He is Rocky, The Tulsa King and Rambo. But at home, he goes by Dad.

“The Family Stallone” premieres exclusively on Paramount+ Wednesday, May 17, offering a peek into the home life of one of this century’s most recognizable action film heroes, Sylvester Stallone. The “Creed II” (2018) star invites viewers into his offscreen antics involving his wife, daughters and Hollywood buds.

If the Expendables franchise of films is any indication, Stallone enjoys sharing the spotlight. With this TV venture, though, he’s not teaming up with sparring partners but instead with some people closer to home. Stallone’s three daughters with his wife, Jennifer Flavin, take center stage in the new reality TV series. The oldest, Sophia, gets the title of “The Heart” of the family in an official trailer for “The Family Stallone,” and while you may assume that the famous surname is a blessing, Sophia admits that it can be a curse at times. She explains: “Dating with the last name that I have is incredibly hard.”

With suitors presumably intimidated by the prospect of pleasing a tough-guy father-in-law, as Sophia puts it, “Being a Stallone, it holds a lot of weight.” But it’s not all about living in her famous father’s shadow, Sophia has also had to overcome some more universal oldest-sister struggles, saying, “Being the oldest, I’ve always had this pressure of being very perfect.”

Middle sister Sistine doesn’t appear to be held back by perfectionism, rather she is motivated to have a good time while the times are good. The star of the 2019 ocean thriller “47 Meters Down: Uncaged” professes in the series trailer that “it doesn’t get much better than this brain-wise, body-wise, looks-wise; we’re at our peak, ladies.”

“The Family Stallone” isn’t the first time Sophia and Sistine have collaborated, as they co-host the podcast “Unwaxed,” in which they discuss wild stories from their lives and interview special guests.

The latest to join the family business is the youngest Stallone, Scarlet. With her first big acting gig under her belt, having landed a role alongside her father on the Paramount+ drama “Tulsa King,” Scarlet is following her childhood dream of making it in Hollywood. “When I was younger, I fell in love with acting,” Scarlet admits over clips from home videos of her earliest performances in the reality series’ trailer.

Flavin shares in the series trailer that “family is everything.” But every couple’s journey together has its fair share of bumps in the road. After celebrating their silver anniversary, marking 25 years as the Flavin-Stallones in 2022, Flavin surprised fans of the famous family when she filed for divorce in August. It ended up being a temporary split after all, and she and Stallone confirmed their reconciliation the following month. For gossips looking for the inside scoop on what exactly went on, “The Family Stone” might answer your queries.

When asked by The Hollywood Reporter in November 2022 whether his and Flavin’s separation would be part of the reality series, Stallone got right to the point, saying, “Of course it’s part of the show.” He added: “Hopefully, you’re involved with people who understand the foibles of life and the fragility of it, and how rare a real good relationship is,” before appearing to take some blame himself for sacrificing family for work.

Getting through a tough year of marriage ups and downs deserves a celebration, and the Flavin-Stallones are no exception. It can’t be a coincidence that the couple’s 26th wedding anniversary just happens to fall on the new series’ premiere day. Warmest wishes!

No home is complete without some furry family members. Stallone shows off his domestic side in the reality show’s trailer, grudgingly grooming the family cat, Mabel, before he displays just how much he loves man’s best friend. There’s shock and horror at the dining table in one trailer clip as Stallone shares a plate of pasta with his dog, Buster. Some unofficial family members also make appearances in “The Family Stallone” with Sly’s past co-stars shooting the breeze with the star in the official trailer. “Hunters” star Al Pacino and Dolph Lundgren (“The Best Man” , 2023) are both featured enjoying time with their pal.

Outside of filmmaking and TV appearances, Stallone is kind of known for his family members, most notably his mother, Jackie, who died in 2020 at the age of 98. Best described as an all-around personality, Jackie was an astrologer and wrestling promoter and made fairly regular TV appearances as herself. Stallone’s brother Frank is an actor and musician who was nominated for a Grammy for the score of 1983’s “Staying Alive,” in which he also had an on-screen role.

Gorman a star on the rise in St. Louis

In the category of young players to watch out for in 2023, we present for your consideration Nolan Gorman.

Indeed, in their 23-year-old second baseman/designated hitter, the St. Louis Cardinals look like they have a bona fide power bat to serve as a lefty-swinging complement to their slugging righty superstars Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado.

Through 19 April games, the Phoenix native was hitting .316 with five home runs, 16 RBIs, an on-base percentage of .403 and an OPS of 1.052. His season highlight so far came on April 19, when he came off the bench to pinch-hit a grand slam homer at Busch Stadium in the Cards’ 14-5 rout of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

At 6 feet 1 inch and 210 pounds, Gorman has the size and powerful lefty swing that any team would love in a young slugger. And this season, he’s improved on his tendencies to chase balls out of the strike zone, resulting in an increase in his walk rate (13.4 percent in 2023 versus 9 percent in his rookie campaign last year) and a decrease in his strikeout rate (23.9 percent versus 32.9 percent). Of course, all this comes with the caveat that “it’s still early” and his numbers will certainly come back to earth. But at this point, Gorman appears to be a player with a bright future ahead of him. Gorman and the Cardinals can be seen on national TV Sunday May 14, when they close out a threegame series against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park in a contest airing on ESPN.

Why Ryan Seacrest left ‘Live’ on tape

Q: Why did it say that Ryan Seacrest’s last “Live With Kelly and Ryan” episode was recorded earlier, when the show is supposed to be live? – Judy Marks, Reading, Pa.

A: Given the occasion that Seacrest’s sign-off was, the show’s staff likely wanted extra time to get things right and as gaffe-free as possible. It also was a way to ensure that everything got in without the show running over its allotted hour, which couldn’t occur with a syndicated program being sent to many local stations across the country.

That overrun would have been easy to happen, given all the clips shown from Seacrest’s tenure on the program ... plus his wanting to address family members who were in that day’s audience, plus the presence of First Lady Dr. Jill Biden as a guest, plus the presentation of a celebratory cake to Seacrest by his successor Mark Consuelos (co-host Kelly Ripa’s husband).

Q: Wasn’t Sylvester Stallone on “This Is Us”? – Jo Cooper, Columbus, Ohio

A: He was, playing himself in a war movie – directed by Ron Howard, within the context of that story – that Kevin (Justin Hartley) landed a role in. ‘Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory’ still enchants

If you know the movie significance of having a golden ticket, you’re likely a member of one of the generations that have embraced “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” over the years. Freeform shows the fanciful 1971 musical-fantasy Tuesday, May 16, with Gene Wilder in one of his most memorable roles as the intriguing proprietor of a literal candy land to which young Charlie (Peter Ostrum) and his grandfather (Jack Albertson) are among those granted rare entry.

Hollywood has revisited the Roald Dahl story since, but there’s a special magic to the original film that’s hard to recapture. A big part of that is the wonderful Leslie Bricusse-Anthony Newley song contribution that includes “The Candy Man,” which became a huge and enduring hit for Sammy Davis Jr. (who wanted to be a physical presence in the picture, but its makers resisted using such an icon who might break the fantasy for viewers).

Food Network celebrates Mother’s Day with recipes for Mom and the family

As she’s being served breakfast in bed this Sunday, Mom will have a full morning’s worth of Mother’s Day-related culinary programming to take in on Food Network.

The May 14 lineup kicks off bright and early with “Girl Meets Farm,” which finds host Molly Yeh celebrating Mother’s Day with a tea party and a menu of rose cupcake cones, savory hot dog flower buns, ham and cheese sandwiches on sour cream and chive scones and fairy toast with marzipan butter and homemade sprinkles.

Then on “Valerie’s Home Cooking,” Ms. Bertinelli practices a little self-care for Mother’s Day by inviting over friend and actress Angela Kinsey (“The Office”) for a decadent meal of roasted cod with cashew coconut lime topping, tangy quick collards and a tomato and cucumber salad with cumin vinaigrette. And for dessert, she serves up a citrus upside-down cake. We’re still waiting for our invitation.

A little later on “The Pioneer Woman,” Ree Drummond is enjoying a little pampering. While she’s out for the afternoon, the boys are in the kitchen preparing filet steaks with shrimp peppercorn sauce, along with ranchstyle oven potatoes and roasted asparagus. But she’s not out of the kitchen entirely as

she makes an Italian chicken soup and some homemade cherry pie. Yum!

Then immediately following, Drummond is back to share some ideas for a special lunch just for Mom. In this case, it starts with grilled chicken lettuce wraps with Italian-style filling, accompanied by a colorful grain salad. For dessert, she makes dark chocolate espresso sundaes, washed down with blood orange and basil wine spritzers.

At midday, Kardea Brown hosts a Mother’s Day lunch for some childhood best friends on “Delicious Miss Brown.” On the menu is a scalloped potato-stuffed chicken with a sugar snap pea Salad with roasted grapes. Then for dessert, lemon meringue pie with shortbread cookie crust. And let’s not forget the strawberry rose daiquiri, a frozen cocktail made from sparkling rose, rum and strawberries.

And in the afternoon, head to “The Kitchen,” where the chefs are celebrating their mothers with recipes inspired by them. So for Geoffrey Zakarian, that means making savory lamb sliders with a rose elderflower sangria. Meanwhile, Jeff Mauro prepares a shrimp and pea pasta, Alex Guarnaschelli skews up her fresh griddled flatbread and Katie Lee Biegel shares her grandmother’s award-winning angel food cake recipe.

Carol Brady (Florence Henderson, “The Brady Bunch”): years and many variations on the original show, this was the “lovely lady who was bringing up three very lovely girls.”

Caroline Ingalls (Karen Grassle, “Little House on the Prairie”): example of a home-screen mom who did her duty in much simpler times.

Peg Bundy (Katey Sagal, “Married ... With Children”): this bawdy lady would lay everything on the line –and often did – for the wellbeing of her family.

Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen, “Modern Family”): Youthful in her approach to being both friend and mom, this woman also believed in the traditions of family.

June Cleaver (Barbara Billingsley, “Leave It to Beaver”): This mother commendably kept her cool in the face of the frequently precocious antics of youngest son Theodore ... or “Beaver” (Jerry Mathers).

Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham, “Gilmore Girls”): demonstrably hip mom and her very wise daughter Rory (Alexis Bledel) will keep their shoes a favorite for generations to come.
