A cast bronze fourshelf etagere has set-back shelves and elaborate columnar sides, scrolled lattice design at the back, and is lavishly filled with a bounty of porcelain including Staffordshire teapot, sugar, creamer and two cups and saucers, along with miniature trinket box, lattice bowls, and silver basket, teapot, and candlestick. Generally excellent. 19th century. $800/1200

3. Miniature Silver Tableware and Cutlery 2” (5 cm.) h. pot. Including lidded chocolate pot with claw feet and bone handle, creamer, mug, lidded tray, cup and saucer, service bowl with repousse edge, double-handled tray, two knives, tongs, two forks, and ten teaspoons. Each piece is marked sterling or with hallmarks. Excellent condition. Late 19th century. $300/500

A circular pedestal table with tripod base has ogee border and exotic woods in geometric design; the table top can be tilted when not in use, and is laid with a very elaborate silver service, including lidded coffee pot, lidded teapot, lidded creamer, creamer, and toast rack (each with impressed hallmarks or “sterling” mark. 8. Early-Period American Golden Mohair Teddy by Ideal 13� (33 cm.) Having a rich golden mohair coat, the teddy has a swivel head with rounded face and protruding rounded snout with brown embroidered nose and mouth, side-stitched ears, black shoe-button eyes, jointed elongated arms with felt paw pads, side-jointed legs with felt paw pads. 9. German Brown “Record Peter” Monkey on Wheeled Base by Steiff 9” (23 cm.) Of dark brown mohair, with pressed felt face and ears, amber glass inset eyes, white mohair beard, jointed long arms with felt hands, jointed legs in bent knee pose with felt feet; the monkey is posed seated upon a cast iron frame with red wooden wheels and is designed to move forward and backward when pulled along. Generally excellent. Germany, Steiff, circa 1949, the monkey has original “Made in US Zone Germany” cloth tag. $400/600

10. American Wooden Character, Model 205, by Schoenhut with Carved Hair 16” (41 cm.) Carved wooden socket head with sculpted hair waved across the forehead, intaglio sculpted blue eyes with pronounced white eyedots, feathered brows, closed mouth with very full lips, wooden spring-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent, very slight craquelure on original finish of forehead and nose bridge. Comments: Schoenhut, circa 1912, model 205. Value Points: wonderfully-preserved original finish with well-sculpted hair and eyes enhancing the pouting expression. $800/1100

11. Extremely Rare American Wooden Doll “The Japanese Man” by Schoenhut 15 ½” (39 cm.) All-carved wood, socket head, deeply ambertanned complexion, very angular features with sculpted eye sockets and strong nose, sculpted black hair in side-parted fashion and with comb mark details of carving, painted black/ brown narrow eyes with black eyeliner, thick curved brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with full outlined lips, allwooden spring-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Schoenhut of Philadelphia, 1920s, the doll was a custom model from that firm utilizing their “Manikin” head with distinctive painting on the classic jointed body; according to Carol Corson in Schoenhut Dolls, only five examples are documented to exist (this present example is ex-Mary Merritt

Doll Museum). Value Points: extremely rare doll in superb state of preservation with distinctive artistic painting, and wearing original multi-layered original Japanese costume. $2500/3500

Bisque socket head, painted blue eyes, thick black upper eyeliner, one-stroke brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth in gentle smiling expression, outlined lips, row of four painted teeth, impressed dimples in cheeks and philtrum, brunette mohair bobbed wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body, antique linen romper suit, knit stockings, oxford shoes and velvet tam. Condition: generally excellent, few minor wig pulls. Marks: 151 S&H 3 Germany. Comments: Simon and Halbig, circa 1910, from that firm’s very rare 150 art character series, of which only three different models were made. Value Points: very rare model with deep sculpting of eye crinkles and cheek and lip corner dimples, enhanced by finest quality of bisque and painting. $8000/12,000

17. All-Original French Bisque Musical Automaton “Little Girl with Pup in Basket” by Leopold Lambert 19” (48 cm.) overall. 14” doll. Standing upon a velvet-covered wooden stage which contains musical and clockwork mechanism is a bisquehead doll with brown glass paperweight inset eyes, painted facial features, lushly painted lashes, accented nostrils, closed mouth with shaded lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms, original blonde mohair wig over cork pate. A wicker basket is attached to her torso (although appearing to be held in her hands) in which is hidden a paper mache poodle with glass eyes and mohair fluffy “fur”. When wound, the doll turns her head side to side and then lifts her right arms to open the front door of the wicker basket, and the puppy pops out, while music plays. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG (head), original paper label listing one tune “La coeur a la main”. Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1890. Value Points: charming vignette depicting a little girl demonstrating her puppy, the girl is wearing all original elaborate silk costume, slippers, and bonnet, and is preserved under original glass dome. $6000/9000

Bisque socket head with elongated face and very full cheeks and chin, blue glass paperweight inset eyes, thick dark eyeliner, painted dark lashes, brush-stroked and multifeathered brows, mauve blushed eye shadow, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with shaded and outlined lips, separately-modeled pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body with plump limbs. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 13 (head) Jumeau Medaille d’Or Paris (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau, the model was sculpted by renowned French artist, Carrier-Belleuse under commission to Jumeau, circa 1884. schoolmaster was forced to leave his native Germany in 1806 when Napoleon invaded his fatherland. Fleeing to the United States for what was to be a temporary stay, embargoes obliged him to remain and he accepted a ministry in Philadelphia, and later was called to the Lutheran Church at Lunenberg, Nova Scotia which he ungraciously described as the “Siberia of America”. In later years, he was noted for his editing and publishing of two important biblical works which are of great value today. Portraits of the couple are virtually unknown. $400/600

30. Fine Collection of Early 1800s Miniature Portraits of Gentlemen 29. Pair, Early 19th-Century Miniature Paintings of Grandmother and Grandfather Temmes 5” (13 cm.) x 4” frames. Each is an oval painting on parchment with mottled grey or blue background, depicting semi-profile views (facing each other) of a slender woman with ringlet curls around her face, wearing a simple gown with ruffled neckline and high waist, and a white-haired gentleman with strong features, wearing ministerial robes; presented in original matching frames. The portraits are identified on the reverse as Grandmother Temme (b. 1791, married 1809) with note that the portrait was painted in 1812; and Grandfather Rev. Ferdinand Conrad Temme, Professor of Philosophy and Philology (b. 1768, d. 1832). Excellent condition. Temme, the German scholar and

The outstanding collection of early miniature portrait paintings, mostly painted on bone, include a brown-suited gentlemen with quill pen in hand (with ink notation on the reverse indicating that he is Joshua Stevens, painted by William Derby, May 6, 1821); portrait in semiprofile of lean-faced gentleman with high neck collar; oval portrait in brass frame of curly-haired gentleman, signed Daffinger; another oval painting with shaped curls at the forehead and very elaborate collar with stick pin; portrait of gentleman with grey-streaked hair, orange vest and black tie, signed by artist H. Brossar (or Brossal), 1842; portrait of man with curly ringlets around the face; and a small watercolor of younger man with curly brown hair, ruffled jabot, and button-edged blue jacket. Excellent condition of all. Early 1800s, a rare collection of gentlemen portraits, some artist signed, one identified. $2500/3500
