The business officially opens on November 26th, but they are more than happy for anyone to come in whilst they’re preparing their workshop and showroom space. Diss-Coverings, aka the DISS School of Upholstery, focuses on upholstery courses; offering a range of courses both part-time week-day or weekends, or full-time weekends. When not teaching, Mary and Rachel take on upholstery commissions

‘I believe every business should have a unique selling point.’ says Rachel ‘Ours is deep buttoning, and the more exotic the fabric and style of button, the better! Proper buttoning is hard to come by now and everyone will have seen the mass produced, cheap, buttoned-back chairs and sofas that are churned out by a multitude of online retailers. Bespoke, hand-crafted, buttoning is well worth investing in and, when done properly, lasts for years.’ Anyone interested in doing a course, wanting a treasured piece re-upholstered or simply wanting some interiors inspiration, pop in - the showroom is open Wednesday to Saturday 10-5, workshop open Monday to Saturday 10-5.
