Director’s Chair Welcome to Americade 35! 35 years ago, Aspencade East started it all. Aspencade (which the flagship Honda tourer was named after) became Americade in 1986, and the rest is history. While some of you are coming to your first Americade, there are a handful of you who not only attended Aspencade East, but have attended ALL 35 YEARS!! Amazing! To you “35’ers,” surely there were birthdays, weddings, etc in your lives that you had to miss to attend 35 years straight, and I take my hat off to you all. Regardless of your tenure at Americade, with so much going on it’s easy to overlook some essential tools to maximize your week. Here are 7 tips to help you get the most out of your time: 1. Plan your week: Read the program as soon as you get it, and plan your week. There is a convenient tear-out schedule on page 41-42. Tear it out, and put it in your pocket or tank bag. 2. Take a demo ride: Motorcycles become smoother, more comfortable, more reliable and simply better in every way, every year. Americade is the only place in the U.S. to test ride so many different bikes, and with your wristband it’s free and easy. 3. Become a better rider: Americade offers a variety of training, which can benefit virtually any type of rider, and some of it is included with your wristband. • The New York Motorcycle Safety Foundation offers their Ultimate Bike Bonding RiderCourse for FREE to Americaders, but it quickly fills up during Monday Registration. Check with the MSF (at the EXPO) and you may luck-out during Americade Week and get a coveted spot. • Cone Course Training is offered by professional instructors during the week. It’s fun, it’s FREE to Americaders (it’s worth over $100), and you’ll learn essential slow speed bike handling techniques. • Jimmy Lewis Off Road Rider Training is available at Americade’s adventure bike center, DirtDaze. Dirt training for a street rider? Yep, learning on dirt is very valuable to pavement riders. 4. Become a smarter rider: Americade 35 has many guest speakers offering great advice all week long, and they’re free to anyone with a wristband (you). Attend a few, and you’ll love what you learn. 5. Do more: People who do guided rides or boat cruises rank their Americade Week even better than those who don’t. Sign up for a ride or cruise at the Holiday Inn starting Tuesday. You’ll be glad you did. 6. Win a prize: Americade’s many sponsors give away lots of prizes every day. To see if you won, check the Daily Door Prize List at Fort William Henry’s Activities Room, or at Americade’s Expo. 7. Ride in the Parade: It’s fun, it’s free and it ends up at the Party on the Pier where World Champion Teach McNeil will perform his amazing stunts. Plan well, and ride safely,

The next-gen 2017 Suzuki V-Strom 650XT. It’s not about the destination. It’s about the state-of-the-art electronics package, including highly advanced 3-mode traction control that lets you adjust to any riding surface imaginable. It’s ABS, giving you peace of mind in all conditions. It’s the genius Low-RPM Assist for smooth launches and enhanced low-speed riding. It’s Suzuki’s Easy Start System that enables simple, one-touch starts. It’s the unmistakable feeling that only a V-twin engine can deliver, whether you’re crossing town or the entire continent. And it’s knowing that you didn’t have to break the bank to break free. Because the value of a journey isn’t measured in miles. It’s measured in experiences.

Four V-Strom models. Infinite journeys. See the full lineup at SuzukiCycles.com Traction Control cannot prevent loss of traction due to excessive speed when the rider enters a turn and/or applies the brakes. Neither can it prevent the front wheel from losing grip. ABS is not designed to shorten the braking distance. Please always ride at a safe speed for road and weather conditions, including while cornering. Stunt Shows

An Americade First! - Tim Dyson performs an airborne motorcycle stunt show scaring and thrilling you as he jumps 100’ gaps, 40 feet overhead! He’ll perform at Americade’s HQ, and you’ll be in the front row. This “FMX” stunt team comes to us from Florida, and will be doing a number of jaw-dropping tricks including the “holy grail” of tricks - the backflip! This is an excellent opportunity to see this exciting demonstration during Americade Week. Following the show, you’ll be able to talk to the daredevil (and founder), Tim Dyson, who is even more interesting than you might imagine. While he is now a well known FMX performer, surprisingly at a young age Tim was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lymphoma and given only days to live. Having beaten the disease, Tim loves to perform and interact with audiences around the world. Monday 5:30 & 8pm | Tuesday 5pm | Wednesday 5:30pm | FWH Demo Area Make sure to catch the All NEW Northeast Drill Team Championship on Tuesday just after Tim Dyson performs! Teach McNeil is a multi-dimensional rider with an expert road-race license. He’s a 2-time XDL East Coast Champion as well as the 2008 Stuntwars World Champion. He has won or been on the podium in virtually every competition he has entered in the past 7 years... Teach is a World Champion rider, and you get a front row seat at his special Americade appearance. Prepared to be blown away! Thursday 7:30pm | FWH Demo Area

Cones Course Training Do you have full control of your motorcycle at all speeds? We set up a fun course, and have professional coaches on hand, who will teach you to be a better rider, in a short amount of time. We tend to feel most confident at highway speeds and cruising around town. But in a parking lot, are you a little nervous on that big machine? Drag your feet? Couple fingers over the front brake? ‘Duck walking’ the bike into that parking space? And just how wide is that u-turn? If you want to improve your low speed control skills and have serious fun at the same time, then come check out this event. Free Instruction from the Pros: Our professional instructors, Mike Gentile, Rob Naszady, Erica Corley and Bob Sivori, show you basic low speed motorcycle control techniques (works on any bike) as they ride through various cone patterns. You’ll be invited onto the course with your own bike for some personalized instruction. Then you can practice the skills you just learned, with the pros coaching as you ride the patterns. It’s a blast and ideal for any skill level. And best of all, it’s free! Feeling competitive? Take the Rider Challenge. Ride through the patterns without hitting any cones, going out of bounds, or putting a foot down. On Friday evening, we will keep score and the top rider will receive our Top Gun Award. Why Friday? You have all week to practice. After your ride, come on over to the Festival Commons for the awards and a Concert! Tues 7-8:50am | Wed 7-8:50am | Thur 7-8:50am | Fri 7-8:50am & 5-7:30pm | Sat 7-8:50am | FWH Demo Area Sign up in advance in the Activities Room, or take your chances and just show up 15 minutes prior to the event.

Touring Tips 1. Begin your day with a FULL tank of gas and EMPTY bladder. 2. Make a gas stop one of the last things you do before heading for your night’s lodging. 3. If you’re taking a Guided MiniTour with friends, have breakfast together and arrive as a group. We put you in line as you arrive and it’s difficult to accommodate riders who arrive separately. 4. Some tours have multiple waves and staggered departure times. 5. Arrive with clothing appropriate for the expected weather and temperature for the destination. 6. All MiniTours proceed at the legal speed limit, allowing time for photo opps & rest stops. 7. Because parking may be congested at some stops, trailers are not permitted on tours. 8. Tour Leaders will announce each tour’s CB Channel before departure. 9. Don’t forget to bring your camera. The annual Americade Photo & Video Contest (page 8) pays cash and if you have some shots of destinations, it might pay for your next Americade!

Riding Rules 1. Ride in staggered formation. Use a two-second spacing interval. 2. No passing or weaving, please. 3. All standard rules of the road apply; this is a tour, not a parade or a race. Riders must obey all traffic signals, unless a traffic control officer waves you through. 4. Your presence must be accounted for. If you have to leave the group for any reason, please notify your Tour Leader before you depart the tour. 5. Departure and rest stop times must be adhered to. 6. The main formation will not stop for breakdowns; tour staff will call for assistance if needed. 7. A.M.A. “Ride Straight” rules apply for the safety of all. 8. NO Pets please (for the safety of others and destination restrictions). 9. Bring a FULL tank of gas, an EMPTY bladder & a BIG !

Cruisin’ Lake George A Must Do at Americade is to take a Boat Cruise on one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, Lake George. It’s fun, easy, and will be a highlight of your trip to Americade. The Lake George Steamboat Company has a fleet of three unique vessels. The majestic Lac du Saint Sacrement---nicknamed “The Saint” boasts several covered decks, a well appointed dining room, a dance floor, and observation deck for taking in the spectacular scenery. The Saints nimble little sister, the Mohican---a.k.a. “Mo”, can glide into serene bays, between picturesque islands, and close to the charming camps & cottages along the shoreline. Last, but certainly not least is the MinneHaHa---affectionately known as “The Minne”. The Minne is a real steam paddle boat with a working Calliope aboard. Each of these boats offers something unique to those aboard. Each 2-hr cruise starts out with a delicious meal (unless noted otherwise) to wet your appetite for the spectacular scenery to come. Cruisin’ Lake George - Tuesday, Wednesday & Saturday Stand on the top deck with the lake breeze, or enjoy the cruise from one of the covered decks with large glass windows. During your cruise Tue, Wed, Thu & Sat you’ll glide by lush private islands, grand resorts, mansions and the stunning beauty of the spectacular Adirondacks Mountains reaching down to the shoreline. Live music is onboard, and special motorcyclist prizes will be awarded.

Taking a leisurely afternoon cruise on one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, on a beautiful cruise ship, with a great dinner---Fried Chicken, Potato Salad, Baked Beans, Cole Slaw, Tossed Salad and Beverages, with a group of people who share your love of motorcycling. Time on the lake doesn’t get any better than this. Blues Cruise - Thursday This cruise is not to be missed. You’ll depart from Lake George, traveling along the east shore past numerous uninhabited islands, along the foot of countless Adirondack mountains. The name of the ship is the Saint, and it offers enclosed decks with wonderful views as well as a top deck for those looking for a gentle lake breeze. Folks will jam to the blues while feasting on Fried Chicken, Potato Salad, Baked Beans, Cole Slaw, Tossed Salad and Beverages. Fireworks Cruise-Friday This will be great! Get THE BEST seats for Americade’s fireworks show on Friday night by hopping aboard a special fireworks 90 min boat cruise. Americade’s fireworks show is launched from barges on the lake, and you can be one of the lucky passengers aboard the MinneHaHa steamwheel cruise ship. You and some of your friends will get a jaw dropping, close up view of the show. (We did it last year and attendees LOVED it). Cash Bar on board; no meal included. Each cruise has a cash bar and includes fun prizes from the sponsors. Stop by to see them at FWH or the EXPO!

All boats run Rain or Shine and leave from the Lake George Steamboat Company on Beach Rd. You may board the Saint & MinneHaHa 1 hour and the Mohican 1/2 hour before posted schedule.

Mark is a Charter Life member of the American Motorcyclist Association and received its first Excellence in Media award in 2004. He is currently planning a trip that will take in the best roads in Hawaii, Oregon, Nebraska and North Dakota, though not necessarily in that order. Tue | 7pm | FWH Conf. Fred has authored “The Motorcycle Touring Bible” and currently, publishes regular columns in both Motorcycle Consumer News and the Allstate Rider News. He’s received numerous awards for both his editorial writing and investigative reporting; and was a recipient of the American Motorcyclist Association’s (AMA) “MVP Award” as a “Most Valued Person in Motorcycling.” Fred’s a longtime Americade favorite due to his wealth of motorcycle knowledge and his great humor...we look forward to what he has to say. Wed | 7pm | FWH Conf. Wyman became the first person to cross the country with a motorized vehicle. He traveled from San Francisco to New York City along train tracks(!) and dirt roads on his wooden spoked “motor bicycle.” The trip was so grueling that he was in bandages for weeks afterward. For some crazy reason in 2016, John Flores decided to follow the exact same route on a Zero DSR electric motorcycle...and, he’s lived to tell us about it. Thu | 7pm | FWH Conf. Center

Country Shindig NEW! The Country Shindig is a big, fun night with great live music, dancing, trick roping, line dancing instruction* and a finger licking good meal! The centerpiece of the night is the music, and we’ve found a great band who will be playing newer country tunes all night. Or, maybe the centerpiece of the night is the food - a huge, delicious and fresh BBQ. The meal includes 1/2 BBQ Chicken; BBQ Beef Brisket; Carolina Pulled Pork; Garden Salad; Potato Salad; and Pasta Salad. Or, maybe the highlight is the dancing and trick roping - both of which will involve some of you. It’s sure to be a hoot! Wednesday | 6-8pm | FWH Big Top Tent *Line Dancing Instruction starts at 5:30 pm

Comedy Shows

Americade’s Comedy Shows bring three nights of laughs Winner of NBC’s Last Comic Standing, Alonzo Bodden is back to tickle your funny bone. In response to overwhelming requests from Americaders who loved his show the last couple of years, we’re flying this hilarious motorcycle-enthusiast/comedian in again from LA for 2 nights of good, clean humor about motorcycles and the world. You’ll laugh so hard, you’ll feel it the next day.

Alonzo Bodden

Nationally known for his appearances on NBC’s Tonight Show, Late Night with Conan O’Brien and many others, Alonzo is an avid motorcyclist who’s outrageously funny. His sold-out Americade shows receive standing ovations and each year he has new material plus his famous impromptu audience interactions. Treat yourself to a seat before it sells out again. Opening Act: Ray Harrington was named Best Comedian by the Providence Phoenix, was selected for Comedy Central’s ‘Up Next’ Showcase, was a finalist in the Boston Comedy Festival, and was invited to host the International Filmapalooza Awards in Hollywood. He was awarded Best Documentary at the LA Comedy Festival, SNOB Film Festival, and premiered his film BE A MAN at the New York Comedy Festival. Ray has been heard on nationally syndicated radio along with Sirius/XM and he’s been seen on Hulu, ABC, FOX, and SBS Australia. Wed & Sat | 8-9pm | FWH Towers Hall

Ray Harrington NEW! We’re featuring two new comedians on Thursday. Ross Bennett will be headlining the night, and he’s been on dozens of television shows, including THE LATE SHOW with David Letterman (David said “Wow”!), COMEDY CENTRAL’S TOUGH CROWD with Colin Quin, Evening at the Improv, and is a popular headliner at comedy clubs worldwide. Ross was the winner of the Best Supporting Actor in A Comedy Web Series at the LAWEBFEST2016 and is a star on Sirius XM’s Comedy Channels heard by over 5 million listeners daily. He’s a veteran comedian. Ross is a high-powered performer who takes his act to the audience and comes back with rave reviews. Ross Bennett

Opening Act: Nathan Macintosh is an award winning comedian who is so good he could have been the headliner as well. Nathan had his own half-hour Comedy Now! special shown on The Comedy Network, performed at many of the major comedy festivals, including the Halifax Comedy Festival in 2009, 2012 and 2014, 2016, the Boston Comedy Festival in 2010, and the prestigious Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016. With his ranty, need-to-get-this-out style, Nathan offers a deeper, different perspective that’s always fresh and funny. Thur | 8-9pm | FWH Towers Hall Each evening will have great prizes from the sponsors.

Skills Challenge Americade offers two purely-for-fun riding events in the main factory demo area, which you’re invited to join for free! It’s a perk of being an Americader. You’ll get a kick out of it, and you might just win a trophy! Slow Race - How slowly can you ride? We set up a special straight line course, where “racers” compete head-to-head, with the slowest time winning. This always draws a crowd, which adds to the excitement. Golf Ball Balance - Have a passenger and want to join the fun? Ride 2-up through a special traffic cone course, while trying to place golf balls on the top of the cones. Sounds simple, but it requires good rider-passenger coordination. Any rider-passenger combo is allowed. Thursday | 5:30pm | FWH Demo Area Sign up at the Activities Room at least 1/2 hour before the events begin. These games are entertaining whether you play or watch! Trophies for winners and prizes from the sponsor.

Fashion Show The Americade Runway moves to Thursday night. See the motorcycle world’s latest and best fashions, on stage at the Americade Fashion Show. There are thousands of dollars in door prizes from motorcycle manufacturers & top apparel companies, such as Harley-Davidson, Honda, Indian, Slingshot, Sportline & Yamaha. All fashions displayed on stage will be given away! Word has gotten out; the Fashion Show door prizes rock! Don’t miss out. Thursday | 6pm | FWH Towers Hall

Festival of Lights

Some folks do it for fun, others for safety...either way we’re all excited to see how participants have decked out their ride. Do you have a computer controlled rolling light show, or a subtly elegant illuminated ride? Do your bulbs outshine them all on a city street, or light up a dark road late at night? One thing in common---y’all just want to be seen! What better place than the Festival of Lights! Decorative Lighting Sign up in the Activities Room (see pg 24 #16 and pg 17) or join the Light Parade-lining up at Fort William Henry (see pg 24 #13) at 9pm and taking off at 9:30pm to circle Lake George Village, gather some late comers, and come back to Fort William Henry for Decorative Light Judging. Do you just want to see the BEST and latest in Decorative Lighting? Grab a good spot at FWH as the bikes take off for the parade...enjoy the Balloon Glow, Fire Juggler & other entertainment while the parade is out on the road. Be there when they get back to see how the competition shakes out. 9pm Assemble Light Parade ............FWH Demo Area 9:30pm Light Parade Rolls Out ........................LG Village Fire Juggler & Balloon Glow ....FWH Demo Area 10pm Decorative Light Judging .........FWH Demo Area Standard & Super Computer Thursday | Starting at 9pm | FWH Demo Area

Funtional Lighting New this year, the Functional Lighting Contest will take place at the site of DirtDAZE, Americade’s Adventure Riding Center on Rt 9N in Lake Luzerne, NY. We’ll see whose bulbs can blaze a path through the night and how they stand up to the competition. This contest is open to Americade and DirtDAZE participants. • Brightest Lights • Dim Bulb (Least Bright) Sign up at DirtDAZE; up to 15 minutes before the contest begins.

Friday Night Spectacular It’s Americade’s Biggest Night! The biggest stage, the most prizes, the nicest meal, great fireworks and rockin’ tunes for the grand finale of Americade Week. The Americade caterers will be serving up Tequila Lime Marinated Chicken Breast; Grilled Marinated Flank Steak; Maple Cured Roasted Pork Loin; Baked Ziti; several delicious salads, and all the sides. Stop by the Holiday Inn to see if there are any tickets available for the best meal in town! While you eat, enjoy the sounds of Weekend Rock Gods. WRG has its musical roots in the 60s and 70s. They’re super excited to be part of this year’s Americade Concert Series! After dessert, you might be one of the winners of over $30,000 in prizes including a Harley-Davidson ® Dyna ® Low Rider ®! Yep, one lucky attendee will have the keys handed to them on stage. How will they get it home? That’s a good problem to have. Following the prizes The Grift, an indie-band with seriously skilled musicians, will take the stage until the Fireworks start. Their sound blends booty-shaking grooves and improvisation with radio-friendly hooks, witty lyrics, and tight vocal harmonies. The Fireworks Show will be amazing, so prepare to plug your ears as the sky lights up above. Want an even better seat for the show? Hop aboard the Fireworks Cruise (for ticket holders) as it circles the fireworks launch barge - it’s a fantastic experience, and it’s a short walk from the Festival Commons.

Saturday night is all about Bikes, Beers & BBQ as folks pour in to listen to three well matched and entertaining bands. Commander Cody Band: Blending Texas swing with roadhouse boogey woogey, and wickedly-funny lyrics, Commander Cody has shared the stage with the likes of The Grateful Dead, New Riders of the Purple Sage, and many more. Their classic live album is ranked by Rolling Stone Magazine in its Top 100 Albums of All Time. The Mallett Brothers Band: From the back woods of Maine come the Mallett Brothers Band, with a freewheeling, rocking outlaw style of country rock that has that rare combination of lyrical hooks and foot stomping instrumentals. Molly Hatchet: One of the most famous Southern Rock bands of all time, Molly Hatchet, will bring their mixture of rock and roll, blues, country and gospel to Lake George for one special evening, playing their hits like “Flirtin’ with Disaster” and many others. These iconic rock and roll stars will play under the stars at the beautiful Festival Commons in Lake George. Saturday | 7pm | Festival Commons | Lake George

Party on the Pier

Open to All! Live Music, Great Food and Drinks, and Incredible Views. Americade’s Party on the Pier takes place on the steamboat pier at the foot of Lake George on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. You can’t ask for a better place to grab a seat and a drink when you walk out of Americade’s Expo. What’s a party without some food? There will be burgers, hot dogs, pulled pork and sausage w/ peppers available for purchase. The pier is located next to Americade’s huge free parking area, and you can leave your gear (including anything you just purchased) at the Free Coat and Helmet Check. Sit back and relax, because this Americade venue is the best-kept secret in town. Don’t forget to check out the special Saturday BBQ right after The Geico Parade. Thursday & Friday | 11:30a-3:30pm | Lake George Steamboat Dock Saturday’s Geico Parade rolls down to the foot of the lake for Live Music, Great Food, Prizes, Incredible Views, and the best destination possible for its post-parade party...the shores of Lake George! The Party on the Pier will begin when the parade ends, on the Lake George Steamboat Dock. It will be thrilling as the massive ships (and their loud horns) greet you as you pull onto the pier to park (limited to the first 200 people). A great band will be playing on the pier, as the chefs provide a fun picnic (for ticket holders) in a beautiful and unique setting. If you haven’t yet purchased your ticket, stop by the Holiday Inn on Canada Street to see if there are any left! If you’re running late and want to take your chances, there may be some available on-site. Saturday’s special menu includes BBQ Chicken: Salad Buffet: tossed salad, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans; Rolls & Butter, Beverages, and Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream! Thousands of dollars in prizes will be awarded - your chances of winning are great! Saturday | 11:30a-3:30pm | Lake George Steamboat Dock

HELMET SAFETY

ON ITS HEAD STRONGER. SAFER. LIGHTER. COOLER. PERIOD. Finally. A helmet worthy of the

rider you are—a leader. Trendsetter. Out to enjoy the open road—with comfort and safety. The Kirsh helmet. A revolution in helmet design. With a patented fluid displacement liner, tested tougher against impact than other leading helmet brands—by a lot. Better impact resistance, yet it’s thinner, cooler, and lighter. It makes today’s old-design helmets with their heavy, thick styrofoam liners look like they belong in a museum of helmet history.
