Letter From The Editor/Team We're Back! Welcome back! Yes we took a 3 month break to build and enhance Vandala! We moved and created the magazine onto its own website to keep our fans informed the past few months. Vandala Concepts and Vandala Magazine are now separate. The new Vandala Magazine site will be our trial site to see what fans, artists, our writers, PR agents, label and ourselves require out of a site. Once were established we will build a special custom site - A FEW CUSTOM features are in the works also. What does this mean? We will have daily news, new releases and more on the site ALONG with our monthly flip magazine with interviews reviews and more. This also means that past issues are easy to find and search along with anything such as artists you want to look up. Heck you can search a genre and a list will come up. Some other features are photo galleries, daily posts, concert listings, and everything is organized so it's easy to find. So feel free to let us know what you would like to see! Vandala also is taking submissions from freelance writers from around the world now (For details and guidelines email vandalaOvandalaconcepts.cc ) I

One thing in this process is that we saw how dedicated our fans are - no official launch and yet you found us! Now in official launch we are excited for this expansion. WE THANK OUR FANS WORLDWIDE!!! What better way to re-launch the flip magazine than with the Jezebels on the cover. Lana. Nimmons finally caught up with Hayley Mary who is the lead vocalist from the Jezabels. One of the nicest people in the industry Haley gave a in depth interview where she talks about her career as a vocalist and it's burdens, how they're fresh off tour with the Pixies and Depeche Mode, and their new album "The Brink". Things got a little deep when we started to pin point their transition from "indie" to pop, and what makes a good pop artist. Check it out on Page 30. 2014 is just heating up for us and this month we have some greet industry articles, interviews along with our album reviews, news and more! Stay Tuned for so much more from Vandala!

Scythia "...Of Conquest" (Progressive Metal) www.scythia.ca Review by Lana Nimmons - 4.7/5 Dragons Scythia 's third full-length album, ...Of Conquest, is dark, fast, while blending progressive and power metal, to folk and melodic death metal, and the composition is absolutely breathtaking. For a while now I've been trying to form words to describe what kind of album this is. This album is one anthem after another, where you will not be able to resist singing along. They have become the Dropkick Murphy's of the metal scene. Their masterfully intertwining heavy guitar riffs, Bruce Dickinson like vocals, rapid fire rhythm section, epic anthems, and lush storytelling, Scythia continues to break new ground in the metal genre. ..Of Conquest is by far Scythia's best album, they have gone from a 12 year old single malt to a 25 year one. This is one of a kind album that whether you are a metal fan or not you instantly are drawn to it's movie score like qualities. From being sinful merchants drinking ale at a tavern to going on massive adventures (yes it made me want to see the hobbit again), ...Of Conquest gives us a little of everything we could think of. You will not be able to skip a single song, this is one EPIC tale: and you won't want to miss one bit.

Bobaflex " Charlatan's Web" (Rock) www.theofficialbobaflex.com Review by Crystal Lee - 4.5/5 Dragons Generally I keep my reviews short but this album needs a little more attention. Charlatan's Web is an album where you have a mix of dirty, gritty classic rock songs mixed up with a touch of metal. There are some songs that are very dark in content which would be common in metal though have some positive undertones thus a perfect album for rock and metal fans alike . Highlights of course was the song " Bad Man". This is where the gritty and sexy meet. Right off the bat I could see this song in so many TV shows I watch and a few movies. Just like bad boys this song also is very sexy and irresistible to listen to. The lyrics like "I can snap my fingers turn your glass house into sand, Exorcise your demons with the back of my hand" just flow perfectly. Add in the guitar you got a hit. There are many songs such as "Walking in The Dark" that I enjoyed though "I'm Glad your Dead" was my favorite on the album. It is eloquently melodic, morally questionable but feel good song. Even though the content is what some would call crude, I sang along right away. Deep down I felt bad but then it disappeared by the second course. Who hasn't felt this way? This song shows Bobaflex is the band whose songs are the words we all think but never say. The main thing is they do it well with excellent instrumentation and rock sound! 08 VandataMagazine.Corn - February 2014

Ayreon "The Theory of Everything" (Progressive) www.arjenlucassen.com Rating 5/5 Dragons I definitely did not expect Ayreon to release anything new so his new opus "The Theory of Everything" caught me by surprise. It is a 2 album, 22 track gapless album that goes on for well over an hour and is chuck full of grog goodness. Even though most songs are transition songs that last an average of one minute there are some like "The Theory of Everything part 1" that can be considered complete stand-alone songs. The production value is off the hook and as to be expected, the keyboards play the main role. The guest musicians featured on the album range from Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater) to legends such as Rick Wakeman (ex-Yes), Steve Hacket (ex-Genesis) and Keith Emerson (Emerson, Lake & Palmer). Being a rock opera of epic proportions, Christina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil), Tommy Karevik (Kamelot), Marco Hietala (Nightwish) and even John Wetton (Asia, ex-King Crimson) play a role throughout the album and lend their distinctive vocal abilities to this album. This is truly a musical fanboy's wet dream, where else would you find Genesis, Nightwish and Dream Theatre musicians put together? THE THETRY (Of EVERIPTH1I1G

There is no real structure within the album, some recurring melodies act as a theme throughout but otherwise, musically, the album jumps from a folk-like melody (Patterns) to a slow blues solo (Side Effects) to an atmospheric 80's keyboard soundscape. The ability to jump flawlessly from one completely different mood and feel is and always was always what made Ayreon's music unique. "The Theory of Everything" is an absolute must-have for fans of progressive music and belongs alongside such classics as Genesis' "Nursery Cryme".

Iced Earth "Plagues Of Babylon" (Power/Thrash Metal) www.icedearth.com Rating 4.5 Dragons Iced Earth is a true testament to metal music. Always staying true to its musical core, Jon Schaffer has delivered album after album without compromise. Iced Earth's long career was plagued with many ups, downs and line-up changes but no one can argue that their previous endeavor, "Dystopia", didn't have an immense impact on the metal world pleasing both critics and fans. And lord knows that Iced Earth fans are hard to please! Iced Earth's brand new release has a lot to live up to and thankfully, they have not lost their momentum. Powerful 434441 and heavy, "Plagues of Babylon" is a truly worthy successor. Opening with the title track, a boasting 11 minute epic, we are immediately treated to Iced Earth's familiar sound, marching drums and a layered, melodic guitar track that succeeds in creating anticipation before exploding into a very heavy and groovy old school thrash riff. In fact, this 10 VandaiaMagazine.Com - February 2014

album features some of the best riffs in Jon Schaffer's career. Democide, one of the album's heaviest pieces, is reminiscent of "Burnt Offerings" while The Culling takes a page from Blessed Are You to create one of the catchiest anthems in their catalogue. Stu Block was chosen to step in as vocalist after Mathew Barlowe's departure, and quickly managed to dissipate any doubts the fans had concerning Iced Earth's future. Yet again, he delivers powerful vocal lines and harmonies that would please fans old and new. From the high pitched screams on Resistance to the emotional delivery in If I Could See You, the vocals are truly masterfully done. Being a longtime fan of Iced Earth and Into Eternity both, I still feel like there is a considerable amount of restraint in his vocals and personally I would love to see more experimentation with vocal lines on the upcoming albums. All in all, this album is heavy, melodic, has that one obligatory ballad, great album art and pretty much covers everything that one can expect from Iced Earth. Even though the second half of the album never lives up to the sheer energy of the first half, this is a worthy successor to "Dystopia" and a great addition to the Iced Earth discography.

High Rotation E-d tors Deep Music to Metal - It's on The Playlist By Crystal Lee One of the questions I am asked all the time when I am out is "What do you listen to?" Guess what? It's a mixture like most of you out there. I don't stick to one genre and to be honest my work computer has a personal playlist of 5,000 songs - and about 1000 high rotation and those stay on! Editors are not different we fall in love with a song just like everyone else. On this list age of the song could be new to as some would say "old". This does not lesson any submission but I am human and each person has their personal tastes. To make it on for me (and not as a critic) the song has to have first of all talent. Also if I have seen you live I could like your music more or (rarely) never play it again. If I have seen you live and you were a "hot mess" such as drunk or a jerk to fans or the bar staff mysteriously like a person you lose your appeal. As I call it the super model becomes the old witch with warts. Does it have to be independent? No but it helps the merit. Nextly I have to understand the lyrics so sadly I do not listen to a ton of thrash metal and genres like that BUT I do have them on the list since musically (excluding vocals) they are spectacular. Finally for me the lyrics have to have a purpose - emotional, meaning, great work out music, fun, or just pretty cool. As you can see most editors are normal people and have personal tastes. Now what? Well I thought since I get asked who to check out I would share some of my favorites of the independent music scene.

r

One band that popped up on my playlist that I am yet to get sick of their album is "Dead Sara" {www.deadsara.coml. Lead singer Emily Armstrong's vocal range and sound is reminiscent of classic rockers such as Stevie Nicks, Bonnie Tyler and Pat Benatar (all of which is a must on any playlist). Most of all her vocals have some depth and range. One of my favorite songs is "We Are What You Say". Lyrics are meaningful and then the music is just fun! You wanna get up and just dance. Honestly its one of my "happy songs" that puts me in a great mood instantly. Overall the 2012 album that is self titled is one of my top favorites to this day and gets a ton of play!

One more? Here is one to show my range. Having a bad day recently - I mean a really bad day a friend sent me two songs to check out and told me to hit the gym! (I am lucky to have a home personal gym with the works so new music for the gym gets tested asap). The two songs he sent me was "Watch You Bleed" and "Lift Me Up (feat. Rob Halford)" by Five Finger Death Punch -(www.fivefingerdeathounch.com}. Holy crap! It gave me one of the best work outs and the next days I was crawling. Now both on the playlist permanently though have became more impartial to "Life me up" and kept on high rotation. Not only do all the instruments come together to give a perfect mix guitar and rock/metal you have Rob Halford sounding amazing! I have never been a really big fan of him until this song. Then you have the lyrics - what can you say they got emotion and a positive undertone. Well there you have it. Over the next few months the staff and I will bring you what we are personally listening to over and over be it new or a blast from the past. Feel free to send me a message of anything you think should be on high rotation and it just might make it on the list. 14 VandalaMagazine.Corn - February 2014

3 Things DIY Artists Can Learn From Pretty Lights By Billy Bones Pretty Lights has done what many DIY artists have strived to do: Achieve success not only in touring, but in music sales and merchandise as well. Pretty Lights has been successful in all three areas by being innovative and patient in building a loyal fan base. There are a lot of key tactics that a DIY artist can take away from the Pretty Lights approach. In this post, we'll explore three strategies Pretty Lights has utilized in order to become a successful artist on his own terms. 1. Use Free Music to Build a Fanbase Though there are many musicians and music marketers who argue against giving away free music, Pretty Lights has shown how powerful it can be. In hip-hop, giving away free music by way of mixtapes has become common in order to build your fan base. In fact, hip-hop sees giving away free music as a way to stay relevant in an increasingly competitive landscape. The practice was looked down on in other genres, and the concept wasn't really explored until Radiohead adopted the "pay what you want" model for their In Rainbows album. Before Radiohead adopted this model, Pretty Lights had already given away his debut album away for free. His reasoning was that, "No one was buying music they hadn't heard and didn't know about." New artists who have yet to build a fan base for themselves can use this strategy to help build a community around their music. The music you give away for free will still have to be marketed, but by giving away the music you are giving a potential fan one less barrier to consuming your music. As your fan base increases, you can start asking them for their email in exchange for an album, or to tweet in exchange for a song. The key to giving away free music is that you are utilizing this strategy to not only get people to listen to music, but get the people who like your music to spread it. Pretty Lights has made his music accessible through apps and Soundcloud, but you can't actually download the album unless you go to his website. When you go to his website to download it, he asks you for a donation or for your e-mail. By bringing them to his website, he is creating a community and hub for his music, where people can stay updated on his releases and consume content. de Creative In Finding Ways To Reach New Fans Another area where Pretty Lights has excelled in marketing his music is in his distribution strategy. With so much music to consume on the Internet, you have to be creative in finding ways to reach new fans. Jay-Z gave away a million free copies of his album Magna Carta Holy Grail to Samsung Galaxy owners through a partnership with Samsung. Before the day-Z campaign, Pretty Lights partnered with BitTorrent (known for pirating music) to give away his music for free, resulting in millions of downloads of his music bundle. That's a lot of people exposed to his music. While a major label would have put their team of lawyers to work, Pretty Lights gained an unbelievable amount of exposure. What can artists take away from this? While not everybody will have the ability to set-up a giveaway with Samsung or a deal with BitTorrent, the main takeaway is to be creative in how you distribute your music. The status quo is to distribute music through digital stores like (iTunes, Beatport, Amazon), or streaming music sites (Spotify, Rdio, Grooveshark), but there are many other ways people access music. Whether legal or illegal, the key is knowing how to use the different avenues to your 16 VandalaMagazine.Com - February 2014

I

advantage. DIY artists can partner with a platform who has a big audience and utilize it in order to increase their reach. Whether it's partnering with a blog for a release or an app for distribution on mobile phones, finding creative avenues for distribution is important in order to break away from the clutter. Also, when you do this type of partnership it's important to make it unique to that platform as Pretty Lights did by creating a free bundle of music and videos. 3. Monetize Your Communi Not only has Pretty Lights done an amazing job of building his fan base, he has done an even better job of monetizing it. Through his clever marketing he manages to consistently sell out shows and sell out merchandise. Even though his most recent album was available for free on his website it didn't stop fans from buying it—it debuted in the Top 40 Billboard charts. Pretty Lights maintains a connection with his community of fans through Facebook, Twitter, email, and his website. Anytime he has a special on his merchandise, he'll be sure to let you know on his Facebook page. When he has a show in your area, you get an email. How? Because you gave him your zip code when you downloaded one of his albums. Pretty Lights also occasionally partners with other companies for exclusive product lines that are only sold through his website. He recently partnered with headwear brand Lacer on an exclusive hat. It was limited in quantity and sold only on Pretty Lights website. An update to his Facebook page and a quick email was all he needed to sell out of the line within a few da ys. Once you build a community, your fans will want to support you. Pretty Lights doesn't constantly bombard his fans with promotions. Instead, he strategically reaches out to them when he has news. So what can you do to monetize your fan base? Utilize Facebook and email to promote your shows. Sell your music. Even if you give away your music for free, your super fans will still buy your music if you sell it. It's the 80/20 concept: 20% of your fans will account for 80% of the income that you make from your music. Also, partner with a company to create march. They'll cover the overhead of manufacturing the merchandise, and even help you market it. By doing this, it allows you to avoid keeping inventory while reaping the benefits of utilizing their marketing tools while also selling to your audience as well. Focus on building your community first, then after you build a community of fans, you will have an audience to monetize. 11.7r1

•i

Of course, in order for any of this to be successful, Pretty Lights first created great music that people wanted to consume. Yet even though Pretty Lights is undoubtedly a talented artist, without the novel brand and business approach, the masses beyond the local fan base may not have heard a single track. Independent artists just starting out or spinning their wheels after a few years in the business, take these lessons learned and make them work for you.

Interview with Author, Musician & Music Marketer Joshua Smotherman Interview by James Moore

Joshua Smotherman, a musician and one of the men behind popular musician's website Middle Tennessee Music, has been a colleague of mine for years now, and I can't say enough good things about him. Not only has he been a huge help to my artists as well as hundreds, possibly thousands of others; he does his work with humility and class. Needless to say, I was happy to hear that he recently co-authored a new music marketing book with C Bret Campbell entitled "Getting Your Music Heard Online". If you've ever read the articles on Midtnmusic.com before, you'll know that they are some of the most practical and easy-to-follow instructions available to independent musicians, and any► artist interested in the vital nuances of everything from approaching bloggers to mastering social media should pick up a copy. I had a chance to ask Joshua a few questions and he dishes out some wisdom below. Joshua, first off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started with what has become quite a popular independent music destination website, Midtnmusic.com, and what you do for musicians there? Joshua; This answer could get really long but I will try and stick to the main points. We are just some DIY musicians trying to help other DIY musicians figure out how to create sustainable livings with our passions for creating music. • The original idea for Middle Tennessee Music came from my childhood friend Joshua Grosch. • The core of MTM includes Mr. Grosch, C Bret Cambpell, and myself but we are actively looking for new people to work with to help grow our vision. We also moderate the Google+ community, Music. Professionals of G+. • Grosch and myself were in a drama group as teenagers, began pursuing music in our late teens, and eventually became Hip Hop duo BUNKS. We began using the Internet to 22 Vandalamagazine.Com - February 2014

Triterwiew. lostpua . Smotherimari release and promote music in 1999. • Bret Campbell had a small barn he had converted into a recording studio. After my Dad asked Bret to teach me guitar, I discovered Bret was an audio engineering mastermind and the only guy in Hillsboro, in that knew anything about DAWs, VSTs, and making music for the digital era. You could say Bret set our young, creative souls free. • While still in college (after moving to Florida then Louisiana then back to Tennessee over a 9 month period), I started Middle Tennessee Hip Hop as a social networking site on Ning.com. That was 2007. By 2008, I was converting the site into a blog without membership. • I worked in the campus library so I spent countless hours consuming the works of Bob Baker, Ariel Hyatt, Derek Sivers, Brian Clark, Chris Brogan, and other content creators who focus on helping others learn about marketing, PR, and using social media properly. • I graduated MTSU in 2009 with degrees in Music Business and Anthropology. An internship I had with an indict publishing company on Music Row in Nashville turned into a job. • In August 2010, I quit that job to work from home as a freelance consultant and website designer for a group of small business owners in the Brentwood area. One thing led to another and now here we are. A lot of the informative articles we publish typically come from questions we have been asked by others or from experiences we have had using technology to turn our passion for creating music into a sustainable living. As far as what we do for musicians... our main mission is to help those on the DIY path better understand the Internet and how to use it to promote music, find fans, and build a tribe. We have worked with entrepreneurs in the music industry, health industry, business/life coaching industry, as well as a bed and breakfast but our passion lies with helping others (musicians) like us 'figure out the Internet". Your new book is called "Getting Your Music Heard Online", and it's made up of a compilation of articles originally published on Midtnmusicicom. I found the book to be uniquely clear and practical in it's instructions and advice. What do you hope independent musicians take from the book? Joshua: Insight that hopefully leads to clarity. I've wasted a lot of time learning, making mistakes, researching, trying again, making more mistakes, etc. Reading books from writers like yourself, Bob Baker and Ariel Hyatt really helped me take my online presentation of my music to the next level and I simply want to pay it forward by helping others just like me. {Book at www.midtnmusic.comigetting-your-music-heard-online} What are the 3 top things you'd recommend artists start doing now? Joshua: 1. Make the best music you possibly can with all the resources you have at your disposal. Not having money is not an excuse. I've been broke and making music for 15 years. I turn 32 next month and I'm just now receiving my first record contract to sign (possi bly). 2. Get out and play shows, network with local acts, and use the Web to network with not local acts. Small tours can be built off gig swaps... If you want to get paid on the back end make sure you are a member of a performing rights organization. BMI and ASCAP allow you to report shows when you perform and pay you performance royalties. 3. Learn how to properly present yourself to higher ups in the industry, get a website, get on social media, and start blogging. February 2014 - VandalaMagazine.Com 23

When artists send their music for your consideration, what are the biggest mistakes they typically make? Joshua: • No information or not enough, just a link to a song or video. • "The hottest new artist out of Timbuktu...." - *delete* • Go listen to my new song, like my page, and clever...

return the favor OR the more

• I love your blog (knowing they have never looked at anything but the contact page), I was hoping to get featured blah blah blah... How is an artist to break through in 2014's musical climate? Joshua: You have to be producing the best music you possibly can. Technology has created an over-saturation of people trying to live out their music dreams who believe the Web can make it happen. There is a lot of blah blah music being pushed out by "great" publicists. If you throw Facebook Ads, Google Ads, Twitter Ads, etc on top of this, all you need to be heard online is money. All you need to get 10,000 video plays is go pay someone selling views that knows how to make them count without getting caught by YouTube. With this said, music fans know the real from the fake and the artist who will endure and persevere through the smoke and mirrors are the ones putting 1000% of themselves into the music first. As a wise man I recently met once said... we need more "music with depth". You're an accomplished musician yourself. Can you tell us a bit about how you speak from experience? Joshua: I entered the online world in 1995. By 2000 I had already started releasing music and was involved in message boards and forums which provided the communities I could share with. Unlike the majority of artists online today, I have the vivid experience of a world that existed pre-social media. I was promoting music online before Zuckerberg even graduated high school... I think that speaks for itself but back to my music. I have been writing, producing, and recording consistently since 1999. I performed my first show in 2003 - 2004 but BUNKS was not performing on a regular basis until 2007 when we released Generica (our first album distributed digitally via iTunes, etc). Next week I leave on my 2nd self-funded, self-booked tour across the Western side of the States. My first was in August of 2013. Like I said earlier, its 2014 - I've been pursuing music as a "career" for almost 15 years and I'm just now looking at my first contract to sign with an indie label.. I live what I write about on MTM and elsewhere. That's the takeaway from these statements. Also, the only ones who fail are the ones who quit trying. 7. What can we expect from you and C Bret Campbell at Midtnmusic.com in 2014? Joshua: Now that we have proven ourselves as a source of info for musicians trying to learn more about online promotion, we are interested in becoming a site for fans to discover indie music. This year we want music fans spending more and more time on our site discovering the 800+ [and growing] bands, artists, songwriters, and musicians we have interviewed and reviewed over the past few years. Since I am getting more touring experience under my belt, my 2014 articles will focus on how we are finding venues, booking shows, funding it, and other related topics. "Reinveatitig Pop" Interview WIth'‘-Hayley Mary Interview and Story By Lana Nimmons

I sat down with Hayley Mary from the Jezabels where we talk about her career as a vocalist and it's burdens, how they're fresh off tour with the Pixies and Depeche Mode, and their new album The Brink. Things got a little deep when we started to pinpoint their transition from "indie" to pop, and what makes a good pop artist. The Brink, the first and title track of The .Jezabels' second album, revisits the glorious mystery of rock'n'roll redemption: the thrilling loss of innocence to a power that never wanes from one teenaged generation to the next. But the solid two years of touring at home and overseas certainly played a part in the abyss that welcomed Hayley, guitarist Sam Lockwood, keys player Heather Shannon and drummer Nik Kaloper when they pulled up in London at the end of that marathon cycle of gold, platinum, gigs and festivals. We talked about their time in London, recording of their video The End, vocal training, where her inspiration comes from, and where the Jezabels are heading in the upcoming years. Thank you so much for taking the time to speak to me today. Haley: Welcome, my pleasure! I saw you guys in Montreal last year and was blown away by your performance. Haley: Well, thank you, cool you're in Montreal, beautiful. Wanted to introduce myself and I didn't want to seem like a creepy fan. Haley (laughs) People don't tend to have reservations but I'm used to it I know in Montreal pretty sure in other places are really into your music. Some of your fans were pretty intense, more so than most shows I've been to so, I was like, maybe I should give them their space. Haley: That's amazing! Thank you, we really love Montreal. It's very encouraging to hear that, I'm sure we'll be back soon. I've been to a lot of shows here in Montreal front "air mic-ing" it. Haley: That's so awesome! So good! Amazing! How did you guys form as a band? Haley: Heather and I have known each other since high school. We use to write Folk songs together (which we didn't really ever do anything with). So in University where we properly met up with Sam (who I actually knew from where I grew up in Biron). So while at Sydney University where we met Nick and then we entered in Sydney University band competition. So we wrote a few songs and came in second. I think that was the key encouraging Factor, let us see what we can actually do and our potential as a band if we kept going. We kind of started playing around the local indie club scene in Sydney, and then we got home support tours to go around the country the first one was Tegan and Sara. They were really lovely, and touring with them really was amazing because it gave us a taste for what bands are like. We just kept on writing, released a few EP's, and eventually radio playing and we've been going forth ever since. I know this might sound a little weird , I realized in the album you have no bass, and never have. Was this intentional? I mean it's not that you need it, I think you are one of the most largest sounding bands without it. Haley: It was unintentional I suppose, we never thought of getting a bass player, originally we were looking for a drummer and a guitarist, we never thought of getting a bass player. Between how Heather plays piano and the way Sam plays guitar it seems to compensate for a lack of bass. Sometimes I think we overcompensate. Sounding very bass-y, mostly because we worried about not having a bass. I think that affects how Nick plays the drum, very torn like. We just never thought of getting one I think it was the way February 2014 - VaridalaMagazine.Com 2

we were writing it never felt like we needed one. people don't say it much too anymore, I think people have accepted it. Like I mentioned before, I've never really noticed, you're right, the combination of toms, keys and guitar really works well. Haley: For some people it's a no go, and can't do without a bass player but whatever, some people don't like female vocalist. It just happened naturally, we wouldn't be opposed to getting a bass player for session musician, if we had the money, but we don't. Let's talk about your vocals. I saw you guys almost 1 year ago, and vocals absolutely blew me away. As weird as this may sound I thought you were taller, I never expected much power to come out of such a petite woman. Haley: (laughs) No one's ever said that to me before. I'm not particularly short I'm 5'3 but yes I definitely come off as a small human, I have small features and everything. Yeah I don't know, thank you? That's funny that I come across taller than I am. You know everyone in Hollywood is rather short but on camera they look tall. Pictures have a way of making you into something that you're not. So I come to the topic of vocals do you have any formal training? Haley: I actually didn't until recently. I started taking vocal training for live, this started right after recording the record. Live is a whole other ball game because you have to maintain so much energy and fitness. You know I can sing on the record easy enough but to be able to do that night after night it's rough. I actually started losing my voice on tour, so, after the last record I started training to teach me how to take care of my vocal health. I have to strengthen my vocal cords, but nothing like classical training. My trainer understands that my life isn't of a classical singer, and neither is my style. She's teaching me how to strengthen my voice and sing correctly. It was important for me to find someone who teaches me that instead of changing my style, and finding someone who understands what rock in roll is really like. Hopefully it will improve my live performance, but I won't sound any different I will just be a bit stronger. A big part of it is exercising I'm learning how to eat, I'm really making an effort to educate myself about how not to ruin my voice. I don't even, know how you can get better honestly I was blown away. Haley: Wow, that must have been a good show! The problem is sometimes I lose my voice entirely. The reality is the best that I am every single day you know it would be a lot better than just being able to be good sometimes if that makes sense. So you're fresh off tour with Depeche Mode and The Pixies: how awesome was that? Haley: Amazing, so much so that it's kind difficult to say how awesome it was. Depeche Mode had massive shows it was just amazing to watch the whole production and see how professional they are and how even though they are massive rock stars they still are the most amazing people. You learn how to behave as a band and how to treat your support acts: they were basically flawless the way they treated us. Them and The Pixies treated us really well. And that's always encouraging because there's nothing like being treated like crap as a support tour. Also it was just wonderful touring with such hit writers, and are alternative bands: a lot of people think say that we don't quite fit into the mainstream we don't quite fit into the alternative- where too alternative for the mainstream. It's always been hard to fit into a category. It's kind of great to watch both of those bands sit on the same line. I'm not comparing them to us, they're just levels ahead, obviously they're legendary bands, but they do a similar line as each other and us in at the kind of song driven bands and they have this alternative culture it was very inspiring to see people listen to them. They're both really popular but still kind of underground-ish. 30 VandalaMagazine.Corn - February 2014

When I saw the bill I couldn't think of two other bands who would be perfect for you to tour with. As you said you don't quite fall under the pop stream or the alternative stream. Haley: People are starting to call us a pop band in Australia now.. I think that starts to happen when you start becoming more popular, but I think it's because of the type of songs we write like the kind of melody driven music. Our music is quite melodic, and certainly fairly approachable to most people. I don't know whether we're a pop band: people started using Indy as a term less to describe us, and pop as a replacement, and I'm cool with that. I wonder if a similar thing will happen in Canada but we'll see. So you're launching your upcoming album, The Brink I took a listen this week and it's really awesome! Haley: Thanks! The first single of the album is called The End'. What's the significance of that particular track being brought out before the actual album? Haley: I think it was because we were concerned about: well you see, The End is a strong song but mostly was released because the rest of our album sounds a little different from a previous album and we wanted to release something familiar sounding. We wanted to start building, rather than come out with the most biggest, most different song. So we thought The End: it's a good song, and it's pretty classic Jezebels, some people say that it's a little formulaic in the sense that it's what we've always done. We haven't been playing many shows here in Australia, we've been to ring a lot around the world and we wanted to come back with something familiar not like " Ouuu... the jezebels are like selling out add becoming a pop band". There are songs that are more different than what we used to do like, Look of Love, our second single. That song is a little bit more poppy we were worried about alienating a few too many people if we brought that out first if that makes sense. You know our old fans be like "what the f*ck?" So that's why it was basically a warming up Jezebels are coming back type thing. The End-Love the video, where was it filmed? Where did the concept come from? Haley: That was in London on a rooftop where some of my cool hipsters friends hang out. It was freezing, and I think it was bonfire night so there were fireworks in the background but I think you only get to see one which is really weird. That was fun. I guess you filmed a video while you were recording in England? Haley. Yeah, it was just after recording the album. Part of me feels although it is very indie film clip, and it suits how Indy we used to be, and how Indy the song is. I think there's room for change in future film clips in my mind. Where do you draw your inspirations from songwriting wise? Haley: Part of it comes from the music, you know when the guys start jamming sometimes I'll start an idea. A lot of times it comes from sitting, and once we have a structure or sections of the song that the guys can jam I'll just sit there listen to them for hours and try and put a face to the body. I feel like that the vocals are for music. I love to just pluck feelings to make it a song. A lot of my inspiration comes from things that I'm interested in, like, romanticism, gender roles, life. I like to write as a bit of a role play, I don't know I think essentially I kind of get my inspiration from trying to create something that makes me feel how I want to feel. I just try and create something nice beautiful and something that'll make people feel good. I personally value the kind of ambiguity in songs, and talk February 2014 - VandalaMagazine.Com 31

song, and it's pretty classic Jezebels, some people say How Leonard Cohen-esque of you. Haley: I guess so yeah. no it is, I really quite like Leonard Cohen he's an amazing lyricist. Thank you. You know it's funny I remember hearing an interview with Cohen and someone asked him about Hallelujah and what it was about or where it came from. And he responded, I don't know, some of it doesn't even make sense. I always thought that was funny, but sometimes the tone and intent defines the song more than the words. Haley: Sometimes it's subliminal stuff that you just say, and then you try to make it make sense of it. Most of it to me is just sounds that come out of my mouth. There are a couple songs that I have just written straight up on paper straight up lyrics before the melody came, but it tends to be the melody come straight away, and I think the form has always defined the content for me. The reality is my voice is the "other", it's an instrument. You can catch the band live with tour dates in Australia and Europe currently. The Fugitives - Powerful Video that Champions For Change In Russia With the world ready for the start of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi; anxiously awaiting the wonder of sports, and to watch the best of the best from each country, indie folk collective, The Fugitives, feel the importance of keeping a very significant issue of the games in the front of people's minds. "Like many people, we looked on in dismay as the Russian government implemented anti-gay propaganda laws last year," says Adrian Glynn and Brendan McLeod, who head the Vancouver-based group. "At the same time, we were pretty humbled and inspired by many of the people who protested and stood up against them." That inspiration led to a new song, New Year's In Sochi, and the release of a new heartfelt and moving video that accompanies the track. New Year's In Sochi was featured on the Light Organ Xmas EP, which was released in December 2013. The song was written about Dmitry Isakov, one of the first people arrested under Russia's new anti-gay propaganda laws. He went into a city square with a sign advocating for equal rights for gay citizens, and was arrested, beaten, and fired from his job. When he was released, he went back the very next day to the sarne spot with the same sign. "We were struck by the bravery and simplicity of it, as well as his resolve to continue the protest as soon as he was released by the authorities," the band comments. "It provided a sudden jolt of perspective. The two of us walk around pretty steeped in privilege. We deal with basic. Canadian musician problems: paying rent, getting inspired, being annoyed by long drives across the Prairies. We don't have to deal with the daily violation of our human rights, or getting arrested and alienated from our community for expressing a belief in equality." Watch the video at www.youtube.com/CanadianFugitives The powerful video is a reflection on Dmitry Isakov's actions, and shows a group of people holding their own signs, telling Isakov's story and championing for equality and change. The band continues, "unfortunately, the situation in Russia isn't rare. There are 78 countries with anti-homosexuality laws. But the fact that the Olympics are in Russia, really gives the international community an opportunity to focus on this issue and get the awareness out that these kinds of laws are backwards and cannot stand. We wrote an uplifting song, and there's a bit of an upbeat tenor to the video, because we like to believe change is coming, and hopefully very quickly." The Fugitives released their new album, Everything Will Happen, in. October of 2013, via Light Organ Records. New Year's In Sochi is available on 'Tunes now, and is also available as a free download within the limited edition CD version of Everything Will Happen. The band will also be hitting the road in March supporting Buffy Sainte-Marie. For more information tour dates, details and the band at www.fugitives.ca www.facebook.com/TheFugitives

Arc Iris's De but Album Via Anti- Records Arc Iris's self-titled debut album is out April 1 on AntiRecords. The video for the band's first single, "Singing So Sweetly," recently premiered and can be streamed on YouTube at www.youtube.com/antirecords. Arc Iris is set to embark on a nationwide tour with Nicole Atkins this spring and will be making stops at SXSW Music and Culture Festival in Austin. Arc Iris is inspired by 70s pop, folk and country traditions, cabaret, jazz and classical. The eclectic new project from the former Low Anthem member draws on diverse music from Led Zeppelin to Grizzly Bear, from Joni Mitchell to Dirty Projectors, lUg and from Miles Davis to Chopin. A singer, multi-instrumentalist, classical composer and former NASA researcher, Adams formed the collective with primary musicians Zach Tenorio-Miller (piano), Ray Belli (drums), Max Johnson (bass), Robin Ryczek (cello) and Mike Irwin (trumpet) among others to present her ambitious new songs. The rhythm section has been playing together since high school and cut their teeth at the School of Rock where they shared a stage with musicians such as Slash, Perry Farrell, Andrew WK, Jon Anderson of Yes and the Butthole Surfers. Arc Iris has recently played shows with Calexico, CocoRosie, Marco Benevento, Menomena, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Patrick Watson and Justin Townes Earle. Before departing The Low Anthem to form Arc Iris, Adams released two albums with that band, who were praised by the New York Times for music that "inhabits its own otherworldly place, where ghosts and angels hover just out of view" and by Under the Radar for how they "flawlessly balance heartfelt warbles with gritty countryside wail." Dr. Dog's Zach Miller explains the band's unique process on their cover, "Every track was recorded in a different state. We didn't have a lot of time to get together on this one so we recorded our own tracks at home and sent them to Scott in Connecticut. Musically and creatively it was a challenging song to record because the melody and the chords felt fused together -- like there is a new chord on every note of the melody -- and it was tough to break away from that, especially being so isolated. But in the end it felt much more loose and laid back. Scott really worked some magic on the mix, too." Saint Rich's "Delicate" Steve Marion explains their song selection and recording process, "It was the song we van-jammed the hardest on our last tour with Wild Belle. The vote was in: Rock and Roll. The lyrics of the song serve as an instruction manual for how to record the song. We started with na Tascam, some Maxwells, a Shure 57 and a stereo delay" and ran wild with it." You can sample and download the Dr. Dog and Saint Rich's "Casual Freefall Tour" EP at Noise Trade here: www.noisetrade.comidrdogandsaintrichicasual-freefall Dr. Dog are currently touring in support of their acclaimed new album B-Room, which All Music Guide called "a beautifully crafted slice of psych-pop goodness" and Under The Radar said "These tunes are ripe and ready for picking, the fruitful results of a band that grows infectious melodies by watering them with good instincts." Along with the single, McGuire has also released a remix of the song by Shinji Masuko (DMBQ„ Boredoms). McGuire himself created mesmerizing visuals to go with both tracks, which you can watch on YouTube.

:Raw Releases? llopi The Tokyo Police Return

• TOKYO POLICE CLUB FORCEFIELD

Forcefield, the fourth album from critically-lauded Tokyo Police Club will be released March 25 via Dine Alone Records in Canada. The new record is the band's first release in four years, following 2010's Champ which received widespread acclaim. Tokyo Police Club teased the new album just before the New Year with an innovative video for the track "Argentina (Parts I, II, III)." Furthermore, the lead single "Hot Tonight" is currently streaming on soundcloud at: www.soundcloud.com/tokyopoliceclub.

Forcefield is produced by Doug Boehm (Dr. Dog, Girls) and David Monks (vocals, bass). Of the new music Monks notes, "Since writing started for Forcefield in mid-2011 there have been so many trends and every kind of 'wave.' We saw them all come and disappear or change into something broader. It left us wanting to make something that would last. We ended up re-discovering energy and guitars and simple, direct songs. There was certainly a lot of pressure to take the music somewhere new and there were lots of opinions about how to do that, but in the end we blocked all that out and followed our instincts. I think that's what Forcefield is—it doesn't matter what else is going on out there, the music just has to be honest and have a real feeling to it." The album is available for pre-order via iTunes and you can keep up to date with the band at www.facebook.comitokyopoliceclub. Also check out their all thier music videos at www.youtube.comiuser/wearetokyopoliceclub

Hillman Li hthouse Where Power Pop Meets Tight Americana! In late autumn of 2013 Hillman went into the studio for four days to record their self-titled debut album in studio Kungsten with producer Mattias Glava (with the songs recorded through The Bands old mixing console, dayumn!) The seamlines in the band consists mainly of the love of the musical tradition that's been pouring out of the promised land across the atlantic ocean for the last century and a half, mainly the 1960's and 1970's era. But on a deeper level Hillman Lighthouse is the collective dream of one day driving down a highway in the Mojave desert in a Cadillac DeVille inebriated by weeds, whites and wine i.e. going west to find nothing and everything at the same time. Why not. "I think pure country music includes rock and roll" said Gram Parsons before he rode into the sundown. We couldn't agree more. Gothenburg Sweden's Hillman Lighthouse play Power Pop fused with Americana in a southern rock vein - tight as hell, a distinct groove, powerful riffs and vocal harmonies. New Video & Album From Pop-Punters "Save Your Breath" Newport pop-punks, Save Your Breath, have posted a new video for 'Harrow Road', taken from their recently released album, 'There Used To Be A Place For Us'. Speaking about the song's subject matter and also the video's concept, bassist Ben Griffiths says, "I loved where I grew up, but moving away from home was very significant for me. I loved the place and my friends, but small towns breed very narrow minded mentalities. I always felt there was a really defeatist attitude that came hand in hand with the failure to WI leave. I felt like after growing up, that I saw things in a different light and a lot of people I held close were pulled in to the small town cycle and gave up on themselves." "The video concept is based around my old house in Newport. The idea is simple, just trying to capture a brief moment in time with the events that happen in one particular place. The memories and relationships people have are what defines a place as important and I know that house was considered to be a home for a lot of my friends." I Killed The Prom Queen Unleash New Video and Returns to the US Australian metalcore groundbreakers, I Killed The Prom Queen, unleash a video for "Thirty One & Sevens". "Thirty One & Sevens" is a signature Prom Queen tune encompassing everything the band does well - monstrous riffing, jackhammer drumming and vocals that run the gamut from possessed death roars to emotive melodic overtures. I Killed The Prom Queen returns to the US on the unstoppable Take Action Tour on March 12 in Ventura, CA with The Devil Wears Prada, The Ghost Inside, and Dangerkids. Take Action Tour 2014 is presented by Living The Dream Foundation. Now in its twelfth year, the tour will help benefit the Living The Dream Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides hope and inspiration to children and young adults afflicted with life threatening diseases. Ten percent of the cost of each ticket sold is donated to Living The Dream and Sub City to help further this cause making each person attending an active participant in making the world a better place. For more information on the Living The Dream Foundation Take Action please visit www.livingthedreamfoundation.org and www.takeactiontour.com. By their own admission, I Killed The Prom Queen have endured a decidedly checkered past. Over the years the band saw multiple vocalist changes and other personnel exchanges, side-project sojourns and moonlighting in other bands, hiatuses and break-ups. Yet through it all, their musical output both live and on record has remained thoroughly inspired. I Killed The Prom Queen today is Jona Weinhofen formerly of Bring Me The Horizon on guitar/vocals/keyboard, Kevin Cameron on guitar, Jamie Hope as the screamer, ex-Day of Contempt Ben Coyte on bass, and ex-Confession, and Buried in Verona's Shane O'Brien on drums. IKTPQ entered the studio in 2013 in Gothenburg, Sweden with Fredrik Nordstrom (Bring Me The Horizon, At The Gates, In Flames, Dimmu Brogir, Architects UK) to record Beloved, their much-anticipated third album of epic proportions. Beloved, is to be released on February 18, 2014 on Epitaph Records in the US February 17 in EU February 14 in Australia. I Killed The Prom Queen have a fresh lease on life and a new found desire to leave an indelible mark on the world stage. Metalblades Destrage To Release "A You Kidding Me? No." Milan, Italy natives, Destrage, have released a brand new video for a track from their upcoming album, Are You Kidding Me? No. The video, which can loosely be described as a lyric video, features a pair of zombies making their way through the Warrior Dash in Italy as lyrics splatter onto the screen. Lyrically, the song examines why we as humans enjoy killing zombies so much, and visually, the video is an entertaining dose of absurdity, as fans of Destrage have come to expect! "My Green Neighbour" was directed and edited by guitarist Matteo Di Gioia at The Jack Stupid. Destrage recorded "Are You Kidding Me? No." at RecLab Studios with Larsen Premoli and at Adrenaline Studio with Daniele Nelli. Mixing and mastering was done by Will Putney at The Machine Shop in New Jersey. The cover illustration was done by Marco Tafuri and the layout was completed by The Jack Stupid. Watch the video for "My Green Neighbour" and order your copy of Are You Kidding Me? No. at metalblade.com/destrage. Are You Kidding Me? No. will be released worldwide via Metal Blade Records on March 4th in North America and February 28th/March 3rd in Europe/UK. Remembering Oliver Withitift, Co-Owner of Century Media Withoft "I have lost my best friend of 32 years and my business partner of 24. Although the unthinkable already happened three days ago, I am still in a state of utter shock. Oliver Withiift leaves a space that cannot be filled for all who held him dear. He was a tremendous father, husband, son and friend and will be terribly► missed.. I will always treasure him in my heart as the witty, brilliant and altogether great person he was. Farewell Oliver, see you on the other side and in our next life. Your brother, Robert" --Robert Kampf, Century Media founder Oliver Withoft„ co-owner of independent record label Century Media, passed away on January 20, 2014 after falling ill several months ago. He was 49. Born in Dortmund, Germany in 1964, With oft studied linguistics, business and history► in both Germany and the U.K. Robert Kampf started Century Media Records 25 years ago simply to create a suitable label home for his own band, Despair. He was looking for a trustworthy and strong partner to lead the company with and found this person in his best friend and fellowmusician Oliver Withoft, who joined the company eighteen months later, sharing the same love and passion for music, and metal in particular. Since that very day, these two friends developed one of the most important independent record labels on the planet. Today the company has around 100 people on payroll in Dortmund, London, Los Angeles, Berlin, Paris, Milan, Madrid, Melbourne and the Netherlands. A lot of musical careers were developed over the years: Lacuna Coil, Shadows Fall, Suicide Silence, In This Moment, Otherwise, Iced Earth, Die Broilers, Arch Enemy and Heaven Shall Burn are just a few of them. Century Media became a brand name recognized across the world. Oliver Withoft was always the strategic, legal and financial mind behind the organization. He was not only a strong fighter for the company, but also a very intelligent and forward-thinking leader. When the music industry drastically changed in the '90s, he was the first to think about new ways to adapt to the needs and challenges of the rapidly-changing market. We have lost a great man with an amazing sense of humor, a warrior, and an overall very human being. Oliver leaves behind a wife, Judith, and their three daughters. Antje Lange, CEO of Century Media Records: "I learned a lot from him in regards to business, the world and life. He was an extremely smart and visionary business man who cared a lot about the people working for him. He was one of the most open-minded and knowledgeable persons I have ever met. Oliver was responsible for a lot of successful artists' careers and an impressive amount of albums that had an SO VandalaMagazine.Com - February 2014

impact in the music world. It has never been easy for him, but he was a strong fighter. A great man with an amazing sense of humor whose departure leaves a large gap in our lives." Ula Gehret, who handles business affairs for Century Media Records with his company Clandestine:

"He had a razor-sharp intellect and keen business acumen, and as a number of people can attest to, he was not someone you wanted to be sitting across from at a negotiating table. After a few years at the label, he introduced me to how legal contracts worked. Eventually, with training, that became my full-time occupation. It is no exaggeration to say that without his tutelage and patience, I would not be where am today, doing something I love, and with principle. He was my mentor." Oliver was a very special person who touched many people's lives in a positive and special way. This is a tremendous loss for all who knew him and it will take some time for us to grieve the passing of such a great person.

"Oliver was always a winner, one of those that I somehow thought would live forever. A genius, a friend and the best advisor I've ever had. It was all him behind the scenes." --Kali Farhi, Orphaned Land "Oliver and Robert had the guts, trust and belief to sign us when we were just a bunch of kids trying to play metal. Without these guys, I doubt we would be where we are today. He was not the easiest to work with back in the day, but a very cool guy." --Ola Lindgren, Grave For those who would like to honor his memory: His family have asked that - instead of sending flowers - they would appreciate it if you could donate to "The Oliver Withoft Scholarship", a fund raised as part of the Kindred Project (www.thekindredprojectigl) Donation reference: Account holder: Kindred Project Oliver Withoeft Reference: The Oliver Withoeft Scholarship IBAN: G189 BARC 0204 5216 2863 922 SWIFT: BARCGIGI

Thus Owls Sign to Secret City Records and Release New LP Montreal/Stockholm band Thus Owls have signed to Secret City Records, and will be releasing their new album, entitled Turning Rocks, on April 8, 2014. The first song on the record, As Long As We Try A Little, can be streamed though Soundcloud/Secret City Records www.soundcloud.comisecretcityrecords. The band will be making their first appearances in support of Turning Rocks at SXSW, with. North American and European tour dates to be announced shortly. Thus Owls are a transatlantic band comprised of husband and wife duo Erika and Simon Angell. The album is both a scrapbook of memories and oral transmissions from an island in Sweden, and a sonic experiment in tone and colour recorded in Montreal. Turning Rocks is lyrically inspired by Erika's childhood home: a small house in her family for generations, in a tiny village on Orust—an island in Sweden just north of Gothenburg. The process began with true stories that Erika's grandmother told her about people and events from her own youth. "She was a little girl growing up on the exact same land and in the same house as I did," Erika explains "so when she spoke about all those things I felt very connected to it." The process followed from there, with each song on the record drawing inspiration from a different human life somehow connected to the place. Though Thus Owls' sound is rooted very much in Erika's vocal style and Simon's guitar tone, the new record also emphasizes a wider sonic palate. "We realized a lot of the things that were catching both our ears were those old vintage 60s organs," Simon explains, when discussing their musical inspiration. "So we started buying a bunch of them: a Farfisa, a Wurlitzer," he goes on, noting that their new keyboard player, Parker hper, shared their enthusiasm for the older gear. "It was a nice fit," he says, and 'it comes through on the recordings. In addition to Parker, Montreal drummer Stefan Schneider was added as a permanent fixture of the group, and he along with Swedish bass player Martin Hipper round out the core band on the recordings. Notable guests on the record include Timber Timbre's Taylor Kirk (who sings on closer, Thief), Pietro Amato, and Marie-Pierre Arthur. New Country Star Alee Brings Home Female Artist of the Year Within the first few tender notes of an Alee concert, it is clear that this Canadian rising star is a natural talent. Her powerful voice, undeniable charisma, and pin-drop stage presence combine to create an 'unforgettable live experience. In 2013, the Canadian country music charts have echoed this sentiment, seeing three songs from this Alberta born songstress climb into the Canadian Country Top 20. Alee celebrated by taking home the Female Artist of the Year at the 2013 ACMA's (Association of Country Music in Alberta) and blew the audience away with a performance of Don't Say You Love Me this past month in Red Deer, AB. Alee was nominated for four ACMA's including Rising Star, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and her big win for Female Artist of the Year. Alee had this to say about her first win at the ACMAis, "I am truly grateful for each day I am able to continue to do what I love, and nothing even begins to explain how much it means to have received the award for Female Artist of the Year. The journey up until this point has been amazing, and this is such an exciting way to kick off 2014...I can't wait to see what the year ahead has to bring!" Not one to rest on the laurels of her early success, Alee has met this opportunity with a tireless work ethic - touring, writing, and recording all across North America over the past year. From Vancouver to Nashville, this rising star has charmed country critics and fans alike, and has landed her first record deal with Canadian independent label Wax Records. !Aust. 'Nnyrits.? In The Studio Septicflesh Complete New Album - Summer Release Expected

111P

Still riding high from the success of their critically acclaimed 2011 album "The Great Mass," Hellenic metallers Septicflesh have finished recording their new, tentatively full-length, as-yet-untitled scheduled for a summer release. The new album will consist of 10 songs that were recorded once again at , Greece and in the Devasoundz Studios in Athens Czech Republic with the collaboration of the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir. From there, the album was mixed and mastered in Los Angeles by acclaimed producer Logan Mader (Gojira, Fear Factory, Cavalera Conspiracy).

Says the band, "We are really exhausted from the 11 work on this record, but also very proud of the results. We worked hard with Logan to bring you the \ ultimate death metal soundtrack for your darkest dreams. The compositions are progressive with a lot of emotional peaks, while at the sametime the songs sound very aggressive and powerful. We also had the chance to work for the first time with a full children's choir besides the regular adult choir, and that helped us dive deeper into darker cinematic atmospheres. We have achieved a new level of extreme emotions." -7111:

Septicflesh has earned extensive international praise for their eight albums to date, as well as their performances on tour alongside the likes of Cradle of Filth, Amon Amarth, Gorgoroth, Satyricon and Children of Bodom. The group, who recently headlined the "Conquerers of the World" North American tour, and recently took part in the 70000 Tons of Metal Cruise. More information on their new album will be revealed in the coming weeks via www.facebook.comisepticfleshband

The band will also be returning to Europe in July and August for a festival run. The band will play a select number of headline North East dates alongside Pyrexia and other supports. Sven had to say the following: "East coast beware, since several of you have demanded east coast shows, we give you some! Also, the reason we are doing this has nothing to do with the fact that we absolutely want to get fat on philly cheese steaks or New York pizza. Also, we are thrilled to have New Yorks legendary Pyrexia coming along with us to give you many shit tsunamis through the power of brutal death metal. in all seriousness, we are very excited to play this week of exclusive headline dates before the release of our new album and we better see some familiar faces there! Grind!" Aborted 's new album The Necrotic Manifesto will be released through Century Media in spring 2014. For more information www.facebook.com/Abortedofficial
