Your School. Your Path.

Imagine what you could

DREAM, CREATE, BECOME, in a community that wants to see you succeed.

Welcome to Bay! When you visit, some of the first people you will meet are members of the student admission team—that’s us! We are proud of our school and can’t wait to share with you what makes Bay unique. In the meantime, take a look at our viewbook, Academic and Co-curricular Program Guide, website, social media and YouTube channel to get to know us better. We also encourage you to schedule your visit to Bay soon! The A-Team

“ This school has given me the stepping stones and confidence to move forward to the next chapter of my life. I know that whenever I need it, Bay will be right here waiting for me to remind me of who I am and who I can be.” K ENDALL '16 Katherine Delmar Burke School Wellesley College

community At Bay, we value courage, kindness, and authenticity. These values, also articulated in our precepts, help us to build and sustain our community. Community isn’t something that just happens—we build it day by day, class by class—it is a value we pass down, a priority we hold onto. Morning Meeting, pictured here, is one of the cornerstones of Bay’s culture. Morning Meeting is where we learn about, and from, each other. Bay’s culture is unique—some of us even call it “the Bay way.” It’s about how we treat, respect, and value one another; it’s about rejecting the idea of cliques, really listening, staying involved, and being real. You don’t have to “fit in” at Bay; Bay is who you are.

“I genuinely think the school has changed my life in the best possible way. I love the way classes are set up; classes offered give us the skills we need and make me think...I really appreciate that Bay is not afraid to push boundaries and change how students are taught.” CAY L A ‘1 7 Chinese American International School Northeastern University

Arts AND Design

INTERDISCIPLINARY COURSES and AN INNOVATIVE SCHEDULE At Bay, innovation is essential—we strive to give students the best preparation

At Bay, art and design are essential academic subjects because they teach

for college and life. The Class of 2022 will benefit fully from two of our most

skills of observation and problem-solving while promoting creativity and

important innovations: our interdisciplinary courses and new schedule.

experimentation. One of the first choices you will make as a 9th-grade student is

Life is interdisciplinary! Thus, Bay’s interdisciplinary courses ask students

which college prep arts elective to take. You can choose from courses in drama, digital photography, drawing, painting, video production, jazz, or electronic music. Courses like Advanced Product Design and Artist as Activist, inspire students to take on the challenge of using their art to change the way people live and view the world.

to explore critical real-world issues through multiple lenses. Courses like Climate Change, Neighborhood Dynamics, and Water in the American West build skills in critical thinking and creative problem solving. And, frankly, these courses are just incredibly interesting and extremely popular with Bay students. That’s why we added two more to this year’s catalog: Globalization and Hip Hop Culture, Politics and Production. Starting Fall 2018, Bay is launching a semester and immersive schedule. During

the semester, you’ll take five courses each of which meets three days a week for 80 minutes, allowing you the time to dive deeply into your subjects. During each immersive term, you will take one course for three weeks and focus completely on one topic and interesting projects that take you beyond the classroom. This is a modern schedule built for 21st century learning that is unique among Bay Area high schools.

As a Bay student, you’ll be involved in the classroom and in your community.

Engagement

Many of Bay’s academic classes have community based projects. Courses like Research in the Community and Senior Signature Project help you learn research and project management skills while figuring out how to engage those around you. Outside of the classroom, clubs like Community Service in Action and Amnesty have launched projects within and outside the school to activate the community around important causes. In addition, Bay’s six student leadership groups offer unique opportunities for you to make a real difference in the school and the lives of Bay students. Will you apply for the A-Team, the School Life Committee, or the Student Equity Inclusion and Diversity group? Or, will you create something new?

Athletics At Bay, winning isn’t just defined by numbers. We win when we play as a team, when we play better than we did the day before, and when we push ourselves to take risks. Bay’s competitive athletics and activities program gets you out on the field and helps you to expand your idea of what’s possible. With 25 teams, 10 sports, and activities classes like CrossFit, Rock Climbing and Kung Fu, you will find something you love. No matter the sport, we win when we are able to show skill, heart, and integrity as players and fans. 110 0
