HOUGHTON HALL: PORTRAIT OF AN ENGLISH COUNTRY HOUSE OPENS JUNE 22. THE EXHIBITION MARKS THE FIRST TIME THE RENOWNED COLLECTION OF THE MARQUESSES OF CHOLMONDELEY, HOUSED AT HOUGHTON HALL, THE FAMILY ESTATE IN NORFOLK, WILL TRAVEL OUTSIDE OF ENGLAND. BUILT IN THE EARLY 1700S BY SIR ROBERT WALPOLE, ENGLAND’S FIRST PRIME MINISTER, THE HOME WAS RENOWNED AS ONE OF THE FINEST PALLADIAN HOUSES AND ONE OF THE MOST EXTENSIVE COLLECTIONS IN BRITAIN. HOUGHTON BECAME NOTORIOUS WHEN HIS GRANDSON SOLD SIR ROBERT’S COLLECTION OF OLD MASTER PAINTINGS TO CATHERINE THE GREAT IN 1779.

17. JOHN C. FREEMAN WEATHER MUSEUM www.weathermuseum.org  Founded in 1987 by Jill F. Hasling and her father, Dr. John C. Freeman, both Certified Consulting Meteorologists and Fellows of the American Meteorological Society. The nonprofit corporation was founded to respond to a need to educate the public about weather and weather safety. 18. ASIA SOCIETY TEXAS CENTER www.asiasociety.org  Transcendent Deities of India: The Everyday Occurrence of the Divine continues and features modern and contemporary representations of Hindu gods and goddesses which preserve the tangible connection between worshippers and the objects of their reverence. Works include photographs by artist Manjari Sharma and earlier works from the Raja Ravi Varma Press. Participate in free events like Creation Station: Indian Fold Painting inspired by the current exhibit where you will create works as well as hear a storytelling session to connect visitors with the importance of deities for everyday life in India.

12. RICE UNIVERSITY ART GALLERY www.ricegallery.org

Dinh Q. Lê: Crossing the Farther Shore is an installation commissioned by the Gallery, on view thru August 28. Dinh Q. Lê is the first Vietnamese artist to have a solo show at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. His approach to photography is as a malleable material to splice, interweave and distort to explore his own relationship to Vietnam’s complicated cultural and political history. 14. CONTEMPORARY ARTS MUSEUM HOUSTON www.camh.org 

Mexico City-based artist, Melanie Smith’s Xilitla: Dismantled 1; Bulto: Fragments; and Elevator close June 15. The three video-based installations cover work from 2010, 2011 and 2012. Ongoing is Trenton Doyle Hancock: Skin & Bones, 20 Years of Drawing which portrays the artist’s epic narrative surrounding the Mounds and the cast of colorful and often not so colorful characters who populate a wildly fantastic invented landscape. 15.
