The Feasts

Fundamental to Salvation by Alan Mansager

T

he basketball team was floundering. Two wins and 10 losses was not a good way to end the season. What to do? Hire a new coach and hope that different leadership would make a difference next year. It worked. Team spirit ran high as the once-losing squad coasted to a 11-1 record and earned a play-off berth. How did the new coach do it? What was his secret, being that he worked with virtually the same team that lost so many games the year before? “We went back to basics,” he said, matter-of-factly. “We drilled and drilled and drilled the basics of offense and defense. Nothing fancy, but these players now know the fundamentals inside and out, and that made all the difference between winning and losing.” Knowing and practicing the fundamentals is essential to the success of all endeavors. Nowhere is that more clear and important than in worship of Almighty Yahweh. As with a losing basketball team that has gotten sloppy in executing plays, the world of supposed Bible-based religion today has long lost the fundamental precepts

of Scripture as taught by Yahshua and the apostles. Centuries of synthesizing original truths with a mishmash of error has left the modern worshiper ignorant of the pure teachings that that Yahweh gave anciently, and to the New Covenant believer today. Because the vast majority has lost the essentials of proper devotion, their worship is derailed, resembling little the ways of Almighty Yahweh. Singular among differences, and the most obvious, are the days that modern worshipers call holy today as opposed to Yahweh-mandated observances. Who today hasn’t thought twice about the perverse impropriety of someone in a rabbit suit handing out candy eggs to children on a day observed as the resurrection of the Messiah? Or what of a rotund man in red parka and pants and shiny black boots entertaining children on his knee, promising good things if they are good—all on a day honored as the birthday of a Savior who promises the same thing? This penchant for transforming religious observances into a tangle of clashing

practices proves just how far man will go in designing his own worship and calling it worshiping Yahweh. Aaron Shares the Blame

Although Satan the devil was the first to introduce to Eve an alternate, false way instead of worshiping Yahweh, many through the millennia have continued the practice. One of the earliest was Aaron, the brother of Moses. While Moses was on Mount Sinai getting instructions on the proper worship of Yahweh, Aaron and the Israelites were below devising their own apostasy. Notice that after fashioning a golden calf idol they had worshiped in Egypt, the people said of it, “These be your elohim, O Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt,” Exodus 32:4. In like manner, Aaron built an altar near it and proclaimed, “Tomorrow is a feast to Yahweh.” Notice: Aaron did not say that a feast would be dedicated to the idol, but declared that the idol would be their mascot in a perverse, man-made feast to Yahweh! Ironically, Yahweh had wanted Israel Restoration Times Magazine July-August 2019

to return to worshiping only Himself. To accomplish that He had to take Israel physically out of the paganistic religion of Egypt. They first had to rid themselves of heathen influence. Sadly, they just brought it with them in the same way many carry the baggage of error with them. And what was the primary means by which they were to return to Him? Moses had said it, quoting Yahweh’s words in his meeting with Pharaoh: “Let My people go, that they may hold a feast unto Me in the wilderness,’’ Exodus 5:1. The seven annual Feasts were the catalyst and means by which His people were to return to pure worship. No more worshiping the days of Horus, Osiris, Isis, or other Egyptian deities. Besides prohibiting idolatry, they were also not to mix any heathen customs with worship of Yahweh. Yahweh’s Feast days are fundamental to understanding Him and His plan for the redemption of man. Each one is significant historically and prophetically. And all are commanded for us, His True Worshipers today. “But that’s Old Testament,” some may be saying. “The old Jewish Feasts aren’t for today’s New Testament worshiper.” If that is true, why didn’t Paul tell us so in 1Corinthians 10? Instead, he taught an undeniable sameness between Yahweh’s relationship with Israel and His dealings with us today. “Moreover, brethren, I would not that you should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat of the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink; for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed: and that Rock was the Messiah,” verses 1-4. The One who interacted with Israel is the same One who came to earth as the Messiah. He would treat us the same way He treated Israel. And expect the same response from both. Paul says further, “Now all these things happened unto them [Israel] for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come,” verse 11. An example is something to be imitated. Yahweh gave Israel laws and Feasts as examples for us as well. When they disregarded His will for them they faced consequences — the same consequences that apply today. The only difference is that Times Magazine 4 Restoration July-August 2019

Centuries of synthesizing original truths with a mishmash of error has left the modern worshiper ignorant of the pure teachings that Yahweh gave to the New Covenant believer today.

Israel’s sins required animal sacrifices to cover them, while our sins are atoned for by the death penalty payment of Yahshua the Messiah. Paul wrote that all Israel shall be saved, Romans 11:26. Who did he mean? Paul answers that very question in 9:4: “Who are Israelites; to whom pertains the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of Elohim, and the promises.” Yahweh made a covenant with Israel. Obey Me and I will bless you. The same agreement applies today to anyone willing to obey through His laws, Sabbaths and Feasts, Hebrews 8:10. All those obedient are Israelites. Nothing is more certain than the fact that Yahweh is immutable. He doesn’t change, Malachi 3:6. A dangerous misconception is that just because these Feasts were first given to Israel, that they must be “Jewish.” And if Jewish, they aren’t meant for anyone else. Yahweh says, “Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, ‘Concerning the feasts of Yahweh, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are My feasts,” Leviticus 23:2.

In the first six verses of this chapter He says the Feasts belong to Him, not to Jews and not to Israel. The seven observances are given for His people to observe as a demonstration that they love Him and wish to serve only Him, not the Baals of the world through the heathenish holidays honoring them. Enter Man’s Observances

Are there any of the seven annual biblical festivals that churches today still acknowledge, if not observe? The only one that comes to mind is Pentecost, which some have incorporated into their organizational name, while others give lip service to it but don’t keep as a High Sabbath. Yet the New Testament Assembly observed all seven of the annual Feasts and days. As one source maintains, “The festivals observed by the apostolic church were at first the same with those of the Jews,” The Life and Epistles of Paul, Conybeare and Howson, p. 346. If most churches still acknowledge one of Yahweh’s Feasts — Pentecost — as important in the New Testament era (marking the start of the New Testament Assembly), what about the six other observances of Yahweh? Why are they dismissed as “Jewish”? The changes that came after 70 C.E. among those who were to be known as Christians resulted from basically two factors: a political and social unwillingness to be associated with the Jews because of anti-Jewish bias, and a desire to incorporate the religious practices of heathenism. To help distance themselves from Judaism, they adopted the heathen’s own Sun-day to replace Sabbath observance, and dropped the holy days for churchsanctioned festivals and observances. Many of these replacement observances mixed in unscriptural practices from fertility cults and mystery religions, which survive intact to this day. As time went on, the division became even more pronounced. “The fact that after the year 135 Gentile bishops replaced the bishops of the circumcision, indicates that a distinction took place at that time between

Gentile-Christians and Judeo-Christians. “We would assume that this distinction was not limited only to the racial factor— not always perceptible — or solely to the circumcision, but that it was characterized even by a new theological orientation, especially toward the law and in particular toward the Sabbath,” Anti-Judaism and the Origin of Sunday, Samuele Bacchiocchi, p. 43. To argue that the festivals of Yahweh found in Leviticus 23 were abolished is to ignore the clear fact that the early Apostolic Assembly did observe these days and only because of a creeping anti-Semitism were they later replaced with heathen ones. Even the most holy day in Christianity, Easter, stems from the Passover that Yahweh gave as an observance for man. Acts 12:4 is the only place in all of the King James where the word Easter is found, and it replaces the Greek pascha, which comes from the Hebrew word for Passover, Pesach. Easter is a name from the heathen goddess Eastre or Venus, the goddess of love. It was introduced into the English text by translators. The Meaning of the Feasts

Yahweh’s Feasts are listed in Exodus 12, Leviticus 23, and Deuteronomy 16. The first to come is Passover, meaning to hop or skip over (pass over in Hebrew). Technically not a Feast, this day commemorates the saving of Israel from the death angel who passed over their bloodsmeared door frames in the Old Testament. Passover represents the salvation we can enjoy through the blood of the Messiah shed on Passover day. Immediately following is the seven-day Feast of Unleavened Bread. After the death angel spared the firstborn of ancient Israel at the Passover, they were released by Pharaoh (a type of Satan) and left Egypt on the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Eating unleavened bread for seven days depicts the removal of error and false teachings from our lives as we leave the world of sin (Egypt). Seven weeks later is the Feast of Weeks, commonly called Pentecost. Pentecost means fiftieth, because it falls on the fiftieth day following the wavesheaf offering during the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Yahweh entered into a covenant with Israel at Mount Sinai as He gave them His laws beginning at the Feast of Weeks. Similarly, the New Covenant was entered

into upon the ascension of Yahshua and the giving of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Fall Feasts Unfulfilled

For the True Worshiper these appointed times portray a progression in the spiritual life. Once the seeker of truth gives up his past life through Yahshua’s shed blood (Passover), he puts out all error in his thinking (unleavened bread). He accepts the Holy Spirit to help him be obedient to Yahweh and His laws, serving Him in truth (Pentecost). As we enter the later festivals our focus widens to encompass Yahweh’s plan for His people collectively as well as individually. The harvest festivals picture the great latterday harvest of Yahweh’s people, just as the spring Feasts deal with the firstfruits harvest. Because none of the last four feasts have been fulfilled as yet, they are especially prophetic. As we observe them we get a clearer picture of how Yahweh will fulfill His plan for the redemption of the rest of Israel. The Feast of Trumpets heralds the presence of Yahweh as He intervenes forcibly in the lives of stubborn and rebellious mankind. When the angels pour out their seven vials of plagues in the near future, each pouring is preceded by the sound of a trumpet (Rev. 8, 9). And at the final trumpet blast the dead in Messiah and living saints will be miraculously changed into spirit beings (1Cor. 15:50-52). The next holy day is the Day of Atonement. This “Feast” is actually observed with a fast, the only time the High Priest of Israel could enter the Most Holy Place in the Tabernacle. It is a very solemn time. Aaron the high priest represents Yahshua as High Priest who makes atonement for us before Yahweh. Atonement is from the Hebrew kaphar, a primitive root meaning to expiate, cancel. Once His people’s sins are atoned for through His blood, and Satan is bound, the general harvest can begin, pictured by the Feast of Tabernacles. Most notable regarding the Feast of Tabernacles is Yahweh’s command to come out to the place prepared and dwell in temporary shelter for seven days. Israel sojourned in the wilderness for 40 years, dwelling in huts before their descendants could enter the Promised Land. These seven days picture the transitory nature of our sojourn as we live only temporarily on earth. The earth’s governments and societies are not ours. We are but pilgrims in a strange land.

Feast Observance in the

New Testament Passover: Matthew 26:17-29; Mark14:12-25; 1Corinthians 5:7 Feast of Unleavened Bread: Acts 20:6; 1Corinthians 5:8 Feast of Weeks (Pentecost): Acts 2:1; 20:16; 1Corinthians 16:8 Day of Atonement: Acts 27:9 Feast of Tabernacles: John 7:2-37 from the Restoration Study Bible p. 1759

At the same time, the Feast of Tabernacles depicts the saints in the millennial Kingdom, worshiping and serving only Almighty Yahweh for a thousand years. All former things will be done away — including man’s false ways of worship. Tabernacles or the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the season is a highlight of Yahweh’s Feasts. It is marked by joy and anticipation of the coming millennial Kingdom and the elimination of all pain, suffering, and evil on earth. The last of Yahweh’s set-apart times immediately follows the Feast of Tabernacles. Known as the Last Great Day, it foreshadows the second resurrection and White Throne judgment after the Millennium. “And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison... And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before Yahweh; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works,” Revelation 20:7, 11-12. Being that the righteous were already resurrected in the first resurrection, this second resurrection is a chance for all those who never heard the truth to come to the Savior in repentance. Yahweh wished a closeness with his children just as parents desire to have their children close by. to the Tabernacle in the wilderness, Yahweh wished a closeness with His children, just as parents desire to have their children close by. Yet man didn’t want to obey and Yahweh’s close contact ended. That, too, will end, however, in Yahweh’s Kingdom. A beautiful passage follows the White Throne judgment in Revelation 21. “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. “And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from Yahweh out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. “And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, ‘Behold, the tabernacle of Elohim is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and Elohim Himself shall be with them, and be their Elohim. “And Elohim shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away,’” verses 1-4. Here our Creator once again restores the arrangement Adam enjoyed in Eden. Yahweh would once again “tabernacle” with man. And we would know the beautiful, close harmony with Yahweh that was first intended; the way to which is revealed in the wonderful lessons of the Feast Days.

Isn’t It About Time to

Make Your Commitment? You have heard and read about Yahweh’s Feasts and you

realize that He commands them to be observed by all His people. But when the time comes to answer His call for obedience, there always seems to be some circumstance that gets in the way, whether from family, employer, school, health issues or finances. The Adversary knows every angle. He’ll keep you making excuses because the last thing he wants is for you to obey your Heavenly Father. Isn’t it time you stopped listening to him and began heeding Yahweh’s call? Isn’t it time to step out in faith and receive the blessings of obedience and lay claim to the promises that Yahweh has in store for those who obey Him? The Feast of Tabernacles will be observed September 14-21 this year. Our desire is for all who are of sincere heart to join us at the Holts Summit facility. S When We Compromise the Word by Randy Folliard

There’s not any one reason that we compromise, but the motivation normally boils down to convenience, personal gain, or fear of loss.

trange fire, offerings performed wrongly, and altered worship are all instances of compromise in Scripture. Yahweh, our Father in heaven, abhored compromise anciently and many lost their lives for it. He also hates compromise when we deviate from His Word. Compromise in many ways is no different from sin. According to 1John 3:4, sin is the transgression or breaking of Yahweh’s Law. Compromise is doing something differently from what Yahweh says in His Word. For those who don’t know any better, Yahweh winks at their ignorance (Acts 17:30). But for those who do know, Yahweh will hold them accountable for their neglect. On some level, everyone is guilty of compromise. For some, it may be something very small, while for others it is something more serious. As human beings we sometimes find ourselves justifying what we know to be wrong or making concessions that we know are not right. So why do we compromise? Although there’s not any one reason, the motivation normally boils down to convenience, personal gain, or fear of loss. To demonstrate we’ll review several examples from Scripture showing how Yahweh views compromise. Realize that Yahweh doesn’t change, Malachi 3:6. Forbidden Fruit

There’s no better place to begin than with the sin of Adam and Eve. “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which Yahweh Elohim had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath Elohim said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, Elohim hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For Elohim doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as mighty ones, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons,” Genesis 3:1-7. Let’s look more closely at the discussion here between Eve and the serpent, symbolizing Satan the devil. Eve told the serpent that she and Adam could eat from all the trees in the garden, except for the tree of knowledge, which would bring death. The serpent replied that not only would they not die, but they would also know the difference between good and evil. Obviously, the first statement was a lie. The process of death began when they ate of the forbidden fruit. But what about Satan’s statement of their knowing good and evil? As we see, when they partook of the fruit, they knew the difference between good and evil. I’ve heard comparisons of Satan’s deceptions to rat poison, which is 99 percent food and one percent poison. It’s not the 99 percent of truth that harms us, it’s the one percent lie. This is why specifics matter; even though the thing may seem small, the impact is not! The sin was simply eating a piece of fruit, but the impact of eating that fruit was enormous. They had defied and turned their backs on Yahweh. We can use the “forbidden fruit” as an analogy for other compromises. We might believe working one Sabbath in a year is not a big deal. But for Yahweh, this is a big deal! As often happens these so-called small compromises give way to far more

serious issues. Today many think nothing of living together out of wedlock or divorcing their spouse. There’s a reason Yahweh condemns fornication and why He says in Malachi that He hates divorce. Marriage is the building block of society. When that foundation is broken or replaced, as in this nation, it leads to many problems, including broken homes, poverty, and other major issues. Recently Google verified that 15 million children, about 21 percent of that demographic, are living below the poverty line. This alarming trend is largely the result of sin. Getting back to the passage in Genesis, Adam and Eve could have chosen to leave the tree of knowledge alone, but they could not resist. The impact of this compromise was two-fold: their eyes were open to sin, and the process of death had begun. We also know that they were cursed and removed from the Garden of Eden. Adam was cursed with thorns and thistles, his work in the field had become much harder, and Eve was cursed with the pain of childbirth. What’s sad is that we continue to experience these curses even today. The nature and impact of sin is often prolonged. So many people believe that when they sin, they’re impacting only themselves. However, seldom is this ever the case. As we know from the Word, sin has a way of permeating beyond the initial sin. Oftentimes a person’s sin impacts others, even when not intentional. For example, divorce and single-parent homes

I

f you were to invent the easiest and most popular religion in the world, you would probably do the following: You would tell your followers that their only obligation is to believe. You would teach them that there is no need to conform to any commands, because that would be bondage. And that they will escape prophesied tribulation. Read: Is There a Coming Rapture? can often create multi-generational problems for their children and even grandchildren. Strange Fire, Zero Respect

Another incident of compromise is seen in the account of Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron. “And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before Yahweh, which he commanded them not. And there went out fire from Yahweh, and devoured them, and they died before Yahweh. Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that Yahweh spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace… And Yahweh spake unto Aaron, saying, Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations: And that ye may put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean,” Leviticus 10:1-3, 8-10. Keep in mind that Yahweh had already spoken against strange fire in Exodus 30:9, where He commanded against offering “strange incense.” Why then, we might wonder, did Nadab and Abihu risk offering strange fire? First, based on the mention of strong drink, they may have been under the influence. But second, and most importantly, they had no respect for Yahweh’s Word. We see here what happens when we dishonor Yahweh’s word through compromise: Yahweh “devoured” them with fire. The word “devour” comes from the Hebrew akal, a primitive root that can mean to “burn up or to consume.” Think about Nadab and Abihu’s transgression. They simply offered fire that was ceremonially not allowed. This was not murder or adultery and yet they still lost their lives. Why? Three reasons stand out: 1) Their transgression was connected to worship; 2) They were ministers and received the greater condemnation; and, 3) Yahweh’s Word matters, even with those things we may consider trivial. This is why we at YRM try to uphold right worship without deviating from the Word; injunctions to maintain the holiness and sanctity of the Sabbath are important to Yahweh and therefore to us.

An Offering that Destroyed a Kingship

King Saul’s tragic decision in 1Samuel 13:8-14 is another compromise incident. “And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him. And Saul said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering. And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him. And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash; Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto Yahweh: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering. And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of Yahweh thy Elohim, which he commanded thee: for now would Yahweh have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever. But now thy kingdom shall not continue: Yahweh hath sought him a man after his own heart, and Yahweh hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which Yahweh commanded thee.” What did Saul do that was so wrong? Instead of waiting for Samuel to arrive to offer the burnt offering, he took it upon himself to do it. Only those men ordained to Yahweh’s service were allowed to perform these sacrifices and Saul was not one of them. Before we condemn Saul, let’s consider his situation: he was at war with the Philistines; he had already waited for seven days for Samuel to arrive; and his army was becoming restless and ready to break ranks. He explains all this to Samuel and says that he forced himself to offer the burnt offering. Obviously, Saul knew what he did was wrong, but felt the circumstances justified the action. As a penalty for his compromise the kingdom was torn from Saul and would be given to another man, David. Besides defiling the burnt offering, Saul was also guilty of allowing fear and a lack of faith to motivate him to willfully break Yahweh’s commandment. The sad reality is that many of us have

Life is not always easy and sometimes the hardest thing we can do is to stand on principle probably done far worse under a lot less stress than Saul had in this situation. This is why it’s important that we stand in faith, even in times of trouble and tribulation. In fact, our faith is most important in times of hardship. Life is not always easy and sometimes the hardest thing we can do is to stand on principle when facing opposition. Fear Leads to Altered Worship

Another king of Israel who failed miserably was Jeroboam. “Then Jeroboam built Shechem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt therein; and went out from thence, and built Penuel. And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now shall the kingdom return to the house of David: If this people go up to do sacrifice in the house of Yahweh at Jerusalem, then shall the heart of this people turn again unto their sovereign, even unto Rehoboam king of Judah, and they shall kill me, and go again to Rehoboam king of Judah,” 1Kings 12:25-27. The motivation for Jeroboam’s compromise appears similar to Saul’s: he was afraid of losing the people, losing his position, and in the end losing his life. Prior to this point, King Solomon allowed his many wives to turn away his heart from Yahweh, 1Kings 11. Because of that Yahweh tore the Kingdom apart after Solomon’s death, giving Judah and

Benjamin to Rehoboam, Solomon’s son, and the ten northern tribes to Jeroboam. Through Solomon, we see how one man’s sin destroyed a nation. Jeroboam realized that if the people went back to Jerusalem to worship Yahweh they might go back to Rehoboam. Thus he devised a plan to try to prevent this from happening: “Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy mighty ones, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. And he set the one in Bethel, and the other put he in Dan. And this thing became a sin: for the people went to worship before the one, even unto Dan. And he made an house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sons of Levi. And Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he offered upon the altar. So did he in Bethel, sacrificing unto the calves that he had made: and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made. So he offered upon the altar which he had made in Bethel the fifteenth day of the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and ordained a feast unto the children of Israel: and he offered upon the altar, and burnt incense,” 1 Kings 12:28-33. Jeroboam did the unthinkable; he made two golden calves and placed one in Bethel and the other in Dan. He also changed the timing of worship by moving the Feast of Tabernacles from the seventh month to the eighth. To prevent the people from going back to Rehoboam, Jeroboam altered Yahweh’s worship. Sadly, the same still happens. For 2,000 years the Church has compromised worship for growth and numbers. It’s hard for many to eradicate self-worship and to simply follow Yahweh as He commands in His Word. All of us are susceptible to this compromise. Just because we call on Yahweh’s name and observe the Sabbath doesn’t mean we’re not capable of compromise. Changing Yahweh’s Word for convenience or personal gain is as applicable to us as it was to ancient Israel. Jeroboam also made priests of the lowest of the people. The Word commands that ministers meet a higher standard. Apostle Paul says that a bishop or elder Restoration Times Magazine July-August 2019

It’s not the 99 percent of truth that harms us, it’s the one percent lie. must be blameless, 1Timothy 3 and Titus 1. Those who minister before Yahweh and the assembly should be the cream of the crop. Compromise in leadership is to compromise the Body, as Jeroboam did. This compromise will negatively impact the entire body of believers. As goes the leader, so goes the assembly. For this reason we must ensure that our worship and those who minister before us meet the standards of our Father’s Word. Fatal Catch

Second Samuel 6:3-8 is another case of punishment for not following the Word, albeit the infraction in this case was not willful defiance. “And they set the ark of Elohim upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drave the new cart. And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab which was at Gibeah, accompanying the ark of Elohim: and Ahio went before the ark. And David and all the house of Israel played before Yahweh on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals. And when they came to Nachon’s threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of Elohim, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it. And the anger of Yahweh was kindled against Uzzah; and Elohim smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of Elohim. And David was displeased, because Yahweh had made a

breach upon Uzzah: and he called the name of the place Perezuzzah to this day.” Uzzah’s intentions were not malicious or defiant. The Ark of the Covenant was in danger of falling, and Uzzah was trying to stabilize it. He was simply trying to help. Yet, Yahweh killed Uzzah for touching the Ark. Why? Yahweh had commanded that the Ark be transported in a certain way. The commentary on 2Samuel 6:7 in the Restoration Study Bible reads, “The ark was not to be touched but only carried by staves, Exodus 25:15. David allowed it to be carted, which violated Yahweh’s command in Numbers 4:15 and 1Chronicles 15:15.” Even though David had a heart after Yahweh’s own, he made a fatal mistake. Instead of moving the Ark on poles as Yahweh commanded, he moved it on a cart as the Philistines had done. Like David, the vast majority of believers would probably see nothing wrong with that, but Yahweh did. From this and the other incidences, it should be very obvious that Yahweh cares about getting His worship right. He has specific expectations for worship and will not compromise as man does. As a nation, first we compromised on divorce, then we compromised on homosexual marriage, now we’re compromising on transgenderism; what’s next? His people follow the Father’s Word without deviating to the right or left. Some might make the argument that we must change with the times, and while this may be okay with certain things, it’s not okay with biblical morality. Times change, truth does not. Malachi 3:6 says that Yahweh doesn’t change; if Yahweh doesn’t change then neither does His Word. While some churches are trying to justify gay marriage, the fact is Yahweh says this is an abomination – and no matter how hard man may try, there is no justifying abominations! Love of Money and the Root of All Evil

Compromise is also found in the New Testament in the account of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5:1-11. “But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to

lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto Elohim. And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the spirit: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him. And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much. Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of Yahweh? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the spirit: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband. And great fear came upon all the assembly, and upon as many as heard these things.” Ananias and Sapphira had committed to giving proceeds from a sale of a property to the assembly and then partially reneged on their commitment. Just as Yahweh took the lives of a compromising Nadab and Abihu, so He did with Ananias and Sapphira. After this, great fear fell upon the assembly. Sometimes the fear of Yahweh is not a bad thing. As we read in Proverbs, the fear of Yahweh is both the beginning of knowledge and wisdom. In this case, the people witnessed the consequences of compromising and lying to the Holy Spirit. When it comes to compromise, as is seen here, money is often at the root of the issue. As Paul states in 1Timothy 6:10, “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” Today a dismal number of believers actually tithe, including those who claim to obey the commandments. Many cannot part with the 10 percent that Yahweh claims as His. In the Book of Malachi Yahweh accused Israel of robbing Him when they were withholding their tithes and offerings. “Will a man rob Elohim? Yet you have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole

nation,” Malachi 3:8-9. The tithe is not optional. Those who neglect this command are robbing Yahweh of what belongs to Him. In Malachi 3:10 Yahweh issues a challenge to those withholding the tithe, “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith Yahweh of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” Make a Separation

Paul gives an admonition in 2Corinthians 6:14-18: “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath

righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Messiah with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of Elohim with idols? for ye are the temple of the living Elohim; as Elohim hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their Elohim, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith Yahweh, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith Yahweh Almighty.” We must make a separation as believers and show a contrast between what is holy and unholy. This passage dovetails the

Lawkeeping in the NEW Testament? For many in churchianity, advocating obedience to the Word today is bondage to a bygone era. and an attempt to earn salvation. Nothing could be further from the truth. The law represents the character and values of Yahweh and Yahshua, which believers are to emulate in their lives. Forget misguided church teachings. subject of compromise in that in order to show a righteous separation, we must never compromise Yahweh’s Word. Yahweh’s High Expectations

It’s vital that we get Yahweh’s worship right. This means that we honor the Sabbath and Feast days by keeping them holy and at the time Yahweh has appointed them. Beyond worship, this also means that we’re not participating in immorality like fornication or adultery or some other immoral sin. Our Heavenly Father has high standards and expects all His people to abide by them. This is why compromise does not compute for believers in the Messiah. The bottom line is that we will not be blessed if we are willfully and deliberately compromising what we know to be right. As we’ve seen through these events in the Word, Yahweh shows great displeasure for compromise. While He is certainly an El of love and compassion, He’s also an Mighty One of wrath to those who deliberately compromise His Word. Those who remain faithful to Yahweh without compromise are given the promise to be called sons and daughters of the Most High. They will be adopted into Yahweh’s family and will live forever as spirit beings. There’s no greater promise than this. As believers in the Messiah, let us never deliberately compromise what we know to be right and always remain faithful to the One we worship! Restoration Times Magazine July-August 2019

s you pass through this world on your way to the celestial New Jerusalem, you must not miss a mountaintop experience but be certain to attend the Feasts of Tabernacles with Yahweh’s saints. Our Creator set aside this time specifically for His people. At the Feast you will find many others just like yourself who feel a deep, inner compulsion to please our Heavenly Father. His called-out ones will leave no stone unturned in searching deeper Bible truth to follow until the day they die. You will join others in eye-opening studies of His Word and learn more of the plan He has for the redemption of mankind through His Son Yahshua. Only in doing what pleases our Heavenly Father can we find wisdom, peace, joy, faith, hope, and love. It is through association with others of like faith that the polishing of the finer points of His will takes place in the interaction among brethren. More importantly, we come to appreciate the price our Savior paid for our salvation. We realize that we have been chosen out of

the world to be a kind of first-fruits in the first resurrection. Not everyone is called now. Paul tells us, “For you see your calling brethren how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called,” 1Corinthians 1:26. But those who answer the call now will have the greater rewards. They will be those who fear and obey Yahweh and honor His Name, Malachi 3:16-17. Come Out of the World

Abraham was the first to be called. Born in Ur of the Chaldees (known as “moon city”), Abraham was to leave the corrupt district of Ur and move on to Canaan. Ur was most luxurious and progressive, as well as the seat of pagan teachings located in the heart of Nimrod’s Babylon. Because of a famine, Abraham first went to Egypt, Genesis 12:10. Egypt is symbolic. The nation of Israel was delivered from the hand of Pharaoh and taken out of Egypt, Exodus 12. As an infant, the Savior Himself was taken to Egypt to spare Him from Herod’s attempt to kill Him,

Matthew 2:15. After Herod’s death He was brought back to the land of Israel, verses 19-21. Egypt is a type of the world. We live in the world, but are to come out of the world spiritually and recognize that our citizenship is in the heavenly realm, Philippians 3:20. Feasts a Reprieve from the World

Coming literally out of the world is a significant part of attending the Feast of Tabernacles, which all of Yahweh’s faithful have observed down through the centuries. Interestingly, Abraham’s trek from Haran to Sichem to Zoan in Egypt, to Bethel and Ai in Canaan has been considered by serious Bible scholars as being a type of the seven annual Feasts of Yahweh. Hebrews 11:8-10 reveals that Abraham sojourned in the land of promise dwelling in tabernacles, yet searched for the permanent city whose builder and maker is Elohim. Certain evidence indicates that Abraham did indeed keep the Feast days listed for us in Leviticus 23. In Genesis 18:1 we learn that Yahweh appeared to him in the plains

of Mamre. Abraham fed three celestial beings unleavened cakes, verse 6, as did Lot, Genesis 19:3, likely the days of Unleavened Bread. The angelic being promised to return at “the time of life” (Gen. 18:10), which is understood to be spring when the earth again comes to life after the cold of winter. In verse 14 he promises to return at the “time appointed” (likely at the Passover) which in the Hebrew is moed. Moed is first mentioned in Genesis 1:14, where it is translated seasons, but actually means “appointed times.” Thus even back at creation Yahweh planned for His annual Feast days.

Yahweh will smite the heathen that come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.”

Not always apparent in our King James Bible is that the Sopherim changed the Hebrew text in their vowel pointing because they felt some of the statements were not honoring enough. Exodus 23:15 reads, “You shall keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread: (you shall eat unleavened bread seven days as I commanded you, in the time

we “see His face.” Verse 17 should read, “Three times in the year all your males shall see the face of Yahweh Flohim.” Seeing the face of Yahweh is the reward of the redeemed who make it into the glorious Kingdom! This we read in Revelation 22:4. “And they shall see His face; and His name shall be in their foreheads.’’ The promise of Yahweh is that we will come to a better understanding of His Word as we faithfully keep His appointed times and see the graciousness of our great Elohim in the faces of the gathered brethren. Abraham spoke to Yahweh face-toface as he was given the covenant to pass down through history to those who would faithfully follow the ways of Yahweh. Moses went up to the mountain and along with the 70 elders saw Yahweh face-to-face at the Pentecost season, Exodus 24:9-11. Many pass by the greatest experience of a lifetime because they do not feel it is important enough to take the time and expense to follow through with that which we know we need to be doing. Keeping His Feast days is something we

appointed of the month Abib; for in it you came out from Egypt: and none shall appear before Me empty).” The words “appear before Me” should really read “see My face.” However, the Sopherim believed this was degrading to Yahweh (in that it made Him too human), and they changed the text. Let us not overlook the fact that Yahweh says that it is at His commanded Feasts that

can speak of in the Kingdom when Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob will be there along with Moses and the faithful throughout the ages. Zechariah 14:16-19 shows that the Feast of Tabernacles will be kept when Yahshua rules. Those who don’t come up to keep it will be plagued with drought. “And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, that have no rain; there shall be the plague, wherewith

in the Kingdom. Enjoy the thrill of a mountaintop experience by keeping His Feast days. If we prove faithful we will see both Yahweh and Yahshua face-to-face in the Kingdom to come to earth. May we be able to say that we did what the Savior asked of us.

Will You Teach the Feasts Some Day?

We are called to serve as a kingdom of priests in the Millennium. “And hast made us unto our Elohim kings and priests [a kingdom of priests]: and we shall reign on the earth,” Revelation 5:10. Supposing in the Kingdom you are told to go help the Gentile nations observe the Feast of Tabernacles so that the rain will fall and the plague will be stayed from them, verse 19. Will you know when the Feast is to be held? What to do at the Feast? And as a priest what to teach about the Feast? Supposing they ask, “What gives you the right to bring a drought upon me and smite me with the plague when you never kept the Feasts a day in your life?” If you have never kept the Feasts you would make a poor teacher and could not rightfully bring punishment upon those who rebel at that time if you yourself are rebelling now! Start observing His Feasts now and prepare to be a teacher of righteousness

Your Acts of Obedience

by Alan Mansager

A

t the end of Matthew Yahshua the Messiah gave His disciples a commission to go to all the world and to teach the truth He had taught them (28:19-20). But what did He teach them to pass on to the world? Answering that question provides not only an important key to the Book of Acts, but also to the entire New Testament. In the Acts of the Apostles we see precisely how the Apostles went about carrying out the commission Yahshua had given them. Let’s see whether their message and activities match today’s popular understanding of the New Testament. Shocking Contrasts

For over three years these men had been under intensive, hands-on training from Yahshua Himself. Now with Yahshua gone, His disciples put that training to work in practice and teaching.

14

Restoration Times Magazine July-August 2019

One of the striking realities we come to in the Book of Acts is all the dissimilarities between what the early Assembly was being taught and what is commonly believed today about obedience and the New Testament. Why so many different doctrines coming from the same Bible? Should not everyone be on the same page with what the Apostles and disciples taught? Was what we read in Acts not what our Savior commanded them – and us – to do? We don’t find Yahshua the Messiah ever giving any instructions to change what He first commanded His early followers. For example, we don’t find Him saying, “Now after my death you will teach that a switch-over changed the day of worship from the seventh-day Sabbath to the first day of the week.” Nor does He ever say, “After I die biblical law will no longer be mandated and will be replaced by grace through faith

alone. Tell everyone all that was commanded Israel of old is no longer in force. With my death and resurrection will come a New Testament system of non-compliance.” Let’s take a fast tour through Acts and let it reveal its plain and clear message to us again, putting ourselves in the place of the people in Acts as they are being taught by the very followers of Yahshua. Old Testament Feasts in Effect

We are introduced to the Book of Acts on the occasion of a special observance. It has been a week and a half since Yahshua the Messiah ascended to heaven. People from various nations are gathered at Jerusalem for a Feast day. That day is none other than the Feast of Weeks or Pentecost. Chapter 2 details what happened at this historic Feast when the Holy Spirit was granted. But wait. Why are these devout believers from every nation gathered for

an Old Testament holy day in the New Testament? They were simply obeying a command that was never rescinded! Why is this plain fact never explained to modern worshipers? They hear about Whitsunday, Trinity Sunday, Lent, Good Friday, Epiphany, Ash Wednesday. Palm Sunday – none of which are found anywhere in the Scriptures. But the seven annual Feasts are found both in Old and New testaments and amazingly are completely ignored. Notice: “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place” (Acts 2:1). Ultimately 3,000 believers would repent and be baptized at this commanded event. Having come to the knowledge of the New Covenant and having been immersed into Yahshua’s Name, why weren’t these New Testament people not free from keeping the biblical Feast days like Passover, Pentecost, Feast of Trumpets, Day of Atonement, and Feast of Tabernacles? Some might argue that total freedom comes once they repent and are baptized. These people in Acts were no longer “Old Testament, lawkeeping Jews,” they might say. Now in Messiah they are free from any restraints of obedience. This begs the question, so, what were they repenting of, if the law was no longer in effect and therefore sin no longer existed? (1John 3:4). Paul surely was not free from the law. He came into the ministry after Yahshua died and was resurrected. Still, in Acts 18:21 he announces that he “must by all means keep this feast that comes in Jerusalem,” that is, the Feast of Tabernacles. Later, we find him trying to get to Jerusalem to observe Pentecost, Acts 20:16. Why is Paul so concerned with keeping Old Testament observances? Isn’t he now under grace, “born again” of Yahshua’s shed blood? Maybe Paul is just confused. Or is it the many Bible teachers today who are confused — who tell us that Old Testament laws are abolished when a dozen passages say that’s not true? In Acts 12:4 another special day is mentioned. Herod has arrested Peter, intending after Passover [not “Easter” as in the KJV] to release him. Another instance is 1Corinthians 5:8, where Paul is still observing the Feast of Unleavened Bread that follows Passover. He writes: ‘Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with

the unleavened [bread] of sincerity and truth” (ICor. 5:8). Again, who are the ones confused when they say the Feast days are not for the New Testament? His Name Proclaimed

Early on in the Book of Acts we learn that the high priest threw the Apostles into prison. Having been freed by an angel, they were told by the high priest to cease their preaching and teaching. Notice exactly what the high priest told them to do: “Did not we straitly command you that you should not teach in this NAME’? and, behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us,” Acts 5:28. The disciples are warned again in verse 40 not to teach in the name of Yahshua. We know His Name wasn’t “J-e-s-u-s” because that was a Latinized Greek hybrid that was not yet invented. What was their reaction? “And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name. And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Yahshua the Messiah” (Acts 5). No amount of persecution would stop the Apostles from proclaiming and teaching the true Name of Yahshua our Savior (who was Hebrew, not Greek). Now let us look at some other Old Testament laws still being observed in the New Testament Book of Acts. Clean Food Laws

If the clean food laws had been abolished by the Savior, then why had Peter, one of the chief Apostles, never learned of this new freedom to eat a ham sandwich? Following his vision of all sorts of clean and unclean animals rising and descending on a sheet, Peter hears a voice saying to kill and eat them. His answer in verse 14 is significant: “But Peter said, Not so, Master; for I have NEVER eaten anything that is common or unclean” (Acts 10:14). Even 10 years after the Savior ’s resurrection we find that this pillar among Apostles had not broken any clean food laws of Leviticus 11. The reason for this episode is given in verses 34-35 and 11:18. Now that the Holy Spirit had been granted to people of all backgrounds, the Jews were no more to consider the Gentiles “unclean,” as they did

with certain foods. Yahweh used unclean food as a powerful illustration to impress upon Peter the serious nature of his tendency to disallow Gentiles a part in the heavenly calling because they were considered “unclean.” Paul even had to chastise Peter because he would not sit with Gentiles after he saw some Jews walk into the room. Post-resurrection Sabbath Keeping

An important fact is pivotal here in speaking of Paul. He was not one of the 12 who followed Yahshua around Galilee absorbing His lessons. Rather, Paul learned from a resurrected Messiah. This fact is key. Galatians 1:11-12 says. “But I certify you, brethren, that the Good News which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Yahshua the Messiah.” See also Galatians 1:15-18. This is of great importance in light of the popular notion that everything changed after the death and resurrection of Yahshua. The general belief is that we are no longer under “bondage” to any of Yahweh’s laws since Yahshua’s death and resurrection abrogated them. In Paul we have a later conduit to truth, being that what he learned came during three years’ instruction directly from Yahshua after the resurrection of Yahshua. His teachings directly from Yahshua are as up-to-date as one could get. Today Sunday keeping is defended with the argument that it is the day the Savior was resurrected. And because of this resurrection, some will say, we no longer keep the Sabbath on the seventh day but on the first day of the week. But Yahshua never rose on Sunday! If you understand the text in the context of the Passover, the Messiah rose just before sundown on Saturday evening. Being taught from Yahshua Himself AFTER Yahshua’s resurrection, Paul surely would have been informed of the changes in devotion that some believe were instituted at the resurrection. So let’s see whether Paul is now a fullfledged Sunday keeper: “And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath” (Acts 13:42). Even the Gentiles were now meeting on the Sabbath and not Sunday. See more of Restoration Times Magazine July-August 2019

Paul’s keeping the seventh-day Sabbath in Acts 16:13 and 17:2. Moses a Key Figure in Acts

Yahweh’s laws are everlasting. Deuteronomy 7:9 says we are to keep the commandments to a thousand generations. Not even 100 generations have passed since Moses wrote this! Deacon Stephen was one of the unsung notables among the disciples. In Acts 7 he is explaining himself to the Sanhedrin. Notice what he says of Moses, “This is he, that was in the ch-rch in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles [utterances of Yahweh] to give unto us,” Acts 7:38. Do you mean Moses gave the law to us in the New Testament as well? That is exactly what Stephen said! In Acts 15:21 we still have the laws of Moses being taught throughout the area. “For Moses of old time has in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.” It is crystal clear that the seventh-day Sabbath was being observed in the New Testament Book of Acts long after Yahshua’s resurrection. In Acts 21:21-24 Paul is preaching just prior to his arrest. He has been accused of teaching against the law disseminated by Moses. “And they are informed of you, that you teach all the Jews which are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying that they ought not to circumcise their children, neither to walk after the

customs” (Acts 21:21). Did Paul teach that the law is now irrelevant? Hardly. He demonstrated that he was indeed a lawkeeper by taking the Nazarite vow to show that he “walked orderly and kept the law,” Acts 21:24. Not only do we find the sacred Name being taught in the Book of Acts, but we also find clean foods being observed, the Feasts being practiced, the Sabbath being kept holy and all the other moral and spiritual laws not only observed but also being taught. Why don’t we hear these truths from pulpits today? As a matter of unspoken fact, the Old Testament was even being used as the Apostles’ teaching text! Notice: “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the SCRIPTURES daily, whether those things were so” (Acts 17:11). The Old Tesiument was the only “Scriptures” existing at the time. Acts 3:21 speaks of our day. It says volumes about who the True Worshipers are and what they should teach and practice. “Whom the heaven must receive until the limes of restitution of all things, which Yahweh has spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.” Finally, in Acts 28:23 Paul is preaching under armed guard at Rome, where he has been taken for trial. In his defense, Paul’s statement in Acts 28:17 reaffirmed his stand on the Old Testament truths: “And it came to pass that after three days Paul called the chief of the Jews

together: and when they were come together, he said unto them, men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans” (Acts 28:17). The Book of Acts reveals a great deal about True Worship as a continuation and magnification of Old testament teachings of obedience. It is time to read it for what it says about obeying Yahweh and His laws. Breakaway Beliefs

Something is amiss if we believe that the New Testament teaches a whole new system of faith and conduct disconnected from the Old. Yahshua Himself upheld – even amplified – the necessity to obey His Father Yahweh (Matt. 5:17 to the end of the chapter). John 10:35 says Scripture cannot be broken. And yet churchianity has been trying to break the New Testament away from the Old Testament for 2,000 years. By claiming that the New Testament was written in Greek, today’s cleric can feel justified teaching a “New Testament” belief system that is disconnected from anything considered “Jewish,” and resembles in teaching and practice Grecian ideals. Thus the modern worshiper is further drawn away from the Israelite foundation on which True Worship rests. He is led subtly to accept a false New Testament faith free from Old Testament standards of obedience that Yahweh commanded and that the Hebrew Israelites and New Testament peoples also observed. Instead, lawless Gnosticism and teachings of Plato – like an immortal existence – prevail. Many Hebrew Survivals

An abundance of internal evidence points clearly to the unavoidable conclusion that the New Testament was originally written in the Hebrew language and was later translated into Greek. This fact alone helps provide the tie that binds Israelite worship in the Old Testament with the faith of spiritual Israel in the New Testament. Paul says in Romans 9 and 11 that we are grafted into that same Israelite Covenant promise given in the Old Testament. Many other direct connections are revealed between the Old Testament and New Testament, harmonizing to give us one view of truth and not two. The Apostles shared their faith with Abraham.

The Many Facets of Biblical

Love

by Randy Folliard

Y

ahweh’s truth is more than a set of rules and regulations. Yahweh’s truth is also a state of mind, a type of attitude. To truly follow Yahweh’s law through Yahshua’s footsteps we must always remember that the greatest commandments have to do with love. The Savior showed us in Matthew 22:34-40 to love Yahweh and love our neighbor. Without love in our lives Yahweh’s Word would never have an opportunity to truly perfect us. We can see time after time in the Scriptures where Yahweh tells us to love one another and admonish one another in love. Love is such a small word, yet its impact is enormous. Pure love means never putting self first. Love is having a deep concern for our spiritual family members and showing respect for those around us. Love is putting ourselves to the side and helping others instead. Love is never selfish but always giving. Yahweh told us that it is better to give than to receive. Love is the firstfruit of the spirit.

“But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law” (Gal. 5:22-23). Love is what the entire Law hangs on. “On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets” (Matt. 22:40). Love Over All

In the passage commonly known as the love chapter, the Apostle Paul emphasizes how necessary love is for the True worshiper: “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have no love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices

with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease: where there are tongues, they will be stilled: where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love” (1Cor. 13:1-13, NIV). This chapter starts out by listing many gifts we can receive through the Holy Spirit. Paul tells us in each case, however, that if we have not loved, that gift has gained us nothing. Love is patient. We must always have patience with our brothers within the faith and the world around us. Restoration Times Magazine July-August 2019

17

The second quality Paul lists is kindness. That perfection that Yahshua spoke about in Matthew 5:48 is the goal of the True Worshiper. We must always show kindness toward others, just as Yahweh has shown kindness to us. We have all fallen short of the glory of Yahweh. Paul tells us we are not to envy one another. Through envy comes jealousy. James reminds us that jealousy leads only to confusion and every vile deed. “But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such ‘wisdom’ does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, or of the devil. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice” (James 3:14-16, NIV). Paul goes on and tells us that love is not being rude to the people around us. Remember, the world needs an example that comes from Yahweh’s Spirit. Love is never self-seeking but focuses on others. Further in the chapter the Apostle says that love is not easily angered, because we are the light to this present-day world. We are the salt of the earth that must not lose its flavor. Love keeps no score of wrongs, Paul writes. We cannot go through life keeping a tally on everybody who has ever wronged us in some way. If we forgive then our Heavenly Father will be faithful to forgive us. Paul explains that we must always rejoice with the truth and a l l o w Ya h w e h ’s glory to shine in the world around us. Paul lists four more qualities that are essential to our salvation. He tells us we must always protect, always trust, always hope, always persevere. The chapter ends with many examples of prophecies, tongues, and knowledge — saying that all shall pass away Times Magazine 18 Restoration July-August 2019

Let our hearts always be focused upon Yahweh’s righteousness and Kingdom. and only three qualities will remain. Those qualities are found in the 13th verse: “And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

Love Not the World

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the father, but is of the world. And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he that does the will of Yahweh abides for ever” (1John 2:15-17). Do these verses give us the right to go around hating the world with an unhappy attitude? John tells us that everything that is found in the world is full of man’s sin. Yet, he by no means is telling us to be in a bad attitude concerning the world. One of the fruits of the spirit found within Galatians 5:22 is joy. John shows that we are not to have joy through the sin of this world but through Yahweh’s righteousness. Yahshua the Messiah tells us to lay up our treasure in heaven where it will not pass away. He explains that where our treasure is there will our heart be also. “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust corrupt and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust corrupt, and where thieves do break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matt. 6:19-21). Let our hearts always be focused u p o n Ya h w e h ’ s righteousness and Kingdom. Paul tells Timothy to be content with the essentials. “For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can neither carry nothing out. And having food and raiment, let us be therewith content” (1Tim. 6:7-8). Our hearts and treasure must always be to focus upon Yahweh, while being a bright and shining light to this world.

John tells us that we are not to love this present day world. Those who love the world Love Your Enemies do not have the love of the Father in them. The Messiah told us to love our enemies

and pray for them. “You have heard that it was said, you shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy: but I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for them that persecute you” (Matt. 5:43-44). We as Yahweh’s True Believers should always keep our faith in Yahshua the Messiah, and look past one another’s faults, including our enemies. We should strive for the perfection that Yahweh wants. Keep in mind that when we were caught up in the sins of this world we were Yahweh’s enemies. Through the love Yahweh showed us by giving us His only Son, and allowing us an atonement for our sins, we try to show the same love toward our enemies. Yahweh tells us that if we keep His commandments we love Him, and those that do not keep His commandments the love of the father is not in them. “He that says, I know him, and keeps not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keeps his word, in him is the love of Yahweh perfected: hereby know we that we are in him,” 1John 2:4-5. “If you love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15). The same message is found in John 14:21-24, John 15:9-10, 1John 3:24, and 1John 5:3. Many other verses show that through obedience to Yahweh’s Word, we are showing Yahweh that we love Him.

When we want to show love and respect to our earthly parents, we obey them. We show similar respect and love by keeping our Heavenly Father’s commandments. Love Your Neighbor

When Yahshua was asked by a scribe what commandment was foremost, He replied, “The first of all the commandments is, hear, O Israel; Yahweh our Elohim is one master: And you shall love Yahweh your Elohim with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, you shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is none other commandment greater than these” (Mark 12:29-31). Yahshua shows that the second greatest commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself. We can see that same commandment given by Moses in Leviticus 19:18, “But you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am Yahweh.” What does it mean to love your neighbor as yourself? It means to love and treat the people we come into contact with as we want to be treated ourselves. “If you fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, you shall love your neighbor as yourself, you do well” (James 2:8). The follower of Yahweh will love and respect those around him, including his

enemies. “For if you love them that love you, what reward have you? Do not even the publicans so? And if you salute your brethren only, what do you more than others? do not even the publicans so? Be therefore perfect [complete] even as your father which is in heaven is perfect” (Matt. 5:46-48). By loving your neighbor you are fulfilling the law (Rom. 13:8-10). Yahshua also tells us that there is no greater love than to give the ultimate sacrifice: “Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends,” John 15:13. Yahshua demonstrated this by giving His own life so that we would have an atonement for our sins and could appear before Him without blemish: “As the Father knows me, even so know I the father: and lay down my life for the sheep” (John 10:15). “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise Elohim our savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever” (Jude 24-25). Let us love one another from the heart, and allow Yahweh’s spirit to grow within us. May we remember that with the right heart we keep Yahweh’s commandments. May we keep the faith of our only Savior and appear before His throne unblemished. May Yahweh lead us toward His Kingdom. Restoration Times Magazine July-August 2019

Q

When the Day of Atonement comes, what should we do regarding our medication? It will be just fine if we avoid our vitamins and supplements for 24 hours, but my wife is diabetic and has high blood pressure, and I take medicine to control my seizures. We reasoned that we can take our evening doses just before sunset as Atonement approaches, and perhaps take the same dose as soon as it sets the next day. But what should we do about our morning doses that we can’t reschedule?

is death. Still, His death does not absolve us from keeping the law, which would bring more curse. To be justified means just as if we had not sinned, and no amount of lawkeeping can justify us. Only by the grace of Yahweh are we just before Him. Then the verse says the “righteous” live by faith. By definition righteous means to abide by Yahweh’s com-

A

Yahweh doesn’t provide us alternatives, statutes of limitations or special exemption clauses with His commands. We simply follow what the law commands regardless of issues or any personal circumstances. For me, a day of fasting isn’t going to do any harm and is actually good for spiritual and physical health. For diabetics a day of fasting lowers blood sugar without medicating. Many medications like those to treat blood pressure have a carryover effect so that they are still active in the system even after 24 hours. Ask yourself, do I believe in my heart that Yahweh is going to let any harm come while I am being obedient to His commands? Then do as your faith allows.

Q

In Galatians 3:11-14 Paul states that no one is declared justified by Torah before Elohim, for the righteous shall live by faith. Messiah Yahshua redeemed us from the curse of the law having become a curse for us. We have Christian friends who quote this to us and we have no answer because it confuses us. Does Paul advocate the Torah or is he saying it is a curse?

A 20

The law is not a curse, but breaking it brings on a curse. Yahshua took on Himself to pay that curse or penalty that all sinners earn, which

m a n d s . Therefore, those obedient to the law live by faith. They know they can trust in His atoning work for them—if they remain faithful. Paul wrote that without law there can be no sin, Romans 5:13. He also wrote in Romans 3:23 that all have sinned, so for sin to exist in every person there must be law in existence everywhere. If the law is unnecessary, why did Yahshua teach it most every day of His ministry, and then keep it perfectly as our example and goal in the New Testament? (Luke 6:46; 1John 1:6-7 and 2:6; 1Peter 2:21-22; Romans 8:29). No one has gone to heaven, John 3:13 says, but the Bible also says that Enoch was translated that he should not see death, Hebrews 11:5. What happened to him?

Q

A

He died. We know this because later in verse 13 of this same Hebrews chapter–which speaks of Enoch and others–says, “These ALL died in faith, not having received the promises...” If they didn’t receive the promises yet, then none of them is in heaven, which agrees with John 3:13: “And no man has ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.” The death that this verse talks about is the second death, the one that occurs to the wicked. The Greek reads that Enoch was translated that he “will not” see death, the second death. This is future tense. So what does it mean that Enoch was “translated”? The Greek word is metatithemi and means taken and carried. The same word is used in Acts 7:16, speaking of the way Jacob and others were carried over to their final resting place in the grave. We learn that Enoch was buried by Yahweh Himself, just as Moses was when he died. That is why no one found him or Moses. But they were not whisked away to heaven.

Q A

How can one be filled with the Spirit, as we read in Ephesians 5:18?

Several criteria are involved in receiving the Holy Spirit, both as to the recipient and in how the Spirit is given. Acts 2:38 reads, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Yahshua the Messiah for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” “Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of Yahweh, they sent unto them Peter and John: who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit: (for as yet it was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the sovereign Yahshua.) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit,” Acts 8:14-17. “Neglect not the gift that is in you, which was given you by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery,” ITimothy 4:14. “And we are His witnesses of these

things, and so is also the Holy Spirit, Whom Yahweh has given to them that OBEY Him,” Acts 5:32. “But GROW in grace, and in the knowledge of our sovereign and Savior Yahshua Messiah,” 2Peter 3:18. Be sure that the one baptizing is an ordained and qualified Elder (according to 1Tim. 3:1-7), that you are immersed into Yahshua’s Name as in every baptism performed in Acts, and that you receive the laying on of hands “of the presbytery,” which means the ministry, 1Timothy 4:14.

Q

I was told that I don’t need to be part of any group. Should True Worshipers be organized, or is it okay to worship independent of any organized body?

A

Everything about the Old and New testament shows organized worship. The gifts of the spirit in 1Corinthians 12 and Ephesians 4 are given to perfect the saints and for the work of the ministry. The gifts are to be used for the benefit of the entire Body. Notice: “And He gave some apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of the Messiah: till we all come into the unity of the faith...” Each of these offices (which are all masculine in the Greek), are given for use in an organized way so that each person may benefit from all of them combined. Paul shows this in 1Corinthians 12. : “By one Spirit are we all baptized into one body...For the body is not one member but many. If the foot shall say, ‘Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body;’ is it therefore not of the body?...But now has Elohim set the members every one of them in the body, as it has pleased Him.”

Q

How can you say that the dead are unconscious? Doesn’t Scripture say that there are people in heaven, saints? J-sus said I have prepared a place, a mansion for you, in heaven. To die is to be with the L-rd. The rich man lifted his eyes in hell and thirsted for water. J-sus says to thief, this day you will be in paradise. The dead know nothing about this earthly life but not the life in heaven.

A

We will briefly comment on each of the alleged proofs you gave for the belief that heaven is man’s destiny: • Where Revelation 19:1 says “people” in the KJV it is from the Greek ochlos and means a crowd or multitude. To assume it is a crowd of people and not angelic beings is to read more into it than is there. • Yahshua is preparing not a residence for us in heaven, but the word “mansions” means positions in His family (Matt. 20:23) and where Yahshua goes we may be also. And where is Yahshua going? Right here on earth for the Millennium. • Paul said he would rather be absent from the body and to be present with the Master, 1Cor. 5:8. (who wouldn’t?) He did NOT say to be absent from the body IS to be present with the Master. • The rich man was in the grave (hades) and not burning alive forever in consuming hellfire (gehenna), Luke 16:23. • A misplaced comma renders the passage to say the thief would be with Yahshua in paradise that day. But Yahshua never went to paradise that day, and not until three days later when He was resurrected. • The dead know nothing, period, not in any life, Eccl. 9:5. Their thoughts perish (Ps.146:4). If Yahshua didn’t totally and

completely die then we have no Savior or payment for our sins and must pay the death penalty ourselves. Hebrews 11:13 tells us (speaking of the patriarchs): “These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and oonfessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.” Again in verses 39-40 we read: “And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: Elohim having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.” None of those mentioned in Hebrews 11 are alive in heaven. Upon death a person’s spirit or breath returns to Yahweh (Eccl. 12:7) and the person is in an unconscious state. The belief that we go to either heaven or hell when we die is not based in Scripture. If people go immediately to these places when they die then who is being judged during the first and second resurrection? All those raised would have been judged already. So they die, go to either heaven or hell, float around on clouds or burn for a while, then when the time comes they come back to their earthly bodies, get judged AGAIN and then go back to heaven or hell? It defies the Word! It is complete nonsense to think we die, go to heaven, then turn around and come back to be judged on whether we were worthy to be there in the first place. Living eternally in heaven or hell is NOT what is going to happen to anyone, dead or alive. After New Jerusalem descends to the earth and the Kingdom of Yahweh is established here, Yahweh is going to dwell among His chosen ones on earth, Revelation 21:2-3.
