Spring Greetings from Shelly Strasser

Director of Recreation & Community Services Happy Spring! We all know what spring means in relation to the season but the word spring has many other meanings. As a verb, spring means to move or jump suddenly or rapidly, or to rise. As a noun, a spring is a resilient device that can be pressed or pulled but returns to its original form/shape when released. The word spring in those terms relates very well to how the WAWM RCS staff has responded to the pandemic. They have had to rapidly and suddenly change plans and programs that they have created, they have had to rise above the challenges and chaos they faced to continue to deliver programs and services to those that they serve, and they have most definitely shown resilience as they have been pushed, pulled and dragged in many different directions. The one constant with the WAWM RCS staff is that just like a spring, when we return, they will appear to be unchanged and ready to continue to serve our community with the same tenacity, positivity, grit, fun, and determination that was there pre-COVID. Although you may not have heard much from us or about us lately, rest assured that we have been busy planning programs, activities, and events to try and keep everyone active, engaged, and connected. The pandemic has quickly evolved from a sprint, to a 5K, to what seems like a never ending marathon. It has not been all bad though. It has afforded us the luxury of time to plan some new and different classes and activities this spring, such as Hands on Sensory, Fun with Music, Adulting 101 Personal Finances, Strength and Stretch, and more! Although we had originally hoped to print our Spring Activity Guide, we have decided to create an online only guide for spring with the plan to start printing and mailing our Summer Activity Guide out in early April! Be sure to check our website for the spring Activity Guide starting Monday, February 22. We look forward to seeing all of our community members this spring and anxiously await our warm Wisconsin summer.

Locker room attendants are available to assist. Use of cell phones and electronic devices are prohibited in locker rooms per state law. Street shoes are not allowed in the pool area. Shoes must be removed. Clean sandals or slippers may be worn.

Please note: Due to COVID-19 we will be following recommendations from the CDC, Wisconsin DHS, and our local Health Department. Based on those recommendations, the aquatic program format has changed.
