ew York’s most anticipated mixtape from Fred The Godson, “City of God,” is cosigned by Gangsta Grillz and hosted by DJ Drama. This 19 track mixtape is punchline packed and loaded with an amazing feature list from Diddy, Remo The Hitmaker, Manio and YMCMB’s Cory Gunz as well as G.O.O.D Music’s own Pusha T, who revealed was born in the Bronx, New York, Fred’s hometown! Still working hard with long time contributors TBM/Blockwork but under new management, Fred The Godson is now being guided by music executives, Shawn Prez (BadBoy Entertainment) and Jer-z (Interscope Records/TakeOver Entertainment), as he moves into the mainstream of his art. Some of New York’s finest, DJ Enuff, Suss One, and Funk Master Flex, are just a few that are coining Fred The Godson as “Hip Hop Messiah” after winning Best Male Rapper at the 2007 Underground Music Awards. Mr. Godson has worked his magic towards the mainstream invitation of some of the most infamous features and cameos such as Pusha T, Doves Fly, Jadakiss Toast to That, OliviaBeauty/ The Beast, Styles P, P- Diddy, Meek Mill, Cory Gunz and many more. He also made a cameo appearance on the VH1 show, Love & Hip Hop along side Jim Jones, Executive produced by Ms. Mona Scott Young. INE Music Group (Ceo) Maxine Henderson and (President) Milton Bell Jr. are close friends and they proclaim Fred The Godson to be one of the most hard working, dedi-

cated, respected, extraordinary and phenomenal Hip Hop artist to cross the thresh hold since Biggie Smalls, Nas and Tupac. They describe him as a legendary force with an explosive impacted reaction yet to come. Fred The Godson is well worth the anticipation of what the music industry is truly missing to help balance the genre of rap. You can always catch Fred The Godson working at his best and creating new material on a superstar’s work ethic, “trust with belief.” This is surely what you would fine every time, a “humble” down to earth individual who makes everyone feel right at home, and humorous as well. He loves to put in hard work by going the extra stars. Fred The Godson will be touring in Japan for this upcoming month of March 2012 and returning to possibly sign with a Record Label, not to leak at this time due to the legal format of the paper work, but stay tuned. ■

hen Dr. Beverly D an i e l Tatum became the ninth president of Spelman College in 2002, she set an expectation that the institution would be recognized as one of the finest liberal arts colleges in the country – a place where young women of African descent could say, “This place was built for me and it is nothing less than the best!” With her creative energy focused on five strategic goals – Academic Excellence, Leadership Development, Improving our Environment, Visibility of our Achievements, and Exemplary Customer Service (collectively known as Spelman ALIVE), Spelman College has experienced great growth. Spelman is now widely recognized as one of the leading liberal arts colleges in the nation. Applications have increased more than 40% during her tenure, making it one of the most selective women’s colleges in the United States. In 2004, the Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement (LEADS) was created and its annual Women of Color Leadership Conference established as a national professional development resource. The curriculum has expanded to include Chinese language instruction, and in 2008, the Gordon-Zeto Fund for International Initiatives was established with a gift of $17 million, increasing opportunities for faculty and student travel, and providing financial aid for international students. Department Announces New Effort to Strengthen Accountability for Students with Disabilities Moving from Compliance-Focused Approach to One Driven by Results U.S. Department of Education

T

he Department of Education announced new steps to help close the achievement gap for students with disabilities by moving away from a one-size-fits-all, compliance-focused approach to a more balanced system that looks at how well students are being educated in addition to continued efforts to protect their rights. While the Department has effectively ensured access to educational resources for students with disabilities, not enough attention has been paid to educational outcomes, which have not sufficiently improved. This is partly due to the fact that federal policy has focused more on procedural requirements and not enough on critical indicators like increasing academic performance or graduation rates for students with disabilities.

"For too long we've been a compliance-driven bureaucracy when it comes to educating students with disabilities," said U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. "We have to expect the very best from our students—and tell the truth about student performance—so that we can give all students the supports and services they need. The best way to do that is by focusing on results," Duncan said. Throughout the coming year, the Department will work closely with stakeholders to develop and implement a new review system that takes a more balanced, results-driven approach to assessing how states are educating students with disabilities and better targets monitoring to where it's needed most. Since the current process of conducting on-site state compliance reviews has not focused enough on improving student outcomes, the Department will not be carrying out the visits scheduled for the 2012-13 school year to allow it time to develop a new and more effective system. However, the Department will continue to review annual performance reports as well as monitor state supervision systems. ■

on Cornelius was truly a Trendsetter, paving the way for countless artists in the music industry. Don Cornelius, born September 27, 1936, started out in the insurance business before going to broadcasting school in 1966. He worked as a substitute radio DJ and on

by American Bandstand, quickly became popular, and spent more than 30 years on the air. Premiering on August 17, 1970, Soul Train quickly became popular. It aired on Saturday mornings, attracting a lot of children and teenagers off from school. An early supporter, businessman George Johnson of the Johnson Products Company, helped Cornelius make Soul Train a national television program. It was syndicated in 1971, but it was initially difficult getting stations sign up for the show. In addition to Chicago, stations in Atlanta, Cleveland, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and San Francisco were among the first to air Soul Train. With his deep voice and distinguished good looks, Cornelius was the ideal host. Over the years, he presented many famous performers to his television audience, including Gladys Knight, Smokey Robinson, Lou Rawls and Aretha Franklin,

She says that in your service, your words, actions, and deeds should uplift and encourage people, not tear them down. Her advice to upcoming graduates is to “Stay true to your dreams. If you believe you have an idea for a project or an initiative that would better the health of the community, pursue it, even if it’s not a popular concept among your colleagues. The programs I’ve been involved with that had the greatest impact on the community were the same programs that met the most opposition because they had never been done before. As a public health official, your job is to serve the public. If we create a generation of professionals who remain true to this philosophy, we will change the way health care is delivered in this country for the better.” ■

the congregation at New Hope had a powerful effect upon her: "I think I knew then that [my singing ability] was an infectious thing that God had given me." By the time she turned 15, Whitney was performing often with her mother and trying to get a record deal of her own. Around the same time, she was discovered by a photographer who was awed by her natural beauty. She soon became an extremely sought-after teenage model, one of the first African American women to appear on the cover of Seventeen magazine. But music remained her true love. In 1985, she released her debut album Whitney Houston and almost immediately became a smash pop sensation. Over the next year, her hit singles "Saving All My Love for You" and "How Will I Know" helped the album reach the top of the charts, where it stayed for fourteen non-consecutive weeks. Houston won a Grammy in 1986 for "Saving All My Love for You"; the award was presented to the singer by her cousin Dionne Warwick. Houston followed the monumental success of her first album with a second release, Whitney, in 1987. That record, too, went platinum many times over and won more Grammy Awards, leading to a successful world tour. She crossed over successfully into acting in 1992 by starring opposite Kevin Costner in the wildly popular The Bodyguard. With this movie, she set a trend for her films to follow: in each film she also released a hit single, creating sensational record sales for the soundtracks. Her smash single from The Bodyguard, a cover of Dolly Parton's 1974 "I Will Always Love

You," proved to be Houston's biggest hit ever, spending a record-breaking fourteen weeks atop the U.S. charts. The soundtrack album went on to win Houston three Grammys, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year. Later in the 1990s, Houston also starred in The Preacher's Wife and Waiting to Exhale, both accompanied by hit soundtracks as well. In 1998, Houston released My Love Is Your Love, her first non-soundtrack studio album in many years, and it earned her another Grammy. Her collaboration with Mariah Carey in the animated film The Prince of Egypt produced a single, "When You Believe," which won an Academy Award. She released a new album, I Look To You, in 2009. The recording received a warm welcome from music fans, making to the top of album charts. At the time of her death, Houston worked on a new musical film Sparkle with Jordin Sparks, a remake of the 1976 movie about an all-girl musical group similar to the Supremes. She had reportedly been approached to join the singing competition The X Factor as a judge. With her passing, the world has lost one of its most legendary stars. Whitney Houston, a “Trendsetter” who will certainly be missed. ■

Their little minds are like sponges absorb everything around them but just like they don’t have enough rest they aren’t any

We also know that kids minds can often go on overload so winding down at the end of the day can be a problem. When preparing your child for bed time try reading them a story or playing them some soft and relaxing music to calm their minds and allow their bodies to relax. You want them to have a well rested night of sleep. ■

Irritating Hair Accessories By Dr. Linda Amerson

air accessories are a billion dollar industry. Accessories are meant to enhance the hair, or conceal fine, limp, sparce, damaged or broken hair. Consumers need to be informed of the importance to make sure these enhancements do not damage the hair. Some examples are listed below. Bobby Pins - should have rubber tips on the ends. If you have been reusing your hairpins, and the protective coating and rubber tips are no longer visible, it is time to throw them away, and invest in new ones. Check the closures to make sure they offer the right amount of tension. Furthermore, some consumers may develop an allergic reaction to the nylon coating on bobby pins and should discontinue usage. Hair Clips - use caution and adjust tension on the hair.

Extension Ponytails with Comb Inserts - again please use caution when attaching these extensions. Scalp abrasions and irritations can occur when used. Most female consumers love the options available in hair accessories. Parents love to see their baby girls hair enhanced with the ribbons, balls, jewels, headbands, bows, etc. However, there are also the dangers of damaging your hair or your child's hair if accessories are used incorrectly and improperly. Recommended products to keep your hair and scalp healthy is Dr. Amerson's Therapeutic Essentials, LLC.

Barrettes - always adjust the tension, to ensure it is not too tight. If your hair is wet or dry, you can contribute to hair breakage when using hair barrettes incorrectly. Banana Clips - always use caution, the metal springs can ruin your hair when used incorrectly. Plain Rubber Bands - can be very damaging to the hair. Hair breakage is a common result of using plain rubber bands for ponytails with excessive tension. Choose covered ponytail holders or cloth ponytail bands to keep hair in place. Hair Bands - avoid wearing hair bands on a daily basis, especially if your hair is dry, damaged, or over-processed. You may be contributing to limited hair restoration.

COMMENTARY

By Attorney Corey Minor Smith

T

he teleprompter zoomed in on Shannon Sharpe. Right on cue, he looked intently ahead, as if he didn’t know he was the subject of every camera in Fawcett Stadium. He was now a Pro Football Hall of Famer, standing before millions, proudly accepting his role in history. He described the “raging inferno… the five-alarm fire” within him that pushed him to go to the gym instead of lunch and to practice or study when others did just the opposite. Sharpe wanted a better way of life. All he knew was that he did not want to eat cold oatmeal, raccoon, possum, squirrel or turtle anymore. He did not want his kids to live one hour, let alone a day in the life he had as a child. He was obsessed with being the best football player he could possibly be. He was driven. As his words penetrated my inner-being, my throat immediately became sore. I tried to hold back my tears. I was a witness to that same raging inferno throughout my life. I wanted a better way of life too! I did not know how I was going to get it, but I knew I did not like being hungry, broke, and not experiencing everything that life had to offer me. There was a fire burning inside of me to do more, be more, and achieve more. I was driven. The internal burning desire for success drives me to achieve what others only dream of. Despite living in three different states, eight households and 14 schools, I was driven. Abandoned, alone, struggling to cope with my mom’s mental illness and both parents’ drug addiction and jail stints, I was driven. Through faith and the unwavering love and support of family and friends, I graduated from high school at the top of the class, studied abroad and earned a Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Juris Doctorate. I also volunteered, worked no paying to low paying jobs to now being the Director of Legal Services for the local housing authority. Hip Hop artist Drake has a song just for me, “I just wanna be successful”. My children will not have to “live one hour, let alone a day in the life” I did as a child. I am driven. If God does nothing else for me, I will continue to thank Him for the things He has already done. My challenges and accomplishments enable me to ring the five-alarm fire warning to encourage you to be Continuously Motivated to Succeed. Life is full of challenges. Be driven despite your circumstances. Your drive will determine if they will make or break you. Henry David Thoreau said, “Success is a journey, not a destination”. Success is mine and it is yours. My life motto exclaims, “Don’t allow undesirable circumstances to be excuses for you to fail, but allow them to be reasons for you to excel.” ■ More information for Attorney Corey Minor Smith can be found at: www.coreyminorsmith.com. From a vision expounded upon by Don Jackson, the founder of Central City Productions, the Stellar Awards was born and continues to grow with purpose and commitment. Honoring that commitment started on January 13, 2012 as the Stellar nominees performed their new projects from inspirational, traditional, and gospel hip hop. Martha Munizzi, winner of the Recorded Music Packaging of the year for “Make it Loud”, gave a stirring performance as did others. The Stellar Awards continue a tradition of community ties through the medium of radio. The Radio Announcers reception was designed to showcase those men and women who use their talents to present the works of gospel artists to listeners in cities across the country. he is known as the judge that takes the extra step by taking a case out of the court room to solve the problem. She’s the “tell it like it is” judge of the self titled court room show “Judge Hatchett”. Carol: Do you consider yourself a role model? Judge Glenda Hatchett: Yes, I would say I am a role model. A lot of people don’t want to be used as a role model. But I say yes. I believe I am and try to always conduct myself in a way that is consistent with being one.”

Judge Hatchett: (Laughs), certainly anyone who knows me knows that I love Football. My dad was one of the original season ticket holders and yes I am still on that board. Carol: We know you as a Judge and television personality, but is it true that you worked as a lawyer for Delta Airlines for many years? Judge Hatchett: Yes, I was a senior attorney for Delta Airlines for 10 years. Carol: But your love seems to be in dealing with troubled youth and their families. Where did this passion come from? Judge Hatchett: I would say it comes from working as the Chief Presiding Judge of one of the largest Juve-

An Extraordinary Woman. She’s A Role Model on Purpose. Carol: Have you lived in Atlanta all your life? Judge Hatchett: Yes. I love Atlanta and it is where my parents met and fell in love as graduate school sweethearts. I was born here and have been here ever since. I didn’t go to the same schools as my parents but we all went to historically Black Colleges. My parents attended Clark University, and I went to Mount Holyoke College and University. Carol: I see you participated on several boards: Play Pumps International and Boys and Girls Club of America. But, the surprise to me was that you are also on the board of the Atlanta Falcons!

nile Court Systems in the country. Through this position I gained a front row perspective on today’s hot button issues. Carol: And you carried this perspective to the TV show Judge Hatchett. By the way, I love the way you take the case beyond the court room when needed. Judge Hatchett: Thank you. Carol: In my search, I see 9 episodes and two Emmy nominations. But what we currently see are reruns. Was the show cancelled? Judge Hatchett: No, There is a misconception that the

show was cancelled. It actually wasn’t. They wanted me to do another series of contracts, but it just didn’t work out for me. I wanted to do other things so it was time to move on. Carol: So continuing on your journey to do other things, what do we have to look forward to from Judge Glenda Hatchett? Judge Hatchett: Well, there is a movie script and more TV as well as my books. I have two books, one just released this year. Say What You Mean and Mean What You Say released in 2003 and this year, Dare to Take Charge: Live Your Life On Purpose. Carol: Tell us about the new book. Judge Hatchett: The book dares the reader to dream. But it also challenges a person to go beyond their dreams, which are really only wishes, and push to take charge of the dream and make it a reality. This book shows you how to travel life’s journey with great enthusiasm to make your dreams come true. It’s a book that’s written to interactively inspire the reader and lead them through the necessary steps to heal so one can be free enough to bring birth to a vision. Carol: Is the first book associated with the second book in any way? Judge Hatchett: The first book is about basic pieces that we need to go back to as parents, powerful principles. This second book dares the reader to think positive with the same intensity and magnitude as one would give a negative thought. Dare to Take Charge takes the reader through a process of self reflective questions. The book guides a parent to love ultimately, but it doesn’t stop there. It also explores the necessity to expect not just anything but Greatness from them. Carol: The books are amazing, thought provoking and great guidance manuals for help when we need it. As we all know, children are our future. Do you stay assessable to your fans, and where can they reach you to talk to you? Judge Hatchett: I am on twitter @JudgeGHatchett and face book under Judge Glenda Hatchett. Carol: Judge Hatchett, It’s been a pleasure speaking with you. Do you have any words for the parents that are reading this article and may be in need of some immediate advice? Judge Hatchett: Yes, I would have to say, “Talk to your children and continue to send strong messages because even when they don’t participate in the conversation, they are listening. ■ You can find more information on how to book Judge Hatchett for speaking engagements and how to order her new book at http://www.glendahatchett.com.

What started as an idea on a piece of paper in the basement of our house became reality, says Tina Carmichael, Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Clinton Consultants LLC (CC). In October 2006, she and her sister sat in the basement of their house and decided they would merge individual businesses into one. Tina was laid off and started a small pub28

They are in the process of co-authoring their journey in narrative form, which will discuss details about how they persevered through trials such as their fathers’ murder, personal unspoken and untold struggles and triumphs. Both sisters say they are not ashamed of their past because it is those experiences that have shaped them into who they are today. www.TRENDTOTRENDMAG.com

Their company, CC, serves as a business to business consulting company, providing services to a myriad of organizations, school districts and small to medium sized businesses. Their services range from business development solutions, workforce development trainings and EEO and administrative investigative services. They have found a niche that works and employ the old fashioned hand holding approach. Whether your business is struggling or in good standing, they have been mandated to reignite the fire and hope that once existed for many business owners and infuse business strategies that improve the profit margin, fulfill the overall mission, while ensuring measurable results. Tina says, “every dream starts with a seed being planted on good soil and as a company, we work long hours to meet our clients expectations and strive to be the anchor for business owners to help them stay the course.” The sisters agree and say about their clients, “their business is our business, we become their confidants and we understand, first hand, how to make the vision come full circle.” Tanya attributes their success from one source, God. To add to their list of aspirations, Tina is President of Clinton Community Enrichment Group which is a non-profit organization focused on increasing awareness of teens and young adults so that they are able to make better life choices. Both sisters hold their AS in Business Management and BS in Business Administration from Ohio Dominican University. MELANIE MERCHAND

www.sistersinshape.com MELANIE’S PHILOSOPHY:

Groove is a state of mind If there was ever a time to get in the groove, its now. Why? Because power is in the present moment. We can't change the past. We can't control the future. But we can work the moment we're in. We can navigate through it with all we've got. We can simply (O.K., sometimes not so simply), tune in to the voice inside us that helps us make good snap decisions and choose trustworthy friends. The voice is called different things: instinct, intuition, premonition, conscience. When we heed the advice of our inner voice, life often seems to flow. We're in the right place at the right time. People we meet are gifts. Their thoughts are food for the soul. We get enough sleep, have enough fun and are full of energy. We eat well and exercise wisely. We pursue our fullest potential. That is when we are in "The Groove". It is a state of mind and an act of being. Now is the time. ■

Physical fitness prevents seasonal flu infections far better than vaccines By: David Gutierrez

taying physically fit may reduce your time spent sick during cold and flu season by nearly 50 percent, according to a study conducted by researchers from Appalachian State University and published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine. Researchers followed 1,002 adults younger than age 86 for 12 weeks in either the fall or winter of 2008. Participants reported how much time they spent exercising and rated their own fitness on a 10-point scale. The researchers found that after adjusting for potentially complicating factors such as age, body mass index, education, fruit intake, marital status, mental stress and sex, people who exercised at least five days per week spent 43 percent less time with an upper respiratory tract infection than people who exercised one or fewer days per week. The reduction in sick time was caused both by lower infection and quicker recovery rates. People who self-reported as highly fit spent 46 percent less time sick than people who reported low fitness. Severity of illness was also 41 percent lower in those who reported high fitness or high levels of aerobic activity. In contrast to the strong results seen in the study, the jury is still out on the effectiveness of the much-hyped flu vaccines. Critics allege that the shots are unreliable and unnecessarily expose people to potentially severe side effects. "The bottom line is that there is no real advantage in having a flu shot," writes Andreas Moritz in her book Timeless Secrets of Health & Rejuvenation. "Certainly, given the frailty of so many of the oldest members of society, there is absolutely no reliable way of telling whether the flu or something else may have led to their death. The death rate in and out of the flu season is actually about the same. But then, as we have seen with AIDS, statistics can be manipulated in ways that support theories which have only one objective, to keep the medical business going." â–

Twenty First Century Female Pilot Blazing Trails In and Out of the Cockpit! - "Nikki The Airline Pilot" – A True-To-Life Story About Black History in the Making (BPRW) (BLACK PR WIRE)

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL.

aptain Tonika Johnson has not only cut her own path into the history books, but has created a means towards providing a positive mindset for youngsters to make their own way into the annals of history! Captain Johnson became the first black female to graduate from Central Missouri State University with a B.S. degree in Aviation Technology in 1994. A native of Springfield, Illinois, she became interested in aviation an early age. Her first flying lesson was during her senior year as a student at Southeast High School. A youth aviation program provided the means by which she completed her first solo flight. While in college, each summer she participated in internships with various airlines and the Illinois Department of Transportation. She notes: "The internships allowed me to promote aviation education while the employers became sponsors." Among her many firsts, Captain Johnson can include being US Airways

Express' first black female jet captain. She has been at the helm of Corporate flights, flown 86-passenger jets throughout the United States and later advanced to the McDonnellDouglas MD80 at Allegiant Airlines - adding Canada and the Caribbean to her routes. In her

own words: "A desire to see the world and make an impact by assisting where possible, inspired me to work as a jet captain in other countries like India and Africa. When I am not flying, I volunteer in many communities, promoting aviation, participating in reading programs worldwide, as well as, being commissioned to provide instruction in a classroom environment. 'Nikki The Airline Pilot,' a book for children ages three through eight years, was created after I became involved in a school's "I Can Read Program." It is a one-of-a-kind, written for first and second graders. The main objective of this appropriately easy-toread book, is to expose as many children as possible to aviation, while emphasizing the importance of reading. Although there is at least one non-fiction book in most school libraries that speak either of Bessie Coleman, Amelia Earhart or the Tuskegee Airmen, this book gives the reader a glimpse of the main character (the author) working on the job. To date, there are no other aviation books that have been written by a black female pilot discussing the day to day opera-

tions of a flight from a pilot's perspective. As the book is distributed, the goal is to empower young people (especially girls) who, with the help of parents, guardians, instructors and others, look to people of character, honesty and integrity to identify with as they grow up. Hopefully, books such as Nikki The Airline Pilot" will aid in this way by developing a positive “I can do it too" attitude from an early age." Librarian at Avondale Elementary School in Chicago, Illinois, Ms Ayanna Lewis, had this to say: "This book provides readers with a simple, yet accurate description of the pre-flight steps a pilot takes before lift-off with passengers." The second book of the series "Nikki The Airline Pilot" is scheduled for publication shortly. Captain Johnson has been featured in the State Journal-Register of Illinois and was honored by the Bessie Coleman Foundation in 2010. The following excerpts from a letter to Ms Johnson by the Bessie Coleman Foundation (BCF), on the occasion of their 15th anniversary says it all: "You have realized Bessie Coleman's dream that women of color participate fully in the opportunities in the sky. Therefore, you have been selected to be honored during the Fly-SisterFly Empowerment Breakfast ...at the Marriott Downtown in Memphis, Tennessee. You and several other successful sisters-in-aviation/aeronautics will be recognized by BCF, the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP), the Black Flight Attendants of America (BFAOA) and many other excited attendees. Writing history is what humans do with power. BCF respects that power and therefore we want to commend and preserve your contributions through the 'Fly-Sister-Fly 2010' DVD. You

Life Isn’t Fair BY ANGELA M. THOMAS

here are many changes in life that takes place without our permission. We face issues of homelessness, unemployment, broken relationships, natural disasters and death of a loved one. We may not know why things happen the way they do, but we can choose to have Jesus in our lives to help and strengthen us. Through His loving guidance we can become stronger during times of weakness, healed and not destroyed. We may feel hurt, bitter, angry, discouraged, frustrated or depressed, but with God’s help we can overcome and recover. Sometimes, our plans in life are thwarted by something we had no control over. But, change is something we can definitely count on. Everything changes in life except God, and letting the changes in our lives upset us won't keep them from occurring. Perhaps, we should look at and be thankful for the good things we do have, rather than dwelling on our losses. One of the most important things you can do for yourself is keep your perspective and be thankful for whatever you have. Life is what you make it. Live honestly and truly, and know that God loves you right where you are in your life at this time. I have learned long ago that with God on our side, even though we will experience hardships, disappointments and pain in life, we can always become better within time. I believe that God has ordered our steps and has many great plans for our lives. Give it a try by completely trusting God and believing that His plan for you is infinitely better than your own and it will prevent you from being disappointed by the unexpected changes in

life and with God. Life isn't fair, but God loves you and you are valuable and wonderfully made in His image. Fight the good fight of faith and trust in Him, for He will never leave you or forsaken you regardless of your circumstances. Remember, faith gives you peace and strength only if it’s not superficial. The deeper the faith, the greater it’s potential to carry you through the rough times. Faith not only can help you through a crisis, or times of uncertainty, it can help you to approach life after the hard times with a whole new perspective. It can help you adopt an outlook of hope and courage through faith to face reality. We can hope for positive change and trust in God to bind, heal and restore. God has given us His promise, but we must do our part as well to never give up on believing in Him. Not every phase of life is the same, nor should we try to make it that way. Keep learning and growing as you travel through life. You still have a chance to finish well. But if you give up the fight in the process, you’ll never reap the rewards that He’s patiently waiting to give to you. ■

The Everyday Woman Vol. 4

The Church Lady By Chinaz Love

T

hey crush people with unbearable religious demands and never lift a finger to ease the burden. Matthew 23:4

The Church Lady, carries the spirit of the Pharisees in that she attempts to apply the law to routine activities to appear holy. The Church Lady’s speech is peppered with church phrases. Her assignment is to identify the things of God in church activities, people, and the length of your skirt. Her spirit is tenacious, has the bite of a pitt-bull, and is relentless on the attacks of the Kingdom of God. All attacks are completed in the appearance of being Holy. Her emotions have become aggravated by hurt from deep within, and she moves in the frustration of not being

healed. Although she has encountered God, she denied Him of His ability to penetrate her wall of pain. Why is it that people believe that because they pronounced the name of their savior in every sentence, and quote a few scriptures that people will believe that they are Holy? The appearance of God is undeniable. In reading the scriptures, people who encountered God were struck with fear, or completely changed because they entered into His presence. I have an Aunt, that I have loved since a child. Her name is Rosalyn. I can recall a conversation with her, she was smiling excitedly and when I inquired of her happiness she told me that she had seen an angel! My Auntie told me a story of some random stranger who gave her a compliment and she knew that God sent that person to speak to her. From this story, I learned that God was identifiable,

brought joy, and visited my Aunt Ros! I can’t ever remember her telling me a bible story or saying, “praise the Lord,” but I knew then, and I know now, that she walks with God. If God is love, why are we leaving a trail of hurt feelings, stolen ministries, and accusations of not being part of the vision? This is the worst type of terrorist attack on the saints of the church. It is equivalent to conducting abortions in his Kingdom! Church Lady, watch out! His word warns us, "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness.” Matthew 23:27 NKJV. How may dead ministries and aborted saints exist inside you? A divide house cannot stand in, The Everyday Woman! ■

Trendy 2012 Fashion Tips For Your Office Wardrobe By Reena Mariel

t's already 2012 and we have been seeing a lot of upcoming trends that will keep our fashionable hearts thumping. However, since not all of us are blessed with a ginormous closet filled with beautiful garments, we can still be fashion forward with just a few items that are in this year. You can update your office wardrobe without having to bust your budget. Wanna know how? Here are some tips. TRENDY 2012 FASHION TIPS FOR YOUR OFFICE WARDROBE 1. Go For Pastels Spring 2012 is all about pastel shades, and so why not update your look with these? Pick items that are fit for your age and work area. Use crisp and streamlined designs. If you are in for an office casual look, you can choose a

pastel colored blazer such as bubblegum pink and then put it over a neutral colored top and a pair of sleek jeans. Accessories will help pull the look together. 2. Orange Burst Be a head turner with this year's official color:orange. From tops to bags, this color evokes a really energetic vibe that will definitely be hard to miss at work. If you think that the color is too loud, opt for subtle shades. Try wearing an orange polkadot top and pair it with your favorite pants. Make it look more retro glam with accessories. 3. Nautical Beauty This trend, which is popular during the summer time, can add a unique edge to your work wardrobe. A red top paired with white pants can make a lot of hearts flutter. Gold accessories like statement necklaces and bracelets will complete the look. You can also dress up a neutral top with a navy blue brass buttoned shirt for that sleek and crisp vibe. 4. Awesome Bold Prints Bring this trend into the workplace by wearing items that give a not so loud statement. Tone down a loud printed top with a neutral colored bottom and blazer. Accentuate it with the use of simple accessories. You wouldn't want to use equally loud statement pieces since your top is already a statement itself. If prints are not your thing, use statement accessories that have loud designs. It will spice up a boring outfit instantly! As you can see, you can definitely pull off these trends by just looking around for whatever pieces you have in your closet. You don't need to spend a lot of money on a new wardrobe. Being creative with your current wardrobe will surely help you transition into this years trends. ■ ◄ From the LeGair Fashion Gallery. Visit Legairbrand.com to see many more designs.

BEAUTY TRENDS

(NAPSI) - Just as diamonds are a girl’s best friend and the perfect designer bag can be worth a splurge, shapewear can be a secret weapon for looking slimmer and feeling more confident during special occasions, according to a recent survey. The survey, conducted by Bali® Intimate Apparel and LYCRA® beauty fabric, found that women identified comfort, how much better shapewear makes them look, and fabric lightness or thinness as the most important factors when purchasing shapewear. From whittling the waist and flattening the tummy to slimming the thighs and smoothing out lumps and bumps, celebrity stylist Jennifer Rade knows a few things about looking and feeling your best. Her client list is a who’s who of the music, film and television industry, including musicians Lady Antebellum. She believes it begins with the right foundation.

“Don’t wear shapewear that’s too small because you think it ‘holds you in’ better. That theory will only make you uncomfortable,” says Rade. “Accept the reality of your figure. Love it.” Finding shapewear that makes you look sleek, held in and smoothed out can be easier with these five tips from Rade: • First, what needs work? Identify the area you want help shaping. Most women identified the stomach, followed by thighs, hips and derriere, as the problem areas. Identifying specific areas can help you narrow down your search for the right shapewear pieces. • Second, know that it doesn’t have to hurt. A recent survey found that 35 percent of women avoid shapewear because they believe it’s uncomfortable. Shapewear made with LYCRA, however, moves with you. Options include light control, moderate control or firm control. • Third, you’re probably wearing the wrong size. Looking 10 pounds smaller doesn’t mean you have to wear shapewear that’s too small. Proper-fitting shapewear is more effective. To find your size, start with your current dress or dress pant size and this conversion: 4−6 = Small, 8−10 = Medium, 12−14 = Large, 16−18 = XLarge, 20−22 = 2XLarge. • Fourth, update your lingerie drawer. For each pair of shoes you have, you should have one shapewear piece. Having shapewear for all style occasions-a little black dress, cigarettestyle trousers, billowy blouses-ensures an effortless, slimming and elegant look no matter what you’re wearing. • Fifth, believe it. Feel beautiful. Shapewear can give you great comfort and fit and help you look and feel elegant and confident. Would you believe there are also opportunities for coral reef diving, underwater photography, seeing unique animals and visiting UNESCO World Heritage Sites? It’s all in the Republic of Seychelles, a small nation comprised of 115 islands off the eastern coast of mainland Africa. Centuries of isolation from mankind have allowed for pristine ecosystems of unique plant and animal species found nowhere else on earth, and led writers to make comparisons with the biblical Garden of Eden. The Seychellois people are a mixture of French, African, Indian, Arab and Chinese descent, and largely Roman Catholic. The majority of the population lives on Mahe the nation’s largest island and home to the nation’s capital, Victoria. The Seychelles’ famed UNESCO World Heritage Sites are Aldabra Atoll and the Vallee de Mai Nature Reserve. UNESCO’s homepage on Aldabra explains its inclusion on their list for possessing the world’s largest giant tortoise population. Vallee de Mai on Praslin Island is a natural forest of coco-de-mer palm trees, which only grow in Seychelles. Coco-demer trees produce the largest seed of all plants, usually weighing 40 to 50 pounds. The trees themselves may live 200 to 400 years, according to the Seychelles Islands Foundation. Clear water and white sand beaches makes Seychelles the perfect location for water activities and for hosting SUBIOS, an annual underwater film and image festival attracting photographers, filmmakers and conservationists worldwide. And it may be the perfect location if you seek a one-of-a-kind vacation! ■
