Welcome to the Spring edition of Risk Manager magazine, hopefully we will get a summer this year and a much needed respite from the challenges of last winter. Since the Winter edition the AIRM have had a busy start to the year with a series of very informative seminars and our annual site visit which took place on 21st of March. Given the very popular venue we were inundated with requests for places on this trip and we had to revert to ‘drawing names out of hat’ in order to select the lucky 20 that were to get a sneak preview of the new Aviva stadium. We would like to thank Bill Enright of Aviva Stadium for making the tour possible and providing a very informative visit which covered a general tour of the facility as well as the fire protection strategies and issues pertaining to crowd control and general health and 4
Our April seminar saw almost record numbers descend on the Camden Court Hotel for our seminar on the very topical issue of the problems associated the use of Pyrite in sub-floor infill, a problem which unfortunately many new home owners are only too aware off. Kevin Currivan of OSG provided a very informative presentation on this topic which led to much discussion and debate amongst the mixed audience who attended. Our annual AGM was also held in April. The AGM saw Hugh Sexton resign from the position of Treasurer. Hugh will remain on the committee and I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his diligent work in this position over the past year. I would like to welcome two new members to the committee, Phil Lewis-Farrell and John Dunny who will also assume the role of treasurer. I’m sure Phil and John will be invaluable additions to the committee which currently comprises Ray Green, Tom English, Ian Davis, Peter O’Toole, John Hamilton,
Lesley Doyle, Brendan Kavanagh, John O’Reilly, Nigel Tonge, Hugh Sexton, Jason Kelly, Michael Brennan, Stephen Heffernan and Geraldine Dempsey. Our next seminar took place on the 19th of May when Stephen Dunne, RAW Group (Pollution response & remediation specialists) examined the various issues associated with the remediation of commercial & domestic properties contaminated by oil spills. The Autumn season will kick off with association members ‘The Motherboard Group’ discussing advancements in IT disaster recovery while Dennis Woods of The Business Continuity Institute will deal with the broader perspective of Business Continuity Planning. We look forward to welcoming you to these and future seminars, details of which are available on www.airm.ie.
