Building a Mindful Community What does it mean to be mindful? It means thinking carefully and acting intentionally. At Bay, students and teachers think carefully not only about academics but also about how we treat one another. Understanding what an author or classmate is saying, valuing one another even when we disagree, and sharing our

experiences – this is how Bay creates real connections.

We begin the day as a full community. At Morning Meeting we gather to see one another and share. We might hear from a community innovator sharing her latest project, watch the cast from the fall play perform, see what the robotics class has just created or listen to a 9th-grader share a personal story. After, we take a few minutes to sit in silence because, as we know from brain research, mindfulness helps us be better prepared for the day. Finally, we make birthday, sports, and community service announcements. Morning Meeting puts us all on the same page.

This mindful approach is vital as you enter a world where difficult questions often have no simple answers.
