months to come close enough to his fitness level for it to be a “together” activity. You do need to think about exactly what you’re missing from him. I suspect it’s more attention than him not going grocery shopping. You’re right that you do need to talk with him. He may have his own reasons for a punishing training schedule. If he’s close to your age, he may be feeling his level of physical fitness is starting to slide. Older athletes still have good endurance, but aren’t as fast as they once were. Maybe the two of you could engineer a compromise. A couple of nights a week could be “date” nights where you prioritize time as a couple. Then the nights he’s training, you could find something that appeals to you and pursue it. I’m sure I may get flak from some readers, but a squeaky clean house isn’t a huge priority. Feeling like your life is full and happy is farther up the totem pole. No one will expire if the house didn’t get vacuumed. You could always splurge and hire cleaning help once in a while if things feel truly out of control. Pick a time when both of you are rested and bring up your concerns and a list of possible compromises. Be sure he knows you love him and miss his company. Invite him to brainstorm with you.
