2019-USPA HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL SHOWCASE

Athletes Up Next Micah Handlogten

Southlake Christian

Coach Monroe informed us that he expects 6’8 sophomore Micah Handlogten to get on some college coaches radar in the near future and after seeing several games we couldn’t agree more. He has excellent size, shot blocking presence and is very active in the paint. Micah’s father, Ben, played professional basketball in the NBA and overseas.

Jordyn Latter Providence Day Keep your eyes peeled for freshman guard Jordyn Latter. She is fun to watch and a fierce competitor. On the season Jordyn is averaging six points and three steals per game. Jordyn’s father, Larry, is a former college football athlete.

Glenn Bynum Jr.

Carmel Christian

The Carmel Christian faithful are in good hands now and for the foreseeable future with Glenn Bynum Jr. up next. On the season Glenn is averaging eight points, four rebounds and almost two steals per game.

Amari Johnson

Harding University

There’s quite alot to get excited about with freshman point guard Amari Johnson. The mark of a good point guard is measured in how well they handle defensive pressure while controlling the tempo of the game. Amari is showing early signs that he will make a positive name for himself as an elite level point guard before he departs for college someday.

Ifeanyi Ufochukwu

Covenant Day

When you watch Ifeanyl play you can see a young man with natural abilities meshing with the structure of fundamental basketball. Should Ifeanyl, who is listed at 6’9, gain the proper basketball training and instruction as the headline suggest, you can count on him being UPNEXT!

2019-USPA HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL SHOWCASE

Athletes Up Next Hali Doctor

Mallard Creek High School

Congratulations to Hali Doctor Hali who has committed to play basketball at Columbia College. Per Coach Johnson, Hali has dedicated her season to her mother who was tragically killed as a part of the Emmanuel 9 in Charleston SC. Hali’s mother was an alumni of Columbia College. We’re sending all our love and support to Hali and we wish her much success on her journey.

Chandler Brooks

Providence Day School

Chandler is turning out a successful freshman campaign. Against Durham Academy she almost produced a triple double with nine points, nine assists and seven rebounds. Proving she has a well rounded game, on the season she is averaging six points, five assists, five rebounds and two steals per game.

Elijah Green

Carmel Christian School

Christian Monroe

Southlake Christian

. Elijah is a talented freshman in the heralded 2023 class. He can create in tight spaces and is a superb distributor and sees the floor remarkably well. Playing on a team with eight college level athletes, he’s waiting his turn but for now just know he got next.

Growing up in the shadows of a Hall of Fame father is no easy task but the freshman point guard is showing leaps of maximizing his own potential by pouring in 13 points in a contest against Metrolina Mens Basketball. You can expect Christian to keep growing in the sport while carving out his own lane.

Logan Blair Harding University As a sophomore Logan is currently averaging a double / double on the season. I think it’s very safe to say he UPNEXT!

2019 Season Highlights

SAMYHA’S HIGHLIGHTS: Averaging 13 points 3 assists 3 steals Considered one of the best freshman guards in the state.

12 SUFFREN SAMYHA

Position: Guard

High School: Mallard Creek C/o 2023

College Offers: Mid Majors Samyha is a tenacious on ball defender that wreaks havoc for opposing guards. She has the ability to turn defense into instant offense. Efficient point guard with a pass first mindset but can create separation to find her shot. Extremely poised for a true freshman. Has the potential to become one of the best players to come out of Mecklenburg county. Will need to extend beyond the arc and develop a more efficient left hand. Scary for teams to imagine what she could look like in the years to come.

NAVAEH’S HIGHLIGHTS: Wake Forest commit Averaging 13 points 3 Assists 3 Rebounds 3 Steals

5 BROWN NAVAEH

High School: Mallard Creek C/o 2020 College: Wake Forest commit

Navaeh has a scorers mentality and a plethora of offensive skills sets. She can score off the bounce and is accurate from the 3-point range and she was recently awarded with the honor of eclipsing over 1K points for her high school career. Navaeh brings leadership qualities to the Mavericks and she stays in tuned to the game and when her team needs a bucket, she delivers. Her basketball talents are refined and purest will appreciate how smooth she translate her skills to the game.

LAUREN’S HIGHLIGHTS: Averaging 12 points 2 assists 2 steals per game Consumate student of the game

30WALKER LAUREN

Position: Guard

High School: Mallard Creek C/o 2020 College Interest: Emerging

Lauren’s basketball IQ is off the charts and we wouldn’t be surprised to see her go into coaching someday. But while we have her on the courts her offensive tenacity constantly reminds her team that the goal is to win games by putting the ball in the basket. She puts pressure on the defense with her ability to penetrate deep in the lane and she’s a spot up 3-point shooter. One of Lauren’s best attributes is her unselfish play.

KENNEDY’S HIGHLIGHTS: Averaging 10 points 3 rebounds per game Class of 2021 Receiving Div. 1 college interest

14SIMPSON KENNEDY Position: Forward

High School: Mallard Creek C/o 2021

College Interest: Mid Majors With championship runs each team chiefly needs two things, someone who can score a basket when needed and someone who can come up big on the defensive end. Kennedy disrupts offenses by deflecting passes and grabbing clutch rebounds. Because of her long frame you anticipate that she will hang out in the post but she can handle the ball and pull up from mid-range. She’s indeed a nice piece to this Mavericks team. Coach Johnson recently informed us that D1 programs (mid-majors) are showing interest.

19

MALLARD CREEK head coach COACH “CJ” JOHNSON

This group is a unique group, this summer we had the chance to put them in the fire and they managed it really well.

Andi brings intensity to the court and she manages the game very well. She’s an accurate spot up three point shooter who can rattle off consecutive buckets in a flurry. She executes in the half-court game and reads defenses and feeds the post entry. Her motor doesn’t stop. Andi has solid back court skills and is an excellent contributor to the Chargers team.

Kenny observes and takes instruction based on his team needs and plays his role to a T in order to help his team win. While all of his efforts might not show up in the stats sheet, his stats are very impressive and each night his impact is always felt. College programs should take notice.

10GRANT JALEB

Position: Forward

High School: Harding University C/o 2021 College Interest: Mid majors, D2’s

Jaleb is an elite level defender who alters and block shots that initiate fast breaks. He’s mobile, agile and he’s a ballers’ baller, if you will. Competes on both ends of the floor with equal intensity. He makes the types of plays that’ll get you out your seat. Proper footwork and spacing and constantly getting his hands on the ball is keeping him away from a constant 20p-10r performer. Emerging D2’s and mid-majors should put Jaleb on their must track list.

Kobe is a fundamentally sound perimeter player who is an excellent catch and shoot three point specialist. To add his ball handling skills are exceptional which helps absorbs full court pressure and stretches the defense. In transition he can activate his mid range game or draw contact to get to the line.
