Live Auction The Guildhall, Bath, BA1 5AW Thursday, 1st October Drinks Reception at 7pm Auction at 8pm Is your wall in need of a Gruffalo? Do you long to have some Aliens in Underpants in your office? Is the school library lacking an illustration by new Children’s Laureate Chris Riddell? On 1 October we’re auctioning 15 specially commissioned one-off pieces – depicting famous characters sitting in the Bath Children’s Literature Festival big red storytelling chair. The auction includes work from: Axel Scheffler, Chris Riddell, Ben Cort, Nick Sharratt, Korky Paul, Liz Pichon, Steven Lenton, Kristina Stephenson, David Melling, Sarah McIntyre, Mini Grey, Laurence Anholt, Michael Foreman, Alison Jay, and David Roberts. To view them before the night pop into the Framing Workshop in Walcot Street or wander along to the Sofa.com in the Corridor Arcade. The illustration is based on characters from Camille and the Sunflowers a story about Vincent Van Gogh and Camille Roulin, who was the son of the famous postmaster in Arles. Laurence Anholt is an author/illustrator of more than 200 children’s books, published in over 40 languages and notable for their upbeat and humorous approach to important issues. Laurence’s first Young Adult novel The Hypnotist will be published by Random House Penguin in October 2016.

David Melling Original Art. Hugless Douglas David Melling became a freelance illustrator in 1986 drawing for magazines and advertising agencies. In 1993 he illustrated his first children’s book. The picture features characters from Grumbug! (which is the sequel to Troll and the Oliver). Troll loves cake! Here we see him lifting Oliver, Dolly and the Red Chair to retrieve a dropped cupcake. Oliver is reading Grumbug, and barely notices what is going on. He must be used to having Trolls around the house by now.
