For this 2009-2010 academic year, Lombardy’s’ Regional Authorities have once again signalled the start of the Artigianato&Scuola project, which promotes craftsmanship in lower secondary schools. With this project, Lombardy’s’ Regional Authorities have set themselves the goal of promoting craftsmanship and its values as points of strength and excellence in the Lombard economy, and of expanding awareness of the career opportunities and human and professional growth processes which the field can offer the younger generations. Education and training activities, as well as opportunities for having fun, have been planned in such a way as to involve students in an interactive process which involves them whilst
outlining all the prospects this field offers. Above all else, it aims to stimulate the interest young people have for these fascinating, time-honoured professions. Artigianato&Scuola is a project which has been moulded around the concept of interaction and dialogue between the key players involved: the young people, their teachers, families and the artisans themselves. Generating one-to-one communication between the parties involved is crucial if the pupils are going to grasp the meaning of the craft in question. With the help of their teachers, the support of their families and the knowledge of the professionals involved, they must acquaint themselves with the technical aspects, not to mention the high human and artistic profile of the work. The educational initiatives
and advertising campaigns, combined with the magazine, website and an introduction to working in a company are all used to ensure that the students, together with the teachers and parents, are kept up-to-date. The students are also encouraged to take an active part in the initiative, and to play a primary role in defining their careers. Artigianato&Scuola is an initiative that bears witness to the emphasis Lombardy’s Regional Authorities is placing on the careers of young people, who now more than ever need careful and sensitive guidance.
