This unique credentialing opportunity is the first of its kind among Richmond-area independent schools. The Leadership Program combines hands-on learning with academic studies, enabling participants to become more effective leaders at Steward and beyond.

Leadership focus areas: Co n fl i c t R e s o l u t i o n G l o b a l En g a g e m e nt S o c i a l J u s t i ce Since the program completes at the end of junior year, students will be able to more confidently and effectively step into leadership roles in their senior year at Steward and beyond. They can reference their work and successful completion of the program on their college applications.

Applications will be available at the start of the 2021-22 school year; a link will be provided to all freshmen. Applicants who best demonstrate academic excellence and a desire for leadership opportunities within the community will be prioritized for acceptance. Debbie Robson Merit Scholars and Impact Scholars will automatically be invited to join in the Leadership Program. Starting in 2022-23, sophomores will also be able to apply for the program. There will be approximately 15-20 total spots available.

SO P H O MO R E YE A R S

These years will focus on cohort-based work in leadership studies, with a focus on the following themes: Year 1: introduction to leadership, conflict resolution Year 2: global engagement, social justice Program participants will meet in-person twice per marking period for an extended lunch period for activities, discussions, and guest speakers, or for off-campus field trips/opportunities. In between meetings, participants will be required to participate in online asynchronous assignments and discussions. J UN IO R YE A R

Capstone project: Individuals will identify an issue or challenge at Steward and/or in the greater Richmond community. Each student will design a project that uses the leadership skills they’ve learned over the course of the program to find solutions and enact change. They will present their findings and conclusions to members of the Steward community.
