MIAMI BEACH CONVENTION CENTER Currently , the Miami Beach Convention Center has become a physical blockade within the urban fabric of the city, forming a disconnection between the surrounding community. The site is not pedestrian friendly with surface parking lots, loading docks and the MBCC footprint that covers the whole site, creating no pedestrian paths within the site. Also, the existing site lacks green spaces, which takes away from miami beach natural beauty. Confluence is the concept of the project connecting urban with nature by creating a parkland that extends from Washington Ave. to Meridian allowing the MBCC, City Hall and Jackson Gleason Theater to become objects in the field. From the 17th street there is a connection to Lincoln Road to the MBCC through a plaza. The proposed solution will create a neighborhood connectivity by creating significant public green spacess and public outdoor spaces that will activate the site and become a confluence within the urban fabric.

COMP. DESIGN URBAN CINEMA The Urban Cinema is a medium scaled-movie house located in Downtown Miami. Main concept was to maintain the existing street edge of the urban conditions in downtown miami by placing the two theaters on opposite ends, creating a main axis that connects the two. Programmatic elements are organize along that axis creating a central circulation for the cinema. Open air circulation is used since temperatures are comfortable most of the year allowing for natural ventilation through outdoor spaces. Also, the cinema forms an outdoor performance space and garden that can be use for the public. The third floor contains program for administrative activity. The second floor contains both theaters, with two lounge areas. The first floor has a bookstore with a cafe , and media library with classrooms.

RE-THINKING DESIGN FOR HOMELESNESS The Main Street Homeless Assistance Center seeks to redefine the constituency of homelessness and to propose architectural actions that both address and reach beyond temoporary solutions for the individual living on the street. Design concept of the center and shelter was to maintain the street edge of the urban conditions in downtown Houston. Steel and glass are the primary materials used for the center. Perforated steel shading devices are used to provide shading on the various facades in different forms. The street facing facades protrays abstractly shopping carts that most homeless people use to store and secure their possesions. So, the shading devices are used to protect the people inside.

The programmatic elements of the Main Street Assitance Center and Shelter are arranged into two “L-shaped” buildings that form a shared courtyard. The two distinct components can be distinguished from each other by differeing scales and programs. Insitutional/public programs are located in the larger “L” and private/personal programs are located in the smaller “L”. Housing, dining, healthcare, retail and daycare are the many services that the center provides.

GEE’S BEND CULTURAL CENTER Gee’s Bend is surrounded on three sides by water and located on a bend of the Alabama River. It is only accessible by ferry and County Road 24. The Gee’s Bend Community is an all African-Americcan isolated community that is known for its quilts. Most of them are descendants of slaves from the former Pettway Plantation. The cultural center will act as a portal from the Alabama River to the Gee’s Bend Community. Design concept was to connect land and water through strips/bars from the quilts. Strips/bars allow direct views to the Alabama River and allow daylight into certain areas. The program is split into public and support spaces. Public spaces consist of exhibition spaces, media center, cafe, museum store and exterior spaces. Support spaces consists of quilting workroom, director’s office and black belt archives.

Commissioned to design sustainable housing uits using shipping containers in College Station, Texas. The dwelling units will serve the housing needs of students attending the University and Colleges in the area. The housing scheme is to be sustainable. Each housing unit does not exceed 1,000 sq. ft. and activities within one unit includes living, dining, kitchenette, bathroom, and two bedrooms.
