FromtheEditor

I’m so honored to take photos for so many wonderful people Many of you, I went to school with, whether in college or graduate school, and knowing you and still having a connection with you is a testament to a wonderful foundation that we established.

Moreover, you’ll never know how truly special it is for me to participate in your lives in a small way that becomes a lasting memory

Whether I’m shooting your engagement, wedding, maternity, baby shower, family photos, prom, grad photos, birthday parties, headshots are anything else in between, it’s truly an honor to shoot photos of you.

When I was at Morehouse, I couldn’t get away from the Maroon Tiger newspaper office. It was where I cut my teeth, and where my love for photography, writing and graphic design all came together I figured that this magazine would be an ideal way to share all of my passions in this regard at once.

Joe Carlos Photography The Magazine is a celebration of the work that I’m so blessed to do. Thank you for helping me in this journey

Legislative Roundtable Discussion

The annual Black Roundtable Legislative Session Reception was held at the home of Ardra and John Bey on February 1, 2024 and the event was kicked off with a stirring rendition of ‘Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing’ by the Beys’ eldest daughter.

The evening was a who’s who of elected officials from various Atlanta area counties as well as members of the Georgia state legislature and the judges on every level up to the Georgia Supreme Court.

Judge Ardra Bey, a longtime public servant, kicked off her latest judicial campaign with an outstanding event at her Atlanta home.

After eight years of service to the Atlanta Municipal Court, Judge Ardra L. Bey is looking to scale.

Now the Atlanta native is announcing her intent to run for election to the State Court of Fulton County, where multiple seats on the bench are up for grabs in the May 2024 nonpartisan primary election.

“Service is in my blood. My mother was a nurse here at Grady when she had me. My father served in the military and one of my brothers is currently in the Air Force,” Bey wrote. “I have worked hard to serve the community at large and the legal community in a number of capacities since returning to Atlanta after law school.”

Despite stormy weather, Judge Bey’s kickoff event was well attended and full of well wishers and supporters.

“I’m excited to be nominated for the American Heart Association Go Red for Women movement's Woman of Impact campaign. I am the proud daughter of John and Annette Hopkins. Neither of my parents made it to their 60th birthday due to heart related conditions. Since their deaths, I have worked to spread awareness and provide resources to communities that are in need. This work is in honor of the lives they lived and the legacy they built. This year, my parents would have turned 75 years old, and I would have planned elaborate parties in their honor. Instead, this year, I am fundraising and planning events/activities across the country as part of the Woman of Impact campaign. While I know they would have preferred to be here with me, I think they will be pleased with this celebration of their lives.” -
