Senioritis: Is it real? By: Noemi Pedraza

As college admission decisions begin to become available, some students have already begun to come down with the seasonal sickness, senioritis. The decline in motivation or performance in the final months of highschool, aka. senioritis, is currently affecting some Bravo students. Students begin to feel burned out and sometimes overwhelmed by the workload they were once able to handle so easily. This can sometimes have an emotional toll on students whether it causes them to feel emotionally drained to the point where they don’t care about their academics or pushes them to the edge of a mental breakdown. Some consequences of senioritis can also result in a decline in grades, constant absences or tardies, and often adopting a dismissive attitude. Bravo Vital Signs was able to talk to some seniors in regards to their experience with senioritis. When we asked Samantha Soto, a fellow Vital Signs staff member, she said “ I feel like since I started my senior year my motivation to do my homework when I get home is gone completely. I find myself staring at the ceiling and worrying about all the missing assignments and homework due the day after, and yet I make no movements to finish my work. It’s like someone else has taken control of my body and my grades and I am hopeless to stop it.” James Garcia, one of the many students still waiting on college admission decisions, stated, “ Senior year has been a roller coaster of emotions. I feel like I can’t control anything. Everything is happening too fast. I don’t know what I’m going to do in four months. I just feel like my life is ending I don’t want to grow up. I want to stay in high school, I don’t want to be an adult. Adulthood scares me”. Aside from Bravo students, we also made to ask Bravo’s college advisor, Mr. Maletz. “Senioritis is real. I can tell you from all my years as college advisor every year it occurs. And it’s something that can be avoided, says Mr. Maletz, And if you know that it’s coming, I think one of the, you know, one of the things you can do is, is be proactive and, and remind yourself that the schools are going to ask for your grades. They will ask for your second semester grades or first semester in your final transcripts. And yeah, there’s nothing else I could say but you know, realize that they’re going to ask for it and plan accordingly.”

SAT Tips Written by: Diego Toledo On April 9th, 2020 Bravos juniors will be taking the SAT in assigned areas at school. The wait is over and the most talked about test is here ! The SAT is a college admissions test taken nationwide by every highschool student. Since the day we started school it’s felt for many that this is the test everyone’s been preparing for. This thought can become heavy and a burden of worry for most teens which can cause some to crash on test day or tense up when it comes. Lucky for you there is absolutely no need to panic as there is a way to prepare for the SAT. Today we’ll discuss what you can do to ease your nerves and prepare for the test. The night before can be a handful when all your thinking about is the outcome of tomorrow’s test. We’ll worry no more but instead let your brain rest a day before the test. Ease your mind with a book or a jog or even hanging out with friends. Avoid screen time on your phones and television for this can keep you from getting a good night sleep. Remember that sleep is an essential part of being ready and will keep you alert on test day. On test day make sure to arrive at school early and to munch up on a nutrition meal and drink water. Also avoid nervous people because that energy is contiguous and you don’t want to ruin your state of peace. Practice breathing exercises and know everything will be okay ! On the actual test don’t stress. General advice would be to not leave any question blank, use your time wisely, double check your answers, and most importantly trust yourself when answering a question. For reading sections don’t over-annotate for doing so can overwhelm your thoughts. Another tip is reading the questions before starting the actual reading so you know what you’re looking for. With essays you want to get straight to the point and answer the questions don’t state your opinions. As for the math sections, do the medium and easy questions first because focusing on the hard ones for too long can hold you back from finishing up. Democratic Candidates going after Bloomberg Written by: Luz Sandoval

On Wednesday February 5,2020 the democratic presidential candidates attacked one another but specially on Bloomberg on Wednesday night. Ms. Warren starts off at an opening Broadside going against Bloomberg by saying “I’d like to talk about who we’re running against: a billionaire who calls women fat broads and horse-faced lesbians” and she says “I’m not talking about Donald Trump, I’m talking about Mayor Bloomberg” this quote made Bloomberg look weak and other candidates had more to say. Warren demanded a percentage of how many women employees worked in his media organization,he made himself look bad responding with “didn’t like the joke I told”.After Bloomberg had nothing to defend himself, Warren stated that the Democratic party wouldn’t win the election with a president that doesn’t fight for women’s rights and right away Mr.Biden steps in having more to say “All the Mayor has to say is, You are released from the N.D.A.,period”. Clearly throughout the night, the democratic candidates were attacking each other, and each trying to prove they are better than the others.

Up dates on the Corona Virus Written by: Luz Sandoval Updates on the coronavirus more than 76,200 people in China and 26 other countries are infected,2 deaths have occurred in the Diamond princess cruise liner. Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported that the people who boarded this ship and were in their 80’s that have contracted the virus and a few days later they all died. The diamond cruise ship is not letting any passengers off unless they have no symptoms or have been tested negatively. The data has shown that at least 600 people or more have tested positive and are being transported back to Japan’s hospital. Iran they have reported that there were 2 new cases that go infected by the corona virus and later 2 were dead. Recording to Iran they were dead from being old or for being a veteran, but later it was confirmed that they were infected by the coronavirus and now 27 are infected by the virus.China and Hong Kong are the top two deads from the virus. Our president Donald Trump said to Xi “he was doing a good job” because he’s been trying his best to help china. “He added that the United States was “working with him and helping him as of the last few days.” The White House offered our help to China but then turned down and didn’t want help. As this problem is going on in countless factories in China as workers are concerned and scared from this outbreak virus in china, many workers are afraid so now in China they’re cuting the working hours. By cutting the working hours that menas less products are being produce the economy will go down and will affect other countries.

SONIC MOVIE REVIEW Written by: Isabel Reynoso

TO ALL THE BOYS P.S. I STILL LOVE YOU Written by: Izcalli Hernandez

Released February 14, 2020 Sonic the Hedgehog was released on the Friday of last week, Valentine’s Day. The movie had actually gotten an extremely rocky start when they released the first trailer. As soon as people found out a New Sonic movie was coming out they were quick to judge. Instead of the cartoony style that sonic usually appears in , they decided to switch it up and make a 3D live-action version. They made his character a bit too realistic, and with odd features that the original Sonic didn’t have at all. One of them being human-like hands without his gloves, and human-like teeth. He appeared very creepy and the internet seemed to find this hilarious. Almost over the course of 2 days this new Sonic became a viral meme. So much as to the point that the creators actually decided to create a whole new Sonic to combat the hate they were getting. This new Sonic looked closely like the blue hedgehog we all originally fell in love with. The internet now approved.Fast forward to the 14th, I decided to watch this movie with a few friends. The story is all about Sonic’s origin and the adventures he goes on to become the current Sonic many of us are familiar with today. The movie is obviously created for kids, but it was still watchable as a teen. There were a few parts that made the whole audience cringe though. Such as one scene where he flosses. This is a very old dancing trend and the audience (even the younger children) did not approve of it. Other than the few cringe parts the rest of the movie was actually pretty average, just like the actors. The end of the movie did leave it open for a 2nd part when Tails made an appearance, so I do wonder what the creators have in store for us. Overall, I can still really appreciate the time and effort they put into creating a new Sonic and editing all the old scenes just to please their viewers.

Celebrating Valentineś Day is usually a special and magical day for those celebrating the holiday. But this year many fans of the film and book trilogy of ¨To All the Boys I´ve Loved Before¨ experienced an extra special Valentineś day because of the new film,¨To All the Boys P.S. I Still Love You,¨ which was released on February 12 of 2020 by the streaming service Netflix. To understand the second film it is important to know what happened in the first film. In the first film the main character, Lara Jean(portrayed by Lana Condor), has found herself embarrassed and mortified when she discovers her sister had sent out her secret love letters she had written for John Ambrose(portrayed by Jordan Fisher), a classmate from elementary, Peter Kavinsky(portrayed by Noah Centineo), Lara Jeanś first kiss, Lucas Krapf(portrayed by Trezzo Mahoro), her date to a school a dance, Josh Sanderson(portrayed by Israel Broussard), her childhood best friend, and Kenny Dontai, a boy she met at camp. Peter Kavinsky and Lara Jean begin a false relationship with each other in order for Peter to make his ex-girlfriend jealous and to make sure that Lara Jeanś current crush, Josh Sanderson believes the letter was a misunderstanding, because he is dating Lara Jeanś sister at the moment. Skipping the drama and tears Peter and Lara Jean eventually start dating officially and live happily ever after, that is until the second film. In the second film Lara Jean receives a letter from John Ambrose in response to her love letter; in the letter he tells Lara Jean that he too had feelings for her but didn’t believe that anyone could like him. Learning this information, Lara Jean finds herself in a quandary with herself and her feelings causing troubles in her relationship with Peter as she finds herself becoming closer to John Ambrose as they bond during their service at a retirement home. Many fans were brought to tears and laughter as they watched the film when characters were faced with heartache or of Lara Jean adorably embarrassed herself. However, some fans were not as pleased with the film due to changes made that were not in the book. For instance, a reader of the books from Bravo stated that there were some parts of the book that she would have liked to see in the film and other parts that were incredibly inaccurate from the book or did not even happen in the book. Many fans were also upset due to Lara Jean choosing Peter instead of John Ambrose because John Ambrose is kinder and had more in common with Lara Jean than Peter and some will argue that John Ambrose actually cared about Lara Jean unlike Peter. Nonetheless, most fans were delighted by the cheesy aspects of the adorable romantic comedy. From the cliche romance between Peter, the popular jock, and Lara Jean, the dorky and relatable protagonist. Some may say the film is unrealistic and too much of a cliche but the point of the film is to show a magical and sunny side of romance, which is exactly what they did. In the end, Peter and Lara Jean’s relationship was saved because of their strong and passionate love for each other creating a warm and happy ending.
