WORLD HIJAB DAY! By Fariha Anwar On February 1st 2021, people from around the world, especially Muslim women, come together to celebrate the significance and commitment of Muslim women who dedicate their appearance to wearing a hijab. Hijab, in connotation terms, is a garment worn to conceal the hair, breast and skin. But hijab for others simply means modestly and perseverance. Although there is a specific type of hijab for men and women, hijab day focuses on women specifically, because of their struggles and stories they have faced when wearing them.
Image provided by USA Today College Wearing a hijab is celebrated because it requires lots of dedication. Females must start to wear hijab when their menstruation cycle begins. There are many principles when it comes to women being modest. They must cover all skin and hair but can leave the face and hands seen. This is the most important principle in Islam because the hijab is used to concel a
woman’s featural parts in order to preserve their beauty to their significant other. They’re inner self must also be hijab, meaning if they are being modest on the outside, they must also be on the inside. Their clothing must be loose and appropriate to wear. Wearing tight clothes reveals the shape of one's body which is close to showing skin. Women can only show hair and skin around their husbands and immediate family (ones they cannot

heir hardships. Wearing hijab is not an easy task. Conflicts such as the heat, the islamophobia, and political views come into their situation. They pick out with fabric and color would be best to wear during the heat or the cold weather. Wearing a hijab requires confidence, and of course for many young females, it is hard to fit in and have confidence. This is why many Muslim women learn to normalize their looks and not care about what others think. It is 2021, what can they do?

Wearing hijab is an act of worshiping God in public spaces which takes so much courage. They are a symbolism of spiritual and physical modesty and represent honor.

Photo by: AACRAO It is important that we celebrate Black History Month to learn from society’s mistakes and avoid making similar mistakes in the future. We must cherish, honor, and celebrate the history of the Black community and the individuals who have made large contributions to the world. Therefore, I will be highlighting Ibram X. Kendi, a book writer, anti-racist, professor, and essayist.
Education: Kendi had initially aspired to become a sports journalist, therefore, when he attended Florida A&M University, he majored in journalism. He interned for USA Today Sports Weekly and the sports sections of the Mobile Register and Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Although he dedicated his time to sports journalism, he became passionate about racial justice work which led him to major in African American Studies. Eventually, he attended graduate school and earned his doctoral degree in African American Studies. Ever since he worked as a professor in several institutions before landing at Boston University.
Early Life: Work: Ibram X. Kendi was born Ibram X. Kendi has produced in New York City in 1982 to Carol various works ranging from
academic journals to books which include The Journal of African American Studies, Journal of Social History, The Black Campus Movement, Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You. I have had the chance of reading Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You which was a fascinating and captivating book. I have always enjoyed reading about the social history of the United States and learning how past events and individuals have impacted contemporary society. The book made me realize the amount of history I have not been taught by the school system. My mind was also blown by the realization of the long history of racism and its founders. The book did an excellent job of connecting events together and I definitely recommend reading it.
like The Late Night Show with Stephen Colbert and the Today show. Kendi has worked to expose the issues that the Black community faces and the origin of these issues. Therefore, with this article, I hope to honor and appreciate Kendi’s hard work and brilliant character!

COVID-19 UPDATES -Date: February 09, 2021-
The drastic change that COVID-19 took starting from 2021 may come to an end with the new vaccine that has been out. A vaccine was reported to be created and approved through the last month of 2020 but was later taken into action in the January 2021. About 4,914,630 doses have been administered. Since then many results have occurred and reported.
The COVID-19 vaccination may have negative effects like any other vaccine. Some of these negative effects are: ● Pain ● Fever ● Headache ● Nausea ● Joint pain ● Fatigue After receiving the COVID-19 vaccine the patient is usually monitored for about 15 minutes to see the patient’s reaction. The COVID-19 vaccine is separated in two doses meaning that the patient needs to go twice to receive the vaccine in order to be fully vaccinated.
-By: Kayla ObregonIf the patient experiences negative effects from the vaccine more than 2 days then they have to self-isolate and get tested. The CDC has recommended that the COVID-19 vaccines should be first offered to: ● Health Care Personnel ● Ages 65 and older ● Adult residents of long-term facilities ● Essential workers Overall, the COVID-19 vaccine has been creating change and it is now in the hopes of seeing how it will affect the future in a long-term.
Los Angeles Covid Cases Decreasing? BY: CARLOS VILLALBA
When dealing with a pandemic, it’s really hard for some people to stay inside to help control the rise in infections. In Los Angeles, it seemed to get worse and worse by the day. Fortunately enough, we are decreasing in Covid infections, hospitalizations, and deaths. As of the last week of January, every day has seen less Covid spread since this whole pandemic started.
We will still need to have more consideration about reopening non-essential businesses back up, but it’s really hard for those owners who need to understand that opening their businesses too soon might make more people ill with this virus.

Impeachment Trials on Ex-President Trump By Maimuna Chowdhury
Rep. Jamie Raskin decided to make hard accusations on the second day of former president Donald Trump’s Senate impeachment trial. He mentioned ex-President Trump was no innocent bystander, showing evidence from Jan 6 that he clearly incited the insurrection. Trump told them, ‘to fight like hell’ and new security footage and police radio audio to connect President trump directly to the violence created on January 6. Rep. Jamie Raskin also states, “it will show Donald trump surrendered his role as commander- in -chief and became the inciter-in-chief of a dangerous insurrection,” On cnn.com, there is further footage of mobs
coming dangerously close to Pence, Mitt Romney, and other footage of other senators coming close to rioters. However, there was a hero established in all this…it showed Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman passes Mitt Romney and redirects him from the rioters’ path before continuing to the first floor to respond to the breach. He was awarded a Congressional Gold Medal for his courage. On Saturday, February 14 results came in that Trump again was acquitted. It showed that a president that “violates his oath of office can escape punishment if he bullies enough senators into standing by him.”
However, this time there were seven republicans that joined the 50 democrats to convict him. Even though they didn’t meet the 67 needed to be guilty, it was 6 more republicans than in the 2020 impeachment trials. It certainly is different this time around as only a few republicans rushed to his defense. Still many were afraid of the electoral consequences they would face if they crossed the former president. Trump still tried his best to play the victim stating, ‘yet another phase of the greatest witch hunt in the history of our country’ and that ‘no president has ever gone through anything like it.”
