This latest edition of the Macef sawan increase in the number of foreign visitors who, at eleven thousand, made up over 15% of the total numberof visitors at the show. Among the numerous innovations presented, great interest was drawn to the “Throw& Objects” and “Tendencies” areas, and also to the exhibit dedicatedto the environment, “Re-think& Re-cycle”, a fine show of new materials coming from the recycling of consumer products. The Fair also hosted initiatives aimed, on one hand, at spreadingthe knowledge of the Macef atan international level, and on the other, at offering suggestions and incentivesto the operators. Among these, worth remembering, for example, wasthe “Food Time”, a media eventdedicated to the design of the kitchenand the dinner table, and the “21for 21”, a project of the studentsof the Faculty of Industrial Design, Graphic and Virtual Design of the Turin Polytechnic. Great importance was given to the “Design Prize” entitled to the Cavaliere del Lavoro Massimo Martini, founder of the Macef. The winner wasthetwenty-five year old Swiss designer Nicolas Le Moine, who won the award with his project: “Watering Can”. During the show, in the very popular Pavilion 10, that hosted the “Segni”,and the “21” areas, new youth innovation projects were presented with the showof the Gruppo Altrementi; they wereall objects with somewhat bizarre shapes and with the most varied materials,

having, however, as common element, that of concrete usability. Also significant was the evolution of the ethnic towards products, treatments and design concepts, following, however, the philosophyof Italian living. The Macef, as with every January edition, attributed considerable importance also to the table and the kitchen. The event set upto promote these products was called“Food Time”, and it featuredthe famous chefs who cookedon the spot. Also in the kitchen field,we must remember the show-event“The Rooms of Food”, consisting of foursmall rooms focused on the rites of foodand of preparing the table. The roomswere arranged

by some of the teachersand about thirty students of the fifth yearof the sculpture and design course of theBrera Academy. The Fair collaborated, finally, with the Triennale di Milano to organise a great monographic show entitled “Il Rumore del Tempo”,dedicated to Gaetano Pesce, consideredthe greatest authority on plasticsand their possible treatments in the artistic field.
