Welcome aboard. Thank you for flying Citywing and welcome aboard this flight today. With a New Year brings a renewed sense of positivity to us all, a chance to introduce new regimes to our lives and make and plan any changes for the year ahead. This is also true of many businesses and Citywing is no exception. At this time of year we put our marketing and PR plan into action, finalise our schedule for the year and implement any new policies. January is also our financial year end so there’s a lot to do! We’ve tweaked our schedule to improve connections for our Gloucester passengers, been voted 27th in the world for punctuality* and chosen the charities that we will support for 2016. All of these points are mentioned further into this edition, so do enjoy the read! January is also the time of year when we start to think about summer holidays and plan breaks for the year. I myself have planned some family time off when the weather improves and will be using the Citywing services again this year to explore the UK, Scotland and Ireland. At this time of year, we see a high volume of bookings for the entire year and it is these forward bookings that become the foundation for the year ahead. We build on these bookings, amend schedules and implement extra services where early demand dictates. It‘s this flexibility that makes Citywing unique. Customer focused services, impeccable punctuality and being locally based on the Isle of Man are the reasons that our passengers keep coming back. Thank you again for choosing Citywing to fly today and we hope to see you onboard again this year!

Citywing News CITYWING SOARS ABOVE COMPETITION IN PUNCTUALITY RANKINGS Citywing is celebrating having once again beaten its on-Island competition to be ranked 27th worldwide for flight punctuality.

Blackpool, Glasgow, Gloucester and Newcastle. Citywing flights are operated exclusively for the company by EU airline Van Air – an airline that has operated the versatile and reliable Let 410 aircraft out of Ronaldsway for more than 10 years.

According to FlightView’s ‘Global Airlines On-Time’ report for November 2015, 89.5% of Citywing flights arrived at their destination on time. Neither of Citywing’s main competitors, EasyJet and FlyBe, were noted within the top 60 airlines ranked in the report. Island-serving airlines British Airways and Aer Lingus also failed to appear within the top 60.

Managing Director at Citywing, David Buck, said: ‘We are absolutely thrilled to have had Citywing’s punctual service acknowledged in this report from FlightView. Citywing consistently performs well in terms of punctuality, and we strive to maximise customer satisfaction and provide passengers with a reliable service.

Citywing offers reliable routes from the Island to a number of UK destinations, including Belfast,

‘Being Island-based is a great advantage for Citywing; as well having aircraft and pilots based in the Isle of Man, there is 24-hour

maintenance support available in Citywing’s Ronaldsway hangar, all of which contributes to our outstanding levels of arrival punctuality.’ David added: ‘It is particularly beneficial to be based in the Isle of Man during periods of adverse weather. Even taking into account instances in which Citywing has had to delay flights due to bad weather conditions, we still comfortably beat performances from the likes of EasyJet and Flybe. ‘We are confident that Citywing can continue to outperform its competitors, and provide its loyal customers with the best possible service in 2016 and beyond.’ Visit www.citywing.com for full information and to keep up to date with Citywing’s latest news.

CITYWING ENHANCES GLOUCESTER AIRPORT SERVICES FOR 2016 Citywing is delighted to be enhancing its services at Gloucester Airport in 2016, with passengers now able to travel to Newcastle and Glasgow, routing via the Isle of Man.

8

Citywing has adjusted operating schedules to add these new connecting options alongside the Belfast City connecting service it provides four days a week.

Operations Director at Gloucester Airport, Darren Lewington, said: ‘These flights are welcome additions to our niche network. Citywing has demonstrated the clear demand for short-haul services from Gloucestershire and we’re pleased to be able to expand our passenger services in this way. Our 15-minute check-in time and free parking mean that these routes are a practical alternative to the hassle and cost of using larger airports.’

Weekly Citywing flights to Newcastle will depart on Mondays and return on Thursdays, with Glasgow departures on Fridays returning on either Sundays or Mondays each week. The two routes will each involve a stopover of around 40 minutes at Isle of Man Airport before continuing to their destination. Other departure options, with slightly longer stopovers in the Isle of Man, are also available on the new connecting routes. Managing Director at Citywing, David Buck, said: ‘We are always looking for new ways to improve Citywing services, and it is brilliant that we have been able to respond to the needs of our Gloucester customer base to offer these new connecting flights from Gloucester Airport. We look forward to welcoming existing and new passengers on board Citywing flights in 2016 and, as always, will continue to provide our customers with the best possible service.’

Judith has been involved in aviation since 1984 when she joined Newcastle Airport as a check-in agent. When she moved to the Island in 1990, Judith joined Manx Airlines as a Customer Service Agent. She continued with Manx Airlines progressing to Duty Manager in Ronaldsway then moved to British Airways on the island to become their Station Manager and then to Manx Regional. Judith moved to Manx2 in 2006 having assisted to set up the business with the then Chairman, Noel Hayes and then to Citywing when she was involved as part of the management buyout. Married to Brian and mother to Dawn, it’s fair to say that Judith‘s passion is her granddaughter Evie who is just 2 and a half. Once a month, Judith travels to the UK to mind Evie for her parents and takes great pleasure in watching her develop and grow.

Judes other passion is travel and when she isn’t working or travelling to see her granddaughter, Judith is off exploring the world. You would be hard pushed to find a country she has not visited but she took no hesitation in saying her favourites are Barbados and Dubai!

CITYWING ANNOUNCES TWO NOMINATED CHARITIES FOR 2016 Citywing is delighted to name Cruse Bereavement Care Isle of Man and Craig‘s Heartstrong Foundation as its joint Charities of the Year for 2016.

9

Both of the Isle of Man-based charities will receive 12 return tickets to use for fundraising during the year on any Citywing routes to and from the Island, the donation of proceeds from the popular annual ‘Plane Pull’ event, and the chance to show a promotional video on Citywing flights. Cruse Bereavement Care Isle of Man is a confidential bereavement support service that promotes the wellbeing of bereaved people, and offers support to anyone bereaved to help understand their grief and cope with their loss. Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation was set up by family and friends of Craig Lunt, a young Manx footballer who died in 2005 due to an undiagnosed heart defect. The charity raises funds to enable heart screening of people aged 1435 on the Island, and to purchase and donate lifesaving defibrillator equipment to local schools and sports clubs. David Buck, Managing Director of Citywing, said: ‘We are very pleased to be able to support two local charities for 2016, and excited to be working with both Cruse Bereavement Care Isle of Man and Craig‘s Heartstrong Foundation in a number of ways throughout the year. ‘Both of these charities contribute enormously to the wellbeing of our Island’s community, and we are honoured to assist in raising funds for and awareness of their services to help ensure that they continue.

It is both a responsibility and a pleasure for us, as a local business, to support the important work the charity sector carries out in the Isle of Man.’ Les Watson, Chairman at Cruse Bereavement Care Isle of Man, said: ‘Our charity is delighted to have been selected as Citywing’s joint Charity of the Year for 2016. We look forward to working with Citywing to help us raise awareness and important funds, so that we can continue to help bereaved people in the Isle of Man.’ Paul Healey, Chairman at Craig‘s Heartstrong Foundation, added: ‘We are absolutely delighted to have been chosen as one of the charities that Citywing will support during 2016. We would like to thank them for their support, not only for us, but for all the charities that they help each year. We will ensure that all money raised for Craig‘s Heartstrong Foundation will continue to be put to good use here on the Isle of Man.’

Shopping in Gloucester offers a mix of high street stores, independent shops, speciality markets, modern shopping centres and a retail outlet, all within 15 minutes from the Airport...

12

The main shopping area of the city fans out from The Cross. This is where the ancient streets of Northgate, Eastgate, Southgate and Westgate meet. You will find well known national brands interspersed with independent traders. The Westgate Quarter encompasses a growing number of small, independent shops and cafes on Westgate Street. Down the charming College Court, you can find attractive boutiques nestling in this charming thoroughfare including the House of the Tailor of Gloucester - the actual house that Beatrix Potter set her story. On College Street you will find more independent and family-run businesses set against the precinct of the breathtaking Gloucester Cathedral. There has been a quiet food revolution in Gloucester and the Westgate Quarter has an excellent delicatessen, several cafes and the odd historic pubs specialising in local produce. The Eastgate Shopping Centre with its magnificent portico (built in 1856), features more high street names plus there is also the indoor Eastgate Market with its plethora of stalls ranging from traditional Gloucester sausages at the butchers to a haberdashery. The market is open Monday to Saturday. Across the road is the Kings Walk Shopping Centre with stores featuring leading fashion, music and entertainment brands. There is a plaque on the floor of the centre which marks the site of one of the original Roman defensive towers.

Gloucester is well served by a train station on a main line and many bus services to other towns in the area.

The residents of Gloucester were asked to vote for their favourite historic buildings and locations. With more than 500 listed buildings and numerous wellloved locations dotted around the city, the response was broad and varied, but after sifting through the mountains of correspondence and listening to many stories about Gloucester and what it means to people, a number of muchloved heritage sites, buildings and features stood out as clear favourites. Gloucester is steeped in history. It is most famous for its Norman Cathedral, made famous by the Harry Potter films as the setting for Hogwarts School. The scenes featuring the intricately decorated corridors of Hogwarts were filmed in Gloucester Cathedral, It is also noted as the burial place of King Edward II. The historic Victorian docks are also popular with visitors, described by Charles Dickens himself as ‘extraordinary’, and granted port status by Queen Elizabeth I in 1580. Gloucester is the most inland port in Britain, and the docks are dominated by towering warehouses which stand proud along the water’s edge. Visitors can see skilled shipwrights and riggers 1. T

hink ‘Titanic‘, and a host of associations synonymous with the ill-fated ship spring to mind: tragedy, luxury, man‘s reckless pride, gaping class divides and, oddly, romance, thanks to one box-office breaking film.

After 100 years, the RMS Titanic continues to fascinate millions around the globe. The sinking of the luxury ocean liner on April 15th 1912, along with 1,514 of its passengers and crew, shook the world, catching the imagination of writers ever since with countless books and films on the subject. Titanic Belfast Museum opened last year and has been pulling in thousands of tourists since. The museum aims to impress with grandeur on a similar scale to the ill-fated ship – the building’s architecture is quite a statement as you can see opposite and below.

The Belfast Titanic Museum is not just about the loss of life, it is also a celebration of the achievements of the former designers and ship builders of Belfast. Pools of water shimmer at the base of the building next to a bold steel cutout Titanic sign. The central atrium through the entrance reveal a light and airy open plan void with more textured walls, dark and rusty in colour, juxtaposing sharply with the clean glass elevators. Many striking designs do not age well, like the grey concrete creations of the 1970s, but the Titanic Belfast Museum could easily still look fresh for the 200-year Titanic anniversary.

The exhibition starts with Belfast‘s roots as an industrial centre of the 1800s, when it was famed as the linen capital of the world, producing huge amounts, from the flax plant, right up to bed sheets for export. The city was so thriving, that its population was bigger than Belfast’s present day number. Setting the scene, superimposed life-size silhouettes are projected on to the walls, so you share the streets with the Victorian Belfast residents as they busy themselves with daily life: walking, talking, shopping, children running and playing – you’re immediately immersed in the era, before the Titanic looms into view.

Walking from room to room, you are introduced to the men who dreamt up the most luxurious ship of her time - the designers - their names, faces, backgrounds, wages, and eyewitness accounts of what they were like as managers. The pride that must have buzzed in Belfast’s ship-building docks during the Titanic’s construction appears to have lasted a century present in the museum’s care and attention in creating an exhibition that offers technical design detail, but never overwhelming the user, simply awe-inspiring at each step.

Engaging Multi-media experiences are throughout: touch-screen animations guide you through the ship‘s construction in bitesized explanations, an immersive surround animation gives you a virtual tour through the decks of the ship, and screens beneath your

>

feet take you on an underwater journey to the decaying remains in the Atlantic depths. It‘s stunning.

There are of course physical exhibits to view – recreations of a lifeboat and of the first, second and third class cabins. Surprisingly, there are no actual surviving objects from the Titanic on proud display – perhaps the curators could not justify the huge prices that the rare items fetch, for example, a Titanic menu recently made six-figures at auction. Whatever the reason, the experience is not diminished. Throughout the museum, there is deep respect for the hundreds who lost their lives - the exhibition ends with description of how the bodies were recovered, where they were buried, what White Star‘s actions were after the disaster, how relatives of the deceased reacted back home, and the many stories of the survivors.

15

Many have laid claim to the ship‘s famous history - Southampton and Queenstown (known as Cobh) were her last stops before setting off on her doomed maiden voyage, New York was her destination and Halifax was where some of the deceased were laid to rest - but Belfast deserves international acknowledgement for creating the world’s most famous ship. So why NewcastleGateshead?

You may wonder why the destination is described as NewcastleGateshead.... Newcastle (a city on the north bank of the River Tyne) and Gateshead (a town on the south bank of the River Tyne) have been transformed into a single cultural and cosmopolitan visitor destination: NewcastleGateshead (think Buda Pest). The two places are closely linked - by seven bridges across the river – and visitor attractions and events can be found on both sides.
