Snack Reads MINILAND @ LEGOLAND MINILAND is a world of attractions made entirely out of your everyday LEGO bricks. It’s a town by itself which allows tourists to walk around Asian landmarks recreated in LEGO form. It’s an opportunity to see LEGO artwork at its finest. The MINILAND is a centerpiece of every LEGOLAND park. It took three years and more than 30 million LEGO bricks to recreate some of Asia’s best known landmarks in detailed miniature. Stroll along famous scenes from 17 Asian countries, including the Petronas Twin Towers, the Merlion Statue and the Taj Mahal.

M

ost of us grew up playing with Lego bricks attempting to be an architect building “interesting looking” structures! Imagine having huge animated and iconic structures of Lego bricks everywhere and also getting a chance to let loose on all the fabulous rides. All this is now possible and thanks to LEGOLAND Malaysia which is the first in Asia housing more than 40 rides, interactive attractions coupled with 7 themed areas covering over 76 acres. Once the park is fully operational, 3 signature restaurants, 3 food stands and 10 food carts will be featured on site serving freshly prepared food. Members of the Malaysian media including WAVES Lifestyle were given an exclusive media sneak preview on 7th August 2012 to some of its rides and we can safely add that we were all a bunch of excited big children who got a chance to relive our childhood memories! We were greeted cheerfully by the LEGOLAND staffs that adorn a Lego brick name tags and were given an insight as to what is in store for us. Also joining the media preview session was Muizuddin Marzuki or Muiz, 6. He was invited to the Park preview after his father wrote a letter to the management about his son being a huge fan of LEGO. Muiz who is a little shy also brought along his own dream house creation using Lego bricks and wowed every adult in the room. www.waveslifestyle.com

After a short introduction, we were then taken to the site where all the rides are situated and were greeted and briefed by Mr.Firdaus Raj who is the manager for attraction operations. We first tried the Technic Twister ride where colourful Lego gears spin around and we had to hold on to our dear life (just kidding) – we mean the wheels. The ride lasted for about 2 minutes and after overcoming from the slight dizziness, we proceeded to the Aquazone Wave Racer. The key feature of this ride is that one has to power-ski across the water, surfing the waves and dodging blasts of water. We had a great time playing this one and if you are good at your maneuvering skills, you have nothing to worry about. The third ride on the agenda was the Dragon’s Apprentice. In other words, it’s a roller coaster ride for the younger guests (at least 6 years and above). Having assured it is harmless, we all laughed it off thinking how scary can this be since its’ for children but you would be surprised at all the screaming adults who rode this not once but twice! We then wondered how it would be to ride the Power X which would be open later for the adults. We’ll perhaps leave it to the braver members of our staff to try it next time. The last ride was the Kids Power Tower where you get to prove your strength by pulling a rope in order to lift up to see the beautiful view of the park. This ride is meant for children

of 8 years of age and 4 if accompanied by adults. Thereafter, we took a short tour at the MINILAND where Asia’s famous landmarks were recreated in Lego miniatures. You can see the Petronas Twin Towers, the Johor Museum, the Taj Mahal and many others here and about 30 million Lego bricks were used. It was indeed a pretty sight to behold and imagine the efforts behind it. We then headed to the Market Restaurant which is one of the three signature restaurants at LEGOLAND where a sumptuous WesternItalian buffet dinner with Malaysian kuih-muih laid in feast for us. The “Prata wrap” in particular is a must mention and would be available at the Robot Kitchen food stand once its doors are open to the public. After the hearty meal, the media team had a Q & A session with Mr. Siegfried Boerst, the General Manager and Mr. Zain Azrai the F & B Director of LEGOLAND Malaysia. Mr. Boerst is optimistic that a good crowd would turn up on the opening day which is on 15th September 2012 and enjoy the experience. He adds that “we are confident in providing a first class LEGOLAND experience to all’”. Overall, the media sneak preview ended on a positive note and we are sure that everyone out there would head to LEGOLAND once it is open to public and relive their childhood days with their loved ones whether young or old.

NO DOUBT ALBUM AFTER 11 YEARS

No Doubt is back in action after a really long interval and ready to take on the music world with their current album “Push & Shove” which is set to release on 25th September 2012. Gwen Stefani, the female lead is quoted saying “we made the album of our lives”. Their current single titled “Settle Down” has bouncy-dance hall rhythms and strutting guitar riffs. Stefani adds that the new songs have “reggae, ska, dance hall and 80-s pop (like always), a lot of mash up of different styles and don’t expect extreme sonic reinvention”! Despite being married and mother to two children, Stefani, 42 and her team still look great and their current single may be a favourite in the charts.

Justin Bieber - Believe

Justin Bieber, a name loved by some and hated by others. Growing ever popular with every release, the man has progressed much since the last time especially his voice which isn’t as thoroughly kiddish as his previous works. The highly anticipated release from Bieber entitled Believe although features a number of powerful hiphop artists isn’t really a hiphop album to begin with. Actually I’m not even sure what it is. Pop? Sure yeah I guess. In any case JB reminds me of Justin Timberlake and it rings a lot more bells with his latest release. There are a number of decent tracks but the album is without a few less than average songs. Some of the popular and catchy ones to name a few are ‘Boyfriend’, ‘Die in your arms’ and ‘Right here’. 16 tracks all in all, enough to last an entire ride on the bus or train on your way to work or play. If you’re a Belieber, you might have already gotten this but if you have not then what’s stopping you? And if you’re not a fan, you can still pick this one up if you don’t hate him. Have fun!

Hands on Deck : djstyluxtakut (S’pore) What led you to become a DJ? Well, it started when I hung out at clubs and was amazed by how the DJ is in control of everyone’s emotions on the dance-floor and how he dictates the flow of the night. My interest in wanting to be a DJ became serious when I saw DJ Rattle (Rebel Boutique Club). This guy was not only mixing and blending songs, he was scratching them too! I have seen DJs scratching on television shows but to actually see someone do it live was something else. I guess that was my Eureka moment. Where and when did you first start? My journey began almost 4 years ago and found its humble start in my bedroom, way before I owned a pair of turntables and a mixer. I went on YouTube, searched for DJ tutorials and I began learning from Ellaskins a.k.a. DJ Tutor and Grandmaster DJ Qbert. They provided information and tips that were very thorough and useful. After that phase and when I had my own set, I joined a DJ Club in Singapore Polytechnic where I pursued my diploma. During the day I would skip lessons and practice at the Club Room and at night I would go home and work on what I had learnt from my seniors! What do you hope to achieve in the next 10 years? I want to focus on 3 things in the next 10 years: •To become a better DJ for it is important to be able to read and understand the crowd. This skill is not achieved or cultivated overnight as it comes from experience. •To become a better Turntablist as I have an insatiable desire to be the best and in order for that to happen, I have to practice harder each day, be disciplined and most importantly, be humble throughout my life. •To be able to educate and impart my knowledge and skills to other people as I believe it is important to give back what you have learnt to someone else.

Describe your music style/taste.. At the moment I am listening to music that is influenced by Electronic Dance Music (EDM) and I am trying to incorporate that into my club set and broaden my musical horizons as the last thing I want to do is pigeon-hole myself to one particular genre of music. If you were not a DJ, what will you end up doing instead? Honestly, I do not have the slightest idea; as such a thought never crossed my mind. If your house was on fire, what three things will you save? The first thing I would salvage is my QFO L.E (Hybrid 2 in 1 Turntable and Mixer), followed by my Mac Book Pro and last but not least, my iPhone. What is the one song that is always on your playlist? At the moment I am really digging C2C’s latest EP called “Down the Road”. It is something that gets me going throughout the day. Name three artists that inspire you. There are so many DJs that inspire me as each of them have their own styles and flair but my top 3 and in no particular order would be the late DJ A.M (USA), DJ Enferno (USA) and DJ Angelo (UK). These DJs have a heavy influence with the way I approach my club sets. If I could live my life all over again, I would… pester my parents to get me a pair of turntables and mixer as soon as I turn 5 years old! Where do you usually spin? Where can our readers find you?! At the moment I am doing a monthly night at Avalon (SG) called Ear Candy alongside their Resident DJ, Shawn Livewire. Besides that, I have my own mixes/ podcasts/videos that I put up regularly for my followers and fans. Born in KL, Deftman is the new age of reggae music in Malaysia..

D e f t m a n 16

Tell us a bit about yourself... Whaa Gwaan to WAVES Lifestyle Magazine and all the readers! My name is Deftman of No Name Recordz and Naa Neh Rasta-Mizhan. I am a full fledged Reggae artist and a Reggae music revolutionist. Raised in the beautiful and still green Ampang, Selangor, I got involved in this scene in 2005. On a professional level, I’ve competed in Astro’s Blast Off 2 and represented by competing professionally again on Tv3’s Gangstarz Season 1. I also released my 1st single on Malaysia’s 1st Tamil compilation album, ‘5 Elements’ going by the group Tribe-3 alongside Mc Bullet and Krayzie-D. I also appeared alongside Malaysia’s 1st Punjabi duo, Goldkartz album’s, Reloaded and 24 Karaatz and on Sai Prashant’s Wonders album, and released my single; ‘Nalla Neram’ featuring Sai Prashant and Vish-1 of No Name Records late last year. My current single titled ‘Rakayee’ was released on 27th July 2012 with No Name Recordz, as a preview to my upcoming debut album. Reggae music is often associated with a ‘certain’ drug *ahem*. What is your say on that? Well as far as I can see is a green plant that has been given bad reviews by certain individuals who misuse this plant and the term ‘drug’ also means medicine right? When I met with a terrible accident a few years ago and was given morphine for 3 days to reduce the pain. Therefore, I go with what my guru, the true legend of all men and the Lion of Zion, Bob Marley, said “what I smoke is no drug, but herb given to us all by Jah”. We should respect and only use this certain drug you speak of - safely and under professional supervision and may it not be misused and abused in the name of Jah, Reggae music, Bob Marley or whatever the reason may be. www.waveslifestyle.com

Tell us more about your upcoming debut album The truth is, I have yet to set a suitable name for my album as I am a man who goes with the flow even when I have a plan so I’ll just let it happen spontaneously. Even the songs in the album get fine tuned each time we at No Name Recordz brain storm. So what I can tell you is that this album of mine shall be a turning point in Malaysia or even across the Tamil speaking world, as Reggae is one of the predetermined music to come from the third world nation of Jamaica and was raised up higher by the King of Reggae, Bob Marley. My album would state the placement of Reggae music amongst our community and youngsters. I am also working with several artistes such as Psychomantra , Rabbit Mac , Roshan Jamrock of K-Town Clan and many others in order to give a diverse taste to the musical pallets of many. So stay tuned for it. How is Deftman different from other Asian Reggae artists? I respect all Reggae artists and I would say we (the Reggae representatives) are all a big family of brothers and sisters trying our best to feed love and deplete hate from this world. So there is no difference and there should not be any difference amongst us, for all of us Reggae Family are one. So how is Deftman’s normal day when you’re not being musician? I am a simple city dweller who loves going to the gym, an avid Youtuber and a regular guy who loves communicating via the social networks. I also love origami since I was in primary school and do lots of origami at home when I am free as the focus takes my mind away to a different place. Hurdles you have crossed to be where you are now I have lost many competitions and the pain of losing and the internal struggle to hold my old group together despite negative influences, and overcoming many other jackals who took advantage of my immaturity and innocence then are the things that shaped me today. I believe that without pain there is no gain and without experiencing pain we won’t value success. Many Reggae artists now don’t know much about their music. Everyone knows Bob Marley and his sons but what about Peter Tosh and Burning Spear and other legends. What is your say on this? I would say that upcoming Reggae artists should know more about the history of Reggae as not just the music but what are the messages incorporated within the works of many told and untold Reggae artists. I am totally with you when you say we all know Bob Marley, this is because he is not only an artist but also a revolutionist, a people’s man and a true legend. Upcoming artists should look beyond the legend Bob Marley and scour the digital world of media to find more and better source to groom their Reggae or music soul. I best believe that we should be a representation of our work. Your influences? The experiences I share with those I associate, inspirational stories and ethics are a major influence to my works. I follow the musical journey of all the Marley brothers and the works of Capleton, Buju Baton, Matisyahu, Dancehall artist like Sean Paul, Vybel Kartel, Gyptian, www.waveslifestyle.com

Bennieman, Elephantman and many others. All these great artists feed me the fuel that I need to generate for my work and I adapt to the concept and soul of their music and try to learn as much as I can but writing in Tamil is a challenge for me as medium of content is in English and Patois. Besides that, I read the works of Malcom-X, for he is a great guru who speaks of righteousness, and he is a major influence in my work. Tell us a bit about No Name Recordz I have been there since the very beginning before there was No Name Recordz. It’s basically set up by Sai Prashant who develops good talent. Our studio is called Arcade based in Masai, JB. We are a group of 12 individuals who work as a team to strive towards music excellence. This year will mark the 1st year of our establishment as a registered record label and my album is the first creation of No Name Recordz and we are very proud to host its arrival soon. What to expect from Deftman in 2012-2013 The rise of Rasta-Mizhan as not only a Reggae artist but as a revolutionist who promotes and cultivates the Reggae and Rastafarian culture to all Malaysian Indian community. The measure of music should not be digitalized and done by a person who doesn’t have a passion for music, so here my revolution as a Rasta-Mizhan stands and I shall invoke the knowledge of history, the depth of music and provoke the message of the soul, thus making Reggae music a variant amongst Malaysian Indians and Indians across the world. Thanks a million to Waves Magazine for giving me this opportunity and Much Respect and Much Love from me and all of us at No Name Recordz. Jah bless us all…

A

yurveda is the oldest form of traditional healing-science since 5000 years ago. It is a holistic approach to health, helping people live longer, healthier and lead a well balanced life. The word “Ayurveda” consists of two words; Ayur and Veda. Ayur means life and Veda means knowledge. The basic principle of Ayurveda is to prevent and treat illness by maintaining a balance in body, mind and consciousness through a proper diet, lifestyle as well as herbal remedies. Ayurveda proposes, that every living and nonliving beings has five basic elements (pancha mahabhootas) in them namely earth, water, fire, air and ether. These basic elements which manifests itself in human body as vatha (air & space), pitha (fire & water) and kapha (water & earth) which equates to Tridoshas (basic principle of energy) and when these Tridoshas are in equilibrium, we will be healthy. eye diseases, graying of hair, neurological disorders, insominia, tinnitus, loss of memory, psoriasis, nervousness, anxiety, headache and et cetera.

Shirodhara It is an Ayurvedic treatment practiced over 5000 years that involves pouring liquids over the forehead (third eye) for a period of 30-45 minutes continuously. It can be one of the steps of Pancha Karma (purification treatment). The word Shirodhara comprises of two words Shiro and Dhara. Shiro means head and Dhara means to flow. The liquids used in Shirodhara depend on what it is being treated for. It includes medicated oil, milk, buttermilk, coconut water and et cetera.

Procedure The patient needs to lie down on the droni (massage table) and after anointing his head and body with suitable medicated oils, his head should rest on a slight elevated position. Two attendants will then conduct the treatment where one will control the movements of dharapatra and flow of the oil and the other collects the oil that flows off the patient’s head. The vessel is refilled with this oil and the procedure is continued up to 30-45 minutes.

It is also known as SiraSekam and is one of the special types of treatment practiced in Kerala for the diseases of the head. It has been used to treat a variety of condition such as sinusitis,

Miss World Netherlands 2012 Nathalie Den Dekker 22

...organized a run for “Free a Girl Foundation and we had collected 10,000 Euros and were able to free 200 girls! My heart goes out to children who cannot stand up for themselves and as Miss WorldNetherlands 2012, I hope to be able to assist the disadvantaged in our society

How does it feel to be Miss World Netherlands 2012?

On June 18th 2012 I was chosen as Miss World Netherlands 2012 and my life changed a lot ever since as it’s a big responsibility and a full time job. However, I enjoyed everything about it; the preparations, media, shoots, training but also the social and voluntary work. I feel very honoured to represent Netherlands worldwide at the oldest, biggest and most prestigious beauty pageant on the planet. It’s a dream come true and I have put everything in my life on hold. I hope to make my fans and country proud as well as my second home country-Malaysia!

How prepared were you for the Miss World 2012 competition?

I followed a full time preparatory by the Miss Netherlands Organization and an international team. I had a wonderful team that helped me to look great from top to bottom. Monique Collignon was the designer for my final gown and gown for the top model competition. Furthermore, I got media training, performance coaching, shoots and catwalk training. I am very lucky with such a great team to support me, but you need to be willing to work hard yourself as well and give your best efforts.

How did you get into the modeling world?

Actually, beauty pageants opened the doors of modeling for me. This is how I became the Ambassador for Panasonic Malaysia for the second year in a row now. It’s what I love to do and after the Miss World competition, I hope to expand my modeling career and to become a famous international model. In the future I also hope to work as a lawyer since I graduated from Masters of Law at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands.

Apart from the limelight, tell us the real Nathalie

I grew up on a mushroom farm in a small village in the south of the Netherlands called ‘Made’ which is about 40 minutes drive from Antwerp, Belgium. I feel blessed with 2 loving parents, 2 sisters and a brother. Besides working very hard on my studies at the university, I have worked for 5 rewarding years in homecare. My current style is a mixture of my roots and the person I am today as I can appreciate the quality and style of more expensive brands yet love the looks and simplicity of mainstream brands as well. Ideally I combine the two together.

So tell us, how many sticky situations has that smile of yours gotten you out of?! Well, there was one time I was supposed to get fined from the police for riding my bicycle at night without lights on. However, www.waveslifestyle.com

I apologized and smiled very nicely and promised to fix my lights first thing in the morning and got away with it, without a fine!

Topics close to heart...

I wasn’t always a beauty since I was squinting when I was younger (the consequence of a little accident). I needed to have a plaster on one of my eye every day for a couple of hours and I got bullied a lot for that. On top of that the teachers thought I wasn’t smart because I was looking silly so they even downgraded me in school. I had to undergo 3 dangerous surgeries to correct my eyes of which 2 failed but luckily the third one was successful.

Your thoughts on representing Netherlands for such a prestigious competition?

It is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I want to make the best out of it. Very few girls get such a beautiful chance to travel the world and to meet so many beautiful girls from all over the world and to learn about their countries and cultures. I will give my 200% in it and give my best and hope to make the impossible possible.

The one thing that you would like to change...

I would like to put a stop to child abuse. I am currently supporting “Free a Girl Foundation” where it’s main goal is to strive after a world in which children are no longer the victims of human trafficking and sexual abuse. It feels great to help bring this wonderful charity organization under global spotlight. I have also organized a run for “Free a Girl Foundation” and we had collected 10.000 Euros and were able to free 200 girls! My heart goes out to children who cannot stand up for themselves and as Miss WorldNetherlands 2012 I hope to be able to assist the disadvantaged in our society.

A word to aspiring models?

Always take good care of yourself and make time for your friends and family. Stay true to who you are and where you come from. Remember that real beauty is something you can’t touch or see. It is something that needs to come from within. Beauty is felt in your heart. Everybody is unique and beautiful but the problem is that we don’t always see it. Keep believing in yourself and dare to dream big! My personal motto is a quote by Eleanor Roosevelt; ‘The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams’.

Future plans?

I hope to expand my modeling career even further. Modeling gives me the chance to travel the world, which I love. At the same time, the modeling world is only temporary, so good education is always important. That is why I got my university degree first before doing the things that I like. When I feel that my modeling experiences have come to an end, my ambition is to work as a lawyer at the Infant Welfare Centre. It would be a dream to combine my profession with a promotion at the University of Utrecht, achievable by high quality field researchers and making me one of the few female professors at Dutch Universities.

ith many big names such as Nando’s and The Chicken Rice Shop operating within the same shopping mall, Restoran Black Canyon is able to hold on its own and keep drawing in loyal customers. As a subsidiary of Thailand’s famous Black Canyon Coffee, this restaurant boasts a good range of coffee beverages that will tempt the taste buds of coffee lovers looking for an alternative place to get that coffee fix. Offering traditional Eastern fare such as Tom Yum alongside Western pastas and also fusion dishes, those dining in will be greeted with a menu that makes it difficult in deciding on just one dish to try. The Udon in Spicy Prawn Tom Yum Soup for instance, is a surprising explosion of rich spicy flavours in a bowl. The Salted Fish Stir-Fried Rice on the other hand, is adorably plated like a miniature work of art.

Beef

However, the secret star of Restoran Black Canyon is their “Black Canyon” Special Beef Steak. The steak is cooked the way you like it, be it medium, medium rare or well done. The “Black Canyon” Special Beef Steak is plated with three sides of buttered toast, crispy golden fries and a mixed vegetables salad. The highlight of the dish is its slightly smoky flavoured beef which is complimented by the generous serving of its mushroom-base sauce. Combining the subtle black pepper tinted sauce with its mushroom undertones, and the thick slice of sirloin meat, this steak is a mouthful of beefy goodness that is just too good to pass!

Marinade the chicken with all the ingredients and set aside for minimum 2 hours (or refrigerate overnight for better absorption of flavours). 3. Pre-heat the oven to 180 degrees and roast the chicken for 40-45 minutes (depending on your oven’s specifications). Nikoi’s nature settings

The main goal of the island is to rejuvenate you with therapeutic tranquility

Nikoi Island

s we stepped foot on Nikoi Island, paradise was the first thought that came to mind. Established in 2007, the island is mainly known for family holidays and honeymooners. The island is simply a place to kick back and relax and enjoy the ambience of nature. There are 14 houses in the island and they are all set to organic simplicity but with a touch of luxury. The patrons and staff mingle freely like fellow family members and the food served is a touch of the exquisite side of Nikoi.

A

The true perks of Nikoi is the isolation, peace and tranquillity. Some might find that a bore, but when you’re placed in such a breathtaking environment, it’s a gift to be cherished. The two-storey beachfront villas are timber and driftwood furnished, the room comes with king size beds and lounge chairs. The toilets are a must mention as they come in a sleek stone set picturesque fashion. No televisions or air conditioning is available to promote the concept of total relaxation. From Singapore, it is nearly a three-hour trip involving a 55-minutes ferry voyage to the island of Bintan, an hour long drive across the island and a 15-minutes speedboat ride to Nikoi. Connectivity on the island is kept to a minimum with WiFi available only near the office or if paid subscription is made. Meals are served 3 times a day but no a-lacarte meals are available. The served food is very fresh and halal. The swimming pool comes with many lounging chairs for you to just chill out and relax. Among the other activities available at the island is rock climbing, snorkelling, kayaking, sailing and surfing. Nikoi has a magnetic charm that upon leaving the island, one is drawn to visit it again so till we hit the white sands and clear green seas of Nikoi once again, so long folks... www.waveslifestyle.com

Social Networks

Boon or Bane? By Alan Wee A versatile writer who prefers to keep his face hidden to ensure his writings remain transparent

“Off to the mall in 10 minutes, XYZ meet me at Zara…” (about a minute ago via Mobile Web). “Today I had the worst day of my life”! (one hour ago). “Yippee! I’m boarding the flt soon… adios peeps see u all in 2 weeks time” LOL! (one second ago). Does the lingo sound familiar?

are also often left untouched or just a bite or two is taken for the sake of eating or deliberately ordered in order to take a picture of it so that one can post it to the world at large as to what they are eating or to show at which cool eatery they have checked in at.

The list is endless and it goes on for every seconds, minutes and hours. You are considered not to be in the savvy group if you are not part of the fast catching trends of social networks. Be it young or old, practically everyone we know is in some kind of a network. I admit I am one of those guilty ones who have to sign in everyday or maybe twice or thrice daily to update status, chat or send messages and et cetera but in my defense, I live away from home and I find it the best way to catch up with friends and family and to re-connect with people whom I have lost touch. The media is also not left behind in this trend that it has become almost compulsory to advertise in social networks where it reaches to the people faster. Besides that, it’s a good form of business networking.

So, a boon or a pain you decide as I think social networks are here to stay. I got to go now and update, oops I mean read a book!

However, given it’s pros there are also some setbacks to it. To name a few; ID theft, abuse of location application, stealing of photos, unwanted comments and unnecessary tagging among many can get annoying and dangerous. The lack of security is one of a cause of this invasion of privacy but you can protect yourself by not revealing too much information and be careful who you are adding in your network list. One can also adjust the settings, customize as to whom can gain access to your comments and pictures and when all fails, block those who are not worthy of your friendship!

• •

Unfortunately, getting hooked on social sites via smart phones is starting to get worrying in most parts of the world as people are cut off from the society when they are busy tapping away into their ever-so-trendy gadgets and as a result, have no time to speak to the person sitting across them during a meal. Meals

• • • •

Being able to keep in touch with family and friends from any parts of the world. Broadening network for better business. Good advertising platform.

5 Ways to Save Money

|

Manisha Dhalani shares some quick and easy ways to save more money especially for rainy days. Read on to learn more…

S

aving money is not an easy treat. We all succumb to materialistic needs and have many bills to pay, people to feed, places to go, etc. So how do we put aside some money for our future? How do we save up for that holiday that we really wish we could go on? It’s definitely not easy but here are some easy and quick ways we could increase the funds we receive and not tire ourselves out:

“Piggy” Bank There are so many cute-looking piggy and teddy-bear banks, or box-banks in all shapes and sizes that you can jazz up to fit perfectly in your room and this is probably the easiest method to save money. Make a commitment to save a certain amount a day – tell yourself that you will contribute 50cents, without fail, for a day. Sounds too little? Not if you save 50cents for one year, that’s a grand total of S$182.50 a year and this could be extra cash to buy something you really like for yourself during a festivity. Alternatively, if you want to go big, open up a separate savings account that you have no ATM card to. Make it difficult to withdraw money. Instead, fix an amount that you will deposit every week or month (e.g. S$50) and watch your money grow.

Go Online So many opportunities are available online that it’ll make you feel like you have so little time. Online survey panels are just one part of making money online. There are also a lot of affiliate marketing programs, blogshops that you can buy things for wholesale (discounts!) and more. It’ll be even better if you own a blog. You can use your blog to generate income by advertising, writing articles, reviewing blogs (affiliate marketing) and many more. In addition, you can sell products or services via your blog to generate even more side income.

www.waveslifestyle.com

Garage Sale Many people do not tap on this opportunity. We all have a lot of unwanted or unused items in our houses. For example, old furniture which is a few year’s old, magazines that we don’t read anymore, toys and clothes that we have grown out of. But imagine how many people out there could use these things and would kill to get it off a slashed price. Spring clean your house every year and organize a garage sale before throwing things away. You never know – you can earn hundreds of dollars by just clearing out things. They say one person’s trash is another person’s treasure!

Surveys What do we do when approached by people asking to fill up surveys? We walk away. Or when we get a call to answer a few questions? We hang up. The next time you get approached/ called/e-mailed regarding surveys. Stop. Ask the person conducting the survey if it is paid for. Sometimes, without us knowing, companies actually reward you for giving your thoughts. The return may not be great but you can get a few dollars or a few vouchers that will definitely save us some quick cash!

Be an Entrepreneur Have a blog? Become a blogshop owner via your blog, social media sites (Facebook or Twitter) or even move around during weekends to do direct sales (giving out flyers, flea markets, etc). You will be amazed at how much extra cash you can make by getting out of the house and selling stuff instead of sleeping/ waking up late and simply watching TV during weekends. In addition, starting a small business will not only help you with saving money but will also build your network that you will be grateful for in the future!

Just remember, whatever you do, keep it legitimate and make sure your health is kept at top priority. Speak with your friends to see if they have other reliable resources and never forget to learn from mistakes. It takes some effort to generate this income, but the fruits of your labour will be SWEET. And don’t forget to share your success stories when you’re done!

Inner Healing for Loneliness

D

o you know that being alone and loneliness are totally two different situations? They are related to one another but occur in different scenarios. For example, you can be with 100 friends at a party and yet you still feel lonely or you can spend your time alone with a book and yet you feel so alive. Does it make any sense to you? Here’s the biggest difference between the two; being alone is entirely physical, whereas being lonely is entirely about lack of connection between self and living. If you get this, the tips on healing loneliness from inside would totally make sense to you. Since loneliness is about lack of connections, to heal loneliness you must know how to connect to living and life. If you think loneliness is all about connecting to the surroundings, you are only half right. Every connection in this life starts with inner and then it moves toward external. I’m going to share the tips on connecting with your inner areas and heal loneliness from the inside. The effectiveness of it will also help you build back your self-esteem and love your own self. All you have to do is to give your best effort to love, listen, feel and live it. Are you ready? The Inner Areas The inner areas refer to your body, mind, emotion and soul. The presence of loneliness always indicates that one or more of these elements are not in harmony in connecting with you. It usually happens when you neglect them for a period of time. There is no shortcut to the activities but even a little of it could give you tremendous healing to your life.

By Rose Osman Known as Your Personal Motivator and also a Reiki Healer. She motivates many people via online and offline since 2010 and has started to include Reiki in her programs since 2012. Her passion is towards energy, love, relationships, personal growth and healing. • Pay attention to your body with exercise. Start simple like a morning walk or basic yoga. Pick healthy food for your meals. Drink lots of water as water improves health. While loneliness takes away life from you, water on the other hand restores life in you. • Connect your mind with positive and inspiring books. Good reading materials expand your knowledge with greatness. For those who do not like to read, create something like writing, drawing or crafting as it will allow the mind to work creatively. Or you can learn something new. • Connect to your emotions through acceptance of the emotions that burden you. You can do this by listing down the emotions that hurt you, followed by the emotions that make you feel better. An important fact is to never judge any of these feelings because they are here to bring a balance in you. Forgive all the emotions that hurt and forgive your own self with love. • Light up your soul with meditation and prayers. Meditation comes in many forms and it is not just about sitting down with your own self. For example, an act of gardening is a form meditation to some people. Prayers on the other hand require specific rituals based on religions.

In healing loneliness, the best connection to build is with love. It is like giving your own self the best present in life; LOVE. The love you give will be returned to you with more love and this will strengthen connections within yourself. Remember this; loneliness is about being unconnected. When you start feeling lonely, find out which connection you are missing. Find it and reconnect back with love and actions. Once the connections are restored, you will feel even more alive than before. Wanna Be Heard? email us today at newsdesk@waveslifestyle.com
