Dollar General Coming to Campville

The Town of Owego Planning Board Reviews a site plan for a new Dollar General store on Rt. 17C in Campville. On July 26, the Town of Owego Planning Board met to review a site plan to construct a Dollar General Store in Campville on an empty 5.25 acre lot at 6946 State Route 17C. The plan was submitted by Franklin Land Associates C/O Bohler Engineering MA, LLC., which finds property and builds buildings per their customers’ specifications. The Dollar General store in Campville would be 10,640 square feet - older Dollar General stores are usually 9,100 square feet. There will be 36 parking spaces, signage, a six-foot tall privacy fence on two sides, and outdoor lighting . If all other permits are approved, con-

Free Food Giveaway - August 6 Low to moderate income individuals and families are invited to participate in a free food giveaway on Saturday, August 6, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Tioga County Rural Ministry (TCRM), 143 North Avenue in Owego.

Registration is required. Call TCRM at (607) 687-3021 before Wednesday, August 3 at 4:00 pm. Call ASAP to be included as one of TCRM’s 125 registrants. Bring your own bags or boxes.

struction could begin before the snow falls - if not, then in the Spring. It should take about 120 days from the start of construction to completion. The average time to build a Dollar General is about 72 days. The July 26 meeting was attended by many neighbors of the proposed building site. They are concerned about a commercial business in a rural neighborhood, increased traffic of cars and delivery trucks, 24-hour outdoor lights, and the impact to water runoff, flooding, home values, and the already-stressed volunteer emergency services. The nearest Dollar General to the proposed Campville site is just over the river in Apalachin.

Many people attended the July 26 Planning Board Meeting

Nichols ConnectALL Program Public Meeting TEAM Tioga invites the public to attend an informational session to learn more about the New York State ConnectALL project taking place in the Town and Village of Nichols this summer. The Town of Nichols has been named one of four communities to take part in New York State’s ConnectALL program, an initiative aimed at bringing affordable broadband internet access to rural communities across the state. A public meeting will be held on Thursday, August 4 at 7:00 pm at the Nichols Fire District Community Hall, 39 West River Road in Nichols. Representatives from the participating partners and the internet service provider will be on hand to share information about the project, answer questions, and help residents and businesses sign up. Work for the project will begin in the summer of 2022. The ConnectALL program is transforming New York’s digital infrastructure and expanding broadband access, affordability, and equity statewide. LeeAnn Tinney, Director of Tioga

County Economic Development & Planning said, “Access to high-speed broadband is critically important for economic development. Working to make highspeed broadband availability in Nichols a reality is possible due to strategic partnerships. When NYS ConnectALL funds became available, the Town of Nichols was well-positioned to partner with the Southern Tier Network, the New York Power Authority, and Tioga County. Our goal is for this project to serve as a collaborative model for future projects.” In the Town of Nichols, the capital funding provided by ConnectALL, along with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds provided by the Tioga County Legislature, and ARPA funds from the Town of Nichols, will allow Southern Tier Network (STN) to build a 35-mile open access, fiber-to-the-premise network to reach unserved and underserved households. STN will collaborate with Tioga County, the Town of Nichols, and New York Power Authority (NYPA) to complete the project.

19 Delaware Ave., Endicott, NY 13760 On July 16, 2022, ten Apalachin Lions renovated the Apalachin Lions Park at the western end of Main Street and Route 434, which has been transformed thanks to their efforts. The Lions also improved the Garden Club plot across Main Street which they voluntary maintain for them. In the Lions’ park, three very large broken tree branches (from the snow storm) were removed, many shrubs trimmed, the old creosote logs/supports were removed, and the park is now ready for a new welcome sign which is being designed. The Town of Owego agreed to pick up

the debris that was collected, which amounted to three large piles. A neighboring business owner also agreed to take some of the debris. Lions who participated in the project include Lions Pete Sylvester, Dick Tulsey, Paul Huonker (who directed the project), John Whiting, Gary Iacovazzi, Gerry, Mark Strazik, Rick Gray, Steve Brill, and Bob Jensen. Please drive by and take a look. It’s at the western end of Main Street. Once the Lions get the new sign approved and installed, it will look even better.
