Restoration Times expounds the close ties between the Old and New Testaments. We teach the continuity and harmony that extend from Yahweh’s actions anciently down through His present activity in Yahshua the Messiah. This was also the conviction of the early New Testament Assembly. This publication is sent free of charge, made possible through the tithes and offerings of those who desire to see the truth of Scripture restored in our day. © 2014 Yahweh’s Restoration Ministry

When It Comes to Salvation, the Onus Is on Us!

N

early 100 years ago a man named Robert Ripley started a franchise that became known as Ripley’s Believe It or Not! It was a novel idea, showcasing bizarre items and events so unusual that many would question his claims. Is it really true, or just made up? So much misinformation about the Bible has been ongoing for 20 centuries that most truth-seekers are incredulous when they finally dig into their Bibles and discover what the Word actually says. They are amazed when they start connecting the dots and see what was hidden in plain sight for 2,000 years. The vast majority of churchgoers believe that today’s church teachings and beliefs picked up where Yahshua and the apostles left off in a smooth and seamless transition. They have no idea that Christianity in the first New Testament centuries was manipulated into apostasy through a variety of powerful influences. After several hundred years of intense turmoil, infighting, heated controversy, and even slaughter, Christianity was left with: • cross-bred traditions and heathen

customs • man-made teachings originating from far outside of Scripture, and • an incredible fusing of beliefs from mystery religions into a single amalgamation. The church was eager to accommodate converts by compromising truth and embracing beliefs and practices of foreign religions. Add to that the natural desire for the popular, broad way and you have a recipe for a train wreck. All of this has contributed to what we see today in nominal worship that has little in common with the teachings of Yahweh’s Word. We are about to slaughter some sacred cows and pour new wine into very old wine skins. Messiah’s Message Mostly Missing

The New Testament is the most revered but least understood book in history. Believe it or not, two-thirds of the message that our Savior Yahshua brought in the New Testament has gone untaught since the first century. The church is guilty of gross negligence at the highest levels for conveying only a

fraction of Yahshua’s teachings and placing the rest under lock and key. One result is that today’s churchgoer believes Yahshua came only to die for his or her sins, leaving behind a collection of sweet platitudes You will never hear today’s clerics reveal the whole purpose and plan of Yahshua’s coming, let alone all that He taught. That way they can fill in the gaps with their own beliefs and doctrines. Convinced by ministers that they have salvation locked up, millions do not know even the basics of what salvation means or how it is awarded. They never take the Scriptures out of their closets and open them up to find out what they actually teach. Because of that passivity deception marches on. In John 4:34 Yahshua revealed His mission in a nutshell. His disciples had just invited Him to sit down to eat, and He said, “My meat [my sustaining nourishment in this temporal life] is to do the will of Him that sent me, and to finish His work.” His intense focus while on this earth was to fulfill His Father Yahweh’s goals, not His own. He said, “I am not come to destroy the law but to fulfill” it, Matthew 5:17. Restoration Times Magazine January-February 2014

The work that Yahweh started in the Old Testament and which Yahshua came to complete was to teach a select people to accept His Father’s will. Yahshua showed by His own life how to follow the ways of His Father Yahweh, which are revealed in the Old Testament through His commands to Israel. Cherry Picking the Low-Hanging Fruit

Modern worship in its preaching, prayers, and praise, focuses mainly on a few of the Son’s acts of mercy and forgiveness. This leads to the notion that all sin will always be instantly forgiven. Clerics cherry-pick the superlatives in Yahshua’s teachings, but ignore what brings us to them, which is the bedrock fundamentals of what He communicated every day of His ministry –  to obey His Father Yahweh. As a result few get past the elementary stages in their understanding while completely missing the whole point and purpose of a believer’s devout life. Because His people Israel could not handle the Truth, Yahweh expanded the scope to include ALL who would take hold of His promise. A key reason Yahshua the Messiah came to earth was to make it possible for all to become part of the covenant and come to salvation. This He did when He died to pay the death penalty our sins earned. Paul talks about outsiders being grafted into the Israelite promise in Romans chapters 9 and 11. The only salvation covenant Yahweh made with non-Israelites comes through grafting into the original covenant. Doing Yahweh’s WILL, the same thing Yahshua Himself said He was doing in John 4, is what Yahweh told Israel in chapter 28 of Deuteronomy. Yahweh said that if you obey Him you will reap great blessings. If you disobey, you will be cursed. That promise did not change in the New Testament. No fewer than 250 Old Testament passages and 55 New Testament verses tell us to obey the One we worship. Obedience to Yahweh’s teachings and commands is how we do His will. Malachi 3:6 and James 1:17 say that Yahweh Himself doesn’t change. And, like Father, like Son, Hebrews 13:8 informs us, “Yahshua Messiah is also the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” He and His Father are both constant and

4

consistent in their objective for this earth. Nothing changed their purpose in the New Testament. The basic promise is simply expanded now to include anyone with a desire to follow truth. Contrary to what most think, Yahshua explained in 1John 2:7 that He came to teach the original truths presented in the Old Testament. Then He went on to show how He magnified Old Testament laws. “Brethren, I write no new command-

disobedience. If you don’t believe in speed limits you won’t obey them. Let’s now return to the missing twothirds in church teachings to understand Yahshua’s other purposes for coming to earth. • He left us a perfect example by His daily life in how to obey His Father. • He Himself taught the gospel or good news. “We do teach about His life, and we

They never focus on the core, consistently talking around it, skirting the very point and purpose of Yahshua’s coming and Second Coming as well. ment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.” Then he showed how to apply law to life. Actual Meaning of John 3:16

Many fall back on the most quoted passage in all the Scriptures, John 3:16, thinking it frees them from any obligation to act on anything. “For Yahweh so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” The key word is “believeth.” It is from the Greek pisteuo. It means to induce one to do something by persuading, and it implies to obey as the result of persuasion. A parallel verse in the same chapter using the same Greek word (John 3:36), goes a bit further. “He that believeth (pisteuo) on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of Elohim abideth on him.” Vincent’s Word Studies in the New Testament notes that the words “believeth not” mean “obeyeth not.” It says, “Disbelief is regarded in its active manifestation, disobedience.” “Believeth not” is from the Greek term apeitheo and is translated “believe not” eight times, “disobedient” four times, “obey not” three times and “unbelieving” once. No wonder Almighty Yahweh disfavors the one who doesn’t believe. It is not just because of simple doubt or ignorance, but because disbelief equates to

teach what He taught,” is the anticipated response from the clerics. The problem is, they miss most of the target. They never focus on the core, consistently talking around it, skirting the very point and purpose of Yahshua’s coming and Second Coming as well. Their emphasis is on emotional peripherals. They talk of love, faith and grace. But the central message is the greatest story never told. They never get to the heart of Yahshua’s teachings or why He taught them. Everything Yahshua did and taught had a purpose and goal. That was to establish a called-out group who would one day rule this earth under Yahshua. What’s the Point with Heaven?

The cleric will talk about going to heaven but will never explain why! What is the reason for going there? He doesn’t tell you. He likely doesn’t know himself. The message conveyed at funerals is that everyone is going to heaven and that’s where everything stops. In funeral after funeral, no matter who died or how morally bankrupt his life, the deceased is always in “a better place” – up in heaven, of course. How do they know that? By what measure did the departed deserve such a mindboggling reward as heaven? What are they doing there besides smiling down on loved ones? What is the point of going there? No one ever says because they don’t know and they never go to the Word. Yahshua certainly knows. He lived there. He said no man (or woman) is in heaven, John 3:13. No one has ever gone

to heaven because that is not our intended reward. Churchianity completely misses the point and purpose of salvation, let alone where it will happen and why. Or if the cleric does know, it’s kept a tight secret. Rare is the teaching about what Yahshua said concerning the Kingdom. He called it the “evangel (gospel) of the Kingdom.” Teaching about the coming Kingdom is the other purpose for His being sent to earth. He said the righteous will be a kingdom of priests and will reign on the earth, not in heaven, Revelation 5:10. Notice what your Savior said in Revelation 2:26-27: “And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.” His gospel (evangel) focused on the Kingdom soon coming to earth. Preparing for the Kingdom is the whole goal of life on earth. Our purpose is to conform our minds and hearts now in order to be found worthy of priestly rulership in a new world coming to earth. Yahshua is going to reform this planet to follow the standards of His Father. He needs priests to fill key positions in His coming government.

Testament system of faith alone. There is not even a hint in the Old Testament that obedience would change. One would think something that earthshaking would have been at least suggested or hinted in the Old Testament. But there is no reference in the entire Bible about a coming change in obedience. The converse is true. Doing Yahweh’s will is all over the Scriptures from the beginning in Genesis to the end of Revelation. Obedience is shown by the patriarchs, prophets, Yahshua and His disciples. Ask the average churchgoer what the will of the Father is today and he will shrug his shoulders, oblivious to this vital, key teaching of Scripture.

Priestly Training Now

You don’t become a priest without rigorous preparation and training. You can’t be a judge without thoroughly knowing the law. We study and learn Kingdom ways now in this life. The law, which is the very constitution in Yahweh’s government now and in the future, will be applied throughout the world. It will go out from Zion when Yahshua establishes His rule as King, Isaiah 2:3. Our goal is to learn and live the Word now. When Yahshua said the purpose for His earthly life was to do the will of the Father and to finish His Father’s work, He provided a direct link to the Old Testament work of Yahweh. That work was unfinished in the Old Testament. Yahshua came to finish the job. To do that He taught the precepts of the Old Testament. He never said He would replace them with a different New

To Build a Family

Yahshua was sent on a mission, which was to carry out the plan and design of His Father for mankind. To complete the Covenant started in the Old Testament, Yahshua’s goal was to prepare a future family of Yahweh here on earth. From the beginning Yahweh has called out those who would take hold of that Covenant promise and conform their lives to reflect the life of His Son. He wanted a people who proved worthy to be in His family. In John 18:37 Yahshua said, “To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.” Notice that He did not say, “Every one that hears this new truth...” Paul backed this truth up in his letter

to the Romans in 8:3-4: “For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, Yahweh sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Now we come to the essence. The Truth demands our righteousness. We are to walk in the spirit and not in the sinfulness of the flesh. Embrace His Obedience with Your Own

You hear like a broken record that the righteousness of the law is fulfilled in Messiah, so there is nothing for us to do or obey in the New Testament. He did it all for us and we do nothing at all. Just have faith.    You could call this belief, “substitute righteousness.” Most believe that our Savior’s righteousness replaces our unrighteousness so that we have no need to do anything but have faith. Ostensibly, then, we can be as sin-filled in life as we please because we can plead His righteousness.    Let’s be honest. Substitute righteousness is an excuse for sin, and was not anything our Savior ever taught.    Paul contradicts the whole notion of substitute righteousness. He says that the same righteous obedience Yahshua had MUST be shown in our lives as well. He even said the righteousness of the law was to be fulfilled in US! Yahshua showed us how to do that. We are responsible for ourselves. Yahshua Himself included His followers in this mandate when He said in Matthew 3:15, “…for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness.” W h e n y o u f o l l o w Ya h s h u a ’s example of obeying His Father Yahweh, the law’s righteousness is fulfilled in you. Conforming to His ways is how righteousness happens, not running away from it and making obedience solely His responsibility. When we obey Yahweh He calls it dwelling in Him, according to 1John 3:24: “And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.” Acts 5:32 says He gives His Spirit to those who obey. And only those who have the Spirit will be resurrected to life. “And if Messiah be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Yahshua from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up

the Old Testament as well, the total is over 4,000, according to the Expositor’s Bible Commentary. That averages eight per New Testament page.

He Taught from the Old Testament

Speaking of numbers, if you read something in a book 7,000 times, would you remember it? Aside from perhaps driving you crazy, you would never forget it. Your Heavenly Father’s Name in the form of the Tetragrammaton or four letters appears in the ancient Hebrew manuscripts 6,823 times. But when the translators of the Hebrew came upon the Tetragrammaton, they inserted the vowel points of Adonai so the reader would not blurt out the Sacred Name, which they considered too holy. Coming across the four-lettered sacred Name the reader would read the vowel pointing and say the word “adonai,” which is translated lord. It was the greatest cover-up in all of human history, believe it or not, and the first monumental case of identity theft. ‘Yahweh” is the last name that should ever be tampered with because His is the only Name ever called holy in Scripture. The practice of sidestepping a name is known as kethib-qere, meaning the name is written one way but is read or pronounced another way. Some ask, where is the Name Yahweh in the New Testament? Believe it or not, the same cover-up was perpetrated by translators of the New Testament. In what was known as Nomina Sacra, or “sacred names,” the Name was replaced throughout the New Testament with the letters KS, with a line above it, signifying kurios, the Greek word for lord. The Restoration Study Bible has a lengthy note on Nomina Sacra at Matthew 1:22. This is true for most if not all of the New Testament Greek manuscripts. Believe it or not, Yahweh is not the only one with the sacred Name. Prophets and others in Scripture have the short form “Yah” in their names, like IsaYah, JeremYah, NehemYah. In the Hebrew its Yah but in English, iah. You acknowledge His Name every time you say HalleluYah, a word that means “praise Yah.” And of course, Yahshua. Why do we have Yahshua with an “a” and not an “e” (Yeshua)? Because the Father’s Name is “Yah”weh, not Yehweh, and the Son said

If you were living in Yahshua’s day and were told to run and get a Bible, what would you grab? The Gospels? The letters

When He said, ‘It is written,’ He was quoting the Old Testament. When He taught people to obey the Word, He was speaking of the Old Testament.

Messiah from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. …if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live,” Romans 8:10-13. It’s time now to look at some major misnomers along with a potpourri of important facts you probably were never told. We’ll turn our attention now to some real believe-it-or-nots. Yahshua had disciples as well as apostles. There were more than 12 apostles. Actually 14 held the apostolic office, as Judas didn’t last and he was replaced by Matthias, Acts 1:26, while Paul came later. According to Acts 1:22, to be an apostle you must have witnessed the resurrected Messiah, which Paul did. Apostle means sent, but disciple means both learner (as in the Latin) as well as follower. The disciples followed Him not only around Judea, but as students they followed His life and teachings. The disciple did what Yahshua did and taught what Yahshua taught. Yahshua set the gold standard by living a sinless life. John wrote in 1John 2:6: “He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.” And how did He accomplish a life without sin? He did it by obeying the laws of His Father, because sin is defined as lawbreaking, 1John 3:4. Disciple and discipline come from the same Latin word. Discipline means a set of rules to obey that when followed build orderliness, self-control, and character. As a disciple of Yahshua, you do not

6

of Paul? Hardly. You would bring an Old Testament scroll because that was the only Bible available at that time and for the next hundred years. Yahshua and the disciples taught and preached exclusively from the Old Testament. Why would Yahshua ever annul it when He taught from it? It was His classroom textbook. It was what His students, His disciples, studied. At what point did He say His teachings would be null and void? When He said, “It is written,” He was quoting the Old Testament. When He taught people to obey the Word, He was speaking of the Old Testament Scriptures. When He said to obey His Father Yahweh, He was talking about Old Testament statutes and judgments. Forget the myth that the Old Testament is dead. That fable itself should die. Paul validated the fact that ALL Scripture is inspired and profitable for doctrine and instruction in righteousness, 2Timothy 3:16. Also in Paul’s day the only Scripture in existence was the Old Testament. The first five books of the Bible, known as the law books, or Torah in Hebrew, are quoted some 245 times in the New Testament, and referred to much more than that. Paul, who is the one most cited as abolishing the law, quoted those law books 110 times, more than any other New Testament figure. Yahshua the Messiah quoted Old Testament laws 60 times. Believe it or not, scholars have catalogued 695 New Testament quotations pulled from the books of the Old Testament. If you include references to

His Name All Through the Scriptures

that He came in His Father’s Name, John 5:43. A prophecy said that the Father’s Name is “in Him,” Exodus 23:21. Yahshua derives from the same Hebrew as Joshua (No. 3442, Strong’s Hebrew Dictionary). The ancient scribes deliberately vowel-pointed the Name to hide it by altering its pronunciation. Strong’s Hebrew Dictionary shows how fraudulent vowel pointing changes YAH to YEH. You can see it by scanning through the names that have been changed to start with “Yeh.” (Yehudiyah, 3057). In every name that’s been changed, a shewa (:) appears under the Hebrew letter yod (y), and thereby the pronunciation in the prefix of all those names is changed to “YEH.” The proper vowel point should have been the qamatz (‘a’ as in yacht) to yield “YAH.” Yahweh in the Hebrew comes from a root that means to exist or cause to exist. When Yahweh breathed the breath of life into Adam, he caused the first man to become a living, breathing human being.

Textual evidence in the New Testament clearly shows a Hebrew original. We find predominantly in the Evangels and Revelation the waw consecutive, in which successive sentences begin with the word “and.” This is purely a Hebrew grammatical trait not found in Greek. The New Testament is also filled with purely Hebrew idioms that would not be found in a Greek original. The syntax reflects Hebrew as well. No wonder we find many problematic verses that originated in Hebrew and translated into Greek and then into English. The Old Testament is better rendered Old Covenant or first covenant. The New Testament is the New Covenant or second covenant. These two covenants encapsulate Yahweh’s plan for His people of all eras

likelihood that He will come back in either a Sabbatical or Jubilee year. These years were given to Israel in Leviticus 25 as years of release, when debts were forgiven and slaves were freed. Prophetically as well as symbolically this parallels the return of Yahshua to deliver His people from bondage of sin as they enter His Kingdom. He likely started His ministry in either a Sabbatical or a Jubilee year, Luke 4. There He tied His ministry to the Jubilee, implying He would conclude it at His return. Speaking of His return, believe it or not the common rapture belief in which a select group is whisked off to safety before the tribulation is the exact opposite of what is prophesied to happen at the Savior’s return. Those initially taken will be taken in death, Matthew 13:40-42, 4950.

and were exclusively made with Israel, and no others. The first covenant was introduced to the patriarch Abraham, and it centered on Yahweh’s promises to him and his offspring if they would obey. The New Covenant has basically the same overarching promise, except that sacrifices had changed along with the priesthood. Beyond that, the New Covenant welcomes all who are not of Israel to join in the promises if they will repent and follow the teachings of Yahshua, which were His Father’s teachings as well. Realizing that Israel is at the center of the Scriptures speaks volumes about the importance of Israel’s practice of worship as opposed to a Latin or Greekcentered worship where custom is rooted in heathenism. On the minds of millions is, when will the Savior return? We find a

Yahshua will send angels to separate out the tares first. The righteous will be protected right here on earth, just as ancient Israel was protected in Goshen and Noah found safety on the ark. (For more facts about the erroneous rapture teaching, see our booklet, Are You Counting on a Coming Rapture? It’s also on the YRM website.) Yahshua came to pave the way for anyone to take hold of the same promise given to Israel, with only some changes in the priesthood and the way worship was conducted by them. Believe it or not, acceptance of Yahshua’s sacrifice and obedience to His teachings and His example of obedience are not mutually exclusive. They harmonize beautifully. See Revelation 12:17; 14:12; 22:14. These are the dynamics of Yahweh’s Word. Once you grasp them, the Bible suddenly becomes clear, as the fog of 2,000 years lifts, and the very plan and purpose of Yahweh for this earth is revealed.

Covenants for All

Hebrew New Testament

Believe it or not, strong evidence points to a New Testament written in Hebrew and not Greek. First of all, the writers were Hebrews, the land was Hebrew, the culture was Hebrew, and the Savior was Hebrew. The Hebrews were not fond of Greeks, especially after Antiochus Epiphanes desecrated their Temple. Here is how Shimon Apisdorf describes the Greeks at the time: “The Greeks were different from other empires. They didn’t just want your land, your resources and your riches – they wanted your national essence, your culture. They wanted you to think like them, live like them and even be entertained like them. The problem was most Jews weren’t buying, and the Greeks didn’t appreciate that. So the Greeks brought pressure to bear on the Jews. Women who insisted that their sons be circumcised were killed along with their babies. …Jews were required to eat pork and sacrifice pigs to the Greek gods. The teaching of Torah became a capital crime. The sages and their students went into hiding in order to study and preserve the Torah. Secret weddings were held. Most Jews did anything and everything to remain Jewish. Many were tortured and murdered for their defiance. A period of darkness and suffering descended upon the Jews of Israel” (torah.org).

homas Edison once said, “The reason a lot of people do not recognize opportunity is because it usually goes around wearing overalls looking like hard work.” In the last few decades we’ve seen an alarming trend. We’ve developed into a culture that no longer embraces qualities like initiative, hard work, and commitment. More people than ever (50 percent) are now dependent upon government aid. While there’s a place and need for it, the fact is, the dole is being horribly abused. In 1964 almost nobody was getting food stamps. Beginning in the late 1960s the number receiving food stamps and other government welfare began to increase. Ironically, at the same time, we as a nation began losing our traditional values for a more liberal or “progressive” mindset. As time passed the growth of food stamps and other forms of welfare only increased. Since 2008 those receiving food stamps have grown from about 32 million to over 45 million recipients. While there’s a need to help the needy, it doesn’t justify the overwhelming increase. The root problem is that many today simply refuse to show initiative, hard work, and commitment.

8

Restoration Times Magazine January-February 2014

Before we look at what the Bible says about these three attributes, let’s review what the Merriam-Webster dictionary and thesaurus says about these terms. The word “initiative” is defined as, “The energy and desire that is needed to do something.” Work refers to, “Activity in which one exerts strength or faculties to do or perform something.” And commitment is defined as, “The attitude of someone who works very hard to do or support something.” Synonyms for initiative are “action, ambition, drive, and hustle.” Synonyms for work include, “exertion, labor, pain, and sweat.” And synonyms for commitment are “dedication, devotion, faith, and faithfulness.” Study Requires Initiative

n Ra

Since we now understand the definitions behind these words, let’s review what the Bible says about these important qualities. We find our first example of initiative in 2Timothy 2:15. It reads, “Study to shew thyself approved unto Elohim, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” The word “study” here is from the Greek spoudazo, meaning, “to make effort, to be prompt or earnest.” As believers, do

we make an effort to study our Father’s Word? This happens only with initiative; with a desire to understand the truth. The sad reality, though, is that most don’t share this desire and as a result they never go beyond the basics of the Bible. Their desire is suppressed by their love for the world and unwillingness to sacrifice for the truth. To understand our Father’s Word we must be willing to go below the surface. To do this we must spend time in His Word. We can’t go beyond the basics through osmosis. If we have a desire to truly understand our Father’s Word, we must then have a strong initiative to study and prove all things. Our professional life is no different. If we have a desire to succeed professionally, we must have the initiative to put forth the necessary energy to achieve the desired results. Before working for the ministry, I was a project manager with a large state agency. During this time I saw many who lacked the initiative for success and promotion. They had little to no desire to work harder, to pursue additional credentials, and as a result they were stagnant in their position. If we show no desire or initiative in our spiritual walk, we too will become stagnant.

Nothing in this life comes without sacrifice and cost; our Father’s truth is no different. Anything worth pursuing, especially our Father’s Kingdom, takes initiative and a strong desire to achieve that goal. Determined Faith

In the fifth chapter of Mark we find a woman who showed incredible initiative and faith: “And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, When she had heard of Yahshua, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. And Yahshua, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing. But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague," verses 25-34. This woman had suffered from an issue of blood for 12 years. She saw multiple physicians and did everything she could to find a cure, including spending everything she had. One day when Yahshua was coming through, she seized the opportunity. She placed herself behind Yahshua and touched His garment, trusting that if she did so she would be healed. This is a great example of initiative and faith. It was her desire and faith that healed her. When Yahshua felt power leave Him, He turned around and asked who had touched Him. The disciples were confused because Yahshua had people pressing upon Him on all sides. Even though this woman was afraid of how the Messiah would respond, she fell down before Him and was honest with what happened. How did Yahshua respond? He said, “…your faith has made you whole.” Have you ever had a desire to pursue something, but allowed fear to stop you? For example, even though you desired to

obey Yahweh and keep biblical Feasts, you allowed your employer or spouse to convince you otherwise. As believers we must have the initiative to follow our Father in heaven regardless of the challenges. As this woman leaped out in faith to seek healing from the Messiah, we too must have the same desire and resolve to leap out in faith to fully obey our Father in heaven. Lesson from the Ant

Let’s now transition to a strong work ethic. What does the Bible say about this virtue? In Proverbs 6:6-11 Solomon uses an ant to illustrate. He says, “Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest. How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.” Even though the ant is small and seems insignificant, its work ethic is amazing. Ants are constantly moving, working, and gathering to ensure that they have adequate food and other supplies. What would happen to a colony if only half the ants worked? That colony would not survive. For ants to succeed they must work hard in unity of purpose and goal. The ant shows us that to succeed in life we must be willing to work hard. This requires initiative, a sense of personal responsibility, commitment, and a strong

Consequences of Laziness

We find this lesson in many more passages. For instance, Proverbs 20:4 says, “The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.” We see here the result of laziness. In short, if we won’t work, we’ll live in poverty. We find another illustrative example in Ecclesiastes 10:18. From the NIV it reads, “If a man is lazy, the rafters sag; if his hands are idle, the house leaks.” How many men reading this have unfinished work around the house and have chosen to simply ignore it? Everyone who owns or has owned a home can relate to what Solomon says here. Instead of cleaning the gutters, we let the water run over them or instead of fixing the faucet, we place a bucket beneath the sink. The lesson here is very simple, if we let our homes go, they will deteriorate and eventually be uninhabitable. This can be applied to anything, including to our professional careers and spiritual walk. If we’re lazy when it comes to reading and studying our Father’s Word, we will then not have the knowledge to follow Him as we should. While hard work is a choice, the consequences are not. If we’re negligent through life, we will reap the consequences of that choice. Proverbs 12:24 provides one more example of laziness: “Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in slave labor,” NIV. Solomon confirms that laziness leads to bondage, especially financial bondage. It’s a fact that most successful people gained

work ethic. If we’re unwilling to work, poverty will come upon us. Yahweh wants us to be productive as a people; He wants us to be active and motivated. Motivation has much to do with a good work ethic; in many ways they go hand-inhand. I’ve known many believers who for whatever reason thought that it was okay to be lazy, to be a sluggard. Understand though that our Father Yahweh wants us to be productive; He wants us to be hard working.

their success only through hard work and sacrifice, including long days, time away from the family, and a commitment second to none. Anything worth achieving in life requires a strong work ethic, initiative, and commitment. Realizing that some people have a genuine need for help, the fact is there are many receiving welfare today who have the ability to work and simply choose not to. This is a moral problem that continues to jeopardize this country. It’s clear that our Restoration Times Magazine January-February 2014

Father Yahweh wants us to be hardworking and productive. In Ephesians 4:28 Paul addresses a problem and symptom. He says, “Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.” Paul admonishes the thief to stop stealing and work with his hands. Paul did not stop with a command against stealing. He addresses both the problem and symptom. The problem was that this man was not working. Paul realized if the man would work, he would have no need to steal. It’s amazing how many of our problems come from our refusal to follow Yahweh’s Word. If we would simply obey His commandments, we would have utopia on

quietness they work, and eat their own bread.” Scripture doesn’t support handouts to the lazy who have the ability to work. My grandfather was a young man living in New York City during the Great Depression. He once told me that while times were very hard, there was always money and food available if you were not afraid to work. He said that back then there was no such thing as a free handout; if you wanted to eat, you worked! As a nation, we no longer embrace that ethic. As believers we’re to remember that working hard is not only a foundational principle of this nation, but a requirement from our Father in heaven. He commands that we work.

her daughters-in-law to return to their own country. When she said this, the one left, but Ruth stayed. She told her mother-inlaw that she would follow her and that her people and her Elohim would be her people and her Elohim. Ruth was completely committed to her mother-in-law, Naomi. Even though in some ways it would have been easier for Ruth to return home, she refused. Ruth eventually met a good man named Boaz. He had initiative, was hard working, and he understood the value of commitment. They eventually got married and had a son named Obed, who was the father of Jesse, who was the father of David. Because of the commitment of this Moabite woman, not only was she blessed

earth. Sadly, though, this isn’t the case. Instead of following Him and being blessed, we’re rebelling against Him and being cursed. There is a consequence to everything we do in life. There is a consequence for a lack of initiative and there is a consequence for laziness. In 2Thesslonians 3:10-12 Paul provides the consequence for refusing to work. He says “For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Master Yahshua Messiah, that with

to find a good husband in a foreign land, but she also became part of the line of David and more importantly, the line of Yahshua the Messiah. Great things happen if we stay committed to a great cause and there is no greater cause than that which we find in Yahweh’s Word.

The last attribute for success is commitment. Like initiative and hard work, personal commitment is sorely lacking in this nation. In Ruth 1:16 we find an incredible example of commitment. It reads, “And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy Elohim my Elohim.” We find here a woman named Naomi who had two sons with wives from the land of Moab. In this story Naomi’s husband and two sons died, leaving all three ladies widowed. When this happened Naomi told

Abraham’s Unwavering Devotion

The next example is from a man named Abraham. In Genesis 15:6 we find the blessing that he received for his commitment: “And he believed in Yahweh; and he counted it to him for righteousness.” We find confirmation here that because of Abraham’s belief he was found to be

righteous and just. Understand that this belief was not just a simple co nfes s ion. While this man showed many characteristics of commitment, two stand out.

T h e first one is when he was told by Yahweh to leave his country, Ur of the Chaldees, and go to a land that Yahweh would show him. Understand that this wasn’t simply packing up and moving across town. He was leaving his birthplace, his family, his friends, and his culture for a land that he knew nothing about. He was forsaking everything to follow his Father in heaven. His is a great example for us. Are we willing to forsake all to follow our Father in

heaven? Are we as committed as Abraham was here? The second example is when Abraham was commanded by Yahweh to offer up his son, Isaac, as a burnt offering. Even though this had to be excruciating, we know that Abraham was willing to slaughter his own son before he was stopped by the angel of Yahweh. His Heavenly Father wanted to see how far this man’s commitment went. After this monumental act of faith, there was no questioning his commitment. This is why Abraham was so special; he was completely committed to His Heavenly Father. He was willing to forsake everything and everyone to please the One he worshiped. Do we have such devotion? If we are going to succeed with Yahweh’s truth then we must be committed, meaning that we cannot waver or compromise. A Man Who Never Gave Up

Paul in 2Timothy 4:7 says, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” Paul here is looking back at the end of his career. Throughout his ministry he endured great trial. On several occasions he was beaten, shipwrecked, and imprisoned. He describes it in 2Corinthians 11:24, “Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. Thrice was I beaten with rods, once

was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness. Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the assemblies.” Amazingly, no matter what happened to Paul he kept going. He was completely committed to the cause. He began as a persecutor of Yahshua, but finished as one of His greatest apostles and one of the greatest evangelists ever. Yahweh’s truth is not easy; life is not easy; and success does not happen without effort. If we are going to succeed we must show initiative, hard work, and commitment. While this is an important lesson for our personal and professional lives, it’s even more important for our walk as believers. If we will succeed we must possess these same qualities. Yahweh has given us all an opportunity for the grand prize of eternal life. Seize this opportunity by embracing attitudes and attributes of success. Now in

Get Back to

Original Truth

by the late Donald R. Mansager

n 1948 Israel was recognized as a state by the United Nations. Today it is the only nation in the world in which Hebrew is the national tongue, which is the original language of the Bible and the heavenly language spoken to mankind. Only in the tiny state of Israel do we find Yahweh's weekly Sabbaths as well as His Feast days nationally recognized, but not always observed. The Old Testament Torah and its precepts are acknowledged as Yahweh's law. Bible prophecy revolves around Israel and the surrounding nations of the Middle East. Armies will converge there for the final battle of the ages. Yahweh has now brought back to the land of Israel a people who acknowledge Him as their Elohim. The establishing of Israel as a nation was necessary to prepare the groundwork for the return of the Messiah. Just as a viable teaching of the Bible created an air of expectation of the Messiah at His first coming, it is fitting

12

that Yahweh will have a people prepared to receive His Son when He comes again. He will return to the land of Israel where Hebrew is spoken, Zechariah 14:4. There will be a resurgence of the teachings of the Bible before the return of the Savior. Just as John the Baptist was the EliYAH to come, there will be a revival of deeper Bible truth around the world. This was prophesied at the very end of the Old Testament: “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of Yahweh: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse” (Malachi 4:5-6). The prophet indicates that many today will not fully accept the message of John the Baptist, but a small remnant will listen to John's warning and turned to Yahweh. Malachi talks of the “great and dreadful day

of Yahweh” which has not yet occurred. We know it as the “great tribulation” mentioned by Yahshua and others in the New Testament. This difficult time when Yahweh smites the earth with a curse is still ahead of us. There will be a group of people who will seek the ancient ways and return to the truth of Scripture. The core of these truths will be radically different from the bland teachings of mainline churchianity. The true message will be more than the social gospel, or the promise of individual prosperity and blessings. It will be the teachings seen from Yahweh's point of view; how He perceives man's attitudes and activities on earth. Yahshua must remain in the heavens until this restoration message is taught and accepted by a people prepared for His return. This is clear from Peter's teaching following Pentecost, namely that the people should prepare to meet Yahshua our

coming Judge: “Repent therefore; and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of Yahweh; And he shall send Yahshua the Messiah, which before was preached unto you: Whom the heaven must receive until the times restitution of all things, which Elohim has spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began” (Acts 3:20-21). The NIV translation is clearer, showing that Yahshua must remain in heaven until the time “to restore everything.” This was a clear message to the Jews to change their attitudes and hearts concerning Yahshua the Messiah. This change of attitude is necessary to receive seasons of refreshing or renewed strength from the throne of Yahweh. Yahshua's return is dependent upon the true repentance of a people and their turning with heart and mind toward Yahweh. The recovery of lost truth must come first, even before the presence of Yahshua. The Old Testament will once again be studied with renewed interest, with new insight to learn the things Yahweh has spoken since the beginning of the world. An air of expectancy will stir up a people to a thrilling anticipation of Yahshua's return. This is the work yet to be accomplished by the coming ELIYAH (a Hebrew name meaning, “My Mighty One is Yah”). This message will be given at the end of the age according to our Savior: “And Yahshua answered and said unto them, ELIYAH truly shall first come, and restore all things” (Matt. 17: 11).

The word messenger in Malachi 3:1 evidently refers to John the Baptist who was the Eliyah of his day. In addition, prophecy also reveals that an Eliyah group of people will again be preparing the way in our day, literally and actively fulfilling these prophecies. We are striving to do the work of that messenger! Take note: “Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before Me: a Sovereign (Hebrew, Adon), whom you seek, shall suddenly come to His Temple even the Messenger of the Covenant whom you delight in: behold,

Levi, the priests, who are actively carrying out their duties. The “messenger of the Covenant” plainly refers to Yahshua Who will return to His Temple (Hebrew, heykal, lit. palace, temple). The Temple carries spiritual meaning as well. Yahshua will return to the “spiritual Temple” composed of the saints who will welcome Him: “Know you not that you are the Temple of Yahweh, and [that] the Spirit of Elohim dwells in you? If any man defile the Temple of Yahweh, him shall Elohim destroy; for the Temple of Yahweh is holy, which Temple you are (1Cor. 3:16- 17). In whom you also are builded together

Name Truths Revived

Yahshua prophesied that both His Name and Yahweh's Name would be widely proclaimed at the end of the age. Yahweh's laws, His code of ethics and way of life will again be taught to a lost and dying world before Yahshua's return. A complete restoration of Bible truth is now going forth with increasing boldness in these latter days. Many are surprised to learn that the Mighty One of Israel has a name, Yahweh, which we use exclusively. His Name was

saints this will place Him within His “spiritual Temple,” surrounded by a myriad of the redeemed. The Temple at Jerusalem will be clean and garnished for Him; also the saints will have on their garments of salvation, clean and white. “And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints” (Rev. 19:8).

name one (Zech. 14:9). “For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of Yahweh, to serve him with one consent” (Zeph. 3:9).

The Jews in general are not eager to divulge some of their deeper understanding of the Bible. Rather than face ridicule and humiliation by those with little perception of the truth of the Bible's terms and figures of speech, the Jews remain reticent and detached from deeper Bible discussion. They themselves are reluctant even to pronounce or spell out Yahweh's Name! A number of prophecies proclaim that Yahweh's Name will be known by Jew and Gentile alike at the end of the age. Jewish writings and other records acknowledge His Name as Yahweh. Bible prophecies are replete with

And it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever shall call on the name of Yahweh shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as Yahweh has said, and in the remnant whom Yahweh shall call” (Joel 2:31-32). The Psalms reveal the importance of obedience and calling on our Heavenly Father Yahweh's Name. His wrath will be upon the disobedient heathen and those who have not called upon Yahweh's name: “Pour out your wrath upon the heathen that have not known you, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon your name” (Psalm 79:6). The saints are promised that Yahweh will allow His people at the end of this age to go through a cleansing period to perfect and purify them. His people will know His Name and call out to Him. And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, Yahweh is my Elohim” (Zech.

Deliverance Using Yahweh’s Name

The Name of the Savior

Today when we invoke Yahweh's Name, the response is hardly a raised eyebrow. But not calling upon Yahweh's Name may well become the death knell in the future. The Savior's Name YAHshua incorporates the short form (YAH), and we know persecution of those holding fast to truth is coming. Believers will suffer reproach for using Yahshua's Name: “If you be reproached for the name of Messiah, happy are you; for the spirit of glory and of Yahweh rests upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of; but on your part he is glorified” (1Pet. 4:14). Yahshua Himself said that His Name would provoke hatred from the world. “And you shall be hated of all men for My name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved” (Mark 13:13).

Astonishing Bible Truths That Your Church NEVER Taught

See how paganism and man’s tradition made an indelible mark on modern-day churchianity!

“I know your works, and where you dwell, even where Satan's seat is: and you hold fast My name, and has not denied My faith...” (Revelation 2:13). Here Yahshua ties His Name and His truths together. “I know your works: behold, I have set before you an open door, and no man can shut it: for you have a little strength, and have kept my word, and have not denied my name” (Rev. 3:8). “Him that overcomes will I make a pillar in the Temple of my Elohim, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my Elohim, and the name of the city of my Elohim, which is new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from my Elohim: and I will write upon him my new name” (Rev. 3:12). Not only do we find Yahweh's and Yahshua's Names to be vitally important, but our names could also be blotted out of the Book of Life if we do not overcome daily: “He that overcomes, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels” (Rev. 3:5). Our Redeemer promises that if we

prove faithful that He would not remove our name from the Book of Life, but that He would confess our name before the Father and His angels. “Then they that feared Yahweh spake often one to another: and Yahweh hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared Yahweh, and that thought upon His Name” (Mal. 3:16). Are YOU in the Book of Acts?

The Book of Acts does not end with Amen. It likely is unfinished, awaiting the final chapter yet to be written. Could it be that you are being called now to have your name included in the concluding chapter concerning the activities of the ekklesia, the “called-out ones?” Today His people are sealed by baptism into the saving Name of Yahshua. The short or poetic form of His name “YAH” is used here, in addition to the Hebrew word “shua” meaning salvation. The name Yahshua means the “Salvation of Yah.” His Name is the seal. Revelation 7:3 reveals that at the end of the age His servants will be sealed with

His name: “…sealed the servants of our Elohim in their foreheads” (Rev. 7:3). “And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of Elohim in their foreheads” (Rev. 9:4). The sealing with His Name is accomplished by the act of baptism into Yahshua's saving Name: “And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads” (Rev. 22:4). See also Galatians 3:26-29. Determine now to seek Yahweh with all your heart and walk in the ways He has given in His Word so that you will not be taken unawares. Yahshua is coming soon to reward the faithful who have helped proclaim His Name and His truths. We are diligently seeking to restore spiritual truth and encourage all readers to make certain your name is recorded in that book of remembrance. When the 29th chapter of Acts is finally written, may it include you as one who calls upon Yahweh's Name and is found worthy to receive a crown of life. So, You Want to Be a

Minister... by Randy Folliard

any with good intentions have aspirations of serving in the ministry. While this ambition is commendable, it’s also important to fully understand the responsibility involved, the obligations ministry demands, and the character and abilities necessary before committing. That being said, we should all strive for the qualities of a minister in our own walk, realizing that those found worthy of the first resurrection will serve as a kingdom of priests in the Millennium. Therefore, practicing and living the qualifications

of a minister today will be invaluable for serving in the coming Kingdom. A Future Kingdom of Priests

Revelation 20:6 reveals that the saints will rule with the Messiah in His Kingdom. It reads, “Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of Elohim and of Messiah, and shall reign with him a thousand years.” Imagine serving under the Messiah for 1,000 years as a priest? Along with other tasks, kingdom priests will assist in the

restoration of Yahweh’s Word, including teaching those ignorant or unfamiliar with the truth (see Isaiah 30:20-22). Through Yahshua the Messiah and His saints, the earth will undergo its greatest revival. Are you ready for this position? Are you ready to become a priest of Almighty Yahweh? If you are, realize then that you must endeavor to live by His standards now to be found worthy of this future Kingdom position, and there’s no better standard to consider than that which He’s already given to His ministers today. Our Father in heaven is looking for the

cream of the crop to serve in His Kingdom. Mediocrity will not do. We must strive to be greater! Qualifications of a Minister

In 1Timothy 3:1-7 the Apostle Paul provides the qualifications for a bishop or elder: “This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the assembly of Yahweh?) Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.” In this passage we find 16 unique qualifications for ministers: • Blameless • Of one wife • Vigilant • Sober • Of good behavior • Given to hospitality • Apt to teach • Moderate with wine • No striker • Not greedy of filthy lucre • Patient • Not a brawler • Not covetous • Rules well his own house • No novice • Seen approvingly by outsiders There’s a reason for every prerequisite here. Everything we find in Yahweh’s Word has purpose, meaning, and benefit. These standards are the very model or pattern that all believers must follow, not just ministers. They provide the measure of righteousness for those who serve Yahweh now and in the future. As believers, how do we measure up? Are we in line with what Yahweh requires or are we falling short? Regardless of where we might be now, we all have the same opportunity to overcome our faults and to please the One we worship.

Beyond Reproach

Scripture begins by stating that a minister must be blameless. Paul in Philippians 2:14-15 provides some valuable insight into what blameless means. He states, “Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of Elohim, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world.” We find several indications of what it means to be blameless. But before that, notice Paul states that all things are to be done without murmurings and disputings. Life is too short and our goals are too great to spend our time complaining about issues of no value. As His saints we need to focus on the positive and not to be so quick or rash to point out the negative. To be without rebuke means to be above reproach. We should not give anyone the opportunity to criticize our behavior. In other words, we should give no reason for complaint or grievance based on our actions or decisions. Living a blameless life is simply living according to the morality and ethics of our Father’s Word and doing so without hypocrisy. One of the worst offenses a believer can be guilty of is saying one thing and doing another. The fact is, because we live for a greater purpose our lives are often under a microscope. If we give people reason, not only may they lose respect for us, but more importantly, they may also lose faith in our message. We may be the only Bible some will ever read. For this reason, we’re to strive to live a life that is blameless and beyond reproach. Be Sober and Ready

Sobriety is necessary to fend off the Adversary’s attacks. Peter speaks about this in 1Peter 5:8-9, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.” The word “sober” is from the Greek nepho and means, “to abstain from wine (keep sober), i.e. (figuratively) be discreet:– be sober, watch, to be discreet, circumspect or judicious,” Strong’s Concordance. While the primary meaning of sober refers

to abstaining from excessive wine, the secondary meaning refers to being prudent and vigilant. Satan the devil is like a lion, roaming around and always ready to attack. Without discretion it’s possible that we could be led astray by Satan the devil. Scripture describes the Evil One as an angel of light. He is our greatest adversary and threat, and will use every tactic in his arsenal to accomplish his goal. To overcome the wiles of the adversary is to be sober and judicious in our walk. We can’t be rash in judgment but always mindful of the prize that awaits us. As future priests of Yahweh we must learn to be sober, meaning circumspect, aware, and discreet. Given to Hospitality

The Bible also says that ministers are to be hospitable. Paul in Romans 12:13 states, “Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.” Paul verifies here that we are to be warm and welcoming and willing to help those in the assembly. A few years ago a local member was in desperate need of help. He was unable to work and was running low on groceries. Once this came to the attention of the ministry several calls and emails went out to the local brethren. The local members responded immediately. Several brought bags of groceries and others asked about specific needs. This brother was tearfully overwhelmed and touched by the hospitality, largess, and caring of the local brethren. As believers, and not just as ministers, we have an obligation to help those in need, especially within the body of Messiah. While this qualification is given for ministers, it’s also an essential quality for all believers. This is an attribute that our Savior exhibited throughout His ministry and one that we all must reflect in our own walk. Be Gentle to All

Gentleness is a key qualification for leadership. In 2Timothy 2:24-25 Paul states that we’re to be gentle in our responses, “And the servant of the Master must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, in meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if Elohim peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth.” Paul begins here by saying that serRestoration Times Magazine January-February 2014

vants of the Master must not be contentious. It’s important that we realize that ministers are “servants of the Master.” While the Bible states that we are to honor those who labor in the Word, this does not imply that they are to be exalted. In the end, all believers are servants. The Bible shows that the greater the position, the greater the servant. Leaders in the assembly are not to strive or fight, but to be gentle unto all men. They are to use meekness and humility when instructing those who oppose the faith. Why this tactic? As the saying goes, you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. A humble approach will often

also an obligation for all believers. It’s incumbent that we remain patient and show compassion and love to our fellow man as we live the examples set by Yahshua. Blessed Are the Humbled

Another key trait of those who serve in the ministry is humility. While this characteristic isn’t specifically found in the qualifications of 1Timothy 3, it is shown by our Savior. In Mark 10:45 Yahshua stated, “For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” The word “minster” is from the Greek diakoneo. Strong’s defines this word as, “to

One of the biggest challenges for many ministers is ensuring that their own families are in order. produce greater fruit than one which is abrasive. There’s no reason for a believer to feel the need to fight, argue, or be hostile. We don’t see Yahshua acting that way. The Virtue of Patience

One of the most difficult qualities to cultivate for believers, or anyone, is patience. Howbeit, Paul in 1Thessalonians 5:14 directs believers to be patient with everyone: “Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.” Paul focuses on four obligations of a minister as well as the believer: warn the rebellious; help and comfort those in need; support the infirm; and act with patience toward all. In the Greek, the word “patient” means longsuffering or forbearing. In his day-today duties a minister’s patience is often tried. Dealing with countless problems of others, in addition to those who contact the ministry to simply argue doctrine, can make the life of a minister both exhausting and at times disappointing. Sometimes it requires a great deal of restraint and strength to maintain patience and compassion. Ordained servants in the ministry, though, accept their obligation and honor their commitment. No matter how severe the challenges, ministers must maintain patience and show kindness. While this is a qualification of an elder, this is

be an attendant, i.e. wait upon.” Yahshua came not to be served, but to serve others. In that, He healed the sick, fed the hungry, provided His time to both the righteous and sinner, and most importantly, sacrificed His life as a ransom for our sins. He surrendered all so that we might have hope of eternal life through His sacrifice. As the Son of Yahweh, our Savior could have justifiably been served, but He instead chose the role of a servant. It’s imperative that we follow His example, including those who serve in the body of Messiah. No matter what position we hold in the assembly, we must remember that we’re all servants to one another. Serving others with humility is a key requirement for all believers. If we will allow ourselves to become prideful then we will jeopardize our hope and goal of eternal life. As wise King Solomon said

in Proverbs 11:2, “When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.” Family Needs Satisfied

One of the biggest challenges for many ministers is ensuring that our own families are in order. Paul, in 1Timothy 5:8, shows the consequences for those who neglect this responsibility: “But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” These are strong words of the Apostle Paul. He confirms that if we don’t provide for our families then we have denied the faith and are worse than an unbeliever. While this passage is focused on a family’s physical needs, it’s just as relevant to a family’s spiritual needs. In Deuteronomy 6:4 Yahweh instructs parents to speak to their children of His Word when they sit in their home, walk by the way, lie down, and rise up. Solomon in Proverbs 22:6 also states that if we raise our children in the faith, they will not depart from it when they are old. While this is a requirement for ministers in the Messiah, it’s also a requirement shared by all believers. As parents, it’s important that we train our

children without hypocrisy. Children are often more perceptive than what parents give them credit for. We can say all the right things and still lose our children if we are hypocritical in our beliefs. Not only can’t we deceive our Father in heaven, but we also can’t deceive our families. Leading by Example

The final qualification is found in 1Peter 5:1-4: “The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Messiah, and also a

partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: Feed the flock of Elohim which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; Neither as being masters over Yahweh's heritage, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.” Peter confirms here that ministers are not to lead by constraint and that ministers are not to be masters over Yahweh's heritage, but examples to the assembly. As

we learn from these two points, elders are not to dictate with a heavy hand, but are to lead by example. This also applies to all believers. We are not to lead through harsh command but by example or pattern of good works. This includes showing patience, kindness, compassion, concern, and generosity to our fellow man. By striving to live by the standards that Yahweh has given to His ministers, we ensure that we are living according to His own codes and preparing ourselves for presthood in His Kingdom!

Passover and Feast of Unleavened Bread 2014 April 13-21, Holts Summit, MO Yahweh’s Restoration Ministry invites you to this year’s Passover and Feast of Unleavened Bread in Holts Summit, Missouri, from the evening of April 13 – 21 (pending confirmation of the barley). This year promises to be a blessing for all in attendance. These two observances offer many insights and revelations from our Father’s Word. The Passover arguably is the most solemn of Yahweh’s observances. It marks the death of the firstborn of Egypt and the death of Yahweh’s Firstborn and only begotten Son, Yahshua the Messiah. As a special note, those who join us for the Passover memorial must be baptized into the Name of “Yahshua” by an ordained minister. Baptismal counseling and immersions will be available before the Passover. The Feast of Unleavened Bread is one of three annual pilgrimage Feasts and is a time of removing not only physical leavening, but also the spiritual leavening from our homes and lives. While leavening is not always viewed negatively, it typically represents what leads to sin: false doctrine (Matthew 16:6-12); corrupt politics (Mark 8:15); hypocrisy (Luke 12:1); and malice and wickedness (1Corinthians 5:8), none of which should be found in our lives. Worship and Activities To honor our Father Yahweh we will have worship services along with Bible studies on both High Days and the Sabbath during the Feast. In addition, we have several Defending the Faith workshops scheduled through the week. This activity reviews difficult passages to ensure that we as believers have a ready answer to those who might ask. We also have many enjoyable activities planned for the entire week, for both the young and young at heart, including an authentic Middle Eastern dinner, a night of praise music, and much more. Contact us for information about lodging, activities and more.

in Scripture My friends have started studying Yahweh's Restoration Ministry and I was thinking that they were really getting into the Jewish Old Testament. So my question is, are you Christian or are you studying Jewish faith? The fact that the Jews haven't received their Messiah why are you using the New Testament which is Christian. This is confusing to me. – CV, email We believe in both Old and New testaments. As Yahshua the Messiah and the Apostles, including Paul, observed the Old Testament commandments, we do the same (Matthew 5:17-20; 19:17; 22:37-40; Mark 10:19; John 14:15; Romans 3:31; 7:12; 13:8-10; 1 Corinthians 7:19; 1 John 2:3; 3:4; 5:3; Revelations 12:17; 14:12; 22:14). We also maintain that salvation or justification is found only through the Messiah's death and is a gift from Yahweh, our Heavenly Father, Romans 6:1-23. In many ways, we bridge the gap between Judaism and Christianity by returning to the original tenets of the apostolic assembly. Much of what is believed and taught in Christianity today developed long after the Messiah through the traditions of men. From all evidence, the seventh-day Sabbath, annual Feasts, and kosher food laws were all observed by those in the New Testament: Matthew 24:19; Mark 2:23; Acts 15:21; 16:13; 17:2; 18:4; Hebrews 4:9; Mark 14:1; Acts 12:3; Acts 20:6; 1Corinthians 5:8; Acts 2:1; 20:16; 1Corinthians 16:7; John 7:2, 10; Acts 10:14. It's important to note that Acts 10 took place 10 years after Yahshua's ascension to heaven. If the kosher food laws were indeed obliterated through the

Messiah’s death, why do we find Peter still law-observant regarding this commandment 10 years after His resurrection? I was raised in a nominal congregation since I was a small child, and when I was 17 I felt led to accept the Savior’s gift of salvation. At that time I had no idea of the Sacred Names or of a lot of truths that I have discovered since then. I was baptised in the name of “the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.” What position would that leave me at now? I know there is a time when He winked at my ignorance. Should I recommit and be re-baptised into Yahshua’s Name? -WK, email Scripture states that there is only one proper baptism (Ephesians 4:5) and one true Name given under heaven whereby we find salvation (Acts 4:12). We believe then that baptism into Yahshua's Name is required to be found acceptable in Yahweh’s eyes. While your prior baptism was not without meaning, it was not into the proper and true Name of Yahshua. We equate prior immersions like yours with the baptism of John, which was a baptism of repentance (Acts 19:34). Scriptural baptism mandates a genuine repentance followed by a committed walk in the light of Truth for the rest of your life, Acts 2:38. Repentance means you turn totally away from a life of error and sin. You have learned many truths. Now it is time to repent from past error and begin to walk in that truth beginning with proper, scriptural baptism. Every New Testament immersion was done only into the Name of Yahshua the Messiah.

We have been taught that the unleavened bread on Passover specifically represents Yahshua's sacrificed body, but the word “bread” in Matt 26:26, Mark 14:22, Luke 22:19, 1Cor. 10:16 and 1Cor. 11:23 is Strong's number 740 (artos) which is leavened. The root word is airo (No.142). Strong's No. 106 (azumos) is used for unleavened bread in scriptures. How can this be explained? I want to have a correct understanding of when the lambs were killed. I know about the debate for the word “even” (6153) and “evening” as the RSB note for Ex. 12:6 indicates. Also, there is debate over the word “until” (5704). The RSB note on Ex 12:6 states “Based on scriptural evidence and modern scholarship, the latter interpretation is favored. This was also the same time as the evening sacrifice.” John 18:28 states, “Then led they Yahshua from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment and it was early and they themselves went not into the judgment hall lest they should be defiled, but that they might eat the Passover.” This scripture indicates the Passover meal had not yet been eaten at the time of Yahshua's judgment. This would mean that the lambs were sacrificed in the afternoon of the 14th which would be the same time as Yahshua’s sacrifice. How else can John 18:28 be explained? Regarding the word artos, Strong’s defines this word as, “bread (as raised) or a loaf.” While Strong’s limits artos to bread, primarily “raised,” other word studies expand on this definition. For example, Thayer’s Greek Lexicon states: “(1) food composed

of flour mixed with water and baked; (2) food of any kind.” Notice that Thayer’s does not specifically mention leavening in connection with artos. Vine's Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words corroborates, “Bread (perhaps derived from aro, ‘to fit together,’ or from a root ar--, ‘the earth’), signifies (a) ‘a small loaf or cake,’ composed of flour and water, and baked, in shape either oblong or round, and about as thick as the thumb; these were not cut, but broken and were consecrated to the Lord every Sabbath and called the ‘shewbread’ (loaves of presentation), Matt. 12:4; when the ‘shewbread’ was reinstituted by Nehemiah, Neh 10:32 a poll-tax of 1/3 shekel was laid on the Jews, Matt. 17:24; (b) ‘the loaf at the Lord's Supper,’ e. g., Matt 26:26 (‘Jesus took a loaf,’ RV, marg.); the breaking of ‘bread’ became the name for this institution, Acts 2:42; 20:7; 1Cor. 10:16; 11:23; (c) ‘bread of any kind,’ Matt 16:11; (d) metaphorically, ‘of Christ as the Bread of God, and of Life,’ John 6:33,35; (e) ‘food in general,’ the necessities for the sustenance of life, Matt 6:11; 2 Cor 9:10, etc.” Both Thayer’s and Vine’s defines artos as bread, which can be leavened or unleavened. This word can also refer to food in general. For this reason, we cannot draw a definitive belief from artos alone, but must go back to the original command. Yahweh in Exodus 12:8 clearly states that only unleavened bread was to be used with the Passover meal. The word “unleavened” is from the Hebrew matstsah and means, “…sweet (i.e. not soured or bittered with yeast); specifically, an unfermented cake or loaf, or (elliptically) the festival of Passover (because no leaven was then used).” Unlike artos, which is broad in meaning, matstsah is not. It specifically refers to unleavened bread. Regarding the timing of Passover, as we state in the RSB, “The timing of the word ‘evening’ has been a matter of debate for millennia. It is derived from the Hebrew phrase ben ha arbayim, which literally means, ‘between the two evenings.’ While rabbinical Judaism and Pharisaic and Talmudic tradition define ben ha arbayim as ‘between noon and sunset,’ it became a period of time that expanded over the centuries. The Sadducees, Karaites, and the Samaritans define this phrase as between sunset and complete darkness. See Numbers 9:3-5, 11 and Leviticus 23:5.

Based on scriptural evidence and modern scholarship, the latter interpretation is favored. According to The Interpreter's Bible, the latter definition is the older of the two views: ‘The usage of the time referring to that after sunset and before darkness is the older practice’ (p. 919)...” (note on Exodus 12:6). It’s important to understand that the Passover is distinct from the Feast of Unleavened Bread. In several places we find Yahweh stating the Passover is on 14th of Abib and the Feast is on the 15th of Abib, e.g., Lev. 23:5; Num. 9:3, 5, 11; 28:16, 17; 2Chron. 30:15, 21; 35:17; Ezra 6:19; Josh. 5:10; 2Chron. 35:1. Also, according to Numbers 9:3, all the “ceremonies” of the Passover must be observed as Yahweh appointed them, i.e., Abib 14. The problem with interpreting ben ha arbayim on the afternoon of the 14th is that this places the death angel’s visit at midnight on the 15th and extends the Passover through the 15th of Abib. The meaning of “until” must be determined by the context. It can be used to mark the start or to advance through the day. This word comes from the Hebrew ad. Strong’s defines this word as, “properly, the same as OT:5703 (used as a preposition, adverb or conjunction; especially with a preposition); as far (or long, or much) as, whether of space (even unto) or time (during, while, until) or degree (equally with).” OT 5703 and 5704 is from 5710, adah, which is a primitive root. It means, “…to advance, i.e. pass on or continue….” It’s not uncommon for the Hebrew to use a primitive root meaning in place of its primary. For example, in Exodus 12:15 we’re commanded to eat unleavened bread “from the first day until the seventh day.” Even though the word is ad, it uses the definition from its primitive root, i.e., to advance through. Regarding John 18:28, it’s crucial to understand that the Jews observed two Passovers. The Sadducees observed the Passover at the beginning of the 14th, while the Pharisees observed it on the 15th. This passage is referring to the Passover kept by the Pharisees (a day later from when Yahshua observed the Passover with His disciples). There is historical evidence showing that the Jews combined the Passover with the Feast of Unleavened Bread shortly after the Babylonian exile. For example, the Encyclopaedia Judaica

says, "The feast of Passover consists of two parts: the Passover ceremony, and the feast of Unleavened Bread. Originally, both parts existed separately; but at the beginning of the exile they were combined" (vol. 13, p. 169). Remember that on the night previous (beginning of Abib 14), Yahshua told His disciples to find a place where He would eat the Passover. Matthew 26:17-21 states, “Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Yahshua, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover? And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples. And the disciples did as Yahshua had appointed them; and they made ready the passover. Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve. And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.” See also Luke 22:8. Yahshua not only observed the Passover, but also ate the Passover with His disciples. He could not both observe the Passover on the appointed time and die for the sins of mankind. He did the only thing He could do, He kept the Passover as Yahweh established in the OT and died the next day. According to Numbers 9:13, If He would have missed the Passover, He would have been cut off and guilty of sin and could not have qualified as our Savior. For additional information, please see our booklets: The Timing of Passover and The Biblical Calendar, also available online. I’ve heard you mention a second tithe. How does it differ from the first tithe? The first tithe is holy to Yahweh and goes directly to His Work, Leviticus 27:3033. The second tithe is to ensure that the worshiper has adequate funds to attend His Feasts. “Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year. And thou shalt eat before Yahweh thy Elohim, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear Yahweh thy Elohim always,” Deuteronomy 14:22-23. Your literature and now hopefully your DVDs have been and will continue to be shared by me with both my family and colleagues. Your literature and ministry have been a comfort to me as I have been in a battle with depression most of my life and most recently after losing my home to Hurricane Ike. As I look back over the course of my life, Yahweh is who brought me through the roughest times in my life, i.e. prison, drug addiction, single fatherhood, the loss of my first wife to murder, and building and losing a very profitable business. In the words of (one evangelist), “Fight your battles on your knees and leave the consequences to Him.” I do appreciate your message and will support this ministry.” T.L. – Internet Truth Be Told “I have found one (other) ministry that reveals the truth about issues such as the name of Yahweh, the Sabbath and the Feasts. However I could not trace everything they said in the Bible. On the other hand Yahweh’s Restoration Ministry explains each subject with enough detail that enables the reader to track it through the Bible, be it the King James, New King James, or NIV. I am grateful for all of your material and find it enlightening. I feel I have been lied to for years and now the truth is being told. Keep up the great work.” – C.M., VA Insights on Death Row “My son, who is currently on death row, received one of your Restoration Study Bibles from a couple in our congregation and is absolutely overjoyed with it. Something Happened to Us “My husband found your TV show one early morning this summer, he told me about it and then I woke up early one morning and started watching it. I knew that I wanted to learn more of what you were speaking about. After that I signed up for the DVD program,I think in July sometime. We had accumulated about 4-5 DVD mailers, and still had not watched any of them all summer, they just sat here, and then one day in late September I got them out and we watched all of them from early in the morning until bedtime. All I can say is, our minds have not shut off. I cannot stop thinking about the truths that you are teaching. We had gone back and forth about the Saturday Sabbath for about 10 years now, never really honoring it correctly, thinking we could just overlook it, but something would always nag at us about not obeying it. Then in 2008 we started to question using the words G-d,and L-rd. One of the things that we always said was how does anyone know for sure who they are talking to by using that terminology. In my mind the Third Commandment meant do not use swear words with G-d’s name in it. I did not know the correct meaning of taking His name in vain. All I know is that something has happened to us since viewing your DVDs and reading all of the literature that you have so kindly provided us with. I order a couple of booklets almost every week. I am a reader so it has been a blessing to have these come to us.” – R and E Smith Can’t Get Enough with Roku “I recently moved and decided to drop cable and get Roku.
