and regaining employment, is relative and not absolute. Hence being employable isn’t simply just about you. It’s about who you’re up against. We all need to enhance our Personal Attributes, improve our Personal Circumstances and monitor some Demand Factors. biipmi.com is an innovative cloud-based platform to enable you to develop your online personal branding, and hence employability, through investing with your resumes, portfolios, and social networks. With biipmi, job search does not ONLY involve waiting until the job is advertised. We provide tools and features within this innovative online employability platform that lead to jobs being offered to you before they are publicly advertised. After you applied for your job, biipmi.com is even able to compare and rank your application base on the company’s job specification and your personal attributes, personal circumstances and even demand factors. Although it is up to the company to decide who to call in for interview, you can be sure that they will pick the most relevant ones!

Collegify Collegify is a process driven, college admissions consulting company. Our diverse team of highly qualified mentors comprises graduates from leading global universities, including Columbia, MIT, Virginia Tech (USA), Oxford (UK), NTU, SMU (Singapore), and a NTU faculty member, who has previously been part of admissions committees in US colleges. Collegify strives to find the ‘perfect fit’ for every individual by bringing clarity and in-depth knowledge to the college application process. Unlike the agency model, where the students are ‘encouraged’ to study at partner universities, at Collegify, mentorship is provided with the students’ best interests in mind and strives to help them enter their dream universities. We also organize a US university trip every June for students to visit elite US campuses and network with admission officers. Students from Collegify have been accepted into Wharton, Yale (100% scholarship), Harvard, Columbia, Stanford, UC-Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, Oxford, and Imperial, just to name a few! We take pride in our 100% placement record with students working with us for five or more colleges. Additionally, we have been featured among the top 100 start-ups to watch out for in 2013. Revelution Global Revelution Global is a training and resource provider for career success. It is rather unfortunate that people today spend nearly half of their lives working towards a career for which they are most likely ill prepared. We believe that every individual should be given opportunities and skills to achieve their dream careers. We equip you with all the skills to jumpstart your dreams, rev up your career, so that you can blaze a trail of success in your life! We believe that there are 3 keys to a successful career: the Person, the Competencies, and the Opportunities. With this in mind, we came up with a powerful, yet simple-to-understand Triple ‘A’ Model - Aware, Advance, and Accelerate. In ‘Aware’, we first employ learning methodologies to help you gain awareness of your skills, interests and inclinations. We then equip you with tools necessary to succeed in your career – ‘Advance’. Finally, under ‘Accelerate’ we provide you with a platform to catapult to higher levels in your career. Prism Prep (Prism) Prism is a premier destination for all students who desire a high quality preparatory course for SAT. We have a learning environment that is unique, innovative and progressive. We harness cutting edge technology to help students achieve their goals and targets. We have developed a unique strategy that will help students ‘study smart’ and crack the test in the shortest time. We focus on enriching the students’ knowledge, analytical abilities as well as exam preparation experience.

Our students have been admitted to many elite US universities such as Harvard, Yale, MIT, Cornell, Stanford and more. At Prism, students realize their potential, fulfill their ambitions and participate in their own overall development, through ever-evolving education tools facilitated by a high-performing and dedicated team of experts.
