Welcome Reception for APSU President Dr. Michael Licari

Story & Photography by Tony Centonze The Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce recently hosted a Welcome Reception for APSU’s new President, Dr. Michael Licari and his wife Kirsten, an opportunity for a meet and greet with local business and community leaders.

“I’m really looking forward to getting the life and vibrancy back to campus,” Licari said. “We’ll be back working in person as of June 1st , and then of course we’re looking forward to Fall, when we’ll have students back in the classrooms, in the residence halls, and once again engaged in all the activities that this wonderful campus is able to provide. We’re really looking forward to that.”

After 1-1/2 years of disruption by the pandemic, Licari is hopeful for a seamless transition back to normal campus life. “We’ll do our best to restart, there might be some instances where we have to shake people out of their complacency,” Licari said. “Most of them are in the habit of getting out of bed, putting on their sweat pants, and opening their laptops to take a class or go to work. There will have to be a redoubled effort to get that campus-life energy back. It will be some work, but everyone is very excited.

“Kirsten and I have found Clarksville and Montgomery County to be absolutely wonderful. This reception this morning is just another indicator of how tremendous this community has been in welcoming us with open arms. Everyone has been so engaging, and helpful. It has been great.”
