The Cheer Girls
Hamlet Remastered By: Diego Toledo
On, Tuesday February 26th and Wednesday February 27th, 2019 Bravo’s theatre classes put on a show for 5th and 6th period in the lecture hall. With only two weeks of preparation, Bravo’s very own talented theater classes recreated scenes from Shakespeare’s very known play, “Hamlet”. With so much on their hands such as writing the script, directing and acting the theater students managed to put on performances for 5th and 6th period classes. The theater students were very creative with the recreation of a revengeful story. All of the recreated scenes were inspired from many aspects such as culture, television shows, and movies. With all these inspirations and ideas the theater classes managed to put on 16 performances total, with 5th period theater class taking over 5th period and 6th period theater class taking over 6th period. The performances were hosted by the theater classes teacher, Ms.Espinoza, who brought back the class after an entire school year gap without a theatre class. There was a lot of mixed reactions from the audiences as they laughed, smiled, and at times were struck with shock from what they saw. At the end of the performances all the actors were brought down to do a Q&A with the audiences. Two questions that were often asked to the actors were “What was there favorite part about doing this”? and “What was the most difficult part in making this”? I too asked these questions to a former student named Rebecca and her response was “My favorite part of recreating a scene from Hamlet was probably playing a prominent character. I am really shy and just being on stage for more than three lines was a challenge although it was a positive experience on my end. Also, being able to change the script into an 80’s theme was very exciting as my group and I had to search for 80’s slang and we were allowed to use the band, The Smiths as a prominent part of the play! The most difficult part was probably having to get out of my comfort zone as the character i played, Ophelia has some odd lines in the novel in which I had to say in front of an entire audience.” There were so many questions asked to the actors as well as a handful of positive compliments.

On Friday, March 1 the Bravo’s cheer team made their first ever performance this year. Bringing in a huge crowd. The girls called out all the senior girls and boys of the basketball teams to give them each a flower for being their last year of highschool. Right after the performance started and lasted 2 minutes. Once the performance was over the cheer got together to also give flowers to their senior cheer girls.

Face The Truth at Paramount Studios By: Dariana Zuzuarregui On February 28, 2019, STAR and Club MD members along with other students took a field trip to The Paramount Studios to be a part of the “Face The Truth” audience. Bravo Knights experienced the production process of Hollywood shows and got to witness how “Face The Truth” films all of its segments. The chaperones of this trip, Ms. Dypiangco and Ms. Ramirez- De La Cruz, are also the sponsors of STAR and Club MD. Students were told to arrive no later than 7:00am in order to arrive at the Paramount Studios at 8:00am to start filming. Cafeteria workers arrived extra early to prepare delicious lunches for all the students and parents. Upon arrival, students, teachers, and parent chaperones were told to turn in their phones to the producers to protect the privacy of the show and to not leak any content. The host of Face The Truth, Vivica Fox, along with her co-host, Life Coach Rosie Mercado, Dr. Judy Ho, Attorney Areva Martin, and Judge Mary Chrzanowski had a variety of segments. The segments included were Face The truth about lies, Face The Truth about cheating, Face the red hot truth, and Face The Truth about your relationships. The panel of host focuses on helping give a solution to the audience’s problems or concerns. Those problems ranged from relationships and dating, bad habits, parenting, and many more. The show also allowed the audience to give their own opinion by voting on the issue. Bravo Knights had the opportunity to vote and give their own opinion on the matters that were spoken during the show. Students learned techniques on body language and how to detect when someone is lying as well as taking part of the show.

Rand Paul Against a National Emergency

On Sunday March 3rd, 2019 Republican Rand Paul declared his opposition for Trump’s national emergency declaration at the southern border. This ensures the Democratic Senate enough votes to write a measure that will overturn the national emergency. Rand Paul is typically in favor of Mr. Trump’s policies and actions but does not agree with the declaration of a national emergency. “Today, I think he’s wrong, not on policy, but in seeking to expand the powers of the presidency beyond their constitutional limits.” Rand Paul believes a president should not overstep his power as a president. He asked his colleagues to not forget former president, Barack Obama’s, executive power used to implement laws. Republicans are looking to lobby him until the voting does come about. Along with Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and Susan Collins of Maine Rand Paul is one of the few Republican to vote against the national emergency. With his vote Democrats gain the majority needed to write a measure against the declaration. Senate needs four Republican votes to pass it. Democrats will have 51 votes. The measure has already been passed by the Democratic house on Tuesday. Senate must vote on it and pass it as well for it to be issued to the president. Trump has assured his stance on vetoing the said measure. He is looking to spend $3.6 billion to construct a wall at the southern border, claiming the U.S. is at risk because of the influx of illegal immigrants coming into America. Many other Republicans have concerns of Mr. Trump’s breaching of the constitution with his declaration. If President Trump does decide to veto the measure a ⅔ vote by both house and senate must have to take place for the veto to be overturned. It is unlikely for both chambers to vote ⅔. The Michael Cohen Testimony By: Melinda Renteria

On February 27, 2019 Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump’s former lawyer, testified against the incumbent president. Cohen was testifying, essentially in an attempt to prove several incriminating allegations against Donald Trump. It was up to the court and the public to determine and interpret Cohen’s words as Michael had previously been tried and found guilty for fraud and false statements. Throughout the testimony, Michael made a series of very bold allegations, the following are just a few. Michael opened his testimony with saying that Trump was to blame for raising allegations questioning the citizenship of former president Barack Obama. Cohen stated that Trump’s intention was never to protect the integrity of the constitution nor its amendments regulating the presidency, but rather to raise distrust due to race. According to Atlantic.com, “[Trump] had just stated and tweeted unsupportable suggestions that the president had been born overseas and was covering it up.” These reputed allegations only resulted in an investigation of Obama’s “long forms” (a type of extensively detailed birth certificate) because the original birth certificates had been accused of being falsified. Another claim made by Cohen involved the hush payment of the adult film maker, Stormy Daniels. Cohen asserted that Trump asked Michael to write several checks to the actor in order to cover up the affair. Cohen proceeded to go on record saying that Trump said he would pay Cohen back later, but for the time being it would be easier for Michael to write the check. Cohen then demonstrated a copy of check dated on August 1, 2017 for $35,000 signed by himself and Donald Trump. Cohen then continued to say, “this $35,000 check was one of 11 check installments that was paid throughout the year — while he was President.” Cohen’s physical evidence of the check would result in a very notable portion of his testimony. The president’s right hand man definitely had much to say against the incumbent president, much of which is still under investigation.

Venezuela’s Crisis By: Alondra Lopez
Currently Venezuela is facing one of the worst economic crisis in all of Latin America history under the President Nicolas Maduro. This is causing millions of people to leave the country in total desperation in order to get a better life. People are fleeing from dangerous shortages of food, water, electricity, medicine and political crackdowns. This journey involves dangerous roads and extreme cold temperatures. Many mothers are traveling with their children. One woman named Norma Lopez walked with her 6 children one being 6 days old. Damaris Olivarez with 9 children and Jacqueline Reyes with 13 children. Many women are risking their lives and children lives because they also fear that they might get taken away to protect Maduro against Guaido. Many are also traveling with as few of $3.00.People are also so desperate that men offer other men to sleep with their wives for a little bit of cash. Some people try by helping by giving people rides, one man who preferred to not be named risked his livelihood to help people migrate in his truck. But if he were to get caught he can get in trouble with the company and with the police.Others also try to help them by offering food, clothes, baths and water to those that need it. Many pity these people because they see the migrants with no or destroyed shoes causing them to have blisters and lacerations.

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS Elton John’s Oscar Viewing Party By: Rebecca Garza
On February 24th, 2019, Elton John hosted an Oscars viewing party in spite of his AIDS Foundation across the street from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Elton John has an AIDS Foundation in which he puts on various shows to raise money for this important cause. For 27 years now, the famous singer has hosted Oscars viewing parties where celebrities and artists gather for evening dinners, cocktails, and dancing. The event also consisted of watching the Oscars while dining and cheering on celebrity colleagues. After the Oscars concluded on television, more celebrities that were present at the Oscars came over to this event. Elton John put on a small concert for everyone who attended. He was joined by the famous rock band, The Killers, and Taron Egerton who will be playing Elton John in the upcoming film, Rocketman. This event raised a little more over than $68.2 million for the foundation to support people with AIDS/ HIV. Elton John has been advocating for people who are fighting AIDS/HIV since 1992 in the United States and since 1993 in the United Kingdom. According to the “Elton John AIDS Foundation” website, the money raised throughout these events is sent to people who can’t afford treatment and to further research an end to the AIDS epidemic. During his past concert at the Forum, he made sure to advocate this foundation and he also made sure to show how important this foundation is to him through a video of all the amount of work he has put forth. Elton John’s career is booming drastically as he is finishing his farewell tour, he is advocating for his foundation through various scheduled events, and his film Rocketman debuting a second trailer a couple of days before the Oscars containing more footage of the film and Taron Egerton singing prominent songs from Elton John. The trailer went viral on social media on February 21st. The trailer showed Taron Egerton as Elton John and his many looks throughout the years. The trailer also featured songs by Elton John but sang by Taron Egerton, “Yellow Brick Road,” “Bennie and the Jets,” and “Tiny Dancer.” The film is highly anticipated as IMDB has been promoting the new trailer and how fans can start purchasing tickets. Rocketman is set to open in cinemas beginning May 31st. Some of the celebrities who attended this event were Heidi Klum, Chace Crawford, The Killers, Taron Egerton, Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Diana Ross, Quincy Jones, and many more. Taron Egerton and Elton John sang a duet of “Tiny Dancer” while The Killers and Elton John sang “Daniel.” The event also consisted of an auction for a piano from the film The Devil Wears Prada and props from the upcoming film Rocketman. The event was a major success through Elton John’s brilliance and big heart.
The Jonas Brothers are Back!

On Tuesday, February 26th, 2019, Morrissey released a cover song entitled, “It’s Over.” “California Son,” is the title to Morrissey’s new album which will consist of cover songs from various famous singers. “California Son” is the name of his new album which is set to release on May 24th, 2019 consisting of 12 new tracks. These songs are all cover songs sung by Morrissey. Some of the original artists are Jobriath, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Buffy Sainte Marie, Phil Ochs, Roy Orbison, Laura Nyro, Dionne Warwick, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, Carly Simon, Tim Hardin, and Melanie. Morrissey has only released one song, “It’s Over” which was originally sung by Roy Orbison in 1964. He has eleven songs still yet to be released. Morrissey released an album entitled, “Low in High School,” in 2017 and later that year released a deluxe edition of that album with additional songs including one entitled, “Back on the Chain Gang” which was first sung by The Pretenders. According to the website, “NME,” it seems as though this new song is a follow up to the cover song from The Pretenders. It’s possible that Morrissey will take a break from releasing new music and instead will release cover songs. No one knows what this means for Morrissey’s musical career but “Moz fans” are certain it will be successful. Back in 2018, Morrissey had a mini tour in California where he was promoting, “Low in High School.” His concert at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California was a success as it sold out quickly. Before the concert began, an image of Chrissie Hynde who is in fact the lead singer of The Pretenders was broadcasted. This was a prominent image as it was the cover to his latest single in 2017. Fans at the concert cheered and sung along with the artist. Moz fans look forward to his new album!
On February 28, 2019 the Jonas Brothers announced their reunion after their band break up in 2013. For all you Jobro lovers out there, your prayers have been answered. In 2013 the Jonas Brothers on what seems to have been bad terms. When giving interviews the former band-members and band representatives would only comment on the split and state that is was a result of a “deep rift within the band.” The brothers later individually commented on their personal experiences and challenges they faced back in 2013. Joe even went as far as to announce he required multiple therapy sessions in order to overcome this loss. Upon announcing the reunion, the band mates opened up about everything it took in order for them to reconcile. The brothers say that had it not been for the documentary in which they attempt to demonstrate where they came from and where they are now, they would have probably would not be able to “be doing this again”, says youngest band member, Nick Jonas. The Jonas Brothers made their comeback appearance with James Corden’s The Late Late Show, which they later posted on instagram asa teaser to their millions of fans. They then proceeded to release their debut single “Sucker”, which instantly made the number one spot on trending on Youtube. The video starred the band members, Nick Jonas, Joe Jonas, and Kevin Jonas, along with their significant others and spouses, Priyanka Chopra, Sophie Turner, and Danielle Jonas. The brothers have also hinted at a possible reunion tour, so all you JoBros out there stay tuned!!
