42nd International Two-Day Walk Blankenberge Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 May 2011
On Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 May, Blankenberge and its surroundings will be the place to be for thousands of enthousiastic walkers. For 41 years in a row, the organization has been aiming to organize 2 pleasant walking days for young and old. The logo of the International Two-Day Walk will be visible along the walking track and will create a lot of ambiance on the market square. On the one hand, the logo shows big and small feet, thus perfectly representing all our walkers, and on the other hand you see the colour green. That colour has specifically been chosen. Each year, our aim is to show the beautiful surroundings of Blankenberge to all our participants, but we also aim to reduce our ecological footprint to a minimum. And all our efforts throughout the years have had their effect. Our minister-president Kris Peeters has recently granted us the “Award Duurzaam Kustproject 2010” (an award for a sustainable project in the coastal area) and the Flemish Minister of the Environment Joke Schauvliege handed out the “Groenevent Award 2010”. In the category “Sports event”, we were the only organization to be given this recognition. Each year, we sensitize and inform our walkers. The tracks are impeccable, the garbage islands are clearly visible and we give special attention to non-disposable drinking bottles, cups, …. That is also the reason why the fish you get on the market square is offered on a slice of bread instead of on a cardboard plate.
We are aware that these awards are also the awards of all our walkers who realize that nature is very valuable and earns our respect. Therefore, we hope that in the future we can continue to count on your participation to assure that the International Two-Day Walk remains not only a pleasant event, but also a green event. We look forward to seeing you all at our 42nd International Two-Day Walk of Flanders on 7 and 8 May 2011.

For this edition we keep on promoting to register in advance.

You can register via our website www.2daagse.be or via the VVV (tourist office); tel +32-50-41 22 27. Online We advise registration online. This way of registration is possible till 30 April. All info can be found on our website at www.2daagse.be. VVV/Tourist Office Walkers who cannot book online can do this via the tourist office (VVV) of Blankenberge. Pay the correct amount to the account of the “VVV Blankenberge” (no. IBAN: BE23 2800 4936 8791 - BIC: GEBABEBB) – mentioning “2daagse” and the number of cards per type (e.g. “2daagse, 3 x 1 day, 2 x 2 days”). Make sure all the details, and especially your name and address, are mentioned in order that the cards can be mailed. All registrations in this manner can be processed until 15 April. After
this date, the timely processing of registrations cannot be guaranteed. Registration is still possible at the Tourist Office of Blankenberge itself until the day before the walk, being 6 May 2011. That day the Tourist Office will exceptionally be open until 7.30 pm. On the Spot
Participants who wish to register on the spot can do so only at the registration desk in the tent on the market square.
Registration Fee
The fee depends on the amount of days one is participating. We offer discounts to members of clubs associated with a Belgian walking federation. We also give a discount to the youth movement. The fee includes elaborate sampling such as Brugse Zot and loads of ambiance on the tracks.

The International Two-Day Walk – Gateway to Asia The Two-Day Walk is an international event and because of our contacts with various other walking organizations on no less than 4 continents, walkers come to our event in Blankenberge from all over the world. However, the Two-Day Walk has a special relation with Asia. From the beginning, there have been close contacts with Japan, two years ago we invited a delegation from Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) and last summer a delegation from Beijing came to Blankenberge in order to acquire proper expertise to organize a similar event in Beijing. So you can really say that the 2011 theme “Gateway to Asia” is not farfetched. For many youngsters our event is the ideal occasion to get to know a new culture. After all, the Asian walkers bring a part of their culture to our event. Even those who have already visited the Far East, remain fascinated by the typical customs and friendship the Asian guests bring along. For some of the younger walkers the Two-Day Walk is not only a gateway but even a bridge to Asia. For years, we have had an exchange program with the Japanese town Minamiboso. Each year, several students get the opportunity to live for about a week with a Japanese family. This is a unique experience for all the students that participate. Many of them remain friends for life. This is the reason why the theme is not a specific country but a continent that is very dear to us. We are sure that the Asian touch will also charm you!
Environmental Tips • If you bring along your packed lunch, make use of a lunch box; • Avoid the use of throw-away material as much as possible; • Never throw tin cans, cups or other waste to the ground, thus avoiding roaming rubbish and showing respect for our precious polder and nature; • Make use of the waste containers available, even if you have to walk an extra 10 meters; • Sort out your disposable material correctly: choose the correct container on the waste islands; • Take only those promotion folders which are of interest to you. Festivities What once began as a Two-Day Walk has become a true event. An event that has outgrown an ordinary stroll in the park. It has become a brisk and lively event.
