Most women who had their loving father in their lives tend to make better decisions when it comes to living their best life. They are more confident and secure. Some also may take their time to say “I do.” Unfortunately, not all little girls had their fathers around to help raise them. However, it sometimes makes the girl stronger. Weekly Orgasms

or some, sex isn’t viewed as a necessity for everyday function or well being, but orgasms actually provide more health benefits than one would think. One study from Wilkes University found that people who had sex once or twice a week strengthened their immunity by 30%. Close bodily contact and the combination of bodily fluids during intercourse create a spiritual bond that is unspoken yet felt. Why Reaching an Orgasm Is Difficult For Women Lessens pain During orgasm, the brain releases endorphins, neurotransmitters that interact with the sections of cells of the brain that respond to pain. The release of endorphins helps a person’s awareness of pain to be lowered, taking emphasis off of whatever is ailing. hy aren’t more women investing in stocks today? Especially, since history has proven that stocks have outperformed every other investment! Stocks long-term have beat the returns on cash investments and bonds! For instance, there aren’t any banks

More women need to invest in stocks! today that offer the high returns stocks can offer! Women may earn 1 & 1/2% interest, for example, on a savings or a money market account! A 2018 Women and Investing Study states: “With more than half of women (56 percent) still not investing, and leaving nearly all their savings in cash or bank accounts – which on average earn less than a one percent return – many may be missing out on thousands of dollars in potential earnings.” Stocks, on the other hand, can offer women investors double-digit returns. Why are women settling for less on their savings? Studies have shown that the fear of risk could be one-factor preventing women from entering the stock market. Women should not deny themselves the higher returns that stocks can offer, in the long-term, due to the risk factor! The biggest risk for women is not investing in stocks at all! This could prove costly over the long-term! Learning how to manage risk, and making “educated” stock picks, can narrow a woman’s risk! (Read my article on risk: @lindasstocks.com). Could a lack of confidence be keeping some women from investing? Some studies point to this as a reason that more women aren’t investing in stocks. Improving their investment knowledge by learning everything they can about

12

investing is one way for women to gain more confidence. Moreover, replacing fear with confidence when investing helps a woman feel surer of her investing decisions. Research has shown that women are hesitant to learn and invest in stocks. Why is this? Women are smart with money! Many women are conservative and the major shoppers in their families! Furthermore, women do a great job managing their household budgets! It is never too late for women to learn how to invest in stocks! If they start investing when they are young, they will have a huge advantage! This gives a woman’s money years to grow and takes full advantage of the “miracle of compound interest!” Compound interest is computed on your initial principal and also on the accumulated interest of prior periods. However, even if you are a woman in your 50’s or 60’s etc….you should still be invested in stocks to obtain maximum returns on your monies. I read a book: “Warren Buffet Invests Like A Girl” (And Why You Should Too) written by Louann Lofton. I strongly recommend this book to all women! Buffett is considered to be the best

investor in the world. He is a long-term investor and very patient with his stock picks. Moreover, studies have shown that women possess some of Buffett’s superb investment qualities. Women are more likely to exercise patience, invest long-term, and educate themselves on investing. Women also research a company thoroughly before purchasing its’ stock. Studies have demonstrated that women make “excellent” stock investors and, in fact, outperform male investors! For those women just getting started investing there are hundreds of books on money and investing! Women, no matter how busy they are, should make the time to learn how to invest in stocks. This should be one of their financial priorities! Preparing for their financial future is time well spent! Moreover, there are “online” financial websites to help guide women on their investment journey. Google and Yahoo Finance are great websites for researching your companies. Do not let a lack of knowledge prevent you from earning higher returns on your money! Be sure to check out my many investing articles @lindasstocks.com to help get you started. In conclusion, there are not enough women investing in stocks today! Studies have shown that one reason for this may be fear of the risk involved. However, smart women will manage this risk by doing the necessary homework before purchasing their stocks. Some studies have suggested that a lack of confidence could be another factor preventing women from investing in the stock market. This could be due to lack of knowledge. It’s important for women to educate themselves before investing. Published by Linda Brown

oman’s Essence Magazine (For & About Powerful Women) interviewed Ashley Alexiss who is the Founder/CEO of AlexissSwimwear and a famous American glamour model. It was a pleasure getting to know Ashley. She is an accomplished woman that did not allow society to define her or narrate her story. She shows the world every day that size does not matter. It is beauty from within you that matters. She grew up in a single parent household and always had the support she needed from her mother to go after what her heart desires. Her interview will inspire and motivate you to go after what you want and to stop worrying about what other people think. When did you decide you wanted to be a model? I kind of decided I wanted to model, by accident. As a child. I never liked photos. In fact, photos from my childhood usually consist of me with a puss on my face because I hated the camera so much. But when I was 15, I wanted to enter the Miss Teen Massachusetts pageant. I ended up winning Miss Congeniality and had to do a photo-shoot. I was nervous and didn’t really know what I was getting myself into but as soon as that camera shutter went off, something inside me clicked. I knew I was right where I was supposed to be and felt like I was doing something I could see myself doing for a long time. Spoiler alert: it was J What motivated you to pursue modeling? When I decided to pursue modeling, at first it was because it was enjoyable. Then I was told

I wasn’t “model material.” I had photographers turn down working with me because I wasn’t skinny. Agencies wouldn’t even take a second look at me because I wasn’t tall. And nobody really took me seriously because it just kind of fell into my lap. So I sought out to create something for myself. For about 4 years, I was busting out 7-8 shoots a week to build up my portfolio and learn the craft of what it meant to truly model. I would spend many nights in the mirror practicing my expressions and poses. I taught myself everything and built everything without an agency, without a manager, and without any handouts. How do you feel when you are modeling? It’s hard to explain how I feel when I model. It just brings me joy. I can’t help but smile and just enjoy the incredible people I meet on every shoot. I’ve honestly only had maybe 3-4 unfavorable experiences in my 10+ years of doing this.

Who were your biggest supporters? My biggest supporter has always been my Mom. She even supported me going to college in California when I was 17, all by myself, because it would allow me to work with professionals in Hollywood. She knew how much it truly made me happy and has been there for every milestone.

Balancing a career and education hasn’t been easy but I never gave myself another option. 20

How was it growing up in a single parent household? Growing up in a single parent household felt normal because I didn’t know any different. It never felt weird, or that I was missing out on anything. My Mom kept me busy and did everything she could to make sure my childhood was memorable. How does your mother feel about your thriving career in modeling and your lingerie business? My Mom has been so supportive

since the beginning and she loves watching it all pay off because she’s seen the endless hours I’ve put into my career. I mean, a lot of the lingerie boxes I’m on end up in adult stores & she still screams, with major mama bear proudness, that the girl on the box is her baby girl haha If that’s not supportive, I don’t know what is. How did you manage to balance your hectic career in modeling and your education? Balancing a career and education hasn’t been easy but I never gave myself another option. So I knew I has to power through. It’s tough because I’m constantly traveling, not sleeping, trying to be the best I can be, and it takes a lot out of you. There were times I’d be reading material for a final while my hair was getting set for a shoot. I made every extra minute I had, worth it for

my education. My thought process was that this (my modeling career) could end at anytime. But a degree is something NOBDOY can take away from me and it’ll back me up to get a solid career job if modeling didn’t work out. Luckily, we’re still pushing on and I have an MBA. How did you feel when you received your Master’s Degree? Receiving my Master’s Degree was such a proud moment for so many reason. One, it was the reward for all the sleepless nights. Two, it actually helped me with my own business. Three, I was my class speaker and that feeling is something I can still feel and remember. Just overwhelmed with pride of what I had accomplished and the fact that I stuck with it. What was going through your mind when you won a Playboy modeling contest with 2.2 million votes? That day feels so long ago. 8 years actually. That was when people started to really recognize me and respect me. But that wasn’t what made my heart full. It was that 2.2 MILLION people, many of whom I never met, believed in me and deemed me worthy of representing such an iconic brand. I cried for like 3 hours because I couldn’t believe it. Definitely one of the highlights of my career. How do you prepare yourself mentally to deal with the day to day demands in the modeling industry? When you’ve been doing this so long, you learn to block out the noise and focus on the positives. Some days are better than others, but it’s important to remind yourself that if it’s a bad day, there’s a good one around the corner. Plus, like I mentioned, I really do love what I do so much. It’s

all worth it. What motivated you to start your own swimwear line, Alexiss Swimwear? Alexiss Swimwear is my baby and something I’m so beyond proud of. My goal in life is to create something that will, eventually, outlive me. Alexiss Swimwear started when I noticed a total emptiness in the market of swimwear for women with large chests. I would have a lot of my tops custom made and my women followers would always ask where they were from. Finally, it clicked. I spent many, many, many hours, and lots of headaches perfecting a brand that I could be proud of for women of various sizes. No matter big or small, I wanted women to feel comfortable, supported, and confident. With thousands of customers, I believe I’m achieving that and there’s nothing more satisfying than knowing you’re creating something that brings other people confidence and happiness. Website: www.ShopAlexiss.com What advice would you give to a young girl who was told she does not have it takes to be a model? If someone tells you that you don’t have what it takes to be a model, use that as motivation. Let that be your fuel to get you going and find your own ways to make your mark in the industry. It’s not easy and there will be times when you want to quit, but those are the times you must remind yourself of why you started. Focus on your goal and when you reach it, make a new one J Please share one of your favorite inspiring quotes? Beauty is not a size.

The Importance of

“Support” S

upport, this word is often used by us, but what does it really mean to you? For me, it’s being there, a listening ear, a helping hand not necessarily financial, being reliable and being honest to the person you are aiding. Yes, everyone has his or her own definition. For women in my situation, they may or may not understand, however What I have realized during this journey is the importance of having support (the right kind of support).

During my pregnancy, I was overall healthy. In my first trimester, I was always tired and falling asleep but I could eat anything. Never had morning sickness during the entire pregnancy and my energy level increased during my second trimes-

Prior to being a mother, I was working, had a social life, volunteering and lived a regular life. I was laid off from my job in 2010, had been given job opportunities, but nothing that offered the salary that I could make a living with. Like most people who work, I have student loans, and other responsibilities, that don’t disappear when you are unemployed. At that time, I had some savings to rely on while being unemployed and my decision was to accept the right opportunity in my last year in grad school. In 2011, while completing my last year of grad school, I learned I was pregnant (April), graduated from grad school (June), finally was hired (September), and gave birth to my daughter in December.

ter. Looking back, I was under a lot of emotional stress, which I did not realize until after the birth of my daughter. My daughter’s father did not want to be a parent and of course offered to pay for an abortion, however I felt at the age of 35, never ever being pregnant that was not something I was going to do nor entertain. I was going to keep my child and literally prayed to have a healthy girl. I made the decision to keep my child and I realized that my child was not going to have her father around. He did not want to be a part of her life. During this process, I made sure to think and be positive. I lessen my interaction with anyone or anything negative. I always wanted to be a mother however, only if married. I was in no rush to be a parent but, God did have another plan for me. I can honestly say, I got a lot of support from my friends both males and females. What was interesting is that all of my friends were supportive, upset at the situation and said “a real man takes care of his responsibilities” and should be legally obligated to do so. I realized culture played an important role for women in how they viewed who should be a responsible parent, legally obligated for a child and your strength is measured on this scale as well. This was very interesting to me, I was even told by a few women that the father of my daughter should not be legally obligated to be a parent since we were not married and I should not expect much from him” that’s how some men are”. I am sure most single mothers can relate. This journey of parenthood has thought me a lot about support, it’s made me stronger, wiser and made me trust my instincts even more. Overall, I have always been

visit WOMANS-ESSENCE.com

a spiritual person, meaning I learned to listen to my inner voice (God providing insight), when I didn’t it always ended up not good for me, which I learned during this journey. Support can be done in many ways from babysitting or taking the child out, picking up the child from school, taking them to activities, helping with school work, cooking, cleaning, being active in raising a child, being a good listener and helping financially. For me all of the above existed, so I have been very grateful for those who stepped in and supported my daughter. Some women don’t have the support and are placed in tough situations where they have to make tough decisions. I am particular with who I allow to babysit my daughter. Therefore, I do not go out unless my child is with me (other than work). When people ask me “why don’t you go?” I tell them if it is somewhere children cannot be, I will not go. I am not in a financial situation where I can afford to hire a baby sitter, even though I work full time and part time. I am fortunate to have my family, few good friends, who can help me with my daughter, some women don’t have that, so I do feel blessed in more ways than one. This is the reason it is essential to be around positive people who can support you, for some it may mean readjusting your life. Yes, you may have to clean house, change your mentality, surround yourself with people who mean well for you and not people who do not want to see you prosper. I am a firm believer that it does take a village to raise a child, which comes back to finding reliable and positive people. Candida Savice

Qualities of Successful Friendships

T

here’s a lot of discussion about what it means to have awful friendships. And naturally, I agree with all the attention. It is necessary to highlight the terrible effects of bullying, mean girls, and peer pressure to young women everywhere. …But what about healthy friendships? The ones that make you want to dramatically get down on your knees and scream into the heavens, thank-

ing them for bringing such a strange little human into your life? Shouldn’t we focus on those friendships — and make sure they are performing as best as they can?Well that just gave me the warm and fuzzies. Yeah, let’s focus on those! It’s time to make sure our friendships are as healthy as they can be, because these are the relationships that help shape us into the strong and independent women we are today. Here are seven qualities of truly successful friendships. visit WOMANS-ESSENCE.com

1. They laugh at each others jokes Even if they really aren’t that funny.Good friends share the same quirky senses of humor. It’s what helps your bond stay so strong! Plus, laughing at your friend — even when the joke was a bit off key — is still always funny to you. She’s hilarious, you can’t help it! And overall, both of you want each other to be happy — and what’s better than getting a good laugh? 2. They are not competitive Friends don’t size each other up. There’s no racing to achieve the next milestone first, there’s no comparing, and there’s no disappointment when one friend falls behind. Instead, best friends cheer each other on no matter where they are in life. They celebrate when things go really well, and comfort each other when they don’t. There is no twinge of excitement in one if the other trips along the way. They want to be successful together — so they strive to help each other out as much as possible. 3. They value honesty There’s really no beating around the bush with best friends. There’s also no brutal honesty to the point of abuse. Instead, friends share their thoughts and feelings in a kind fashion. They’re sensitive to their buddy’s feelings while explaining their message clearly. If there’s a disagreement, they talk it out in person. They make sure to communicate as openly and honestly as possible, because they know that’s how real friendships last. 4. They stick up for each other

have them — but it’s not cool for anyone else to point them out! Real friends stick up for each other in public, no matter who they’re with. They are each other’s ride or die, and that’s all there is to it. 5. They are invested Best friends have met each other’s families, significant others, and colleagues. They know all about each other’s jobs, and what stresses them out and why. When one tells a story, there is hardly any background information to explain, because the other already knows the context. They are invested. This is what makes these friendships so special – because both parties’ interests are aligned. They’re all in. 6. They normalize each other’s experiences Best friends don’t judge each other. Instead, they validate each other. A best friend doesn’t cringe when the other admits to a reckless mistake or an embarrassing story. That would be kind of rude. And super hurtful. Instead, they make sure their friend knows that whatever they’re going through, it’s OK. They’re not crazy. The world won’t end. It’s normal. 7. They accept each other Quirks and all. Best friends don’t wish their friend would stop doing this or start doing that – they just know that they are who they are, and they accept them completely. Nobody is perfect, and in fact, these girls appreciate each other for their faults. It makes them human. It makes them interesting. Asking their friend to be anyone other than themselves doesn’t even cross their mind.

These friends aren’t the two-faced kind. If anyone Source: www.huffingtonpost.com bashes their friend, they’re ready to roll. Of course they aren’t blind to their bestie’s faults — we all visit WOMANS-ESSENCE.com

Water

Water is healthy and necessary, but sometimes it just gets ... boring. Luckily, foods that are high in water are hydrating, too, and there’s no better time than summer for sweet, fresh fruits and veggies that help you keep your cool. Plus, added bonus: “Fruits and vegetables that contain high water content can add volume to your meals without the calories,” says Angela Ginn, registered dietician and spokeswoman for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. “They keep you satisfied!”

Peaches Peaches are candy from a tree!” says Ginn. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), peaches are 88 percent water. Ginn says peaches are also a good source of vitamin C, vitamin A, niacin, potassium and dietary fiber. Plus, as SELF has reported, the phenolic acids in peaches destroyed estrogen-independent breast cancer cells in one university study (peaches are good for your peaches!). How to eat them: Aside from straight from the tree (or the farmer’s market), Add slices to your breakfast cereal, mix diced peaches in with salsa or broil peaches to serve with dinner or as dessert.

Watermelon Refreshing and sweet, watermelon is packed with ... water! Watermelon is, in fact, 92 percent water, according to the USDA. Rich in vitamin C and the cancer-fighter lycopene, Ginn says watermelon is also great for your skin, and it’ll only cost you 45 calories for one cup. How to eat it: Try this chilled watermelon soup for a low-cal, super hydrating and refreshing dinner option! SELF contributing editors Stephanie Clarke and Willow Jarosh, registered dietitians and co-founders of C&J Nutrition.

Cucumbers Cool and crisp, cucumbers are not only great at treating puffy eyes, but they also contain vitamin K and are rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that lower your risk of heart disease and certain cancers,” says Ginn. USDA puts the water content of cucumbers at 96 percent; Ginn says a cup of cuke slices contains only 20 calories. How to eat them: Eat them straight up for a cool snack, dip them in hummus instead of pita bread or slice them into salad or water for a boost of flavor.

Cabbage Yes, cabbage! Red cabbage is 92 percent H20, according to the USDA. Much like salad greens, Ginn says cabbage is a great low-cal filler to any meal, and SELF’s nutritional data on cabbage shows it’s a very good source of dietary fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K, vitamin B6, folate and manganese, and a good source of other nutrients like calcium and iron.
