The Soundcloud Rapper that Came to Bravo

by: Samantha Soto Last week, “He was causing a scene, backing up traffic...I asked him to move along. He went over to the park…[park coordinators] they asked to leave...goes back to the front of the school” (Bravo security officer). The “He” is also known as DayWay a rapper on Soundcloud with 17.3K followers on Instagram. Dayway made an appearance at Bravo in a black car with a big boombox and a microphone where he attempted to get the students hyped up, and followers for his brand. He left the school, lightly scraping a parent’s car, and jumping into different getaway cars while on the road; yet before he did, he managed to throw an estimated hundreds of dollars (in singles) in the air for the students to get. The reason why he chose to come to Bravo is unknown but many speculate it is because Bravo students invited him to come. In fact the school’s police officer noted, “He’ll put up questions [on instagram] like ‘what school do you want me to go to?’...” Simply by searching up his name on Instagram it is easy to find him showing up to school campuses to throw money and get the students excited. Perhaps the students who invited him into Bravo wanted similar events to occur to get the school spirit going or to get their favorite artist to visit them. Here’s what Dr.Lopez, the Principal, had to say to them, “I would just hope that if anyone is interested in inviting guests...it would be appropriate in some circumstances... but there are ways to do it in a way that it is more controlled and appropriate...I know that this particular rapper has been invited to other schools. I’ve seen his videos and I know that..it is done in an orderly and organized way. So if students are interested in anything they can come to any one of us [school staff] and let us know so we can put it together and have people come over.” Essentially, these things do not have to be done sneakily because the school has a genuine desire to listen to the students needs including one like inviting a rapper to the school. On the other hand, there were some rumors that the rapper had told students, essentially minors, to flash him their chests. However, the staff followed up with the incident and has since found no evidence of that occurring. He has also not been charged with a crime, aside from being a bother because he did leave when they asked him to. “What I can advise...is be careful with this kind of stuff. Flash mobs or people from the outside and you’re there thinking its going to be safe so well push them out...and they go over the gas station...and you guys go and you get hurt... sometimes these guys end up getting robbed because they are out there flashing money...there are gangsters in the area”(Bravo’s police officer). With the encouragement of the principle students should not feel the need to put their lives in danger because it is possible for a compromise to be reached.

The One That Got Away

by: Samantha Soto January 21, 2020 there was a field trip scheduled to the Grammy Museum that Bravo had been invited by the end of the day on the friday before that date. This gave way for a small group of students to attend the field trip, given that there had not been enough time to inform the rest of the school. What is normally a very expensive entrance ticket, $13-15, was free for the few who went on the trip. For the ones that were unable to attend it; the event was comprised of two talk panels and an hour or free reign to explore the museum. The first panel was about placing further emphasis on music therapy for the sick, and the other about music’s impact on AIDS awareness. The first panel included many speakers from all walks of life. For example, Ifunaya Nweke was a speaker and she is the “Founder and Executive Director of an innovative... non-profit organization called Jazz Hands for Autism”(Recording Academy Grammy Museum). While in the panel she talked about her experiences with Autism and how they inspired her to create an organization that would facilitate those in the spectrum to demonstrate their musical talents to the world! The second panel, officially titled “Amplifying Music’s Reach”, had a Moderator and many panelists. Like Harry Grammer, the founder of New Earth a program meant to help people our age that have either been incarcerated or at risk of it. Also, Grammer and the other panelists went through detailed descriptions of the history of AIDS in the LGBT+ community and the rest of the world. In which they linked the surface of music aimed as commentary for the horrific trauma of AIDS to the current stigmatization of the disease and as an instrumental tool to bring awareness.

The Last and Final Season of Criminal Minds

By: Amy Morales After more than a decade of profiling criminals and serving justice, the team at the BAU is finally ready to say goodbye. Criminal minds throughout the years has been a television series that follows a group of behavioral profilers who work for the FBI as members of the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU). For years the show has had characters in and out, but a few have stayed since the beginning. Meaning that season 15 will mark the end of an era for the actors and fans as well. Joe Mantegna (David Rossi), Matthew Gray Gubler (Spencer Reid), Kirsten Vangsness (Penelope Garcia), Paget Brewster (Emily Prentiss), AJ Cook (Jennifer Jareai) and longtime guest star Jane Lynch (who plays Spencer’s superintelligent mom) will return for the crime procedural. The season will deal with a lot of emotional turmoil in the team, but fans have been the most excited for Spencer Reid. Longtime fans are excited for Gubler’s character after the writers of the show announced that he would finally find happiness in his life. Fans know how hard it’s been for him, so hearing that brings in a lot of excitement. In addition to all of the emotions, the show will also continue to deliver action and suspense by entirely shifting their focus on the Chameleon (a serial killer) who was previously seen in the last season. With just 10 episodes, the show is set to end on February 19 with a threeepisode finale. Each remaining episode after January 9 will continue to air on Wednesdays at 9 p.m, except the last three. In case fans miss any episode, they will all be available for streaming on CBS All Access or Amazon Prime.

By Jazmin Anguiano Disneyland continues to expand their imagination as they surprise their fans with the new Rise of the Resistance attraction. This attraction opened in the California and Florida theme park on December 5, 2019. Both LucasFilm and Imaginering corporations outlined the adventurous and captivating attraction. The theme of the ride emerges from a hidden rebel outpost that is in the ancient cavern. The ancient caverns are composed of mark carving meant to foreshadow ancient civilzations. These are measures meant to avoid the First Order Troops who are placed in a temporary base in the stars wars village. The entire attraction consists of four rides that slowly pulls in riders into the movie Star Wars: Galaxy Edge. For a total of twenty minutes the riders enter a world full of action in a setting of fourteen acres. The setting takes place in a rebel military camp outside of Back Spire OutPost Village. Kirstin Makela, art director of Walt Disney Imagineering, compliments features of the ride by acknowledging, “The journey we’re taking you on is really a dream come true for a lot of Star Wars fans. You’re absorbed in the action that’s unfolding before you. We want you to feel like you’re caught up in all of that activity.” Most of the ratings involve the riders commenting, “The journey we’re taking you on is really a dream come true for a lot of Star Wars fans.”The overall satisfaction and attraction availability rates from 90 to 100. Ever since the ride opened, Bob Iger, Disney’s Ceo, anticipates an increase of business benefits. There has been a 5% increase in merchandise, guest spending, and admission. Iger anticipates that the ride will grant many opportunities to improve the potential of the rides and the business of the theme park.

The museum had four floors each with their own emphasis on either awarded musicians, the history of the Grammys and of Music. The second floor was a new exhibit meant to honor the life and work of Amy Winehouse. In glass display cases dresses that the Singer had worn to award shows, concerts, and for her fashion line. The third floor had many interactive activities, including a booth meant to show a person the evolution of music through music players. The fourth floor according to Mr.Sinclair, Bravo’s Technology Coordinator, “had a section about the different centers of music around the United States... you could listen to samples of music...read about New Orleans and Jazz...the Blues...a special exhibit of Cindy Lauper [sang girls just want to have fun].”

The Rise of Resistance not only reveals a world beyond imagination, but it also reveals the history of the development of the planet. The creators intended to informs fans about the Middle Eastern, Greeks and Roman civilizations. The Disneyland theme parks have made another dream in to reality by interwining historical ideas and Star War themes together in order to entertain fans.

The event coordinators offered a CD’s to all attendees. It was produced for and by Parkland high school survivors that sang about social commentary and their trauma. Overall, music proved to be a link to many topics.
