High standards TYTANPOL®, titanium white produced by Grupa Azoty POLICE, meets the European Union requirements both in terms of technology and product purity, as well as the requirements of Food and Drug Administration (FDA). TYTANPOL® pigments can be used in products that come into contact with foodstuff s. They have the NSF® 14 certificate, granted by the American National Sanitation Foundation. TYTANPOL® pigments have been registered under Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, as amended. Titanium dioxide pigments are safe to transport, apply and dispose of. They are not classified as hazardous materials under the UN Orange Book or international regulations on transport.

Applications of Grupa Azoty’s pigments Paints and coatings Over a half of Grupa Azoty’s total titanium dioxide pigment output is used by the paint industry, where it is applied to achieve the right colour and opacity of coatings. The pigment added to the coating enhances its durability and ensures effective surface covering, which results in a thinner layer with higher performance properties. Pigments are used in the production of: decorative and architectural paints, industrial coatings, printing paints.

Plastics The plastics industry consumes a significant and growing portion of titanium dioxide pigments – currently as much as 25%. Plastics are gradually replacing traditional materials such as wood or steel. A vast majority of plastics require pigmentation to achieve the right opacity and colour. The properties of titanium dioxide make it the ideal pigment to be applied to most of plastic products. Approximately 90% of titanium white consumed by the plastics industry is used for the manufacture of thermoplastic products. Because of their properties and conditions in which they are applied, most thermosetting plastics require pigmentation with those types of titanium white which have sufficient light and weather resistance.

Paper industry Titanium dioxide is used in the paper industry mostly for the production of high-quality ultra-white papers, especially ultra-thin papers. Titanium dioxide pigments can be both added to paper pulp and used for coating outer paper layers, thus ensuring high quality of paper sheets. With minimum addition of pigment (usually no more than a few percent), they can produce an effect of paper opacity thanks to their high opacifying qualities. Titanium dioxide enhances printing properties of paper. Titanium dioxide can also be applied to decorative and laminated paper. Its concentration in decorative paper can be as high as 40%.

Application Laboratory

Powering Creation

Grupa Azoty’s objective is to enable its customers to effectively use its products, therefore it provides support with solving any problems related to their application. A wide range of recipes, a variety of techniques related to product pigmentation and processing, as well as multiplicity of product applications require using different types of titanium white. The Application Laboratory offers support when choosing the optimum kind of pigment, taking into consideration all the requirements of a particular application. Before choosing a particular type of pigment, the following should be taken into account: requirements regarding the final application (type of product, its thickness, degree of opacity, colour, application, etc.); properties of pigment (physical and chemical properties, colour, dispersibility, resistance); technical feasibility of pigmenting. To ensure that the right type of pigment has been chosen, it is necessary to do both laboratory research and tests on the industrial scale. Grupa Azoty POLICE’s Application Laboratory offers samples of particular pigment types, and helps its customers to choose the pigment meeting their expectations.
