The object of desire

The mirror is the undisputed protagonist in an original collection of works hosted by the historical Genoese gallery of Caterina Gualco. Among the different cultural and display initiatives which have been held in the city of Genoa, elected European Capital of Culture 2004, the art exhibition entitled “Idem: object of desire” is certainly worth a mention. Within the scope of the collection “MeDesign – Shapes of the Mediterranean”, it has unveiled an intriguing collection of mirrors. Perhaps it is because of their ambiguity and seductive nature, able to welcome and reflect images redolent of new meanings that many artists have produced works where the mirror, not simply an element among the many furnishings with which the designers and decorators have engaged themselves, is the protagonist. So the exhibition gathers works by: Abramovic, Ambrosini, Andolcetti, Baj, Caminati, Carrega, Cavaliere, Ciaccio, Dellepiane, Duchamp, Everart, Ferrarazzo, Flamminio, Gartner, Genovesi&Andriolo, Ghiglione, Giovanelli, Gualco, Hans-Hermann, Kolar, La Pietra, Marchegiani, Manfredi, Mulas, A. Oberto, M. Oberto, Orlandi, Piccari, Pistoletto, Pozzi, Pretolani, Rizzoli, Serge III, Skuber, Vautier, Viola. Beside the works are placed musings on the mirror, expressed by the same artists and by other personalities who, in different ways, have confronted themselves with this object of strong visual and metaphorical ambiguity.
