Dare to Dream By: Melinda Renteria
On Thursday, March 28, 2019, the Bravo Knights cheerleaders waved their pom-poms as they lined the path welcoming their fellow Bravo Knights along with two other neighboring high schools who were invited to the University of Southern California health campus in order to partake in the girls’ Dare to Dream campaign. The Dare to Dream campaign was a project created to empower women to follow their dreams and achieve the goals they have set in front of them. The participants were mainly 11th grade young ladies as the campaign geared to empower young women preparing for their future. Upon entering, the participants were given a small drawstring bag, inside was the book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey. The book explains step-by-step how to incorporate and plan using the seven habits to have a successful outcome. The all day field trip consisted of a series of conferences, lectures, and presentations. One of the groups focused on deciphering and building healthy relationships from toxic ones, meanwhile another was geared more towards being financially prepared for the future. As the day came to a close, the young women were asked to create a dream board using pictures of what they expected or planned for their life to look like in ten years, being told that having a visual representation of their goals would allow them to have a constant reminder of them and therefore allow them to work harder to achieve the goals. When asked about the experience, Jennifer Jimenez, 11th grade Bravo Knight, commented, “It was an overall eye-opening experience which empowered young women to pursue their dreams.”
Prom Court

On Tuesday April 2nd, 2019, the nominees for prom king and queen were introduced, outside the cafeteria during lunch. It’s almost the end of the journey for our fellow senior knights and along this journey comes one night and that’s prom night, where they come together as one to make the last of there memories just before there off into the adult world. Along with this night will born two royals the prom king and queen. The nominees are now in and they have been fighting for votes to claim the throne at prom night. On Tuesday, they took their last stand hoping to get more votes to win. During their last rally, the nominee’s were asked various questions such as their hopes and dreams, there inspirations, and why people should vote for them. The nominees for prom king would be John McCullough, Adrian Hernandez, Alexander Naves (Philly), and Ricardo Martinez. The nominees for prom queen are Alejandra Calvo, Yulianna Hernandez, Juny Ardon, and Prescilla Rodriguez. The big surprise of who wins will have to wait until Saturday and good luck to all are nominees.
“The 28th Annual Dances of the World Show” By; Diego Toledo
On Thursday, April 4th 2019, Dances of the World held its 28th annual show in the lecture hall. With many days of preparation and dedication, Dances of the World held its annual show performing for 2nd period, 4th period, and after school. The audiences were exposed to many dances from various cultures around the world such as Russian, Indian, Latin America, Arabian, Chinese, and others more. The show was a hit and teachers themselves got a spot on the dance floor. The show wasn’t only entertaining but educational for the audience to get to know more about each other, besides Bravo is a diverse school. Good job to our performers, Ms. Cobian, and the many more that made the show possible.

Trump Speaks at the Prison Reform Summit By: Viviana Villafuerte
On Monday April 1, 2019 President Donald Trump enforced his intentions to make a Second Step Act that would decrease the high unemployment rate for people with a criminal record at a celebration of the First Step Act in the East Room of the White House. People with a criminal record find it difficult to find new jobs after they have served time. Trump plans on reducing the unemployment rate for people with a criminal record within five years. The details are not set in stone yet but the next fiscal year will provide more than $500 million towards helping prisoners accommodate after their release from prison. Donald trump was accompanied on stage by some former prisoners. These prisoners, as have many others, have received help due to the First Step Act. The FIrst Step Act was passed just last year in order to reinforce rehabilitation efforts of ex-prisoners and to give judges more discretion when dealing with cases about drug offenders. Both the Democrats and Republicans supported the First step Act in great numbers. The act also aimed to lessen the sentence for minor drug offenses and to reduce the rate at which of past criminals from committing other crimes. Donald Trump claims that since the First Step Act has gone into effect 16,000 inmates have signed up for drug treatment programs.

Boeing’s Accident By Jeanette Garcia
On March 10,2019 Boeing had it’s second plane crash of the 737 Max aircraft in just less than two months. The plane only reached 2,000 feet above ground before it crashed after 8 minutes of takeoff. It bring lots of concern from the people of which type of plane they will boarding. All countries grounded their aircrafts when they heard the news. A total of 157 people were killed. The information of why the accident happen hasn’t been confirmed and giving little to no information about it. Investigator are suggesting that it might of been a software malfunction. Their shares went down a 13% in the New York trading. They ruled out that it could of possibly been a terrorist attack or a pilot suicide. The accident could of been caused by a pilot error. United Airlines stated that the Boeing 737 Max aircraft is safe to use and the pilots are properly trained to fly the aircraft.

ICE Raid in Texas Technology Company By: Viviana Villafuerte
280 immigrant employees were arrested by ICE at a technology repair company in Collin County. It has been more than a decade since there’s been an ICE raid this large in the U.S. ICE had been given tips since January 2019 that the company had employed illegal immigrants. They had been informed that many of them used false identification documents. The company’s 1-9 forms filled out by the illegal immigrants had many discrepancies. Many family members cam after hearing word of the ice raid. They wanted to know what happened and some were emotional over happened. ICE reported that the immigrant workers would all be interviewed in order to note any humanitarian situation. Once taken into account ICE will determine if they would be released on a humanitarian release. ICE also said that they would need all of their fingerprints to keep them on record. Those practices will take some time because the nationalites, ages, and determination of any criminal record are still yet to be recorded. Katrina W. Berger, a special agent in charge for ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations in Dallas said, “As far as immigration-related arrests, this is the largest ICE worksite operation at one site in the last 10 years”. She also stressed the idea that their main goal is to focus on any criminal records that the illegals may have. She also said that immigration laws are in place to make sure that everybody get a far chance to obtain a job and to make sure that companies also have fair competition as well. Berger went on to say that immigrants are often abused in the workforce and their safety is important to preserve.
On Friday 15, 2019 New Zealand was faced with a mass shooting. The incident happened at the Christan church mosque where the 28 year old suspect Brenton Harrison Tarrant opened fire killing 50 people and critically injuring 50 others. The police were able to arrest him by ramming his vehicle and they believed that he would of done a third attack if he wouldn’t of been stopped. People are devastating by the loss of their families and the families of others and others are extremely angry.
A women’s group claimed that they had been trying to warn the government about increasing hate toward Muslims for the past 3 years and until this day no action was taken. 2 victims from the shooting said that they received 2 bloody pig heads just for being Muslim. The government has reacted to the shooting by tightening gun control and banning semi automatic rifles . People fear that this will lead to a government crackdown , heavy surveillance and possibly police harassment. The prime ministers reported that she doesn’t want the suspects name to be mention and that people should focus on the victims and to hold the memory of those that were lost. She also doesn’t want the suspect to revive any attention because the gunman opened fire to get internet fame and to spread hate. Earlier before the attacking Harrison posted a link on Facebook where the video would be available.

It’s official, the Woodstock Festival 2019 will be celebrating its 50th anniversary on August 16th, 17th, and 18th with a crazy lineup. This year Woodstock will be taking place in Upstate New York. Tickets are rumored to be going on sale starting April 22nd. Many may know of the Woodstock Festival that took place in 1969. This was a prominent protest as bands and fans gathered together in protesting the Vietnam war. Some of the significant bands that performed that day included: Santana, Grateful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Country Joe and Fish, Sha Na Na, Jimi Hendrix, and many others. Country Joe and the Fish sang a specific song of theirs entitled, “I feel like I’m fixin to die rag” which was a very prominent song that protested the Vietnam war. It spoke of questions regarding the purpose of the war and its uselessness in sending men to die for a not-so-significant purpose. Woodstock was originally known for its popular rock culture and its time period the “hippie era.” There have been other Woodstock festivals that have occurred especially in the years: 1979, 1989,1994,1999, and 2009. Now, in 2019, Woodstock is coming back for its 50th anniversary. Woodstock has taken a turn on it’s purpose. After the Vietnam war, the festival focused on the thought of unity especially during times of political crisis. This year, the event has a mix in genres from rock to rap. Prominent bands who appeared in the first ever event will be performing once again at this festival. This includes John Fogerty who will performing representing Creedence Clearwater Revival, Carlos Santana representing Santana, and three members from Grateful Dead. Audiences are fortunate enough to still carry that rock vibe into the festival as Woodstock has also scheduled famous rock artists such as The Killers, Robert Plant, The Zombies, Young the Giant, and other rising rock/ indie artists. “Woodstock 50” does spread throughout three days including August 16th, August 17th, and August 18th. On March 21st, 2019, Apple Television released another episode of Carpool Karaoke featuring actors Taron Egerton and Richard Madden who will be starring in the upcoming film Rocketman. Rocketman is set to release on May 31st, 2019. Taron Egerton, known for his roles in films such as Kingsman, Sing, and Robinhood will be playing the role of Elton John. Meanwhile, Richard Madden, who is known for his roles in shows like Game of Thrones and The Bodyguard as well as films such as Cinderella and Romeo and Juliet, will portray the role of John Reid who is rumored to be Elton John’s lover in the film. Rocketman was filmed in the United Kingdom as Elton John is originally from there and in this particular episode, both actors drive around London explaining and expanding on significant areas where popular events have occured. The actors also sing songs from of course Elton John as well as David Bowie and George Michael. This is the second season of Carpool Karaoke which episodes run approximately 20 minutes long. Celebrity guests sing their choice of songs while asking question to one another regarding their promotions. James Corden was originally the one to come up with this brilliant and entertaining idea as he has his late night talk show and includes this segment with various artists and actors. Corden originally had a segment where the Elton John was featured. Corden and John sang various songs from Elton John while Corden asked John questions pertaining to John’s farewell tour and his newest album. The film Rocketman is based on Elton John’s fantasies as well as his growing fame. This film is similar to Bohemian Rhapsody which is a story featuring the fame of the rock band Queen. The film also stars Bryce Dallas Howard, daughter of Ron Howard and has appeared in popular films such as Jurassic World, and is set to portray Sheila Eileen, Elton John’s mother. As the film release date comes closer, more promotions for the film start to rise. The episode regarding this film is filled with tons of laughter and receives many praises as the two actors have incredible chemistry. “South Central: The Death of Nipsey By: Dariana Zuziarregui
Ermias Asghedom, professionally known as Nipsey Hussle, was a songwriter and rapper who influenced many young African American boys in South Central. In a neighborhood where mostly all the residents of south central are economically unstable. The New York Times stated “Hussle represented hope in a neighborhood of dreams dashed by decades of violence and economic despair.” On March 31s, 2019, rapper Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed in front of his clothing store in South Central. According to The New York Times, Hussle had a dispute with another rapper, Eric Holder, in which resulted in an argument and confrontation. The chief of police stated, “we believe this to be a dispute between Mr. Hussle and Mr. Holder,” he said, declining to elaborate. “We believe they were known to each other.” Although Nipsey Hussle was in a gang, he sought after a different life for himself and started making music, influencing many young kids to pursue their dreams. Nipsey Hussle gave back to the community in which he was born and raised, learning from his past mistakes. Hussle invested in businesses in South Central, started businesses, and helped build better parks for his community. Because Nipsey Hussle was such an influential symbol in his community, most residents of his community took the death hard. Living in South Central has its cons, when it comes to fearing your own life in the comfort of your neighbors. South Central is highly known as a dangerous area to live. With constant police car sirens roaring through the streets and helicopters surrounding the sky, for what feels like, every second. Constant crimes and car chases, it can be a neighborhood worth fearing. No one should have to fear their life when walking home, to the store, to the neighbor’s house, or walking home from school.
