Josh Romaker the owner of The Star Spangled Brewing Co. was on hand to celebrate the grand opening of his second Clarksville location, which is located downtown on Spring Street.

Romaker has invested in a larger brew system, which is located on the property. The new location offers a dozen brews, including IPAs, Dark Ales, and American Lagers from taps that flow from the back of an Airstream camper.

“We wanted to have a taproom downtown, close to the new convention center,” Romaker said. “This taproom is decorated with a 1970’s family camping atmosphere. We pride ourselves on being family-friendly, as well as dog friendly. We encourage you to bring the kids, come on out and have a good time.” Josh Romaker

A LOOK INSIDE THE AJAX TURNER 50+ ACTIVITY CENTER

When poeple first learn about the Ajax Turner 50+ Acitivity Center the instinctual presumption is that it is an elderly home, but that is not the case. The 50+ Activity Center is a pivotal part of the senior community here in Clarksville. It is a place where individuals over the age of 50 can come during the day and enjoy classes, activities and companionship. It is a safe place where strangers turn into friends and friends turn into family.

“Here at the Clarksville Ajax Turner 50+ Activity Center our members have a good time. We host a wealth of programs to accommodate everyone’s need. Our members can learn many new skills from playing guitar to navigating the internet. The Senior Center enables the physical health of our members with a variety of exercise and fitness classes, such as chair exercise or utilizing the exercise room. Members can practice for our bi-monthly pool tournaments in the pool room. We have support groups, Bible study classes. The Center celebrates special events and birthdays monthly, as well. It would be fair to say with so many choices of activities and classes, our members are never bored,” says Jan Holleman, Marketing Director.

The center’s friendly and fun atmosphere is one of the things that sets them apart. “We are all very much a family. We help each other. Our staff goes above and beyond to help our members with any problems or difficulties that they may be having. Our center was started as a multi-

purpose facility to provide services for those over 50 that will enhance their lives,” says Jan.

In addition to various activities they also provide helpful resources for their members. One being the phone reassurance which is a phone call to anyone who is homebound and would like a phone call either to just talk to someone or to have someone check on them to make sure they are okay.

When walking through the facility and hearing the conversations being had and the laughter throughout, its easy to see how important this facility is to our community. It gives those over 50 a safe place to go throughout the day to enjoy themselves and keep their bodies and minds active.

The center provides both breakfast and lunch daily. They offer a free, hot breakfast daily and their lunches are served hot Monday-Friday for a cost of $5 if you are a member, $10 for non-members. “Many of our members attend each day. They quickly realize there is a place for them. There is somewhere they can go and be with other people and, most importantly, make friends and feel welcome. We provide a place that gives them a fun day and a reason to smile.”

“Our members can enjoy a free breakfast, have a fun morning with the program of their choice, have a hot lunch, and finish the afternoon shopping in our thrift store, learning a new skill, or just socializing with friends. We have a large facility that has a little bit of everything and something for everyone,” says Jan Holleman.

The center also houses the “Senior Circle of Friends” Adult Day Center. It is a non-medical on-site respite care center that offers services to senior adults with physical or emotional challenges. For more information, call 931-648-1345.

One of the best parts of the center is the various activities they offer.

A few of these include:

• Exercise Classes • Ceramics • Sewing and Quilting • Bible Studies • Spanish lessons • Guitar Lessons • Technology Classes • Large Billards Room

Our office has state of the art equipment to provide the patient with the most comfortable experience possible.
