STRANGE STORIES IN THE NEWS DAWN OF THE NEW MILLENNIA

told CBC. ‘You’re spaced out.’ But Nadeau said he was not concerned during the ordeal. ‘Being in a trance is a state of well-being,’ he said. ‘I wasn’t stressed. I knew they would get out of it.’

Hypnotist Unable to Free Girls From Hypnotic Trance Girls at a private school in Canada were locked into a trance for several hours after a trainee hypnotherapist could not snap them out of it. Maxime Nadeau, 20, hypnotized a group of 12 to 13-year-old students at College du SacreCoeur in Sherbooke, Quebec, for an end of year show last week. But five students – most of whom were merely watching in the audience – got more than they bargained for when they remained in ‘mass hypnosis’ and could not be roused. One student was locked into the trance for five hours, forcing the trainee hypnotist to call his mentor, Richard Whitbread, for an emergency intervention. ‘There were a couple of students who had their heads lying on the table and there were [others] who, you could tell, were in trance,’ Whitbread told CBC. ‘The eyes were open and there was nobody home.’ After travelling for one hour, Whitbread used a stern voice to awaken the girls, blaming his trainee’s good looks for the students’ hypnotic states. According to the Canadian Press, thirteen students also reported suffering from headaches or nausea after the incident. One student who was in the audience said it felt like an out-ofbody experience. ‘I don’t know how to explain it. It’s like you’re no longer there,’ Émilie Bertrand

School principal Daniel Leveille said students affected by the show are being monitored after he found out that hypnosis is not recommended for children under the age of 14, as they are deemed especially susceptible. ‘This incident raises questions about our practices, which we wish to discuss to ensure similar events don’t occur again,’ Leveille said in a statement. ‘We also wish to gather all relevant information before talking to the media about this unfortunate event which, fortunately, did not leave any consequences.’ According to the International Association of Pure Hypnoanalysts, hypnosis is simply a state of relaxation in which persons remain completely awake and susceptible to suggestions. Persons may “feel very heavy, relaxed, lethargic or quite light and tingly.” However, while this technique can be used to “modify your perceptions [and] behavior,” persons remain completely in control of their actions, the Mayo Clinic notes. A post featured on the Alchemy Institute of Hypnosis website points out that some forms of hypnosis are much more common than some might think and that they’re often used by advertisers to sway customers into buying their products. A mob of Leprechauns are car-

rying out vicious attacks in and around the city of Seattle, according to a man who claims to be one of their latest victims. The pint-sized brutes were allegedly hopping mad after catching the man dancing with the wrong girl at a Belltown bar. Officers arrived at the scene of a bar fight to find the man covered in blood and screaming in pain with his head held in his hands. When officers asked who had attacked him, the man replied: ‘It was a bunch of leprechauns.’ According to the victim the one of his assailants was wearing a white tank top. There were no additional reports of merry jigs turning ugly or stolen pots of gold. The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center with multiple head injuries and cuts and bruises on his face, back, knuckles and elbows. Police were apparently unable to find the leprechauns or anyone else involved in the attack Earlier this month the Center for Disease Control and Prevention released a statement saying that there is no cause to fear the walking dead following several incidents involving cannibalism thatset the internet aflutter with rumours of an impending ‘Zombie Apocalypse’. ‘CDC does not know of a virus or condition that would reanimate the dead, agency spokesman David Daigle told the Huffington Post.’ This is not the first time the CDC has addressed zombies. In the past, the government agency has released several tongue-in-cheek warnings about the undead. Farmer Blames Heat Rays for Cows’ Deaths RCMP officer assured Werner Bock that aliens are not flying over his farm.

A cattle farmer from the Petitcodiac area is facing a charge for failing to give his cows adequate medical attention but he argues there is a conspiracy against him that involves heat rays harming his animals. Werner Bock is charged with failing to give his cows adequate medical attention but he told a Moncton provincial court on Monday that someone is after him and his animals. Bock accuses the RCMP and veterinarians of ignoring what’s happening on his eastern New Brunswick farm.

He said he’s lost up to 200 animals in the last 10 years and he’s posted a video on the internet where he claims to expose the mystery. The farmer says heat rays are to blame for his cows’ deaths. Bock goes on to say the authorities are refusing to take him seriously about the heat rays.

“This was covered up by the veterinarians and then it was covered up by the RCMP,” he said in a video. The video also shows pictures of thin cows that are losing their hair. In a pre-trial meeting on Monday, Bock tried to subpoena three provincial veterinarians and three RCMP officers to testify. Provincial Court Judge Jolene Richard noted two of the individuals will already be testifying. But they will be testifying against Bock as witnesses for the prosecution. As for the others, the judge said she wasn’t sure how relevant they would be to the trial. Bock wants to call a veterinarian who found no evidence of burns on his cows. He also wants to call a police officer he says assured him there were no aliens flying over his farm. The trial will be held in September.

Vatican Publishes Guide on how to Deal with ‘Supernatural Phenomena’ apparitions, revelations, messages or, more generally, extraordinary phenomena of presumed supernatural origin,” Cardinal William Levada, the American prefect of the CDF, wrote in a preface.

Vatican Publishes Guide on how to Deal with ‘Supernatural Phenomena’

in 1978 under Pope Paul VI and were intended for strictly internal use.

They have been closely guarded for more than 30 years, but guidelines on how to deal with divine apparitions of the Virgin Mary and “supernatural phenomena” have now been released by the Vatican.

They shed light on the sorts of apparitions which have inspired the establishment of shrines such as those at Lourdes in France and Fatima in Portugal, which attract millions of pilgrims a year, many in search of cures for illnesses or other “miracles”.

The “norms” on how the Roman Catholic Church should deal with mystical apparitions were initially drawn up in Latin

Page 6 weirdmagazine.com

The guidelines are intended to help bishops “in their difficult task of discerning presumed

Deciding whether a spiritual revelation is genuine or not is based on its “orientation to Christ Himself,” Cardinal Levada wrote. “If it leads us away from Him, then it certainly does not come from the Holy Spirit.” Determining whether a spiritual revelation is authentic or not is the responsibility of the local bishop, the Vatican said. He is required to set up a special panel of theologians, psychologists and doctors to judge the “psychological equilibrium and rectitude of moral life” of the person or people reporting the apparition and whether it corresponds with Church doctrine. The bishop should try to “discern quickly” the authenticity of an apparition, although his judgment could be impeded by “critical scientific investiga-

tion”, the Vatican said. A revelation would be dismissed if there was evidence that the person who had witnessed it was mentally unsound, whether the vision was the product of “collective hysteria” or if there was a suspicion that the whole thing was a fraud concocted for profit. If the bishop cannot make a decision, the judgment can ultimately be referred to the Pope himself. The Vatican decided to make the guidelines public, and to translate them into five languages, including English, because elements had leaked out into the public domain over the years. They have been published by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF), the powerful Vatican department which was headed by Benedict before he was elected Pope in 2005. The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith is currently investigating claims that a group of six Catholic children began

to see apparitions of the Virgin Mary in the town of Medjugorje in Bosnia-Herzegovina, starting in 1981. The apparition claims have been judged groundless by a local bishop, but that has not stopped an estimated 30 million believers from visiting the pilgrimage site. Lourdes, in the foothills of the Pyrenees, became a shrine after apparitions of the Virgin Mary were witnessed by a shepherd girl, Bernadette Soubirous, in 1858. The publication of the guidelines may provide temporary distraction from one of the worst crises of Benedict XVI’s seven-year papacy – the leaking of confidential documents and the arrest of his personal butler, amid claims of vicious faction fighting within the Holy See. Whistleblower Reveals Plan To Evacuate London During Olympics ists could just walk straight into the event with ammunition or explosives and have an excellent chance of remaining undetected. “In fact, I was asked to be a would-be terrorist on the final training day and I was given a knife, a gun and an IED, and on all three occasions throughout the day I got through the metal detector and I also got through the x-ray machine scanner,” said Hazledean, adding that terrorists could quite easily stage a “massacre” given the lax nature of the security.

Whistleblower Reveals Plan To Evacuate London During Olympics 200,000 casket linings on standby says undercover journalist who infiltrated security team Paul Joseph Watson Infowars.com An undercover journalist going by the pseudonym ‘Lee Hazledean’ has blown the whistle on astounding revelations about how he infiltrated the G4S – the company responsible for security at the London Olympics – and discovered shocking plans for the evacuation of London, 200,000 ‘casket linings’ being on standby, along with botched security procedures that leave the Games wide open to attack. Hazledean’s interview with Tony Gosling, Bilderberg.org editor and host of BCFM’s Friday Drivetime, has gone viral on the web over the last few days. Hazledean is an undercover journalist for a television program in London and has worked with news agencies on hard-hitting subjects, but when he approached the mainstream media

Page 8 weirdmagazine.com

with his bombshell story, they showed no interest. When Hazledean asked Channel 4 News Home Affairs Correspondent Andy Davies if he would run the story, Davies said he wasn’t interested and days later Channel 4 ran a puff piece about G4S which portrayed the organization as competent and trustworthy. “I sent him an email, I called, he wasn’t interested and he said there’s a media blackout on this kind of story, that nobody would be interested in running it,” said Hazledean. In the interview, Hazledean divulges how he merely had to fill in an application form to get a job with G4S, the private company providing security for the Olympics, that he underwent no background check whatsoever, and that his personal references were not checked. Employees are given just two days of training to run airportstyle security checkpoints which include body scanners, which Hazledean said “would be turned off completely” at peak times, meaning terror-

“They’re not training them properly…it’s quite open to a terrorist attack very easily and I don’t say that lightly,” said Hazledean, adding that he witnessed G4S members doing drug deals while training classes were taking place, while others were taking surveillance photos on their cellphones of supposedly secure areas. Hazledean said a lot of the security staff were poorly qualified and that many of them could barely speak English. Hazledean also revealed how the large contingent of soldiers being brought into London for the Olympic Games included “a lot of UN troops being posted in and around London,” including American and German troops.

The whistleblower also revealed how unauthorized personnel were being handed G4S uniforms and that uniforms had been stolen. Hazledean’s most chilling revelation was how he learned about preparations to evacuate London and how, “The security guards used for the Olympics will be at the forefront of getting the public out of London.” “They seem quite serious about it, they’ve spent a lot of time on this,” said Hazledean, noting how G4S spent two hours talk-

ing about the evacuation of London in comparison to just half an hour talking about security screening procedures for the Olympics itself. The whistleblower also noted how the 100,000 plus troops that would be stationed in London during the Olympics would be enough to carry out such a large scale evacuation. Another chilling facet Hazledean learned was that 200,000 casket linings (temporary coffins) were being shipped in to London that can hold four bodies each. The whistleblower expressed his amazement at why security guards working on mundane screening procedures would need to be told such information. The whistleblower also revealed how he was told Predator drones would be circling London in readiness for terrorist attacks, and that G4S employees were shown a video of a drone killing a group of people in Afghanistan. Hazledean noted how G4S leaders saw the public as “the scum of the earth” and also told their employees that the police had no authority over them. He also

related how one of the leaders told him that an event after the Olympics would be a “defining moment” for London but when pressed, refused to divulge what she meant. Hazledean is not the first to blow the whistle on G4S. Earlier this month, data input clerk Sarah Hubble revealed that she was fired by G4S after complaining that G4S was cutting corners in their security preparations for the Olympics and that she herself had not been vetted. Speaking with Infowars, Hazledean said that he had been making contingency plans for if his life was put in danger or if he became a target for the authorities in any other way after blowing the whistle on the scandal. Asked about a meme circulating the web that conspiracy theories about a false flag attack occurring at the London Olympics are being deliberately allowed to proliferate in order to make ‘truthers’ look paranoid after nothing happens, Hazledean stressed that merely getting the story out was necessary as it could derail any planned attack.

Mental Armageddon: UFOs, The CIA and Sex Slaves By Tim R. Swartz

Mental Armageddon: UFOs, The CIA and Sex Slaves By Tim R. Swartz Anyone who has studied the UFO mystery for any amount of time will quickly confirm that mind control plays a disproportionate role in this phenomenon. Someone is behind the scenes and pulling the strings of witnesses and abductees alike. What you see is not always what you get in UFOlogy as becomes obvious rather rapidly. Many of those who have experienced sightings and close encounters will confess that they are being “toyed with.” For example, in the case of the UFO landing outside of the Bentwaters NATO base in the UK, something totally “alien” was at play behind the scenes in the forest for several days in a row. There might have been extraterrestrials roaming around but the worse enemy for all those involved were the shad-

owy figures behind this psyops operation. Larry Warren says he was taken to an underground base under Bentwaters and apparently was drugged into believing ETs were right there in the next room starring him down while he was debriefed. And what about Paul Bennewitz and the Underground base at Dulce? He was spooked every which way but loose after apparently photographing mysterious unknown objects going into the mountains on this isolated Native American reservation in Arizona. Infamous UFO “researcher” Bill Moore working for the “powers that be” helped push Bennewitz over the edge when he revealed that he had received mysterious radio signals comingfrom inside what was supposed to be a “secured area” of Kirkland Air Force base in New Mexico. It has been used by shadowy branches of the military including the CIA fordecades. We know they were spraying the

subway systems in New York City with hallucinogens and sending scientists and other human guinea pigsover the edge by feeding them psychedelics without their knowledge. Several found these pharmacological agents so distressing that they jumped to their death. But it goes well beyond such seamy transactions into a bizarre word of human trafficking that is enough to blow anyone’s mind. And while it may seem at first that such things just could not happen in any civilized country, the facts speak differently. It is said that an army marches on its stomach; if you use this same type of analogy for the intelligence branches, you might say that the CIA marches on sexual perversion. This is according to Tracy R. Twyman in her shocking book “Mind Controlled Sex Slaves and the CIA.” Twyman asks questions such as what do Satanism, human trafficking, mind-control experiments and child sex abuse have to do with the U.S. government? According to the testimony of experts and survivors, the CIA used all of these elements and more for their top secret Project MONARCH, part of the MK-ULTRA mind control program. For reasons of National Security, dozens if not hundreds of people, many of them children, were allegedly subjected to unimaginable rape, torture, and bloody satanic rituals, with the aim of fracturing the human mind through trauma. This created multiple personalities that could then be programmed to perform specific tasks such as espionage, assassinations, and even sexual favors with none of the moral compulsions that most people live with day by day. Many of the purported victims say they were used to satisfy the sexual urges of the rich and powerful, even U.S. Presidents. For these purposes, the CIA is said to have sought help from intergenerational satanic cults, as well as child pornography and snuff film networks. As thousands of people were

Page 10 weirdmagazine.com

bought and sold on the underground sex slave market, our government supposedly looked the other way, seeing it not as an atrocity but an opportunity. Twyman effectively brings together a number of different first-hand experiences, viewpoints and opinions to put forth her case that the CIA (and probably other intelligence groups worldwide) has used mind control techniques involving sexual, mental and physical abuse to create brainwashed operatives who were ready to do the bidding of their masters at a moments notice. This all may sound too horrific to be true, but Twyman interviews such notables as Cathy O’Brien, Mark Phillips, John DeCamp, Ted Gunderson, Noreen Gosch, and Pamela Freyd, and one is left with the sobering conclusion that somewhere along the line, the U.S. sold its soul to the devil, along with hundreds, if not thousands of our innocent children; all in the name of National Security. In 1977, a Senate subcommittee on Health and Scientific Research, chaired by Senator Ted Kennedy, focused on the CIA’s secret testing of LSD on unwitting citizens. Only a mere handful of people within the CIA knew about the scope and details of the program. Through the testimony of a Dr. Sidney Gottlieb, the Kennedy subcommittee learned about the CIA’s top-secret Operation MK-ULTRA. The purpose of the program, according to his testimony, was to “investigate whether and how it was possible to modify an individual’s behavior by covert means.” Claiming the protection of the National Security Act, Dr. Gottlieb was unwilling to tell the Senate subcommittee what had been learned by these experiments. He did state, however, that the program was initially started by a concern that the Soviets and other enemies of the United States would get ahead of the U.S. in this field. Through the Freedom of Information Act, researchers were able to obtain docu-

ments detailing the MK-ULTRA program and other CIA behavior modification projects. In 1953, CIA director Allen Dulles, speaking before a national meeting of Princeton alumni, distinguished two fronts in the then-current “battle for men’s minds;” a “first front” of mass indoctrination through censorship and propaganda, and a “second front” of individual “brainwashing” and “brain changing.” The same year, at CIA deputy director Richard Helm’s suggestion, Dulles approved the MK-ULTRA project, and exempted it from normal CIA financial controls in order to hide it from the normal congressional checks and balances. MK-ULTRA had grown out of an earlier secret program known as Bluebird that had been created to counter Soviet advances in brainwashing. In reality the CIA had other objectives. An earlier aim was to study methods in which control of an individual could be attained. As well, the CIA was also interested in being able to manipulate foreign leaders with such techniques. The emphasis of experimentation was “narcohypnosis,” the blending of mind-altering drugs with careful hypnotic programming. Eventually project Bluebird was later renamed Project Artichoke. Artichoke was an offensive program of mind control that gathered the intelligence divisions of the Army, Navy, Air Force and FBI. The scope of the project was outlined in a memorandum dated January, 1952 that asked: “Can we get control of an individual to the point where he will do our bidding against his will and even against fundamental laws of nature such as self preservation?” continues next page . . . .

Mental Armageddon: UFOs, The CIA and Sex Slaves Mental Armageddon: UFOs, The CIA and Sex Slaves By Tim R. Swartz A special CIA team was formed and their task was to test the new interrogation techniques, and ensure that victims would not remember being interrogated and programmed. All manner of narcotics, from marijuana to LSD, heroin and sodium pentothal were regularly used. When it was formed in 1947, the CIA was forbidden to have any domestic police or internal security powers and was authorized only to operate overseas. Nevertheless, from the very beginning, MK-ULTRA staff broke this Congressional rule and began testing on unsuspecting U.S. citizens. Reviewing the experiments in 1958, one CIA auditor wrote, “Precautions must be taken not only to protect operations from exposure to enemy forces but also to conceal these activities from the American public in general. The knowledge that the agency is engaging in unethical and illicit activities would have serious repercussions in political and diplomatic circles.” Precisely how extensive illegal testing became will never be known. Shortly before leaving office in 1973, CIA Director and chief architect of the program Richard Helms ordered the destruction of all MK-ULTRA records. Despite these precautions, some documents were misfiled and came to light in the late 1970’s. The most notorious MK-ULTRA experiments were the CIA’s pioneering studies of the drug lysergic acid diethylamide, or LSD. The CIA was intrigued by LSD, and had hopes that it, or a similar drug, could be used to clandestinely disorient and manipulate targeted foreign leaders. One secret drug project that took place in the early 1960’s was run by Dr. Harris Isabel, Director of the Public Service Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky – a facility specializing in drug abuse. Under funding by the CIA, Dr. Isabel began experimenting on African-American inmates by feeding his subjects large doses of LSD, mescaline, marijuana, scopolamine and other substances on a daily basis. Brought before the Senate subcommittees in 1975, Isabel saw no contradiction in providing

Page 11 weirdmagazine.com

hard drugs to the very addicts he was employed to cure. Word got out that the CIA had been using innocent citizens to test their drugs and in order to avoid further bad publicity the CIA announced it had ceased its mind manipulation programs. However, scientists working for the agency secretly continued the experiments. One researcher was Dr. Ewen Cameron, working at McGill University in Montreal. Dr. Cameron used a variety of experimental techniques, including using drugs to keep subjects unconscious for months at a time, administering huge electroshocks and continual doses of LSD. Many of the subjects who suffered trauma had never agreed to participate in the experiments. It has been reported that enough LSD was manufactured during this period to dose every citizen in the United States at least a dozen times. No one knows for sure if all the LSD was used strictly for experiments or if it was also used on so-called social troublemakers and other political dissidents. It has been alleged that LSD and other drugs were secretly released into the general community by the CIA in the 1960’s to destabilize the growing anti-war movement on college campuses. Under scrutiny, the agency was quick to downplay the success of MKULTRA - claiming no real advances were achieved. Miles Copeland, a long-serving CIA officer disputed this. Speaking to a reporter, Copeland revealed that “the congressional subcommittee which went into this sort of thing only got the barest glimpse of what was really going on.” PROJECT MONARCH The story that the CIA used children as sex slaves has been circulating underground for a number of years. An October 1977 NBC news segment called: “The Children and the CIA,” revealed that the CIA had brought a group of children together for observation at a number of summer camps for possible later recruitment and to watch their behavior. The counselors were not told that the camp was being financed by the CIA, and the agency used a front organization called the Society for the Investigation of Human Ecology. Interestingly, this was the same group that paid Dr. Ewen Cameron for his Canadian

mind-blanking experiments in the 1960s. It is not difficult to surmise just exactly why the CIA was so interested in these children in the first place. The name Project MONARCH first surfaced in 1991 when a woman named Cathy O’Brien began talking about her years of sexual abuse at the hands of the CIA and various other famous politicians and even popular entertainers. O’Brien says that on February 8th, 1988, she was covertly rescued from her mind control enslavement by Mark Phillips, an electronics subcontractor for the Department of Defense. The MONARCH program was a U.S. Department of Defense code name for a subsection of the CIA’s Operation Artichoke, which was part of MK-ULTRA. However, this technical definition is misleading because the MONARCH programming was also utilized under various names such as Marionette programming and was originally conceived by the Nazis’ during WW II. MONARCH may have culminated from MK-ULTRA subprojects, such as operation SPELLBINDER, which was set up to create “sleeper” assassins (i e. “Manchurian candidates”) who could be activated upon receiving a key word or phrase while in a post-hypnotic trance. Operation OFTEN, a study which attempted to harness the power of occult forces was possibly one of several cover programs to hide the reality of Project MONARCH. The basic component of the MONARCH program is the sophisticated manipulation of a child’s mind to protect itself from extreme trauma by creating Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD). The most inhumane severe torture, especially sexual abuse, is used on children to create a fractured and easily manipulated mind. Then the various alters (personalities) are found and programmed using state of the art mind control. The point that Twyman, and the people she has interviewed are trying to make, is that the CIA is using sexually abused and mind controlled children to do their dirty work. And it is dirty work. It is the sickest, most revolting secret government project that has ever been conceived in the minds of inhuman monsters. Even more disturbing is that these mind controlled children (and adults) are also being used to satisfy the sick, sexual cravings of the worlds most powerful and influential men and women. Project Monarch may have

been originally developed for espionage purposes against the Soviet Union, but it quickly degenerated into a child sex slave operation. This was done in order to have at ready a cadre of unresisting victims who were instructed in the age-old techniques of sexual arousal and pleasure. For in reality, it is not money that makes the world go around, it is sex. THE SECRET ORDER OF SATANISTS One of the consistencies that run through almost all of the personal testimonies of the self-proclaimed MONARCH victims is the use of the occult and Satanism as a “trauma base.” Cathy O’Brien vividly describes the “Rite to Remain Silent” she claims she endured at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Muskegon, a reversal of the Catholic mass in which she was allegedly doused in the blood of a freshly-slaughtered lamb and made to take an oath of secrecy. She also claims to have witnessed human sacrifices at Bohemian Grove retreat, an exclusive retreat for global movers and shakers, who meet on a private island every year in secret. They dress up in bizarre costumes and indulge in their most extreme perversions with mind-controlled “Stepford Whores,” much like scenes from the Stanley Kubrick film Eyes Wide Shut. Brice Taylor, who claims to have also been a Presidential Model Slave, says that she experienced similar rituals throughout her abuse, including those involving human sacrifices, anti-Christian night services at Christian churches, being buried alive in a coffin, and being hung upon a cross. Former FBI agent Ted Gunderson believes wholeheartedly that the Satanic cult movement dovetails with U.S. intelligence, and in addition to being involved in child kidnapping, they were taking kids out of Boy’s Town, and out of foster homes and orphanages, and flying them to Washington, D.C. for sex orgy parties with congressmen and senators. It is not known whether or not those involved in these nefarious activities actually believe in Satanism, or if they are only using it as both a technique to victimize and fracture an innocent personality, and to attract those in power who have perverted tendencies and are looking for new and different ways to satisfy their sick cravings. Looking at the big picture, it really does not seem to matter one way or another. The use

of occult rituals to obtain a desired result, the creation of a “robot” personality is just one of many techniques that have been developed over the decades to create mind controlled slaves. Tracy Twyman ends her book by relating her own experiences as a teenager when she was accused of being involved in satanic activities by a family of a friend. The accusations got so bad that the local police were tapping her phone looking for evidence and eventually Twyman’s family were apparently forced to move. The point she is trying to make is that it is easy to get wrapped up in the hysteria to such an extent that it appears that Satanists and secret pedophile rings are hiding behind every tree. However, Twyman also says that just because there have been many, many cases of false accusations and just plain old stupidity; there is still credible evidence that secret operations such as Project MONARCH do actually exist.

Many researchers think that stories of Satanic Ritual Abuse are urban legends, so perhaps the false reports and Christian hysteria of satanic child molesters have played right into the hands of the actual perpetrators of Project MONARCH and the mind controlled sex slaves. What better way to hide something so profoundly disgusting than to have it associated with fringe elements and wild-eyed believers who go about knocking down the doors of day-care centers seeking evidence of devil worship and organized child-molesting rings. Twyman does an excellent job of bringing together the many and diverse threads to weave her tapestry of evidence for the reality of government sponsored mind control and sexual perversities. Even though many people will quickly dismiss this evidence as simply too revolting to be true, we know for a fact that history is full of similar cases where the innocent became the unwitting pawns of governments and the ruling elite. Mind Controlled Sex Slaves and the CIA will open ones eyes to the fact that the world we live in has its dark, forbidding corners, where the stuff of nightmares live to prey on our sanity and to feast off of that which we hold the most precious.

Media Dismisses Warning About Tyranny and Troops on the Street as Kooky Conspiracy By Kurt Nimmo ory Media Dismisses Warning About Tyranny and Troops on the Street as Kooky Conspiracy Theory

Garrison, who writes for the River Front Times, neglected to note that Welles’ drama was pure fiction, whereas the troops on the streets of St. Louis are real. In addition to lambasting Zero Hedge and other sites covering the deployment, Garrison singled out Alex Jones who he sarcastically states produced the video below “from a basement bunker.”

Kurt Nimmo Infowars.com Chad Garrison‘s critique of the news that the Army is driving military vehicles through the streets of St. Louis, Missouri, is typical of the media response to this outrageous event – a local television station’s coverage “really ignited the crazies” in the same way Orson Welles’ War of World radio broadcast did in 1938, Garrison chides.

Page 12 weirdmagazine.com

Mr. Garrison’s inability to understand the significance of troops on the streets is sadly normal behavior on the part of the establishment media (and much of the alternative media, as the River Front Times is billed as a St. Louis “alternative”). In fact, we note today, many residents in St. Louis are praising troops on the streets. According to a Fox 2 St. Louis report, “people who live and work in the area think the army training is a good idea. Abhorrence to standing armies is spelled out in the Declaration of Independence, a document

many Americans unfortunately do not know and would not understand if they bothered to read it. “A standing military force, with an overgrown Executive will not long be safe companions to liberty,” James Madison warned during a speech delivered at the Constitutional Convention in 1878. “The means of defense against foreign danger, have been always the instruments of tyranny at home. Among the Romans it was a standing maxim to excite a war, whenever a revolt was apprehended. Throughout all Europe, the armies kept up under the pretext of defending, have enslaved the people.” In a letter to Madison penned in 1787, Thomas Jefferson

lamented the fact that the Bill of Rights does not include a restriction on standing armies. “The following [addition to the Bill of Rights] would have pleased me,” he wrote. “All troops of the United States shall stand ipso facto disbanded at the expiration of the term for which their pay and subsistence shall have been last voted by Congress.” “The spirit of this country is totally adverse to a large military force,” he wrote to Chandler Price in 1807.

The “training” conducted in St. Louis is yet another example of the state conditioning us to the presence of a standing army in our midst. It has little to do with al-Qaeda or phantom terrorists. It is, as Madison noted, an instrument of tyranny designed to enslave the people. For more on this, see Chuck Baldwin’s post breaking down the threat to liberty posed by standing armies.

NATGEO TO LAUNCH NEW SHOW: CHASING UFOS No stranger to investigating physical phenomena, Ben has drilled through arctic glaciers, chased dust devils with Mars researchers, scoured radioactive craters, probed aquifers thousands of feet beneath desert basins and aimed mountaintop observatories at alien volcanoes. His passion for collecting diverse types of physical data in extreme environments makes him the perfect complement to the Chasing UFOs team.

National Geographic launches new show about chasing UFOs. A team of trained investigators sets out to uncover the truth about UFOs. But they’re not just looking for more stories on extraterrestrial activity—they want answers. Risking it all, this team of scientists and UFO researchers investigate and dissect some of the most mysterious sightings on the planet to unearth stunning new evidence. The data they collect on these adventures paints an entirely new picture of what we know about these strange lights in the sky. Ben McGee, Physical Scientist THE SKEPTIC To assess the validity of strange lights in the sky, reports of

unusual animal mutilations or unknown objects found at an alleged alien spaceship crash site, Chasing UFOs had to look no farther than Ben McGee. A space-minded geoscientist, Ben is engaged in the development of xenoarchaeology - a speculative form of archaeology exploring possible alien life and culture. Ben is a true skeptic by nature, and as Chasing UFOs’ resident scientist, he brings a wealth of diverse academic and scientific know-how to the team. A respected field researcher with experience in nuclear rocketry, planetary geology, hydrology and glaciology, Ben’s job is to gather evidence at proposed sites of unexplained occurrences and scientifically determine its origin.

Despite having his feet firmly planted on the ground, this explorer-scientist’s ultimate goal is to leave boot tracks on another world. He is an aspiring commercial astronaut who’s trained in space centrifuges, and he yearns for an office in the sky. It’s fair to say that Ben has literally spent his life chasing the stars. Erin Ryder, Tech and Recon THE ‘SKELIEVER’ Lara Croft. Amelia Earhart. Dana Scully. Whether in fiction or nonfiction, there are few hard-hitting, tough-as-nails females as fearless as Erin Ryder, or Ryder, as she prefers to be called. Her unique perspective, competitive nature and determination to undercover the truth have taken her around the globe to research claims of the strange and mysterious. Ryder’s impressive resume includes rafting the world’s largest waterfall, rappelling the Great Wall of China and scaling glaciers in Antarctica. In Chasing UFOs, she exhibits this same all-out approach and adventurous spirit while climbing a 50-foot tree untethered and photographing an unidentified flying object that might just be the real thing! Her aggressive pursuit of the truth includes not only daring athletic feats but a zealous passion for research. Ryder’s deep desire for knowledge helps her serve as the show’s barometer, weighing the facts surrounding her co-hosts’ opposite points of view. Ryder considers herself a “skeliever,” as she falls somewhere between a skeptic and a believer. Deep down she wants to be convinced, but she will

need to see the hard evidence first. Ryder is a force to be reckoned with not only for her brains and brawn, but also for her industryleading knowledge of all things tech. Her years of experience investigating unsubstantiated claims make her an expert in the field of alien/ghost-hunting technology. Ryder “geeks out” over thermal cameras, Geiger counters and night vision scopes and can’t wait to use the latest technology to investigate new and old UFO cases alike. And her skills behind and in front of the camera serve her well as one of the executive producers on the series. James Fox, UFOlogist THE BELIEVER If “The X-Files” fictional character Fox Mulder were real, he’d undoubtedly be documentarian James Fox. For nearly 20 years, Fox traveled across the world in pursuit of the truth regarding UFOs. He directed and produced three films on the subject and in 2007 orchestrated an event, with help from journalist Leslie Kean (Coalition for Freedom of Information), which to this day is hailed as the most credible civilian effort of disclosure on UFOs in history. Fox assembled 14 speakers, including two retired generals and several other military officers, a former governor, civilian pilots and government

scientists from seven countries (Belgium, Chile, France, Iran, Peru, U.K. and the U.S.) at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., to give firsthand testimonies on their encounters/ investigations with UFOs. He is convinced not only that UFOs are real, but that governments have concealed information on this subject from the public for more than 60 years. In his study, Fox proudly displays a framed letter from Steven Spielberg, who called his last film “compelling,” and states, “I hope the government will someday reveal the true and natural origins of UFOs.” For the first time ever, Fox takes his personal experiences, contacts and expertise on the road with National Geographic Channel’s new series, Chasing UFOs. His nonthreatening conversational style of interviewing, open mind and unbiased reputation have given him unfettered access to witnesses, government documents and cases from around the world. If Fox doesn’t know a case, he’s friends with someone who does. Like Mulder, James Fox firmly believes the truth is out there, and it’s a personal journey for him to share the facts with the world. Obama Administration Participates in Finalizing UN Gun Grabbing Treaty the Second Amendment. On June 29, they sent a letter to Obama and Secretary of State Clinton expressing concerns about the treaty. The letter states that the treaty infringes on the “fundamental, individual right to keep and bear arms” and says the United States government does not have the right to support a treaty that violates the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Obama Administration Participates in Finalizing UN Gun Grabbing Treaty Kurt Nimmo Infowars.com July 5, 2012 United Nations apparatchiks are finalizing details on the Arms Trade Treaty and the Obama administration is taking an active role. A treaty conference commenced on July 3 at the United Nations and is scheduled to run through July 27. Attendees will spend nearly a month tweaking a treaty draft. photoKnotted gun sculpture at the United Nations. “Our common goal is clear: a robust and legally binding Arms Trade Treaty that will have a real impact on the lives of those millions of

people suffering from the consequences of armed conflict, repression and armed violence,” said United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon at the opening of the conference. “It is ambitious, but it is achievable.” “The outcome will not seek to prohibit citizens of any country from possessing firearms or to interfere with the legal trade in small arms and light weapons,” a press release issued by the United Nations’ Office for Disarmament Affairs insists.

130 members of the House, however, are not convinced the treaty does not pose a threat to

Page 15 weirdmagazine.com

Critics warn the treaty will result in mandatory gun registration. “Registration makes it easy

for a tyrannical government to confiscate firearms and to make prey of its subjects,” writes Stephen P. Halbrook. Others argue that gun registration is essentially confiscation. “The only purpose of gun registration is gun confiscation, whether it is done individually and piecemeal, as the legal requirements to own a gun become more and more difficult, or en mass, when the government feels the necessity to disarm its citizens in order to further its control,” notes Dean Weingarten. Democrats believe Republicans and Second Amendment advocates are

grandstanding the issue for political gain and say the treaty does not threaten the Second Amendment. Michigan Democrat senator Carl Levin has stated that he believes that worries the treaty will limit the Second Amendment are “misplaced.” The NRA gave Levin an “F” for his gun control voting record. He has voted for government background checks at gun shows and has voted to close the so-called “gun show loophole.”

History of Weird PUBLISHING What happened was that we were in our apartment and we were watching The Simpsons and in a quick scene Homer calls out to Bart for something, “Bart, get over here” and Bart’s reading something and says,” what do you want” and puts it down and what he was reading said “weird” on it. Immediately, Jason and I got online and registered Weird Magazine. There was no Weird Magazine, we looked it up. There was Weird Tales back in the pulp fiction era of the 40’s and 50’s and 60’s. When we started our publishing we kind of invented our RC Cola brand and we were looking for our Coca Cola brand. It’s all about brand identity and because Austin Paratimes was so long it was really a no name brand identity so like I said, we were going through our brand identity issues at the time and needed to call ourselves something cooler and that was Weird Magazine. TN: So you just published your 100th issue? Russell Dowden interview Weird Magazine July 2012 By Tara Nishimura taranishimura@gmail. com With the 100th issue of Weird Magazine published last month, I had a beer with the creator, publisher and editor Russell Dowden and heard the genesis story of the magazine’s history. RD: We created this publication out of the ashes of 9/11 essentially. We did a program booklet for the 38th National UFO Conference in September of ‘01. The conference was to be held at the Alamo Drafthouse on Colorado downtown but 9/11 happened and our conference got cancelled. But out of that we published a beautiful little program booklet. What we did learn was that we were able to sell advertising in our program booklet and put some cool articles together and interview some cool bands. I sat out on Miles Lewis’s front porch ... and I said “guys, we’re gonna create something out of this,

this isn’t over yet.” We didn’t get our conference but it was that program booklet that led to the Austin Paratimes: Not Your Normal News. The Austin Paratimes led to Weird Magazine. TN: What do you do to make Austin weirder? RD: I’m really just a byproduct of the culture is all and when Keep Austin Weird started becoming a phrase we were already publishing the Austin ParaTimes. The fact is my graphic designer and I lived at William Cannon and Manchaca; we were watching The Simpsons one day and this was when we were going through an identity crisis of our own because we had published the Austin ParaTimes magazine for about a year and we realized, well man you know, this name is too long. Austin ParaTimes Not Your Normal News, this is just too long. We had a brand identity issue and we needed to improve the brand name of the fringe publishing that we were doing at the time.

Page 16 weirdmagazine.com

RD: Yeah (laughs) it’s actually my 101st issue this July. We did nine Austin Paratimes so I included the nine we did before. So you could argue that it’s the 91st but it’s not because I did nine issues of the Austin Paratimes. I include those in my publishing career as well. One hundred, I can’t believe it. Must be doing something right. TN: What do you expect after the 101st issue? RD: I just expect to keep doing what we’ve been doing. TN: Why did you choose the 100th issue cover art you did? RD: On my business cards it says fringe publishing with a purpose and we’ve been a fringe reader. From the history that we’ve been doing this, it’s always been a counter cultural, subversive, sub-cultural type of publication. This cover here, the 100th issue, with this kind of Robby the Robot carrying the woman and the UFOs beaming down

is actually paying homage to the pulp fiction readers. The old readers that were covering fringe topics like UFOs and extra terrestrials, so we gave the cover here a very 1950’s looking theme. No one publishes locally what I do in this modern era. TN: What is the idea behind Weird Magazine? RD: To give people an alternative to the mainstream world of what we saw at the time as publishing around us. We’re the answer to the world of mundane mediocrity in local publishing.

Strange Circumstances Surround Park Disappearances By George Knapp

people. In the many cases of kids, they disappeared while with the parents. “Being parents, being responsible people, we understand there is no way my son or daughter wouldn’t know their way back from just being down the road getting a ball. But it happens all the time.” The missing defies logic. They hike uphill, for instance, often steep climbs. Children as young as 2 or 3 years old are found a day or two later, many miles away and over mountain ranges. “Some kids are found phenomenal distances away that would make no logical sense to any parent,” Paulides said. Weird things happen to their clothing. The missing often shed their clothes right away, even in bad weather. Clothes are found, but not the people.

Strange Circumstances Surround Park Disappearances

“I was staying in a hotel off park service land and there was a knock at the door,” said David Paulides.

The summer travel season is nearly here which means millions of people will be heading for national parks and national forests. As it turns out, a few of them won’t be coming back.

The person who came to confide in law enforcement veteran Dave Paulides was a government employee who told one heck of a story about people who vanish in national parks, places like Yosemite, but also national forests, including the Toiyabe west of Las Vegas.

By George Knapp

Each year, hundreds of people are reported missing in national parks and forests. Most are eventually found, but there’s a smaller category of cases that are never solved, including a few close to home. It is not a revelation to report that people get lost in wilderness areas or forests. The ITeam is investigating a different kind of mystery that involves disappearances which are not caused by predator attacks, criminals, or bad luck. A former cop has put together hundreds of case files regarding clusters of missing persons in national parks where the circumstances are strange.

In the years since the knock at the door, Paulides has scoured small town newspaper archives and pestered federal agencies for records. He found so many cases of missing people that one planned book became two, filled with more than 400 cases of people who went into national parks but never came out. CANAM Missing Project “People disappear in the wilderness all the time. We’re talking about something different. These are unusual things that don’t make sense, that happen to cluster together in three to

Page 18 weirdmagazine.com

four, sometimes as many as 20 to 30 people missing at one location,” Paulides said. The individual cases are strange enough, Paulides says, but stranger still were the reactions of federal agencies when he asked for public records. Since even small police departments keep lists of missing persons from their jurisdictions, he figured a large federal law enforcement agency like the National Park Service would do the same. “When we FOIA’d (Freedom of Information Act) them, we got a response back that we don’t keep any lists of missing people,” he said. The response was not only no, but hell no, he says. So Paulides began putting his own lists together and discovered what appears to be nearly 30 clusters of disappearances in national parks or forests; cases which meet a narrow set of odd characteristics. The people who vanish often do so under the noses of other

“The ranger described to me if you were standing straight up and you just had your pants on and you melted directly into your pants. That’s what it looked like to him. The pants were lying on the ground in a very neat pile.” The missing defy normal search and rescue practices. Bodies are found in places that are all but inaccessible, or they are found in the open, in areas that were repeatedly searched earlier. Bloodhounds or other tracker dogs are often befuddled. “If a dog can’t find a scent, that’s a red flag. If a dog, a trained dog K-9, is put on the scent at the site and it lays down and it doesn’t want to track anymore, red flag. That happens more than you think.” Nevada doesn’t have a major cluster, but it has plenty of cases including children who vanished around Lake Tahoe, in the center of the state near Tonopah, and at Mt. Charleston. In 1966, 6-year-old Larry Jeffrey of Henderson disappeared while playing with

his two brothers, setting off a massive 16-day search by as many as 1,000 men. Former Sheriff Ralph Lamb remembers it clearly. “We walked shoulder to shoulder but couldn’t find him,” Lamb said. “There are no large predators per se, so we can’t worry about mammals taking them. He was in a fairly remote area where there is no vehicular access; so there is no car abduction. The boy just walked into oblivion. Other aspects of this mystery are even more bizarre, though difficult to explain in just a few minutes. For example, many of the vanished who are found alive are kids too young to speak or kids who can’t communicate because of disabilities. Some who are found alive say they can’t remember what happened to them. In his books, David Paulides reports on why some obvious explanations simply don’t apply here but he stops short of giving his own theory. Paulides says he doesn’t want to scare people away from visiting parks but thinks people need to be made aware. A month ago, the I-Team asked the park service and forest service for their lists of local missing person’s cases. The I-Team has not received that list.

Unmasking The Evil Alien Empire by sean casteel

always adamantly hammered home her belief that alien contact was a negative, frightening, even heartbreaking burden that was to be resisted and fought with every ounce of a person’s strength. When she died of breast cancer in 1996, it was openly speculated that she had been “silenced” by her abductors for her outspoken beliefs in their fundamental evil, though we of course cannot know if that is true.

Unmasking The Evil Alien Empire By Sean Casteel •Are the extraterrestrials here implementing plans to take control of the planet? •Are the aliens offering solutions to mankind’s problems as a kind of Trojan horse in order to get their foot in the door so they can lead us to a totalitarian form of world government? •Do the ultra-terrestrials utilize religion – and fundamentalism in particular – to influence and even control the current program of terrorism? •Will mankind one day be ruled over by hybrid humans/aliens whose superior mental powers will completely subjugate us? •Have we secretly achieved a new military technology that may one day provide us with effective weapons to use against an alien invasion? Is the human race at the socalled “mercy” of hostile, even monstrous aliens? For the late Karla Turner, it was always impossible to turn her alien abduction experiences into a “blissful” New Age blessing. Unlike the many who took the experience to be a form of contact with angels or benevolent entities of some kind, Turner

Page 20 weirdmagazine.com

“The Conspiracy Reader” has recently published a new book called “Evil Empire of the ETs and the Ultra-Terrestrials” that offers not only a reprint of Turner’s seminal work “Into The Fringe,” a book based on the journals she kept in 1988 and 1989, but also presents the more recent efforts of other researchers that make the case for interpreting alien abduction as a fiendishly painful trip through an alien-controlled hell. In her introduction to the book, Turner presents the cluster of people she will be writing about, which will include her husband, her son, her son’s girlfriend and her son’s male roommate, as well as other friends and researchers she would come to know along the way. “We discovered that we were victims,” Turner writes, “of abductions by some alien force. We learned that this force, this alien presence, had in fact been part of our lives for many years. And through sharing our experiences, and seeking answers and help from others who had also encountered these beings, we learned to survive with our sanity intact and our perspective on life immeasurably expanded.” Many of the experiences Turner writes about are common among abductees. But one aspect of abduction that even the hardiest believer in alien benevolence has trouble dealing with is the sexual procedures frequently performed during an alien encounter. For instance, Turner writes about a man named “Fred” (a pseudonym) who recalls under hypnosis a horrifying sexual experience involving a half human/ half animal creature.

“I feel like they are doing something to me with the animal,” Fred begins. “They are doing something with me, my blood, my sperm, and my genes. They are injecting my fluids into this animal. I think it’s stupid, and I don’t like it. Why are they doing this?” His facial expression becomes disturbed. “Seems like the animal is part human, part animal,” Fred continues. “Like a small child around two years old. The one animal that appears to be part human seems to be real hairy.” Fred begins to feel angry, watching as the aliens inject fluids into the apparently female animal. He next starts to shake all over, in “wrenching spasms” that continued for several minutes, which are then followed by his sobbing and moaning in distress. After a while, he recovers his composure and returns to telling his story. He now remembers seeing gray aliens levitating the small human/animal, who is spread-eagled on her back. “There is one now,” Fred goes on, “that is sticking a needle device up her groin or vaginal area. It has hooves, like a cow.” Fred realizes that he is naked and strapped down, unable to move. “Seems like there is a nude woman,” he says. “She’s been opened up and has a vertical incision from the top of her chest to straight down to her groin area. They have moved her close to me. The one that had my stuff in the tube is going over to her. He’s putting his hand inside her. His hand entered through the chest opening and was directed down towards the reproductive area. It looks like he’s got a long, tube-like instrument going in through her vagina.” Next, a gray alien takes a lighted object and pulls the woman’s skin together, sealing it up as if there was never a cut there at all. Fred restates his belief that his sperm, blood, etc. had been inserted into the both the half

animal/half human creature and the human female. After some frightening moments in which the aliens insert a long, thin rod into both his eyeball and his navel, Fred is brought out of hypnosis, still upset and affirming his statements that he had seen the typical gray aliens throughout the experience. The aforementioned roommate of Turner’s son, called by the pseudonym “James,” also had a harrowing sexual encounter. “I saw a beautiful blond woman facing me,” James said. “She was really pretty and looked totally human. And she was acting sort of sexy and alluring to me. She held out her arms like she wanted to hug me, so I went to her. I thought she was going to kiss me, but when we got really close together, it all changed. She wasn’t pretty anymore, and she damn sure didn’t look human. It was ugly, whatever it was.”

The female figure looked “terrible, real dark and bumpy, like there were warts all over the body. And slimy.” Seeing the creature’s transformation into something so ugly frightened James. The creature shoved something down his throat, after which his memory cuts off. He awakened the next morning to a sore throat and a bitter taste in his mouth, “like bile.” He also discovered three parallel scratches on his neck, which served to indicate the experience hadn’t been a dream. Turner’s son, called by the pseudonym “David,” told her that he awoke one night in his bed feeling “as if he were oscillating violently, as if his body were about to explode or disintegrate into its atomic particles. “It felt really scary,” David said, “like if that sensation went on much longer, I was literally going to come apart. I was just getting ready to scream, I was so scared, and then the sensation suddenly stopped.”

DAWN OF THE NEW MILLENNIA

Along with Turner’s “Into The Fringe,” the new book “Evil Empire of the ETs and the UltraTerrestrials” also includes an opening chapter by Timothy Green Beckley called “Strange Brew.” Beckley tells the nightmarish stories of a couple of pairs of witnesses who encountered ships and aliens while driving the freeway that doggedly pursued the hapless motorists for many miles. In one case, a married couple named Bob and Jackie Blair told their story to a newspaper reporter in Sauk Centre, Minnesota. “They had been experiencing unexplainable phenomena for three days,” the newspaper report said, “for 900 miles across three states, and when they stopped in Sauk Centre, Minnesota, hardly anyone believed them.” The pursuit had begun in Montana when what the Blairs at first took to be stars in the night sky turned out to be nine small ships and one large one. Things turned hostile quickly when the couple’s car was shot with needle-like shavings of silver metal that penetrated the couple’s windshield. The shavings ruined the truck’s new paint job and when Jackie touched them they caused her fingers to break out in blisters; Bob had a similar blister on his wrist. The reporter says that their fingers glowed from the unknown substance they had touched and Bob exclaimed, “We might be dying right now! We don’t know what it is. We have to get to a doctor!”

may be that we are humiliatingly outgunned and outmanned, and the authorities simply can’t go public with a situation they can neither control nor influence. However, efforts like the Star Wars Space Defense program, begun under President Ronald Reagan, seem to be a step in the right direction, Brownlee said, and he knows personally people in the defense industry who are continuing to work to develop adequate technology to fight back against the aliens’ superior weaponry.

Unmasking The Evil Alien Empire By Sean Casteel continued . . .

Beckley’s chapter also deals with a terrifying highway encounter that happened to a young woman named Mickie and her girlfriend, an experience so blatantly bizarre that Beckley compared the story to an LSD trip. At one point in the women’s drive across the country, with the UFOs in hot pursuit, a monster “dog” appeared in their backseat complete with glowing red eyes. Beckley believes this adds considerable weight to the ultraterrestrial concept, meaning that other realities are merging with our own in many close encounter cases, placing the abnormalities outside

the realm of wandering spaceships and alien occupants into a totally different conceptual dimension. My own contribution is called “The Shadowy Universe of Alien Thought Control,” and deals with such unsettling possibilities as the mental co-opting of world leaders in government, religion and economics and the open hostility of the alien presence. In an interview I did with researcher and political activist Michael Brownlee, he argues quite convincingly that if anyone else were to abduct members of our citizenry by the millions or over-fly and disable our nuclear missile sites, we would regard it as an act of war and respond accordingly. Why is it we give the aliens a free pass in those terms? One answer

Writer, editor and Emmy Awardwinning producer Tim Swartz also contributes a chapter to “Evil Empire of the ETs and the Ultra-Terrestrials.” Swartz points out that the meetings between beautifullooking Nordic blondes and the early contactees cut against the grain of the alien-related popular culture and Cold War paranoia of the 1950s. With potential atomic warfare between the USA and the USSR casting a dark cloud over the era, combined with science fiction movies about hostile aliens such as “War of the Worlds” and “Invasion of the Body Snatchers,” the benevolent Nordics seem out of place and too good to be true. Which they were, according to Swartz, who provides several case histories of negative UFO contact from that same timeframe. In one case, which took place in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1954, two truck drivers found their way blocked by a glowing disc-shaped object about ten feet in diameter and hovering about six feet above the street. They next encountered a hairy dwarf whose yellow, catlike eyes glowed in the headlights of their truck. The creature began to claw at one of the truck drivers with webbed hands, and when the driver fought back with a knife, the blade glanced off the being’s shoulder as if the creature were made of steel. After the encounter, a doctor determined that both men were in a state of shock and that neither of them had been drinking. Swartz also writes about similar stories from throughout the world that bolster the arguments for declaring the UFO presence to be a hostile one.

“Evil Empire of the ETs and the

Page 21 weirdmagazine.com

Ultra-Terrestrials”

ends with a chapter by Brad and Sherry Steiger, celebrated authors and longtime veterans of UFO and paranormal research, who open their files to relate some further contact episodes with a wicked ET force that does literal and irreparable harm to its human victims. In one story, which took place in 1970, a 40-year-old, healthy farmer near Sao Paulo, Brazil, was stunned and knocked to the ground by a mysterious beam of light from the sky. In tremendous pain, he managed to make his way to the home of his sister. While the farmer showed no evidence of burns, within a matter of hours the once robust man began to deteriorate right before the eyes

of his startled friends and family. Although the man did not complain of pain at any point, his “insides began to show, and the flesh started to look as though it had been cooked for many hours in boiling water. The flesh began to come away from the bones, falling in lumps from his jaws, his chest, his arms, his hands, his fingers. Soon every part of him had reached a state of deterioration beyond imagination. His teeth and his bones stood revealed, utterly bare of flesh. His nose and ears fell off.” Six hours after being struck by the terrible beam of light, the farmer died. He was unable to reach a hospital before he was reduced to a grotesque skeleton, and he passed away attempting to communicate details of his awful experience. This has been a brief overview of the many frightening stories and episodes of contact provided in “Evil Empire of the ETs and the UltraTerrestrials.” As the reader can see, a lot of the material included here is not for the squeamish, yet one should face the ET threat as bravely as possible and hope that the courage of mere mortals is enough to sustain us in this strange warping of reality as we know it.

Blast from the Past - 1970’s Austin Memories from the Dude - By Jamie Balagia

Blast from the Past 1970’s Austin Memories from the Dude

By Jamie Balagia I was speaking to my great friend and Austin standard, Don King, the other afternoon about Bob Cole resurrecting KOKE-FM at 99.3 in Austin and man did the memories return. I should tell you guys that I graduated from LBJ High School (after three years at Reagan) in 1975 so you can place my life experiences in time. A large percentage of you readers may not have been born then and you really missed so much of what made Austin the original weird. As a kid my dad used to drive us down by the Coliseum so we could get an “ice cream” cone from Sandy’s. Wow, what a treat that was and especially if we got to spurge and get a burger or hot dog. Another old time Austin treat was buying a ‘hot dozen” from Johnson’s Donuts on Airport Blvd right down from Moyer’s Pool Hall at Airport and E.51st Street. I grew up on Hollywood Avenue which intersected with Delwood Shopping Center. We had black students at Maplewood Elementary and we all got along just fine but later “white flight” happened and that was weird seeing all our friends move away because they were scared of something that was strange to them. We did have a few fist fights to prove we had balls and then everything worked out for the most part. When I was ten years old I used to go to the drugstore and rip the centerfolds out of the newest Playboy release when the clerks weren’t watching. Over the years I wondered what the

Page 22 weirdmagazine.com

poor dudes thought that would buy the Playboy magazine and sneak out to their cars to peek at the centerfold only to find it missing. You know they didn’t go back inside and make a scene but they did get to participate in my schoolboy learning. I would try to sneak a peek at the Playboys on the table at Kervin’s Barbershop but too many older eyes were watching and would have snitched me off to my dad and a full bore ass whipping would have been delivered. I can still remember my younger brother, Mark, getting his first real haircut at Kervin’s and how much fun it was to cut up with all the regulars even if we were just kids. I pulled off my first shoplifting at Winn’s when I copped some gum not because I wanted to but because the lady kept acting like I was going to steal something. I bought the Beatles White Album at Murphy’s Department store. Max Gochman used to follow me and Randy Beaman around Academy and ask if we had any money and then run us off. I watched the shoe shine man at Kervin’s put shoe polish on one kids face named Rudy who was competing for shoe shine sales in the air conditioned hallway of Delwood Center. Nobody called the cops either because that was the way it was done back then. That older black man fed his family shining shoes and he just had the right to set things straight in “his” working area. I remember riding bikes to Eastwood Park when I was 12 years old to watch the liberal UT chicks play topless softball. They tried to make us leave and stop watching them - yeah right. We would work our way to the ice cold creek and search for the beer that people kept

in the water in bags to keep cold. It was always fun to steal their beer and drink it from the jungle looking creek banks while we watched them look for the missing brewskis. We would stop by the head shops near the UT campus and check out the cool stuff. The White House had water beds, cool patches, posters and smoking items and we were always welcome to hang out but no one gave kids any drugs back then that I knew of. It was cool to watch the hippies around the Drag and all the flea market type stuff they would sell in the alleys. We got to see a couple of riots on the drag and it was better than the movies until the tear gas got us choking and puking. Danny Davila was usually hanging with us on the drag. I remember some of the older kids or kids older brothers getting killed in Viet Nam and that was a real bummer and eye opener when you knew what they looked like from seeing them for years at Maplewood Park. Every night we would watch the nightly news and check out the live video taped battles and read the running death and injury score cards. We also spent hours starring at the girls in bikinis at Bartholomew swimming pool with the super high dive board. We would watch the chicks dive off the high dive to see if their suits came off. This was when we were just being boys and weren’t worried about having to register as sex offenders. All the parks had “battle of the bands” in the summer and some killer bands played in the contests for Austin’s best bands. My older brother, Eddie, kept an eye out on all us younger dudes in case anybody too big messed with us and he was a ladies’ man supreme too. I was blessed to have a really popular and cool brother like Eddie because I was immediately accepted being his little brother. Austin had great high school football teams back then and the Longhorns were winning National championships under Darryl Royal. We used to pay a couple of bucks to sit in the Knothole section and I got Chris Gilbert to give me his bloody chinstrap after a great win with James Street and “Woo Woo”

Steve Wooster in the backfield. We used to go to Gregory gym and throw ice at the Aggie basketball team and check out the UT cheerleaders. Austin High and Reagan played some unbelievable football games in 1968 - 1971. The muscle cars were everywhere and you could score some booze and nobody got arrested or had to go to treatment. I can remember when some Reagan seniors went to the Chicken Ranch in Lagrange and one of them died in a car wreck coming home to Austin. Then we go to high school ourselves it was time to be a fish and then party big time by our sophomore year when we all got cars and had part time jobs to pay for partying. ZZ Top did the barn stomping concert at Memorial stadium and all my buddies went while I earned double time and a half working at Safeway grocery store that day. What a mistake to have missed ZZ and the hippies burning and cutting holes in the Astroturf. We partied at the White Rabbit off N. Lamar and Houston streets, went to the Playboy club off Airport to watch the strippers and drink cold beer while we tried to act 18 instead of the fifteen years that we were. Eli’s club was hopping and some of the guys I knew would try to “roll the queers” at Pearl Steet until some big gay dudes kicked the crap out of the bullies one night and that put an end to that action. We would hit the bars around UT and were never turned away if we had cold cash for cold beer. The Silver Dollar had nickel beer night and quarter pitchers as well. We were either really careful, or poor, or lucky since none of us ever got a DWI or DUI. And the Austin cops were cool for the most part and didn’t beat up high school kids, shoot our dogs or bust us. We would sneak our friends into the Drive In movies and if the cops caught us they would confiscate our booze and we all knew they would drink it later but that was like a tax to not go jail. All my buddies knew if you got busted it was better to go to jail forever than to get an ass whopping from our dads and they didn’t get arrested for being dads in those days. I have to say that I think things were a lot better back then when it came to getting raised and the police weren’t always trying to give

you a criminal history record. I was coming home from Hippy Hollow one day with Tisha, our old fat poodle in my car. I had spent the day drinking cold beer like a sixteen year old used to do while admiring the naked bunnies on the rocks. That was before the gay dudes took Hippy Hollow over and messed up the chick watching. On the way home I got pulled over by a motorcycle cop and figured I was going to jail. When he stuck his head in my window Tisha started licking his face and he got all pissed off and ordered me to “get moving”. Tisha got some nice doggie treats for a few weeks after that. One Saturday morning I was speeding in my ‘65 Mustang and APD officers Townsend and Joseph tried to catch me but I knew the streets better than them and outran them in a pursuit. About an hour later as I pulled into the cul de sac I saw them parked in my driveway talking to my dad and they all started staring at me. Dad signaled me to drive on up and as I did the cops drove past me laughing and pointing at me as dad dragged me out of the car and tore that ass up. No arrest, no criminal history, no future job trouble, no court or fines and no more pursuits. I later became great friends with both officers when I went to work at APD. While I remember all of this as I am typing I am getting pissed off at how much today sucks for the younger dudes and dudettes. We used to go to Mother Earth, the Keg and the Bucket and have fist fights with the guys from the other high schools but we didn’t use knives or guns and we all ended up as friends after we finished our fighting. The Lanier high school cheerleaders were the most beautiful girls alive while Crockett and AHS ran a tight second. Maybe they just looked better because we weren’t around them all the time.

Blast from the Past - 1970’s Austin Memories from the Dude - By Jamie Balagia

Blast from the Past 1970’s Austin Memories from the Dude

By Jamie Balagia In the 10th grade, after we got some liquid courage in us, Randy Smith streaked through the Reagan HS halls and I drove my brother Buddy’s Malibu SS as the escape vehicle. Randy Beaman and Monty Cawthon were lookouts and passengers in the great escape, and that was too cool. We got drug into Dean Lewis’ office but we stood tall and nobody snitched and they knew it was us but after being warned not to do what they couldn’t prove we were cut loose to celebrate with our classmates. Back then you might get beat with a board with holes in it for aerodynamics but we had some tough butts in those days and took our beatings and never said nothing about it. Now you would have a federal investigation and teachers getting fired for trying to keep us straight and caring about us. And we didn’t have a bunch of Sandusky types hanging around either or the dads would have taken care of that and the cops would have been cool about that. When I was a junior at Reagan I started on the football team and we lost to Earl Campbell’s Tyler John Tyler in the State championship game at the Astrodome. What a bummer after Reagan had won three titles in the years before us. When we came back from Christmas Break (yeah that was the name of the vacation) the coaches split the next years team in half

and told my half that we were no longer going to be Reagan Raiders and there was nothing that could done about it unless we wanted to stay at Reagan and join the ROTC program. I wasn’t into short haircuts so my butt went to LBJ and it was cool going to a brand new school but I sure missed my Raider buddies. Ross Simpson stayed at Reagan so we would meet at lunch and drink Lone Star beer longnecks that we always kept in our trunks in the cardboard boxes in cool weather. I came back from tossing a few down one day and the coach from SMU was there to recruit me. He didn’t seem to upset at my breath and I was going to receive a football scholarship to SMU. I was having a celebration party with some guys from both schools two days before my signing and the coach called to tell me that SMU was going to lose half its scholarships for violating NCAA rules and mine was one that was lost. I got to walk back into the party and tell everybody that it was now a go time to get drunk because I just lost my scholarship and had blown off all the other schools that were interested in me. I ended up going to Blinn Junior College in Brenham and finishing out at SWTSU in San Marcos. If you went to either one of those schools I don’t need to tell you what we did to keep ourselves entertained but I may in a future writing if anybody cares since that wasn’t Austin weird. Weird yes but not Austin weird. When we heard that the Armadillo was being shut down it crushed us and Mike Hudson Harkins and

I went to three of the last four shows. That may have been the precursor to my 1988 rehab stint but who knows. The ‘dillo was the best concert arena in the world and I had seen some incredible acts there - or at least I think I did. I loved Cliff Antone and the Attal family from AA Pawn on Sixth Street close to the Nicholas Brothers shoe repair store. We used to eat chicken fried steak at the Stallion restaurant on Lamar. I mostly hung on the north side of the river since that was were I spent most of my time. I recall there was a place on N. Lamar that had a bathtub on the sign “for hippies and longhairs” to bath in that may have been called the Longbranch Saloon or something like that where you could get a killer steak and ice cold beer. But no one had colder beer than the original Doll House on Airport Blvd with mugs from the freezer. Me and my buddy, Snake, used to go there with just enough money for the beer and pool. The dancers called us bums because we got our own beer and never had any tip money. We would usually “get right” on the way over there since our beer funds were strictly limited. I should probably end this trip by tipping my hat to Bob Cole for bringing back KOKE FM to Austin, Texas. KOKE was the original station that played Willie, Waylon, B.W. Stevenson, Michael Murphy, the Eagles, ZZ,

Outlaws, Skynyrd, Hank, Dylan and all the long haired red neck music that pushed the Austin music scene. We loved KOKE FM and we all had the bumper stickers next to our “onward thru the fog” Oat Willies stickers on our bumpers. My summer job during college was delivering booze for Centennial Liquors to all the top clubs and strip joints in town. I have to admit that I had a tendency to sip a little at each strip club delivery and my Cuz, Walt, was always there to make sure we made it back to the shop safe and sound. Good memories, good times and good people that is what I remember most

about being born and bred in Austin, Texas. If it ain’t too much to ask, please do your part to Keep Austin Weird but in a cool way, in a ‘70s kind of way. As Cheech and Chong would say, peace, love, dope Later, Dude.

AUSTIN BAND ANIMAL RELEASE NEW ALBUM propagandized citizens, trying to do the right thing, being mislead into a fake war for the business interests of the corrupt, suit-wearing puppets at the top. They take advantage of the power they’re given, and pervert it for individual gain and corporate profits. This song is our way of saying to them, “we see you” and “we know who you are”. W: Name some of the bands Influences?

ANIMAL INTERVIEW W: Welcome to Weird Magazine guys! Congrats on the new Album. Animal: Thanks! The album is officially complete now, and we’re just finalizing some mixes through August, and will be releasing it into the wilderness by the end of the year. This has definitely been the most “epic” studio session any of us have ever done. We tracked 14 songs, giving you over a solid hour of pure rock n’ roll. It was important to us, that whoever buys this album is going to get their money’s worth. It’s nearly twice as long as the usual record, and we really worked hard with our engineer, Jason Buntz at The Bubble, to set it apart from other rock albums. With most people only into singles these days, we want to continue the classic tradition of making a complete record, as something you can enjoy from start to finish. W: What is Animal’s debut Album called? Animal: The album will be called War Makers, which is the first track on the record. W: Tell us about the song War Makers? Animal: Well, while we are not purely a “political band”, the global abuse and illegitimacy of the government, and sociopolitical issues affect everything we do whether we like it or not, and we’re just demonstrating our perspective. War Makers is about the world being held hostage by armchair quarterbacks sending our youth to fight in fraudulent, perpetual conflicts that don’t make any sense. Basically any war this century is an example of innocent and

Animal: We all have pretty similar influences. Melvins definitely had a huge impact on our lives and this band. Derek’s enlightenment came when he first heard Stoner Witch in high school and was blown away with the power coming out of a tiny set of speakers in his buddy’s room, and when “Queen” started, it was the moment that he knew what he had to do. The funny thing is that, Alaniz got his start sitting in his room in middle school, bruising his thighs, playing air and meat drums to the very same album. With Mike included, a few other bands we love are Thin Lizzy, MC5, Helmet, and Motorhead to name a few. W: The lyrics are often dark. Is that based on the dystopian times we live? Animal: Absolutely. Though we may touch on dark subjects in many songs, it’s the reality we live in, and we want to face it head on. One thing that’s always been extremely important to us is for each and every song to have it’s own soul and purpose. We don’t do “party” songs, or any songs of a petty nature. If you read into the lyrics, there’s always, in every single song of ours, a positive message meant to make you think. We may want to move you to think outside the box, lift your spirits, or remember a lost loved one. We cover a lot of topics, though we certainly touch on politics a good bit. After all, “Whether or not you affect politics, politics affects you”.

and we’re just now coming out of the studio for some fresh air while we finish the mixes, before sending it off for mastering. To learn about any upcoming shows, you can always find us on Facebook at facebook. com/animaltheband W: Dehuman Eyes , Full Moon Rises, and Blood Brothers are a few of the tracks off the 4 song EP we really dig. Does the band have a favorite?

W: Where around Austin can we catch Animal perform Live?

Animal: We really like them all to be honest, but Dehuman Eyes holds a particular meaning for us. It’s about the distance between us and the wars that are created by simply seeing them on the television. The play on words to “dehumanize”, is a reference to our desensitization to conflict, and the dehumanization we face as a result of being barraged by misleading information spewed by the mainstream media daily.

Animal: All over really, but our main stomping grounds in Austin are Emo’s, The Mohawk and Red 7. Lately, we’ve been focusing on finishing the album,

We only get to hear the bits and pieces of what is really happening, and we get caught up in that they want us to hear. It’s up to us to really dig deep into

the rabbit hole and discover for ourselves, the truth of war. That truth is that no one “wins” a war. We all lose. W: The Sounds have a rockin guitar riffs, many of them. Describe the sound of Animal in your own words? Animal: Thick, warm, and powerful wall of sound tones are what we’re after. A lot of what you hear is gear related as well. We’re all tone chasers and use mostly vintage gear. I (Derek) use a 1969 Super Lead Plexi, and a 1970 JMP Super Lead and run my rigs in true stereo, even live. Chris has a Ludwig Maple Classic drumkit set that is about the size of my car, and looks like something out of a medieval battle scene. Mike’s bass rig is out of this world too.

There’s a lot of unique elements to our gear that really helps us define our sound. W: Gotta wrap this up guys, fire off the website or any phone #’s for readers to get ahold of you for a Gig or to purchase the Album, as well as your Next Few gigs in July or August! Animal: Stay in touch with us on Facebook at facebook. com/animaltheband or go to animaltheband.com. We’ll be in studio for most of July and August, so there’s no gigs booked currently, but we’ll be coming out swinging VERY soon. For booking info, you can contact us at animalatx@gmail.com
