Cliff Scholz, noted as the designer of many mansions with Mediterranean revival or other traditionally inspired architecture, has moved his firm, CMSA to a freshly renovated headquarters building at 300 S. Orange Ave. in Sarasota. CMSA shares the building with SHS Design, an interiors firm run by Susan Clifford M. Scholz Architects (CMSA) and SHS Design, an interior design firm owned by Susan Hritz Scholz, have moved to a renovated heaquarters building at 300 S. Orange Ave. in Sarasota. Hritz Scholz, Cliff's wife. Unlike much of his work, the building features crisp modernist design language. The architect said his firm's younger architects prefer contemporary

design and he would like to nudge the firm in that direction. CMSA has been awarded the “Best Of Houzz” for 2013 by Houzz, an online platform featuring residential remodeling and design. In its 20th year, CMSA was chosen by the more than 11 million monthly users of Houzz. The award has two criteria — customer satisfaction and design. Some photos from a reception held there Thursday:

Clifford M. Scholz Architects (CMSA) and SHS Design, an interior design firm owned by Susan Hritz Scholz, have moved to a renovated heaquarters building at 300 S. Orange Ave. in Sarasota. This partition behind marketing director Kathy Hirsch's desk is made from old cardboard cylinders at the center of rolls of paper used for printing blueprints. Once empty, the 3-foot-long cylinders were cut into 12-inch sections and connected with wood glue. The larger cylinders serve as mailboxes for the CMSA staff. Staff photo / Harold Bubil; 2-21-2013.
