Two other light meals, which together do not equal a full meal, may be taken during the day.

On behalf of Fr Bob and the Capital Campaign Committee we would like to thank you for your generous contribution to our “Renewing & Restoration the House of God” Capital Campaign. The restoration project began the week after Christmas and every day we see progress while all the contractors build out the vision that we selected and prayed about as a Parish during the Design Stages of the Project. In the very near future, we will re open the doors to our House of God to celebrate what we embraced three years ago as the Family of St. Boniface Martyr Parish. We were faced with a financial challenge and together with your participation we will see our vision come to life. The Restoration and Renovation are important to each and every member of our Parish, those members before us who built our foundation, those of us here today and those who will be the benefactors of our future. Recently in the mail you received a memorial form to complete. If you pledged $3000 or more, kindly select the item you wish to memorialize. Total Pledges to date : $1,238,642 Balance pending payments $83,262 Pending payments due the last day of each month. Please contact the office 676-0676 or email stbonfinance@gmail.com with questions or concerns. Thank you. The Capital Campaign Committee

St. Vincent de Paul, St Boniface Martyr Conference - Annual Report

The Parish Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society has submitted it’s 2014 Annual Report to Fr. Bob. The report reflects the activities of the 19 volunteers from our parish conference, and is required by the Rules of the Society for the fiscal year. It has been an active and rewarding time for our parish Vincentians. Feed the hungry, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless. This is the simple, direct mandate by Christ to all followers. The reality is, for most of us, opportunities to follow the mandate are rare. Most people rarely personally encounter the hungry, naked or homeless. The members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society are privileged to meet with the poor, face-to-face, in their homes, to demonstrate the love of Christ for His poor, and offer spiritual and material relief to them and their families I home visits on a regular basis. The Annual Report summarizes, in statistical format, the work of those volunteers, but hardly conveys their dedication to our neighbors in need. Over the past year, the parish Vincentians made 223 visitations to the homes of the neighbors in need and provided help to 493 people in need of assistance. The Vincentians performed approximately 5806 hours in service to those neighbors during the fiscal year. At the heart of the Vincentian ministry is the “home visit” by pairs of Vincentians, not as invasive bureaucrats, but rather caring representatives of Christ’s love, through the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. There is reciprocity, mutuality, n the service of Vincentians through the home visit that transforms the help from something that may have been humiliating into something that is honorable. The Society initially was started at St Boniface when parishioners formed a conference in 1937. The “home visit”, unique to the ministry and character of the Society, provides an opportunity for the poor and the deprived to communicate their individual needs with dignity in the comfort of their homes, and for the Vincentian visitors to analyze and respond to those identified needs. Sometimes the most appreciated benefit conveyed by the Vincentians is the fact that they cared enough to visit the deprived and forgotten, regardless of race or religious belief. During the past year, Vincentians in the Parish Conference expended $35,539 for our neighbors. Typically, these disbursements were to pay rent, food vouchers, fuel, utilities, clothing, furniture, prescriptions, transportation, child care, etc. These payments were as varied and numerous as the individuals served. The sources of income for the local ministry were also quite varied. The principal source of financial support is generous benefactors in the parish who share Christ’s love of the poor with our Vincentians. Their generosity makes them partners with the Vincentians in feeding the hungry, clothing the naked and sheltering the homeless. On behalf of the poor, thank you! Our gratitude to our benefactors in their support for St. Vincent de Paul is boundless. The balance of income to the conference, $9,899, came from Conference members, poor boxes, SVdP envelopes, fundraisers and the Thanksgiving mass collection. The conference is particularly grateful for the constant interest and encouragement of our pastor, Fr. Bob. Notwithstanding the many demands of his time, he has commended the work of the conference, celebrated a Mass of Thanksgiving attended by Conference members and benefactors and offered words of support, both privately and publicly, in our service of feeding, clothing and sheltering the poor. Thank you, Fr. Bob. Parishioners and others interested in financially supporting this work are encouraged to use the poor boxes at the doors of the Church for cash or check donations. Envelopes are available at the entrance of the gym during our Church’s renovations. Checks may also be made out to St. Boniface Martyr conference of St. Vincent de Paul and left at the Parish Center or mailed to the conference at the Parish Center, 145 Glen Avenue, sea Cliff, NY, 11579. The Parish Conference is a charitable organization under Sec. 501© (3) of the IRC. Donations are tax deductable. Thank you for your support and please keep our neighbors in need in your prayers. Deo Gratis.

The Youth Group participated in their fifth Midnight Run on March 7 in New York City. Midnight Run is an organization established to connect youth groups to the homeless of New York. Our Youth Group collected food, toiletries and new and gently used clothing from the parish to deliver in person to those in need. This type of profound experience is not only an opportunity for the youth, but for the parish as a whole to come together and be hands of Christ to those most in need. The youth group will be attending the Diocesan Youth Rally, Ignite, on March 15th. This will be an amazing event with teens from all over Long Island. If you are interested please contact Chris for more information.

Reconciliation (Confession): Saturdays 4pm-4:45pm in church..

* Penance Day (Diocesan Day of Reconciliation):

Monday, March 30: 3pm-9pm (individual Confession).

Invest just five minutes a day, and your faith will deepen and grow—a day at a time Third Sunday of Lent, March 8 Psalm 139 could be called the Scrutiny Psalm: “Lord, you know when I sit and stand; you understand me.” The Latin root of scrutiny means to search or to investigate. It’s the spiritual version of what happens at the airport security gate: surrender your baggage, empty your pockets, and take off your shoes. As our Elect members near the end of their preparation for Easter’s sacraments, we pray that they search their hearts before embracing the way of Christ. They invite the Spirit’s gentle but penetrating investigation. Lent invites all of us to do the same! Monday, March 9 Feast of St. Frances of Rome People often don’t recognize holiness in their midst. It happened to Jesus, of course, and to many saints who were pressured to live conventional, secular lives. Saint Frances of Rome was among the many forced by family to marry instead of taking religious vows. But she discovered her true calling within the role of reluctant matriarch by using her resources to help the poor. Like Frances, you might not immediately recognize God’s will shaping your life, and it just might surprise you on the upside. Tuesday, March 10 God’s math can be tricky. “How many times must I forgive my brother?” Peter asks, “Seven times?” Jesus’ response is short and sweet: How about seventy -seven times. Time and again Jesus calls his followers to forgive. There is no end to this call; it is an echo of God’s infinite mercy. You are never beyond God’s goodness and love. All that God asks in return is that you have a contrite heart and humble spirit. That may not seem like a lot, but by God’s calculations the willingness to seek and an openness to share love is worth everything. Wednesday, March 11 Nobel Peace Prize winner and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel calls remembering “a noble and necessary act.” “No commandment,” he wrote in his 1986 Nobel Lecture, “figures so frequently, so insistently,

in the Bible. It is incumbent upon us to remember the good we have received, and the evil we have suffered.” And for Christians, the sum and summit of our memory comes with bread broken and shared around the table of the Lord. That is where we remember all that has been offered to us and all that we must give in return. Thursday, March 12 Aside from being the bedrock document of both Christian and Jewish faith, the Bible makes for great literature—filled with sweeping epics, unforgettable characters, and the gamut of human experience and emotion. One of its more poetic images is that of “the finger of God,” which is used in the Book of Exodus to indicate the means by which the Ten Commandments were written on the stone tablets given to Moses on Mount Sinai. Jesus uses the phrase in reference to the power to cast out a demon. The image suggests that the smallest part of God is mighty enough to accomplish great things. Imagine what even a small amount of God can accomplish in your own life! Friday, March 13 All Fridays of the year are days of penance for Catholics, and abstinence from meat, once required on Fridays, may now be substituted by prayer and works most of the year. But the tradition of no meat on Fridays is still in place during Lent. It’s a reminder of the sacrifice of Christ on Good Friday, uniting you with Christ’s sacrifice through your abstinence. And (as anyone who has attended a church fish fry can attest!) it also unites you with other Catholics in a sense of community and solidarity. Saturday, March 14 Lent is a season that allows for the opportunity to examine what motivates and drives you. As you strip down your life, what do you find? On what or on whom are you most reliant? Do your desires direct you toward God or away? The answers you give can be humbling in the truest sense of the word— revealing not only who you are but also who is God in your life. Such knowledge is a gift and a challenge. Pay attention to your responses and listen for the options God might be offering you.
