Agriculture in Los Angeles is an auxiliary use permitted on property zoned for housing.

The City of Los Angeles is currently revising and simplifying the zoning regulations in the municipal code.

There is no exclusively agricultural zone in the Los Angeles Municipal Code.

The process is a good opportunity to recommend how to improve the existing regulations pertaining to urban agriculture in the city.

The severe lack of agricultural zones, compared to park space, imposes a significant property tax burden on urban After completing a literature review, a geographic data analysis (research model to the right), and interviewing farmers. It Allows local governments to establish “Urban Agriculture Incentive Zones” that permit 5 yr contracts between a property owner and city or county to assess property taxes on use rather than zoning. There is significant criticism that the bill is a tax shelter for developers with stalled projects.
