63. Outstanding Neapolitan Angel with Carved Wooden Wings in Vignette with Young Lad 22” (56 cm.) h. x 15”w. x 7”d. arrangement. 17”h. angel. Arranged upon a gold-leaf painted wooden base is a sculpted form to depict ground cover, carved tree with sculpted buds and a glass-topped pond. Overlooking the scene is an angel with polychromed terra cotta head having sculpted windblown brown curly hair, enamel eyes, parted lips, tow-wrapped armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs to above the knees, painted sandals on bare feet, antique gold satin gown with metallic thread trim, and with (detachable) carved and painted wooden wings. Seated and looking up at the angel in a beseeching manner is a young lad with polychromed terra head, enamel eyes, painted features, towwrapped body, carved wooden limbs, original peasant costume. Further adorning the scene are two carved wooden fantasy sea animals perched alongside the pond. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Neapolitan, attributed to Nicola Ingaldo, mid/late 1700s, whose specialty was the creation of carved wing angels, and whose works were recorded in the inventory of Ferdinand II of the Two Sicilies. Value Points: outstanding Neopolitan vignette highlighted by carved wing angel is remarkably preserved. $4500/6500

64. Three Tyrolean Carved Wooden Travelers on Horseback 12” (30 cm.) Each of the carved wooden travelers is one piece, carved in seated pose and designed for placement on the back of accompanying wooden horse; each has well defined facial features and well-sculpted details of hair and beards, with sculpted and painted crowns or hats, each with sculpted costume. The horses have carved and painted saddles, blankets, and furled flags at their mane, and each is posed on a wooden platform. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Tyrolean, early 1800s, the figures may have been designed to represent Balthazar, Caspar and Melchior. Value Points: presented as a set with matching original bases, each figure is unique in its facial features, costuming including accessories, posture, and even in the presentation of three entirely individual horses. $4000/5500

65. French Miniature Gilded Metal Statuary in Glass Dome 4” (10 cm.) Bronze miniature fountain statuary with rich gilt finish has fountain spout from man’s face and is surmounted by two winged cherubs which support a flower-filled urn, entirely resting upon a cast brass base and presented on ebony base under a glass dome. Excellent condition. French, mid-1800s. $300/400

One-piece carved wooden head and torso, oval face with elongated throat and slightly modeled bosom, solid dome, deeply-sculpted eye sockets, dark enamel eyes, shaded brown eye shadow and brows, aquiline nose, closed mouth, shaped waist, defined rounded hips, dowel-jointing at shoulders and elbows, swivel lower arms and hands with expressivelyposed fingers, original wooden cage skirt base. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Continental, late 18th century. Value Points: the outstanding quality of facial and hand sculpting, including detailed ears and eyes, are enhanced by fine original painted finish, with early velvet and gold metallic gown. $8000/11,500

Poured wax head demurely tilted downward, downcast painted eyes, brunette mohair up-swept wig, very slender elongated body with padded armature to allow stylish pose, painted boots, posed on velvet-covered base. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: made in France (paper label). Comments: French, Medames Lafitte-Desirat, circa 1912, from a series of dolls illustrating contemporary fashion of the early 20th century. Value Points: the elegant lady wears green velvet dress with faux-fur trim at the hem, and is posed to allow “swishing” of the skirt, with matching oversized faux-fur stole and muff, and with green-bead-tasseled purse. $800/1000 68. Poured wax shoulderhead of lady with painted sideglancing eyes, closed mouth, blonde mohair wig in rolled curls under fitted feathered cloche, wax arms with posed bent elbows, posed seated on stool which is actually a candy box, with painted silver shoes, silk skirt, parasol. The base of box removes for access to candy, and the box has original paper label of the Paris candy shop Marquise Sevigne. Condition: very good, some costume restoration. Comments: Paris, circa 1910. Value Points: charming dilettante haughty pose. $400/500

Of cast metal with rich gilt finish, the vitrine has double doors on the upper section with beveled glass doors and scrolled crest, ball-footed base with centered porcelain medallion depicting a courtier and lady in romantic setting. 72. Outstanding Mid-1800s “Scene in the Nursery” Embroidery-over-Engraving 20” (51 cm.) x 17”. Set under glass in its original gold leaf wooden frame is an early engraving of a nursery scene, made notable for the very fine embroidery work over the actual image, with the singular exception of the young boy’s face which is “set” within the embroidery and lends a dimensional effect. The scene, itself, is elaborate, featuring not only the napping young lad who appears to have tired of practicing the nearby cello, but also a lone girl who stands facing away, and including numerous toys such as five different dolls, as well as toy animals, rolly-dolly, toy horn, and more. Excellent condition. Mid-1800s, an old penciled note on the backside indicates provenance from Vienna. $900/1200
