Chair As I write this, the pumpkins are on the porch, frost is forming in the morning, and snow can be seen in the mountains; which means one thing: There are plenty of riding months left in the riding season! Winter riding clothes, chemical heating packs, and a good anti-fogging face shield can extend the season a long time. Sure, at some point we need to yield to snow and salt on the roads, but there’s nothing like a late, late season ride with the bracing wind freezing the smile on my face. When I ride in November I take special notice of any other riders on the road. Though I wave at all, I notice the number of waves being returned is increased during these months. Yep, the brotherhood we all share is deepened when we’re all freezing our bums off. At Americade, when the weather has turned chilly, it means that we’re neck deep in the planning stages. Though we work on the following year’s Americade days after the current one concludes, the “work” really ramps up as the snow threatens in the mountains. As you read this, Team Americade is busily determining the best routes, finding the recently paved roads, and testing out the best venues in the region. Americade, after all, is a riding rally, with you all logging more miles behind the bars than at any other large event in the U.S., which is why we pour over all the route details. We’re also helmet-deep in planning the non-riding events, and we’re always seeking new, memorable and sometimes crazy activities to offer you. Past looney ideas included laser shows on top of a mountain (very magical to everyone standing there in the mist), train rides in open cars (soot washes off with water…), and most recently the fantastic new fireworks show launched from two barges on the lake (the largest and best fireworks show ever seen in the area). To some degree, you are partners in our lunacy, so A) you too are a little nuts, and B) please don’t hesitate to send us your suggestions. In early February, we’ll open early signup, and thousands of you will see what we’ve been working on, and you’ll see that Americade 2015 has some surprises up its sleeve. We look forward to you returning and seeing your smiles. Ride Safely, Christian

2014

Review

Sunny skies & plenty of smiles kicked off Ameri-week as a crowd of eager folks gathered at Holiday Inn Registration to check in for a week of motorcycle fun! New this year--Classic & Premium Pass holders had a chance to win a 2014 Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide Custom, at the Friday Night Celebration, as part of their registration! Many got a head start Monday morning on collecting stamps for the Scavenger Hunt; while others spent time enjoying all Lake George has to offer before heading over to Americade Headquarters at Fort William Henry (FWH) for Special Pre-registration Opening Events; including a Newcomers’ Meeting, Stunt Shows & Opening Dinner... followed by Rider Magazine’s Opening Celebration Party! Tuesday morning was the Grand Opening for all the regularly scheduled Americade Events & Activities....TourExpo, MiniTours, Demo Rides & Displays, Motorcycle Stunt Riders, Boat Cruises, Americade University, Motorcycle Judging & Contests, Evening Entertainment & more! Day or night there was always something going on. Every evening was jam packed with Special Events to keep the party rolling throughout the week. • Tuesday: Beach Party by Scala Rider • Wednesday: Championship Rodeo by Harley-Davidson • Thursday: Comedy Show by Yuasa and The Festival of Lights • Friday: Friday Night Spectacular by Tour Master. • Saturday: The Dunlop Parade, Geico Get Up & Go Breakfast, Party at the Ranch, Shopping, Special Tour, Comedy & more!

With so much going on, The Official Americade Program was the BEST way to keep track of all the fun things to do & see. Folks used the Program as a guide to find their way from place to place, see what vendors were represented at TourExpo, look for a good place to eat, manage their busy schedule, and fill-in any gaps found in the day. They were also able to see which motorcycle industry and local businesses partnered with Americade to make the week a blast. Can you believe over $80,000 in Door Prizes were handed out to lucky Americaders as part of Major & Daily Door Prizes and sponsored Events & Activities! The prizes started coming in early spring when Rick Mead of Lima, OH won a ScalaRider Q1 Team Headset in the 2014 Early Bird Competition. He was selected by random drawing from a pool of folks who registered before March 15, 2014! The list of partners & contributors is long. For a partial list of companies donating motorcycle related products & services see page 50; for a complete listing of contributors, including local businesses and other industries, visit americade.com Throughout the week we had a team of photographers, and quite a few attendees, out capturing the fun in pictures so we can relive the excitement, with you, in these pages. Have fun with the memories and we look forward to making more next year at Americade 2015 (June 2-6 with special Pre-Registration Events June 1)!

Opening Day Events

Opening Day Events were the BEST WAY to get the Fun Started! First-time and Seasoned Attendees alike showed up for the informative Newcomers’ Meeting to learn the insider tips to get the most out of the Americade Experience. A host of Volunteers were on hand to answer questions about the multitude of Events & Activities on the week’s schedule. If folks weren’t able to make it on Monday afternoon, there was a second chance to get the inside scoop during a Tuesday afternoon meeting. Before heading over to the Party, ticket holders stopped by the White Lion Room for the Opening Celebration Dinner which included Chicken Breast Florentine, Baked Haddock, Pasta Primavera & a Beef Carving Station...all that and NY Cheesecake for dessert. Folks enjoyed the spectacular view of the Lake George Basin as they tucked into an amazing meal and visited with friends---old & new. There was plenty to do all evening---including exciting Motorcycle Stunt Shows & Demonstrations by The Brigade FMX Stunt Team, Swoop Stunt Riders & The Florida Drill Team! The fun didn’t stop there...under the Big Top Tent folks were entertained by the hardworking Rock ‘n Roll sounds of The Master Cylinders. The evening sponsor, Rider Magazine, brought thousands of dollars in door prizes from many industry contributors.

The new 100 mile northwest Poker Run route had folks exploring the rich Adirondack scenery and making stops at some interesting places. A favorite check-in location was the Westmount Health Facility where residents lined up to greet players as they pulled in to get their card punched. The Blue Moose Restaurant, Stewart’s Scoop Shops & Town of Thurman also provided welcoming check points for players as they filled out their playing hand.

Scavenger Hunt In the quest to win a Scala Rider Communication System, riders cruised into 10 area communities in search of the specially marked banners denoting their target stop. Business owners, where the banners were displayed, stamped each player’s card with part of a special message. Only 8 stamps were required to play. However, the folks who “went all the way” and visited all 10 communities were given a Second Chance Card when they arrived at the FWH Activities Room to drop off their completed playing card in the Scavenger Hunt Drop Box! Richard Kochinski of Howell, NJ was chosen winner by random drawing during the Friday Night Celebration at FWH. We completed The Hunt over 2 days and enjoyed the towns we visited. Most were excited to share a story and talk about their business. I regret that we didn’t have more time to visit all the different businesses since the ones we chose to stop at were tremendous. Mini Tours Tour guides were great. One of the best rides I’ve had in 22 years of attendance.

Bob Cihil Natrona Hts, PA Valleys & Vistas

The Olympic Bobsled was fabulous-I’d do it again! Maggie Bedard Aberdeen, MD Olympic Experience

Guided & Unguided MiniTours are a specialty of Americade. They covered a lot of open road and explored a myriad of out of the way places. Along the way riders and passengers were treated to incredible vistas, unique points of interest and delectable meals (included with every MiniTour). Early every morning MiniTourers arrived---with their bellies & tanks full---at Beach Rd for a day of spectacular roads and riding adventures. Once a wave was ready to go, Guided MiniTours began departing. One after another hundreds of motorcycles would take off toward the day’s destination. Folks were accompanied by a team of experienced guides who knew every curve, dip, and scenic rest stop along the way. For those tourers who came equipped with communication headsets, there was rolling commentary by the guides about all the cool places they passed and were about to see. Guided MiniTours featured out of the way lakes & mountain passes, stunning views of the Lake George, Lake Champlain & Sacandaga Lake shorelines, historic covered bridges, pastoral byways, and a jaunt into the past at a quaint country store. These tours were perfect for riders who liked leaving the planning to others and traveling in groups.

Unguided MiniTours allowed for a more laid back approach to riding some extraordinary roads while still being a part of a group at points during the trip. Throughout the week solo riders & small groups took off into & through the Adirondacks, along serene mountain lakes, through the bucolic Vermont countryside, over gnarly mountain passes, and back to the events awaiting them at Americade. Riders were able to follow skillfully crafted maps provided for them to get the most out of the experience...or follow their own nose to make new discoveries along the way. Departure times were provided to assure folks would arrive at prearranged meeting places. A new twist on the Unguided MiniTour was Saturday’s special Adirondack Escape. It was just the thing for folks looking for an afternoon ride between the Dunlop Parade and Comedy Show later that night. Folks were provided a detailed map and a Freedom Pass meal voucher good for one of 5 restaurants in the Lake George area. The shorter ride was just enough time to explore a corner of the Adirondack Park and make it back for last minute TourExpo shopping before getting ready for the evening’s entertainment at Fort William Henry! Whether Americaders chose one of the 6 Guided or 5 Unguided MiniTours---all options included stops at unique locations, an amazing meal, and door prizes from the ride sponsor!

Beach Party Cowabunga Dude! Joey Pucci & the American Longboards made a SPLASH at Tuesday night’s Beach Party. Their rock ‘n roll beach sounds got people up on the dance floor shaking and shimmying. Hoola hoops added to the beachy fun. Decked out in Hawaiian shirts, attendees had a great time. Dinner was epic. Dudes and babes lined up for scrumptious grilled Lomi Salmon, melt in your mouth Hawaiian BBQ Pig, lip smacking Mango BBQ Chicken, and delicious sides. No one bailed out of this meal. Scala Rider provided gnarly prizes - including choice of Scala Rider headset.

Stunt Shows Thrills started early with the Brigade FMX Team and Swoop Stunt Riders getting Monday’s Opening Celebration started. They entertained with an insane array of tricks you previously thought impossible! The Central Florida Drill Team followed up with an exhibition of motorcycle riding precision and control we all aspire to. If folks couldn’t make it to the Opening Night...the performers wowed spectators Tuesday & Wednesday as well. Daredevils Unlimited performed at TourExpo all week. The audience was mystified as the rider clung to the vertical Wall of Death as he zoomed up, down & around the arena. Not to be outdone by the impressive performances from earlier in the week...the all female acrobatic motorcycle stunt act, Circus Una, took to the skies at the Friday Night Spectacular. They stunned and amazed the audience as they whirled, flipped, and glided 30 feet over their heads! The week of stunning & stupefying stunts ended with a redhot bang at the Party at the Ranch where the BMX Brigade Team performed one last time to an appreciative crowd.

Factory

Demos & Displays

Hands down one of the MOST exciting activities at Americade! Factory Demo Rides were a popular and exciting way for riders to experience the power & performance of the bikes they’d been dreaming of. All week long pass holders got up bright & early to get on these rides. The really determined riders were able to do two or three in one day! Nowhere in the world have so many manufacturers put together SO many bikes (in one place) for folks to take out for a spin. Back by popular demand, Shoei Helmets helped enhance the “New Ride” experience by fitting folks with the right helmet, and offered Helmet Demos to those who took a spin on one of the many motorcycles available at Americade Headquarters at Fort William Henry. Americade hosted 16 manufacturers who rolled out 100’s of bikes throughout the week; PLUS there were 5 more companies at TourExpo offering demos &/or displays. Without a doubt, Americade was the place to test ride before making a decision on the Best Ride.

Adventure Events We all know the Adirondacks have some great roads to ride... but did you know that there is so much more to do & see? Folks signed up for some awesome adventures to find out more about this area and knock a few items off their bucket list. Those who took an Adirondack Scenic Plane ride were treated to majestic peaks, mountain lakes, and pastoral valleys as they soared through the region. The Hot Air Balloon adventure gave folks a view from above...but at a much gentler pace as they floated above it all for an hour long ride. It’s easy to see why folks wanted to swap their motorcycle for a different kind of ride. Saddle Up was the best way to get into the back woods and get to see some of the best views of Lake George. Not to be outdone in the “unique vantage point” category... the Zip Lining & Ropes Course got folks 10’-60’ off the ground, gliding through the trees, swinging from platforms, & traipsing through the leaves on suspended bridges. Have you checked Americade’s Adventure Events off your list yet?

Boat

Cruises

Cruising Lake George is one of the best ways to see the area. Majestic mountain views, quaint cottages & Adirondack Great Camps, and unspoiled forests tumbling down to the water’s edge are but a few of the many delightful attractions. Lake George Bay is also one of the best places to look back at all the Americade activity...the doings at Fort William Henry (FWH), TourExpo, and Lake George Village can all be seen from the excellent vantage point. Special Americade Cruises, with a fantastic meal, music & door prizes, sailed from Lake George basin daily!

Cruising with Americade is a yearly Must-Do! Joan & Frank Huebert Kansas City, MO

18

Tuesday’s 3-hour cruise went further than any other Americade Cruise---Honda’s Adirondack Islands Cruise sailed into the archipelago islands called “The Narrows”. The steep mountains, on either side of this narrow stretch, echoed sounds as folks chatted, dined on a sumptuous meal and glided by lush forests and enchanting islands. Old friends & new met up on Wednesday evening as party goers could have sworn the Dunlop Mardi Gras Cruise was floating on the Louisiana Bayou. Folks were virtually transported by the tantalizing Cajun Feast and the Creole La-La & Zydeco Music.

Unique Experience & LOTS of Fun! Thanks for hooking us up on Tuesday night. Jake Griffith Floyd, VA

www.americade.com

Thursday voyagers enjoyed a 2-hour Scenic Cruise & Buffet by Tour Master. As they swung north along the shoreline, admiring the unique cottages & homes, the ship’s captain regaled passengers with stories of Lake George’s unique place in history. Friday night’s Tour Master & Yamaha cruises were a BLAST! Following the Awards Ceremony, folks made their way down to the docks, where ticket-holders boarded ships for a 1-hour cruise into the bay. As they floated under the stars, the sky exploded in an amazing show of pyrotechnics. It was certainly an experience to be remembered.

Once again, everyone was very polite & friendly. Cruise was a lot of fun (and I won a jacket, too!) Gary & Nancy Heuer Myerstown, PA

Saturday’s traditional Harley-Davidson Cruise set sail mid-day for an afternoon of cool breezes, good food & spectacular views. Folks grabbed their food and found a place, either inside or out on the deck, to kick back and enjoy the serene waters of Lake George. We can’t say it enough--- between specialty dining, party atmosphere, stunning views, and fantastic door prizes from generous sponsors Americade Cruises offered folks a boat load of fun all week long.

Cruising lets us enjoy the tranquility of Lake George and the Adirondacks; while still being part of an exciting motorcycle event! Clara & Alfred Dahl Rolette, ND

the deals are hot

First thing Tuesday morning, riders pulled in to the Free Motorcycle Parking at TourExpo and dropped off their gear for safe-keeping at the Kymco Coat & Helmet Check. Both were manned by the friendly volunteers from the Prospect Child & Family Center. From there they took the short walk to Million Dollar Beach and lined up outside TourExpo’s Main Gate ready to get the shopping started and pick up appointment tickets for all kinds of Installations & Services. Throughout the week there were several workshops & displays • Allstate conducted a dynamic Accident Scene Management Workshop. • 9/11 “Never Forget” Exhibit • Harley-Davidson Grand Prize Motorcycle • Christina, Ducati, Hannigan, Trigg & Ural Displays (some even got to go out for a spin ) • Orange County Choppers Art Bikes

When folks needed a break from shopping & excitement--the thrilling Daredevils Unlimited stunt rider entertained the crowd with his gravity defying performances in the Wall of Death arena. The arena was conveniently located next to the Food Court where there were plenty of vittles available to satisfy appetites with everything from down-home BBQ, to savory crepes, to NY Style Cheesecake. Homemade Root Beer and madeto-order lemonade topped off the meal and washed it all down. With all these goods and services in one place there was no need to go anywhere else!

21

Rodeo BBQ The crowd kicked off Wednesday evening by bellying up to the Texas BBQ at the Painted Pony. The plentiful BBQ chicken and pulled pork had been slowly smoked on the premises since the rooster crowed. Y’all know that a BBQ contains all the fixin’s including coleslaw and corn on the cob along with yummy desserts. After getting their fill of grub, the crowd then moseyed over to the coral for a real Championship Rodeo. Cowboys adjusted their chaps inside the bucking chutes anxious for their chance to compete for prizes and a chance at the year-end trophy buckle. Bull Riding, Team Roping, Bareback Bronc Riding - these guys must be loco. The pretty cowgirls raced against the clock in a clover leaf pattern in the barrel racing competition. Harley-Davidson and McDermott’s Harley-Davidson were on hand to award 100’s of dollars in great door prizes between events.

Dinner by the Lake The White Lion Room at Fort William Henry, overlooking scenic Lake George, was the perfect setting for Wednesday & Thursday night’s gourmet dinners. The evening was hosted by Christa & Florian Neuhauser of RoadRUNNER Magazine. They visited with folks and shared stories of their motorcycling adventures while dining on a mouth-watering buffet including a carved sirloin of beef with au jus and horseradish sauce, sautéed chicken picatta, baked salmon, and pasta primavera.

Danny warmed up the crowd with his unique take on life ...with all its ups & downs, family events, and odd happenings he’s been unwittingly a part of. The crowd was primed for Alonzo to take the stage. Always charming and ready to riff with the audience --- Alonzo jumped in talking about everything from the motorcycles they ride, the places they’ve been, and what’s happening in the world. His quick wit had them rolling in the aisles with laughter as he playfully teased just about every motorcycle group represented in the crowd.

Wednesday & Thursday were exclusive Americade Shows and Saturday was open to the public. Yuasa was on hand, all three nights, to offer up super-charged door prizes and keep the excitement going between acts.

VIP Tent All Classic & Premium Pass holders were welcome to stop by the Kawasaki VIP Tent for refreshments Tuesday - Saturday. Located shore-side on scenic Lake George, this was the place to relax after a day of Demo Rides, MiniTours & shopping at TourExpo. In addition to cookies & drinks every day, there were “Special Complimentary” treats during the week: • Tuesday’s special offering was “The Taste of NY” with a cornucopia of delicious NY State produced food samples. • On Wednesday, Ben & Jerry’s of Lake George contributed oh so satisfying scoops of dairy fresh ice cream!

Breakfast by the Lake With so much to do and see at Americade...it was important to start the day with a hearty meal. Fort William Henry’s White Lion Room was the perfect place for folks to enjoy a delicious Breakfast by the Lake before getting on a Factory Demo, get an early start at TourExpo, or head out on a MiniTour. The breakfast buffet started at 7 am for the early risers and was served until 11 am for those who wanted a more leisurely start to the day.

Americade University:

Featured Speakers & Seminars

Seminars and workshops at Americade University are one of the things that make Americade unique. Folks have the opportunity to participate in group discussions about that thing that brings us all together and get the 4-1-1 on everything from Basic Motorcycle Maintenance, to learning how to plan for the next big trip, to tips and techniques to improve their riding. Most walk away with a deeper understanding of the sport they love. It’s quite an education! Not only are the seminars educational, they’re also entertaining. Throughout the week several Featured Speakers took to the stage to share their experiences in the world of riding: On Tuesday Rider Magazine’s Road Test Editor, Greg Drevenstedt, shared anecdotes about the 300+ motorcycles he’s had the chance to ride over the years. He regaled the audience with thrilling stories and of lessons learned on two wheels. AMA Chair of the Board of Directors and MSF Coach, Maggie McNally-Bradshaw, certainly knows her stuff. As a woman in motorcycling, she has a unique perspective on the sport and wasn’t shy about sharing her passion & experience with those gathered on Wednesday afternoon.

30

Later that same evening former MCN & Wing World Editor & International tour organizer, Fred Rau, took to the stage to muse at the odd, convoluted and often totally accidental ways models & trends in motorcycling have developed. It was an evening to be entertained, educated, and inspired to take on a new adventure. The always entertaining winner of NBC’s Last Comic Standing & true motorcycle junkie, Alonzo Bodden, kept the conversation going on Thursday afternoon as he and a couple hundred folks explored what they all had in common...motorcycles of all kinds! Schuberth Helmets helped us encourage folks to take in as many seminars as their schedule would allow by offering one of their great S2 Full Face Helmets as a prize for a lucky participant. All they had to do to enter was participate in 2 Daily Seminars and at least 1 Featured Speaker Seminar, fill out their playing card & drop it in the box! This year Mike Snyder from West Point, PA was “Top of the Class”. He completed the playing card provided at the beginning of the week and submitted it to win the Schuberth prize. Congratulations, Mike!

Field Events Singles & teams came out Thursday afternoon to brush up their riding skills and have some fun doing it! Bob Stamper from Queensbury, NY took the trophy for Slowest Rider; while Harold Boling of Albany, NY came in second with a slightly faster time. Fashion Show

I’ve been coming to Americade since 1990 & this year was the year that I made it to the Fashion Show. I had a great time & won’t miss it again! Louis Ramm-Carlstadt, NJ

Wearing the right gear while riding is important for safety...but who says you can’t look good doing it? On Thursday night the Ameri-models strutted down the catwalk in Towers Hall at Fort William Henry during the Manufacturers’ Fashion Show. They were sporting all the latest in motorcycle apparel; including Leathers, Ts, High-Tech Jackets, Accessories & more. Fashions & thousands of dollars in Door Prizes were contributed by Can Am-Spyder, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Indian, Kawasaki, Star, and Victory. All of the clothes modeled on stage were the prizes handed out to lucky winners. Always willing to lend a hand, Fred Rau entertained folks as he emceed the event, introduced fashions and handed door prizes to members of the audience.

Festival of Lights

New route through town was awesome. My hats off to the change that engages the town with the event. All that participated (myself included) were very pleased. John Humphrey-New Egypt, NJ

The evening started out with a first for the Light Parade. Just after dark, folks assembled at the north end of town and set out toward Americade HQ. As the motorcade made its way through the crowd on Canada Street, it illuminated the streets with a brilliant display of lights. Like The Pied Piper, the parade beckoned folks to follow to FWH for The Festival of Lights. Once there, folks were entertained by Fire Eaters, a Hot Air Balloon, Functional & Decorative Lighting Contests and FWH aglow with thousands of lights... it was a spectacle to behold. Friday Night

Spectacular

Americade’s biggest night was better than ever! It was ALL NEW and right in the middle of the action. Americade Headquarters at Fort William Henry was the setting for all the fun; which got started under, in & around the Big Top Tent and Towers Hall with People’s Choice Judging, a Dinner Buffet, Dessert, and the grooving rhythms of the soulful & sassy Funkalicious Band. After Dinner & Dessert, the Awards Ceremony and Door Prize Drawings got started. This year we teamed up with McDermott’s Harley-Davidson to give away a 2014 Dyna Super Glide Custom! This was a “Must Be Present To Win” drawing...so the excitement in the crowd was palpable. In addition to over $30,000 in Door Prizes the evening’s sponsor, Tour Master, gave away $100’s more to the Contest Winners awarded that evening. Circus Una, an all female hi-wire motorcycle-daredevil-trio, amazed the audience as they & a motorcycle balanced upon a thin wire while whirling around doing stunt after stunt overhead! While all this excitement was building to the big finish...ticket holders made their way down to the boat docks to embark on a 1-hour Fireworks Cruise in Lake George Basin. From aboard one of two boats, they had a unique vantage point for the dazzling Fireworks Show over the lake! It was a spectacular evening to sit out under the stars with tens of thousands of friends. There wasn’t a bad seat for miles around and everybody got to enjoy the show together. It was a BLAST!

Sensational Saturday

After a full night of frolicking on Friday...Saturday started out with a mellow & welcoming Geico Get Up & Go Breakfast at the Lake George Firehouse. Food was served by volunteers from the Open Door Mission of Glens Falls. All proceeds benefited this worthy cause. As the day’s fun built, the next stop was the Westbrook Rd lineup for the Dunlop Parade. Ameri-paraders were encouraged to dress up in costume and enter to win some great prizes. This year the parade fell one day after the 70th anniversary of D-day. In commemoration of the brave men & women of WWII and all those who serve, Americade raised funds during the parade for Building for America’s Bravest---an organization that builds adaptive homes for the most catastrophically injured U.S. service members. Grand Marshall Colonel Eric Hessey led the Dunlop Parade with the Best of Show Winner, the NYS Police & Red Knights. To the delight of thousands, the parade wound its way up & down Canada Street and headed south to familiar territory. Roaring Brook Ranch welcomed us back for a foot stompin’ good time for a Party at the Ranch. Lake George Rotary dished up some yummy food while the fellas from the Stony Creek Band and the FMX Brigade Streetbike Stunt Show kept folks entertained. Ben & Jerry’s of Lake George was on hand to scoop up some sweet delight for the first 1,000 partiers. We even found some time to give away over $20,000 in Door Prizes to some lucky winners! It was a GREAT day!

Best of Show and People’s

Choice

Best of Show was awarded to the cream of the crop of the motorcycles evaluated by four impartial and well qualified judges at Americade. The People’s Choice contest was by invitation only and the contestants were comprised of all the First Place Winners chosen from the individual Motorcycle Judging classes during the week. Everybody who attended the Friday Night Spectacular at Fort William Henry had the opportunity to vote for their favorite bike. It was no surprise that the People agreed with the Judges on this one. William Ruth won both contests with his 2008 Honda Gold Wing Civil War Tribute Bike. The inspiration for William’s masterpiece started with his life long interest in the Civil War & Gettysburg. William describes himself as an enthusiast on the subject of the Civil War, not an expert; he lives 180 miles from Gettysburg and visits often to gain more inspiration for his bike.

When one walks around this machine its apparent why it was chosen for both coveted titles. The custom paint job depicts the Civil War with scenes dedicated to the Union on the right side and the “Stars & Bars” on the left. The windshield is etched with the portraits of President Lincoln and Generals Lee & Grant. At night, the etchings turn blue from the embedded fiber optics. With over 2,000 LEDs illuminating the unique art on this bike, it’s no surprise that William Ruth also won the Standard Computer Light Judging as well! Winning not only one...but two motorcycle judging awards is a noteworthy accomplishment. Adding the Light Judging win makes it a Show Stopping Triple Play! This is truly an amazing piece of art and we’re honored to list it among the many winners at Americade! We can’t wait to see what he does over the winter to add to this stunning tribute to “The Blue & The Gray”!

Other Events

Rolling Thru America Tours are designed as high end group touring exclusive to only 100 people, lasting 4 days, bringing riders to places that someone would typically not be able to access. These tours are hugely popular, with some of the tours selling out in as little as 4 days. If you haven’t been on one of these tours, do yourself a favor and read on. The Rolling Thru The Finger Lakes group stayed 4 days at a wonderful hotel located on the shores of pristine Seneca Lake. We guided the group along wide open rural scenery, with long low rolling hills; many, many lake views from above, and many long lake side roads below. They saw beautiful vineyards, quaint towns, Amish farms and their horse-drawn buggies, and unexpected dramatic waterfalls. Throughout the weekend, and along the way, the group enjoyed expertly prepared meals at unique locales. Everywhere we turned there was something interesting to see & do. Even a little rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of this group. A highlight among highlights is Watkin’s Glen Racetrack. A pace car escorted the group on several leisurely and safe laps of the track. The track is surprisingly beautiful, and unless your name is Andretti, it’s an experience that the attendees will probably never have again.

46

A couple of weeks later, Rolling Thru Pennsylvania brought 100 lucky riders to southern PA, offering a wonderful mix of winding routes into the Allegheny Mountains, followed by meandering rural rides through farmland, with more covered bridges than Vermont, and history that is second to none. Attendees stayed in the historic town of Gettysburg, at one of the nicest hotels RTA has ever offered. Following a wonderful welcome dinner, the group departed the next day on a blue-bird sunny day, first getting a private motorcycle tour of famous battlegrounds, then riding through rural farmland to a stunning 1888 mansion. Amazing lunch & private gardens, followed by winding, smooth & scenic roads. What could be better? The next day of riding! The group headed west into the Alleghenies, along little known, curvy secondary roads (clearly designed by a motorcyclist), arriving at a 5 star resort. An absolutely spectacular location, it’s famous for hosting heads of state from around the world. More memorable riding, and a festive group dinner closed out what many folks thought was their best day of riding EVER! What a way to wrap up another successful Rolling Thru America Tour!

Saturday was the big bash of the weekend. As folks rolled in from Tours, Poker Run, or Scavenger Hunt they made sure to get in on the Judging & Contests before dinner at The Summit. Afterward, thousands lined the banks of Summit Pond for the pyrotechnic performance & motorcycle burn by Cirque de Fuego. To cap the evening---the mountains thundered & the skies lit up with an incredible fireworks display overhead. Vendor Village was hopping with motorcycle related products including leathers, accessories, trailers & more. American Trikes had a fleet of machines on display and Yamaha & Cyclewise Ducati of Vermont were on hand running demo rides all weekend long.
