OUR INNER

C MPASS Universities have been discovering the mental health up side of puppies. Several universities are now providing puppy rooms for stressed students. Puppy rooms are lounges where a stressed out student can go and play with a happy dog. The experience reduces stress. A good dog is good therapy because a good dog is a good friend.

Where EVERYONE Is Welcome!! SUNDAY SERVICE 10 AM April 28, 2013

Friendship has been changing in recent decades. Friendships tend to be shallower, more disposable and friendship circles have been shrinking dramatically. The breakdown of the family, urbanization, the personalization of entertainment and the social media has radically impacted the nature of our friendships. We need some puppy rooms in our neighborhoods.

MESSAGE Rev. Ted Boodle

Animals humanize us when we allow them to be our friends. A happy puppy can break through to a troubled child in ways a counselor can’t. A purring cat can calm our frayed nerves.

HEAD USHER Ernie Plett

Our pets are often models of what we ought to be: unconditionally loving, utterly accepting, calm, loyal and confidential. A pet will never betray our secrets or our trust. We could and should learn the secrets of friendship from our pets.

GREETERS Karl Hibbs Gerry Spielmacher Mary Ann Spielmacher Dave Stoddart Mehlin Yoo Taius Yoo

Unfortunately we are learning negative lessons from the culture around us. Perhaps absorbing would be a better word. We absorb preoccupation that shoves family time to the curb. We absorb fear that shuts us off from vulnerability. We absorb negativity and cynicism that cannibalizes our sensitivity. We absorb the celebrity worship of our culture that lionizes people who are unworthy of emulation. Many people have nothing to compare their experience to . They have never know healthy friendships. The first step in recovery is admitting we have a problem. Perhaps some reflection on the friendship example of our pets would be a good starting point. Jesus Christ will make us better friends. our pets can be his learning assistants.
