“A big WELCOME and enjoy”

The now-ruined Reigate Castle was built under orders from William de Warenne, 2nd Earl of Surrey in the 12th century and the medieval market town sprung up around this. Trading in oatmeal for much of the 16th century meant there were a dozen or so mills in the area during this period, with two windmills remaining today at Wray Common and Reigate Heath. The arrival of the London to Brighton railway line in 1841 led to building across the area and the creation of neighbouring Redhill.

Property in Reigate encompasses everything from detached 1920s houses to Victorian cottages and Edwardian semis to contemporary flats, so there is truly something to cater to all tastes and budgets. There is a slant towards the high-end market however, neighbouring Redhill is less expensive with more new build properties on offer and a good variety of property for sale and to rent. Reigate is renowned for its ‘caves’ which are in fact historical sand mines that tunnel beneath the town centre with guided tours available.

History Of The Bed Post

We have stores in Crayford, Sidcup, Petts Wood , Sevenoaks and Reigate in Surrey. The Bed Post is a family owned business which opened its doors for the first time in April 1987 in a modest showroom in Lee Green. We have steadily grown moving into showrooms in Sidcup and Eltham. In 1999 we moved into our 10,000 square foot flagship showroom & warehouse in Crayford. In 2007 we added another showroom in Dunton Green, near Sevenoaks and in 2021 we opened our 5th shop in Reigate Surrey. With over 35 years history, we have developed rapidly supplying beds, mattresses and bedroom furniture to our customers all over the south east.

Questions to ask when buying a bed

Buying a new bed can be confusing and frustrating as it isn’t something we do every day. Our staff at The Bed Post will ask the right questions to establish just what is required. Is the customer a back or side sleeper, do they require a soft, medium or firm feel mattress? Do they suffer from allergies? What size of bed do they require? Having gained certain information we are then able to guide our customers through a selection of products that might suit their requirements. One thing we do insist on, is to, ‘Try Before You Buy’. There is no substitute for laying on a mattress to see if it feels right for you.

National Trust - Reigate Hill and Gatton Park

This 600-acre stretch of the North Downs offers flower-sprinkled grasslands, shady woods, dramatic views towards the Weald and the South Downs and a landscaped park designed by none other than ‘Capability’ Brown. It’s great walking and cycling country, as well as a lovely spot for family picnics and games, and features numerous historic points of interest, including Reigate Fort, a modern stone circle and the site of a crashed Second World War bomber. Gatton Park was created in the 1760s by renowned English landscape designer Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown. It features sweeping vistas, lots of trees and a series of ponds winding their way down the valley to a large lake.

Reigate Caves

The Surrey town of Reigate is well known for its ‘caves’ which riddle the town centre, although these are in fact largely old sand mines. The castle mound overlooking Reigate town centre is composed of soft sandstone and has been mined over several centuries. The castle has long gone but the mound and many of its excavations still remain. Known locally as the “Reigate Caves”, tours include the Barons’ Cave in the Castle Grounds and the East and West Caverns in Tunnel Road. Buckland Park Lake

An outdoor recreation space, set between Dorking and Reigate. Home to a pristine 50-acre lake and a water sports lagoon. Dramatic cliffs, almost 50 acres of mature woodland, walking trails, an abundance of birdlife and hides for spotting them from. Due to the wildlife, we can’t allow dogs, so please leave your four-legged friend at home. Our relaxed restaurant, The Reverie, serves light bites, meals and drinks and the view across the lake from the terrace is something special. Any guests with a reservation at The Reverie will receive a three-hour free-parking ticket, and no entry ticket to the park needs to be purchased. Our water sports lagoon is home to The Surrey Hills Adventure Company (or The SHAC), who run stand up paddle boarding sessions and lessons and an open water swimming club. Please remember to pre-book your SUP or swim session with The SHAC, because we only run pre-booked sessions and swimming is not otherwise permitted. We have several partners offering Wellness activities, such as Yoga, Nordic Walking, and fitness classes. Tell us a little about the background of Hystar. Hystar was founded back in 1977 by Stephen Hyde from where the company gets its name. Stephen played around with the letters in his name, ‘Stephen Arthur Hyde’, eventually coming up with HYSTAR. What is planning?

Planning is the process of deciding whether a proposed development should go ahead or not. It uses national and local policies to consider the development in its context and may look at the impact of the work on neighbours and the wider community, existing architecture, the land, the layout, and existing or proposed infrastructure (such as drains, transport and schools).

You will probably need planning permission if your proposed development will do any of the following:

• create a new building, or change the use or appearance of an existing building

• affect the sunlight, privacy or outlook for neighbouring properties

• affect the nearby area with noise disturbance, smell or fumes

• work on or around listed buildings or any conservation areas

• affect traffic volumes, road safety or access

• change the density of development in an area

• use significantly different materials or finishes from nearby properties

• have an effect on existing trees

What is building control?

Building control applies national statutory regulations to ensure the structural quality of any building work, in areas such as safety, public health, accessibility, and the materials used. Most substantial building projects (such as an extension, knocking down walls or converting a garage or loft) will need Building Regulations approval.
