The Historic Owego Marketplace announced that the 41st annual Strawberry Festival will be held June 16 and 17 in downtown Owego.

In addition, a Rock-n-Run event will take place at Hickories Park in Owego on June 15.

With a theme of “Strawberry Magic” this year, the streets of Owego will transform for the annual event that features hundreds of vendors and over 25 bands located on several stages throughout downtown Owego.

Lucky Hare Brewing officially opened their new taproom in Owego on May 26. The new taproom is located at 17 Lake Street in the space formerly occupied by Farmhouse Brewery.

Ian Conboy, co-owner and head brewer of Lucky Hare Brewing, was the first to see the opportunity to open a taproom in Owego. “Owego is a great community that has a “hard work” culture that is similar to that of Lucky Hare’s.”

On Saturday the parade steps off at 9:30 am and will feature entertainment and community representation. The daylong event continues until 5:00pm.

There will also be magicians, jugglers, superheroes, and an addition this year of four individual buskers that will be roaming the festival on Saturday and providing street music. Jackson Cavalier, who has busked at the festival in past years, was voted Best Busker in Rochester, NY, multiple times and is bringing his full band, The Anarchist Zen Collective, to

For the Rock-n-Run event on Thursday, June 15, and taking place at Hickories Park in Owego, a “Fun Run for Kids” will kick things off at 5:15 pm, followed by a pre-race warm up with Simple Form Pilates at 5:40 pm, and the 5K Run and Walk begins at 6:00 pm.

There will be a kickoff concert at the bandshell from 5:00 to 9:00 pm as well as music along the 5K route. There will also be food trucks on site.

Rain or shine, there will be yard games and refreshments. Children and teens will be able to sign up for the Summer Readers’ Club to receive free books and ice cream throughout the summer. If you can’t sign up for the Summer Readers’ Club on June 24, signups will continue through July 10 – just stop by the library. Signups for a variety of other summer programming will be available.

There will be singing and storytelling, a circus-like performance, a pirate captain, and the Sciencenter.

The Friends of the Library are still accepting book donations. Place your gently-used books on the porch of the library under the “Donations” sign. You can do this even when the library is closed. Please note that the library is no longer selling books by the bag.

Tioga County Fair August 8 -August 12

The 164th Tioga County Fair will be held August 8 to August 12, at the fairgrounds in Marvin Park in Owego.

The Fair kicks off with the Painted Pony Championship Rodeo on Tuesday, August 8, at 7:00 pm. Fairgoers will see professional riders from all over competing in bull riding, bronco busting, barrel racing, calf roping and more. Also in attendance will be regional rodeo queens.

New this year is the ATV and Dirt Bike Rodeo on Thursday. Riders will traverse a short, timed obstacle course

for their share of the $1,000 purse. The Dash for Cash features local horse riders competing for cash prizes on Thursday.

Truck and Tractor Pulls highlight Saturday’s Grandstand entertainment.

The ever popular Demo Derbies are Wednesday and Friday nights.

Admission is $15 per person, including ALL rides, ALL grandstand shows, ALL midway shows, petting zoo, 4H Livestock exhibition, and parking.

A new event has been added to this year’s lineup of events for the 2023 Owego Strawberry Festival, this one at Hickories Park in Owego on June 15.

The Rock-n-Run event, presented by Tioga State Bank and the Historic Owego Marketplace, welcomes families, individuals, and anyone that wants to participate in a 5K Run / Walk, or the Kids Fun Run, all taking place at Hickories Park in Owego.

Medals for the race are presented by Tri-Town Insurance, and there will be other giveaways and prizes.

Also, for the event, take in live music at the park’s bandshell with Tim Ruffo opening things up from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, followed by Next to Kin, who will perform from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.

The Kids Fun Run (1-mile) takes

place at 5:15 pm. At 5:40 pm Pilates will be offered as a warm up, and the 5K Run / Walk will begin at 6:00 pm.

Sponsors for this event include Tioga State Bank as a Presenter, Tri-Town Insurance as a Medal Sponsor, the Owego Rotary Club, John’s Fine Foods, and Waterman Café and Tasting Barn.

There will also be food vendors and other activities throughout the event, so head on down to walk, run, or just listen to some live music, enjoy some food and a beverage, and help kickoff the 41st Annual Owego Strawberry Festival.

The Festival continues with the Block Party on Friday, from 5:00 to 10:00 pm, and on Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and with the parade kicking off at 9:30 am in downtown Owego.

Tioga Downs to Host Three Dog Night for Veterans Benefit Concert

Tioga Downs Casino Resort to donate 100% of ticket sales to the Southern Tier Veterans Support Group

Nichols, NY – Tioga Downs Casino Resort announces it will hold a benefit concert to raise funds for the Southern Tier Veterans Support Group on July 28 at 8 p.m.

Three Dog Night, the iconic rock band from the ‘60s and ‘70s, will take the stage to perform some of their biggest songs.

Tioga Downs will donate 100% of ticket sales to the STVSG, a NewYork based public charity that provides a network of resources for veterans, service members and their families across the Southern Tier of New York and Northern Tier of Pennsylvania. Tioga Downs Casino Resort owner Jeffrey Gural will also match the ticket sales.

“We’re grateful to have the opportunity to host Three Dog Night and raise funds for this amazing local charity,” said Tioga Downs owner Jeff Gural. “While this summer concert is a great way to bring people together for music and fun, the real excitement comes from the support we will be able to provide to our local and regional community.

Tickets for the concert go on sale Thursday, May 18 at 10:00 am. Fans can purchase the $20 tickets at the Tioga Downs Casino Resort gift shop or online at Ticketmaster.

The sixth regular meeting of 2023 of the Tioga County Legislature will be held at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, June 13, in the auditorium of the county office building at 56 Main street in Owego.

All committee meetings and legislative worksessions will be held in the

Free Community Ice Cream Social - June 16

The Little Meadows United Methodist Church will have its first Free Community Ice Cream Social of the Summer on Friday, June 15, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.

Everyone is invited to join in on the social time, meet your neighbors,

just have a scoop of ice cream or a brownie sundae.

Book Sale at Coburn Library - June 9, 10

The Friends of the Coburn Free Library are sponsoring a Summer Book Extravaganza on Friday, June 9, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and on Saturday, June 10, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

There will be lots of fiction and nonfiction for children and adults. DVDs,

CDs and audio books will also be available.

The Coburn Free Library is at 275 Main Street in Owego. You can access this once-a-summer opportunity via the back entrance which means no stairs to climb.
