Master of Arts in Biblical Studies and Christian Thought
MA PROGRAM SCOPE
Investigate major issues involved in biblical studies and the history of Christianity with the MA in Biblical Studies and Christian Thought at Trinity Western University. The MABSCT is a specialized academic program led by expert faculty. You can choose from thesis, major-paper, or coursework tracks and specialize in a variety of areas. Study in a program that has a proven, recognized track record of preparing graduates for entrance into and completion of PhD programs at leading academic institutions. Did you know? The Canada Research Chair in Religious Identities of Ancient Judaism and the Brooke Foss Westcott Professorship are held by members of faculty.
CERTIFICATE OPTION
If you want to start smaller, consider TWU’s newly revised Certificate in Biblical Studies and Christian Thought. You can even ladder the certificate into the full MA later. The certificate program can prepare you to enter excellent MA programs and pursue academic careers or work in various professions in education, public service, and the church.

The simple, free online application form is available at apply.twu.ca. Additional application documents required are two reference letters, all post-secondary transcripts, and a sample academic research paper, preferably in the area of biblical studies or Christian thought.

TWU hosts two of the most important institutes of Christian biblical research in the world: the Dead Sea Scrolls Institute and the John William Wevers Institute for Septuagint Studies. They are directed by top researchers and TWU professors Andrew Perrin, PhD, and Robert J. V. Hiebert, PhD.
GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN BIBLICAL STUDIES AND CHRISTIAN THOUGHT
Engage the primary sources and scholarly literature with the Graduate Certificate in Biblical Studies and Christian Thought. Develop essential skills to conduct independent research in ways that promote intellectual understanding, spiritual formation, social responsibility, and global engagement. Suitable for a wide range of graduate students, this program is practical for education, public life, and church. For example: Do you want to advance your education in support of your ministerial
vocation in a church, parachurch, or Christian organization? Are you a teacher who wants to specialize in teaching Bible/Christian
thought or desire advanced qualifications for professional development? Do you wish to study the Bible or theology using scholarly methods for
personal interest? Are you considering further education at the graduate level?
The Program Director will help you devise a program of study tailored to your professional or academic goals, choosing one of the following concentrations: Old Testament (OT) New Testament (NT) Christian Thought (CT) Biblical Backgrounds (BB) Biblical and Related Languages (BRL)
The program will include nine semester hours (three courses) in the chosen concentration, and six semester hours (two courses) of additional biblical studies or Christian thought coursework.
