HIGHLIGHTS
IT’S EXCITITNG TIMES AT REGNUM. In the past two years, we have seen the publication activity of Regnum increase significantly. With the introduction of two new series, another two in the pipeline, and some major text books and reference works added to our list, we have seen Regnum grow and grow.
THE YEAR 2010 saw the culmination of years of planning with Edinburgh 2010. Regnum is delighted to be a partner in publishing a series of works associated with this major missiological conference and venture (see pp.4-5).
Our aim is to see the imprint recognised as a world-leader in missiology, giving both established scholars and newly qualified academics the chance to publish. Our list of titles truly reflects the breadth of God’s creation - geographically we have books from all the corners of the globe, and our authors come from a wide range of church backgrounds. We hope that more and more people will enjoy and benefit from our books, through which we will see God’s work in transformation. Wonsuk Ma, Director
The growing series, Regnum Studies in Global Christianity, has had a number of new titles, not least of which is The Handbook of Theological Education in World Christianity. A major world-wide reference tool, the handbook has already been attracting enthusiastic reviews (see pp.10-11). And 2011 sees the launch of a fourth and fifth distinct series as part of the Regnum list.

Regnum Edinburgh 2010 The Centenary of the World Missionary Conference, held in Edinburgh 1910, is a opportune moment for many people seeking direction for Christian mission in the 21st century. Several different constituencies within world Christianity are holding significant events around 2010. Since 2005 an international group has worked collaboratively to develop an intercontinental and multi-denominational project, now known as Edinburgh 2010, and is based at New College, University of Edinburgh. This initiative brings together representatives of twenty different global Christian bodies, representing all major Christian denominations and confessions and many different strands of mission and church life, to prepare for the Centenary. Essential to the work of the Edinburgh 1910 Conference, and of abiding value, were the findings of the eight think-tanks or ‘commissions’. These inspired the idea of a new round of collaborative reflection on Christian mission – but now focused on nine themes identified as being key to mission in the 21st century. The study process is polycentric, open-ended, and as inclusive as possible of the different genders, regions of the world, and theological and confessional perspectives in today’s church. The titles of the Edinburgh 2010 Series are divided into two categories: (1) the three official titles of Edinburgh 2010, and (2) publications of various study groups, including the Edinburgh 2010 main study groups, transversal, regional and different confessional study groups. These publications reflect the ethos of Edinburgh 2010 and will make a significant contribution to its study process. It should be clear that material published in this series will inevitably reflect a diverse range of views and positions. These will not necessarily represent those of the series’ editors or of the Edinburgh 2010 General Council, but in publishing them the leadership of Edinburgh 2010 hope to encourage conversation between Christians and collaboration in mission. All the series volumes are commended for study and reflection by both churches and academies.

Regnum Studies in Global Christianity In the latter part of the twentieth century the world witnessed significant changes in global Christian dynamics. Take for example the significant growth of Christianity in some of the poorest countries of the world. Not only have numbers increased, but the emphasis of their engagement has expanded to include ministry to a wider socio-cultural context than had previously been the case. The Regnum Studies in Global Christianity series explores the issues with which the global church struggles, focusing in particular on ministry rooted in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. Not only does the series make available studies that will help the global church learn from past and present, it provides a platform for provocative and prophetic voices to speak to the future of Christianity. The editors and the publisher pray particularly that the series will grow as a public space, where the voices of church leaders from the majority world will contribute out of wisdom drawn from experience and reflection, thus shaping a healthy future for the global church. To this end, the editors invite theological seminaries and universities from around the world to submit relevant scholarly dissertations for possible publication in the series. Through this, it is hoped that the series will provide a forum for South-to-South as well as South-to-North dialogues.

Regnum Studies in Global Christianity FEATURED MINI SERIES: In the encounters of religions and civilizations none is more consequential and more urgent than that between Islam and Christianity, and in that encounter nothing is more fundamental than the questions of the Cross, the Incarnation and the Resurrection of Jesus. Open and honest conversation on these is not an option but a necessity as Christians and Muslims face each other on a daily basis. The first of the three volumes was on the Cross and was published in 2009. The second volume (in the press) is on the topic of the Incarnation and the third, planned for the end of 2011, is on the resurrection. The particular angle these volumes adopt allows the voices of Christians to reflect on these themes living as they do in the various ‘Islamic contexts’. These books will be a particularly useful resource for theological students and teachers interested in engaging with their Muslim neighbours with respect and honesty.

David Emmanuel Singh (Research Tutor in Islamic Studies, Oxford Centre for Mission Studies) has been teaching and writing in the field of theology of religions for close to two decades through the Bible Society of India, Union Biblical Seminary, Allahabad Bible Seminary, Henry Martyn Institute and Crowther Hall. He is now a Tutor at OCMS where he also edits Transformation, an international journal of Holistic Mission Studies. He is the author of Sainthood and Revelatory Discourse (Oxford/Delhi: Regnum/ISPCK, 2003).
Christianity and Education is a collection of papers originally published in Transformation over a period of 15 years. It brings to life some of the papers that lay buried in shelves and in disparate volumes of Transformation, under a single volume for theological libraries, students and teachers. The articles here represent a spectrum of Christian thinking addressing issues of institutional development for theological education, theological studies in the context of global mission, contextually aware/informed education, and academies which deliver such education, methodologies and personal reflections.

These churches have more to tell than just stories of growth. Their work is making a significant impact in shaping their cultures in the power and image of Christ. Through Regnum, these practitioners are expressing the reality of the Christian faith as it is manifested in their societies and making the work of God known, globally. She is the author of four books and numerous academic articles. Wonsuk Ma (Ph.D., Fuller) served as Vice President of Academic Affairs of Asia Pacific Theological Seminary (1996-2006) and Editor of Asian Journal of Pentecostal Studies. He is the David Yonggi Cho Research Tutor and Executive Director of Oxford Centre for Mission Studies, Oxford, UK. Regnum Studies in Mission FORTHCOMING TITLES IN THE SERIES: Civilisations in Conflict? Islam, the West and Christian Faith ANDREW KIRK Samuel Huntington’s thesis, which argues that there appear to be aspects of Islam that could be on a collision course with the politics and values of Western societies, has provoked much controversy. The purpose of this study is to offer a particular response to Huntington’s thesis by making a comparison between the origins of Islam and Christianity; the two religions that can be said to have shaped, in contrasting ways, the history of the Western world.
